Granted you said that the octavia is out of its size class why wouldn't you put the Skoda Superb on test in its place, its starting price is cheaper than the octavia you tested and would be better suited to rival the other 3 - not really comparing apples with apples...
Fully agree. And then it would've been the best of the 4. One thing is clear, australians love japanese cars and british guys love fords. They have a genetically programmed love for these brands.
The Mazda is simply the better car except for the infotainment system

Wish we had wagons to choose from here in the U.S., all these SUV’s look the same. We often get compliments on our Jetta Sportwagen. Probably going to look at another one (Golf) next year. Really would like a Mazda6 wagon. Our 2015 6 Grand Touring is the nicest car we’ve ever owned, even more pleased with 40 mpg on the highway for such a large car while on vacation.
Get a good 2nd hand car. Every accountant will tell you NEVER buy a new car. Then go on holidays this will impress your neighbours more than any car!

How come you didn't show the space woth seats dropped? An important part is knowing if seats fold flat. I can't find that info anywhere haha.
I'm bit confused about statement of Mazda's missing carplay option. I do have Mazda 6 2019 and I do have apple car play (same for 2018 model, that was the year of refresh).
I've had less issues (the fuel release flap stopped working) with my Mondeo compared to our Mazda 2 with 120,000km less on the clock. TDCI for the win.
You compare boots by moving a suitcase between them but fail to give the litre capacity of the boots. Need to lift your game a bit pal.
Skoda Octavia is not in the same class... It is in golf class.... For a good comparison you should look at Superb

Mazda is a long term car brand. Keeper for life! Timing chain 2.5T alone is enough reason for me to buy one.

Not the mazda. Mazda is the most reliable, stylish, and the nicest to drive, may not be the biggest or speediest, but its lovely to drive, and amazing interior

I'm all about the counter culture in cars, hatchbacks and wagons are where its at for me. It's a shame we only get one of these in the U.S. (your Commodore is our Buick Regal TourX) and they don't sell well enough for me to have a large selection of used models in a few years. (a little too expensive brand new)

I work in a small company and I had 3 of those cars..except for the octavia, I took a Superb...they are all great cars, but mazda is the luxury go to for ceo's and bosses, while we buy others for team leaders, and managers

Normally the Skoda has the most trunk space. ~610 litres. The others only have something like 550 or so.

No. This car was designed by Holden engineers for Australia. The AWD V6 VXR with Brembo Brakes, 9 speed box, active cruise, self steering, self parking, cooling/heated seats with massage, and head up display and remote start is brilliant. Ive done 26,000klm in mine after owning nearly every Commodore ever made, the ZB VXR is the best. Oh, I also have a 357KW HSV Grange.
That will be my pick if they ever sell it in usa

Not sure about Aussie but NZ the Mazda has NO resale value....a fact I learnt the hard way when enquiring about trading up my 2yo old wagon for the new GT. Maybe it was Mazda trying to take me for a ride, but all they did was turn me to Passat...and I’m glad I spent the few extra dollars too now.

Regarding Mazda in Australia, in 2018 when this test was conducted Mazda was the second highest selling car manufacturer for that year, selling 111,280 cars, whilst Toyota was number one with 217,061, Hyundai third with 94,187, and VW at nineth with 56,620. In 2023, yet again Mazda was number two with 100,008 sales, and Toyota number one with 215,240, Ford third with 87,800, and VW eleventh with 43,821. Due to Mazda's popularity in Aust', I would say that their resale value here is okay, but currently wagons are very much less popular than SUVs which probably results in a lower resale. I am currently thinking about buying a new Mazda wagon, the 2024 Mazda 6 G25 Sport, which comes with the naturally aspirated 2.5 litre engine, which is AUD$42,132 drive-away. The VW Passat is now no longer sold in Australia, whilst last year the cheapest Passat being sold here was the 2023 162TSI Elegance, and that was about AUD$60,000 (or more) drive-away. Both the Commodore and Mondeo wagon are no longer sold here. The Skoda Octavia wagon is still sold here, with the cheapest being AUD$43,990 drive-away, for the 2024 110TSI Style. The cheapest Superb is the 2024 206TSI SportLine Auto 4x4, at AUD$$71,990 drive-away. Cheers.

Just don't drive one of those in the outer Sydney suburbs. If you do very soon you will break a rubber band tyre and wheel on a pot hole. An SUV or a crew cab ute is now the only choice for out of town driving.

What? GM never had a stake in Mazda, that was Ford. Having said that, the two companies parted ways in 2010, the Mondeo/Fusion and Mazda 6 don't share any engineering or parts. The "outdated" Holden is actually an Opel design.

It may not measure up to some of the others, but I think the Holden (what we call the Buick Regal TourX in the states) actually looks pretty good, and rivals the Mazda in that department. Yes, the interior isn't up to the level of the others, but I think it's a good 4x4 wagon.

@@Jayphil1 I get some parts on Ebay but not many as I have it regularly serviced by mazda. Every 4 years a major service and just oil/oil filter and air filter change inbetween
@@alphillips5478 I do exactly the same and I don't need much parts. I jus have a bad sway link and I prefer to buy the OEM version because the dealers in my country sell primarily aftermarket which can be inferior

Informative but pointless, Mazda6 is the most beautiful, the most reliable, the best to drive and the best finished. I dont care about 2 inches more of cargo space,2 more PowerPoint or 2 more mpg

Speaking from expirience, Mazda 6. :) Then Mondeo.. others are crap. Skoda especially.. Good while they are up to 4 years old. After that, pure garbage. If you want to go with Skoda, go with VW then.

Mazda is well known for their corner cutting measures. Hey engineers I know you built a decent, solid well handling car. We are now going to cut gret big holes in it and shave structure off of everything to make it lighter and less structural. And noisy.
