  • I've had my Mazda 6 for just over a week and in this video I list the best and worst features of the car. Since this video, I've found even more!:
    Best:
    5-Keyless locking
    4-Safety features
    3-Driving and handling
    2-Start/stop
    1-Interior and exterior styling
    Worst:
    5-Voice control
    4-Per trip MPG information
    3-Fuel economy
2-No dedicated button to fold wing mirrors in, the glove box too small, it's too easy to hide the transmission numbers with a coat
1-The car is neither a sports, family or executive car. So what is it?!

Good review. In 2016 I purchased a new car for my wife. We drove a Honda Accord, Mazda 6 and Toyota Camry. They all had pluses and minuses. However, she chose the Toyota due to the Camry having a smoother and quieter ride. She also felt the Mazda 6 handled more like a sports car compared to a family sedan. I agree with her assessment; however, the Mazda 6 was definitely fun to drive.

Thanks for the review & some interesting points to take on board. I have a similar car lined up for my next purchase ( found a nice 18 example in soul red - looks best in that set up IMO) so good for my research. I know the ride will be hard on those 19s but can’t be worse than the Mini Cooper S on run flats I am trading in. I agree with the keyless entry/exit - once you have had that you can never go back…

Do you have different driving settings? I can go sports, econ, norm. These all effect fuel economy.
An instrument panel engineer can tell you why the glove box is too small. I'd guess behind those wings on the glove box doors are mass quantities of wires.
The transmission indicator seems to be designed for a left side driver.

Yes, a great car. I've now had two from new so they can't be too bad. If you use the adaptive cruise control it helps massively with fuel consumption. Lots of really good safety features although the car acts as if the driver is blind sometimes and activates the warning system because it thinks you haven't seen an idiot that pulls (his or her) car across in front of you. The mirrors close automatically in my new car so another improvement.
I have a dark grey finish and I find if you don't wash it you can't see any scratches!

Answers to some of the issues you have in the description.
If you wanted a softer ride you should have got the sel-nav version. That keeps the 17 inch wheels. Fuel economy with automatics isn't ever that great but the 150ps model would have given you a better fuel economy. I always get the best fuel economy when using cruise control.
Start stop doesn't work well in cold weather due to it taking longer for the capacitor to charge.
You can update the sat nav software by downloading some software called Mazda toolbox I think updates cost around £89.

After 35 years with VW Audi, jumped ship to Mazda 6 2ltr estate. Fed up with the VW and Audi in the garage every few months. Picked up a real gem from the main dealer 3 years ago. 2015, 145 bhp petrol with 7,500 miles on the clock! Belonged to an old couple who didn't use it often. Still had all of the protective plastic from the factory on the inside of the doors and boot. Why it wasn't removed after PDI delivery is a bit odd, but there you go. Proving to be reliable up till now, 30,000 miles covered, main dealer serviced annually. Yeah, there's some odd things with these. Cannot believe there is no low level windscreen washer warning on the dash, thought the pump in the washer bottle had failed the first time the water ran out! Infotainment screen a bit bacic. Agree with the folding mirror button, I'm always driving off with my mirrors folded! I always disable the start/stop as soon as I get in the car, chews batteries starting the engine every time you stop. Nothing else bothers me really. Nice and comfy on a long run. I can get 45 mpg plus at 80 mph on trips to the Lake District with 3 on board and all of our walking kit. Always use premium unleaded petrol, seems to make a difference. All in all, quite pleased and going to get another later modle later this year.

Great car, and the fuel economy which the manufacturers say is always different to real world driving, In fact, when the MPG ratio is tested in the laboratory, nothing is left to chance. Manufacturers have a number of ways to make sure they obtain the best results possible: turning the lights and the aircon off; disconnecting the alternator; pushing back the brake pads to reduce friction; removing extra trim; and only allowing one person in the car. Now they are allowed to do all this, but it’s not exactly how the rest of us drive.

I've owned(all brand new) a 2015 touring, 2016GT, and a 2017GT. I don't know where u got your car from but I don't no where near 40mpg. I did get 37mpg when on adaptive cruise control driving from NY to Texas. City driving, maybe 20-22mpg. Top 5 likes and dislikes:
I'll start with likes: I LOVE THE AMAZING HEADLIGHTS on this car!!
Absolutely AMAZING!!! My favorite part of the car.
Interior is really classy, and sporty.
The overall look of the car. To be honest, I think it's 1 of the best looking cars on the road.
All controls are rite there are your fingertips.(altho the speech command does SUCK, but I'll get to that in dislikes)
I do enjoy driving the car.
I do like the autolocks on car when key is not detected/outta range
    Dislikes: voice command- IT SUCKS!!
After 3yrs of owning car you must purchase map updates.
Seats: In my 2015 ITouring, I had the same seats as in video(all black, full leather), which were nice, soft, and comfortable to sit on. In the 16&17, I had the seats with the little holes in them, heated seats and stuff(they were GTs), but the seats are very firm and hard for long drives so I started using seat cushions.
After a full stop, starting acceleration seems to be some hesitatency for about a second or 2. I've noticed that in all 3 cars. I understand it's a 4cyl but still strange.
Wish the trunk was a little bigger.
As a bonus, something I ABSOLUTELY HATE about this car is cleaning the inside of the rear window. What a pain in the ass,AND IT NEVER COMES TOTALLY CLEAN!!!
I'm sure there's other things I can add but that's just off the top of my little head. 😊😊😊😊👋👋👋👋

Don't the mirrors fold automatically when you lock the car?

  • @giotto4321
    @giotto4321 2 года назад +1

A few points I'd make: (and you probably have realised this if you still have the car after 2 years!) for the start-stop to activate, the 'e-loop' needs to have sufficient charge. Flick through the Info button on the steering wheel till you get to that option and you'll see the status. For example, if you have the heater running and lights on thereby using more battery power, the car may not auto-stop when it's stationary. My second point is that the door mirrors should automatically fold in when you lock the car.
One other point I'd list as a 'minus' for the Mazda 6 is how puny the fan is. I find mine terrible at demisting the front screen and it also takes ages for the engine to warm up enough to get the heater up to a decent temperature.
And let's not talk about the 'DPF issues' on the diesel engined models shall we!

Thanks for the review. I'd say it depends on the people because for me keyless is a catastrophic feature. It's typically the sort of black mirror shit I really despise. I'm an engineer and I am a proponent of retro tech to simplify and reduce points of failures, as well as surface of attack. But now that's just for the philosophy. About the actual practical actuation, for me the button start drives me mad because it never starts when you push it. You have to wait for un-understandable amount of time, before pushing a second time, maybe applying brakes? You never know, It just doesn't start, and often it just turns off in a sort of stypid cycle -> fake On -> off -> fake on -> off... for god sake just start the f** car.
The key knob stuff is a feature, you can control the starter time as well which is important for any maintenance like compression checks. It becomes idiotic when the battery dies, because you need to access the manual which is inside the car to realize there is in fact a safety key... keyless is just losing features, I can't stand it.

Nice car, and fantastic value. My 2012 Jaguar XF still cost me around the same as what a 2016 Mazda 6 with similar mileage to yours would be. So perhaps I'm just paying for the name. Double the age and with 60k miles, and still worth around the same as your far newer car. I'm all for Jags though, so for me it's worth it.
As for the scratches, they're not particularly deep. I find them often on mine being a black car, and can usually polish them out with a bit of elbow grease and patience. My advice would be to park far from others in car parks, particularly if those cars happen to have booster seats in them. Kids are probably more likely to ding your doors, but not to say that adults don't. Also, take care and be gentle when washing the car. Japanese cars are known to have softer paint, so be careful with how much pressure you apply when scrubbing.

I can't stand the start stop thing. Maybe it is better in a diesel. But with petrol there can be a bit of a delay and then it can feel like a kick up the butt. There are ways of overriding it such as wiggling the steering wheel or having the air conditioning on. Don't think it actually saves much on fuel but can see it causing more wear on the starting mechanism

I like the quality trim but the fuel consumption is making the car more expensive to own. My diesel has averaged 70mpg over 60,000 miles. I suspect the powerful engine is the primary cause. Mazda made a big deal about improving efficiency instead of going hybrid. By contrast, Prius owners are reporting excellent real world economy. The latest Prius is hideous but less like an appliance and a bit more like a car. I am disappointed that Mazda has not yet produced a production version of its EV with a tiny rotary engine as a range extender.

I own a 2014 model, 2.0 petrol, manual. Driving in London LoL. I absolutely love it. The only things I dont like is the engine noise in low rev range and that it has no power (165BHP). also there is quite a large gap between the wheel and the lowest part of the wheel arch. I keep the car very tidy. I like spending time polishing and waxing the exterior. My car is the shiniest in the neighbourhood :D

Look, Hufflepuff, if your idea of fun and styling is this conservative, stick with a Mini-Cooper. While I'm no fan of Mazda, if they'd gone by the 2010 MKZ shared specs (also not a Ford fan, but the MKZ AWD gained my respect as a current owner), especially AWD, they'd have a solid rockstar. But while I'm partially agreeing with you, my biggest gripe is that you're not treating it for what it is: Sporty Spice, maybe half hung-over. If it's not giving you a thrill, something's amiss. So, from one Doc to another, please, let your balls out.

DIESEL is a wrong start from the ... start :)) NOOOT DIESEL! NO DIESEL MAZDA! Petrol is the way for 197 HP ;) Fuel economy for 2.5 liter petrol model is 9.1l/100km in a calm SPORTY driving manner. (34.4 gallon). CRAP! The previews 2017model had a button for FOLDING THE MIRRORS with 3 positions: open, folded and AUTO on middle

might be diesel, but you can get fast diesel cars, audi won le mans with a diesel. I dont believe the fuel figures from manufacturers, my XF only does about 36 to the gallon think its supposed to be in the 40`s.

Confused. You do not think it is classed as sporty then later is proves that with a "pin back in your seat" acceleration.
Another is talks about the firm suspension then talks about the good handling. You cant really get one without the other.
Maybe save weight to improve the fuel economy? Empty the glove box remove your coat (it has a heater/aircon). Ok enough with pulling your leg. It does seem a good car but those rear pillars do look like a bit of a blind spot. Is that the case?

The worst things: The ride at slow speeds, Not being able to put the power down without spinning it's wheels, the cheap plastic trim, If you drive it slowly everywhere it will soot the DPF and intake manifold up in 25k miles. Put your keys in the microwave (don't turn it on) it will stop someone cloning them and driving off with it with. The styling looks great when you first get it but starts to look really bad from some angles. The speakers are guaranteed to start making farting noises. I'm getting 37 mpg from my C350 CDI and it's worlds apart. 0-60 in 5.7 seconds etc. Give it 3-4 months you'll be wanting to trade it in 😉
