Mazda 6 driver since 1986 and still a happy owner. It is an affordable and reliable car and affordable to maintain Now drive the Mazda 6 wagon 2.5i full option. Once Mazda driver always Mazda driver !
The rear view camera really needs an upgrade, actually the whole display is kinda low res. That being said everything else about the car is extremelly well designed.
Great reviews Thomas! I watch many as I am looking for a new car. I currently own and drive the previous version of this Mazda6 Wagon in Touring form with a 2.2TD engine. 160,000km on the clock over 6 years, love the car for all the reasons you gave. Super reliable, solid, fun, great handling for what it is. Trying to tempt myself into a BMW X1 but keep coming back to this... almost certain to get another Mazda6 wagon in the Atenza format. Keep up these great reviews! (one note the engine did pop it's oil pump, 30 days after the warrantee ran out but Mazda were great, said it shouldn't happen, gave me a fill in car and replaced the whole engine, no charge - they believe in their cars and back that you with customer support and service... another reason I will almost certainly go back to Mazda)
Autogefühl Wow great to hear back from you Thomas, you’ve become a bit of an auto-hero for me. Your reviews really are terrific. For a few specific cars I looked at many many different RUclips reviews and yours are the best! You give great, thoughtful detail from design changes over previous models, through engineering features, safety and infotainment features and then a brilliant mix of internal and external shots during the on road reviews. All of this really helps enormously in the important decision making many of us only do every few years. The breadth of experience you have of so many cars means that when you impresses you it is clear that it is a good car. So I was happy that you liked the Mazda6 a lot, I feel certain that I will buy a new one now with your review. Finally, yes I was impressed at Mazda Australia’s response... I didn’t even have to ask or to hassle them. The guy in the service centre said, hmmm let me talk to the manager - one day later the National service manager from head office called with their good news for me. Meantime keep up the great work and accept my thanks and admiration from the other side of the planet!
Great review! I drive a 2016 2.0 Mazda 6. Other than needing a battery change in the previous scheduled service, it has been very reliable for the past 2 years of ownership with around 48000km mileage. Average 7.7 litres/ 100km.
The interior looks excellent! At least the design seems more minimalist and the overall colours and layout seems great. A lot better than some of the premium brands... Also it seems to me that Mazda (as well as for example the Corean brands) keep giving their customer more for (more or less) the same price and that's what I call customer care! :) Also, I must say I really liked that you made reference to the reliability reputation/ history as it is a very important aspect for me in a car! Keep it up!
They´re not as cheap as they used to be, but they´re far from being expensive. But in my opinion it's justified as they keep making better and better products and just don't stop evolving. They have a good politic as they listen to their costumers criticisms and complaints and address them in the next models they launch. I don´t know where you´re from but I'm from Portugal and here Corean cars are still the best value you can have. I wouldn´t call them cheap but definitely affordable. For example, with similar engines, the base VW Golf is still a bit more expensive than the top spec Kia Ceed. (In Portugal at least)
@José Ferreira Let me put it this way. Hyundai i30 costs as much as VW Golf. Only the Honda Civic is more expensive non-premium compact. People don't buy top-spec compacts, because for the same money they can get some midsize sedans. Most people buy medium trims where Koreans don;t shine.
We agree to disagree. :) In Portugal it isn't. i30 is way cheaper than VW Golf. The people I know that have korean cars, buy them exactly because they can have a top spec model with all the extras for more or less the same money as a base VW car.
thanks for taking this Mazda to real traffic condition and showing us some hot-tempered drivers! always coming to your channel to see new car reviews, thanks and Keep up the great work😀 Love Autogefühl😃
Bought 2.2 D 2011/2012 with 107000 km,in two years i had 195000 with any problems. Bought for 10000€ sell for 7000€(oil(liquid molly)+filter on auto dock for 60€+ 4× disks and brakes 100€ ...so prefect car with cheap parts))... just bought the same 2017 2.2 D and this is one of the best brands for quality !!! Thanks Mazda !!!
Beautiful design, naturally aspirated engine, good build quality interior, good driving dynamics and good practicality. What else can you ask for a mainstream car?
the gearbox, cover the gearbox. forget the engine, it's a traditional petrol engine with 4 cylinders, the most common engine in the history of mechanics. the gearbox is what people have questions about, as that's the controversial component of mazda. unlike others, they use torque converter gearboxes, not double clutch. unlike others, they have 6 speed one, not 7/8/10 speeds. what's that like to drive? is it quick? is it laggy? is it smooth?
i like your reviews on cars for everyday people. you find as many good things as you find in the s class type cars. always fair and honest. im super fascinated by the fact that you can more effectively understand and communicate who the customer is for each car better than the manufacturers can. it also helps that Thomas is so easy to look at and listen to :)
Thank you very much for this detailed and relaxed review. A lot of helpful information. I really enjoyed it. As I would like a silent car more than anything and I can't have the possibility to test many of them, can you, please, tell us, which cars are actually quieter or as quiet as Mazda 6 tourer? Luxury cars are clearly out of the question... but Mazda 6 battles with the VW Passat variant... is that quieter, for example?
I loved that comprehensive review, thank you. I will have to change my beloved Honda Accord and this is a beautiful contender, I love the look of the estate too by the way. Thanks
I was going to ask what watch you were wearing, but then I saw that it was in the description of the video. It's like you read my mind, lol. Also love your commentary on how superfluous leather seats are. Mazda has been on a roll in recent years and this car, for the most part, continues that trend. Looking to get an MX-5 soon. Great review as always, Thomas. Keep up the good work.
Full leather (incl dashboard), the safety assistant features, power seats with ventilation, keyless entry, Bose sound system, head up display... very impressive! 🙂👍 I would really like to try it and compare how it compares to my Mercedes E-class. Not as much space of course but it lookslike really good value! A 4 cyl Mercedes E-class with this sort of equipment would be like €60k.
Hi, Thomas, great review as always. I strongly agree your opinion on the sound of door handle, european cars usually give a solid feeling through the door handle.
白金 having owned a 2016 Mazda 6 and now the proud owner of a 2018 Mazda 6 Signature with Turbo, I have to say relatively speaking that the door and handle quality has improved a lot. Personally, I find Audi's more recent door handle design quite cheap, compared to older designs. In fact I think the Golf has a better quality door and handle design and construction. But Mazda has defintely improved in this area where I dont feel like the door is made of tin.
I personally love the Mazda 6 exterior and interior design, despite having driven several second-hand German cars and Volvos almost for the past 20 years. What I like especially that the dashboard view right behind the steering wheel is quite classic-looking with analogic speedometer. Seems like quite a sensible car.
Excellent Review Thomas. Regards to Katharina. Loved the driving part as always - "Live on tape" etc! And the "Alcantara Pet!" Nice car. UK online configurator not working for this car, but it seems you're very limited in engine/trans combination (no petrol auto on top model?), and it seems if you want a HUD, or heated steering wheel, BLIS, ACC, or a 350 cam or LED's, you have to get top-spec car only and you end up with leather! Shame you can't spec up an ordinary Mazda6 as required. Seems similar story with the nice CX-5. I could be wrong! Many thanks Thomas.
We have a CX-3 - great car, we had to buy the most expensive Sport Nav just to get Blind Spot Monitoring and headup display. We love it. We like this Mazda6 but it is too big, and expensive for us.
yes it is a shame, with our new CX-5 petrol in UK, no safety pack or sunroof option, those were diesel only. they also need to wise-up to having turbos fitted, overtaking on Scottish highland roads with a 2.0L NA engine, is not effortless, even after some magic from Quantum Tuning.
Mogsy28uk - sorry to hear CX-5 with chipped petrol engine is not relaxing overtaking in Scottish Highlands. Irony, because probably the diesel would have more go? And use less fuel. The idea of the diesel engine has now been ransacked, and no one seems to like them anymore. And I didn't know about how limited Mazda were with specifying useful safety extras on certain trims - that's quite limiting. Cheers.
This is the Mazda 6 in the recent facelift, for you here on Autogefühl, your number 1 resource for in-depth car reviews and your number 1 community to discuss cars with Thomas. We're going to take a detail look on the exterior (both the estate and the sedan) and the interior (most changes happening there, this will be very interesting I can promise you) and also the driving experience here as usual. And everything of that, in full HD, full screen and full length. Let's go!
Man, tell me about it! I just can't understand Americans obsession with SUVs. I'd dump my car THIS SECOND if the Mazda 6 Estate became available in the US.
I have a 3 series BMW Tourer. I love the damn car but the lack of phone to auto data tethering and lack of Android auto is forcing me to go with another brand. I really like what Mazda had done here. Definitely on my top 3 list
Refine to perfection! Front mask is Jaguar XE, interior even better than Audi A4. Hope the front mask with lights will not be damaged by temptation to make something new in the next generation! Don't change something that works just to do some change!
What I think is most important: new improved diesel becomes AdBlue so it works with less consumption and with higher compression ratio does not need complicated (and faulty - well known exhaust camshaft wear, following vacuum pump clogging and damaged turbochargers) IDEVA system for back suction of exhaust gases when running the engine cold. Anyway I switched from 2014 6 Wagon 2.2D (175hp with VersaTune upgrade to 200hp) to Insignia Country Tourer 2.0T (Buick Regal Tour X in US) due to lack of space and low power that Mazda now offers in Europe. After a few thousand kilometers I find Country Tourer more versatile, it's sporty when I need power (and switch-on Sport mode) and flying carpet-like, when i drive bad or gravel roads in Tour mode. There's plenty of space and the whole car is beyond that it is much more spacious, somehow more robust built.
I mostly agree. But the looks of contry tourer... not really comparable with mazda. It is also an opel, so the long term reliability should not be all that great.
One thing I've notice is you are a big critic of animal skin use for car seats. I love your emphasis on quality, something most car reviewers seem to ignore and instead pay attention mainly on design. Great review as always Thomas.
That C1 driver in the roundabout really ticked me off, all he had to do was wait 2 seconds but nooooooooo he'd rather cause an accident. What a muppet. (I used to meet people like that rather often working at customer locations and driving through middle europe a lot). Anyway great review, always love to see these mid segment cars on review. In general I noticed the cheaper and mid segment/class manufacturers upped their game in certain points which is great to see. Keeps the premium manufacturers on their heels to push even further and we as customers profit a lot from that :P
great review Thomas, decent car. improved interior. Always had the problem with luggage cover spring breaking . Wasn't clear if the new one is an improvement in design. On my car it has broken twice(very expensive to replace/repair)
Harmonic has to do with interactions of waves (usually musical but can be any physical waveform). It can be used as an adjective but is most often used as a noun. For example: "A Porsche 911 engine being taken to red-line produces many upper-order harmonics." Harmonious simply means pleasing to the ear... sweet-sounding. For example: "A Porsche 911 engine being taken to red-line produces a wonderfully harmonious sound."
I've been watching and loving your reviews for like 2 years, and for some reason I felt compelled to post an English lesson today. I don't mean to come across as condescending; just trying to help. Keep up the great work!
Great review, thank you! I would like to ask, KIA OPTIMA SW or MAZDA 6? I like Mazda Engines, interior, I like more Kia exterior and features ... what do you think?
Autogefühl danke das habe ich schon gesehen, ich möchte gerne eine Meinung von ein Fahrer/Tester welcher beide Fahrzeuge gefahren hat haben ... Sie können es auch privat beantworten...
I'm so disappointed that the good majority of my country can't appreciate wagons (estates/combis...depending on who you ask ;) ) or consider them as a viable choice... maybe then manufacturers would be more apt to bringing them over here! Not all of us find the high profile of a crossover incredibly necessary when we want a versatile and spacious car! I think it's safe to say that many of the apprehensive Americans can let go of the association with boxy, late 20th century land-yachts...some of these modern wagons are quite sharp looking! This one certainly is :)
What's the reason for Americans not buying estates? In Europe I think estates are more popular than sedans, which makes sense to me since they're more practical.
I agree 100% ...I think, for some reason, Americans equate wagons to the old '70's Station Wagon' look (The Truckster from National Lampoon's comes to mind...) and that association just turns Americans off, I guess... which is a shame because they are disliked over a purely subjective and superficial reason. Whenever more cargo space is desired, I suppose most Americans just go with crossovers. Many of which I think are LESS practical than wagons...not to mention a far different driving dynamic... rather than going with a 'car' that has more practicality, in space, efficiency, and familiarity to typical sedan/family car drivers...all the efforts are put into making crossovers that look far larger than the usable space it actually provides. That, or just a truck. Seeing as those are often more luxurious than premium brand 'executive' cars, these days...
Jesse Burke Get it as estate/wagon with 2.5 Turbo available in the USA( not available in Europe). I know Ill import one with that engine in the near future:D
Wagons are called tourers in Europe now, sounds rather provisional 😂 estate cars are the best, you know the drivers practical, likes redundancy because you never know what you have to cart around.
Excellent review! I was so looking forward to it. Coming back to your reference about premium brands, how would you compare this Mazda with an Audi A4 or Mercedes C-Klasse in terms of interior quality, sound insulation and engine and gearbox refinement? Is spending 10 or 20 extra thousand euros for a "premium" car really worth it?
love your canal, one wish do let us see the indicator lights in the front first if the indicator are att the wrong side of the headlights i can go to another rew.
I’m about to pick up my M6 2.5 SkyDream. I can’t actually wait for it. I will definitely write my review. Opposite you recommend I’ve chosen Sedan 🙃 and l’m really curious if my impression will meet yours. Sincerely
Thomas, how would you compare the handling and steering feel of this version, compared to for 2018 model? And do you have a favorite sporty wagon in general (that is good fun to drive, with good handling, steering feel and less cabin noise, and yes i have to have a diesel option:)? Thanks for your honest reviews:)
Thanks for tuning in! Hmm the Mazda6 hasnt changed that much in the recent model years. I mean, yes the facelift is a little fancier in the interior now, but not that different as for driving.
It is not just you, the sedan has a longer wheelbase (8 centimeters more) and there IS more legroom. I have no clue why Mazda opted for that decision. Apparently their thinking is that the estate is for families with small children in the back only. But that exactly gives you a big problem if trying to fit a reboarder child seat, as you then need the same legroom as for a really tall adult person.
A few questions CarPlay is not wireless then? It wasn’t 100% clear Did you see Nav directions on HUD when using Apple Maps? Would you choose a top spec 6 over low spec A4/3series/Cclass/V60?
Great review! Super late reply by me, but I have a 2017 model of the 'touring' trim in Australia. Here the 2018 and later years the higher end models come with the 2.5 turbo. Mine is the 2.5 NA wagon/estate. Coming from a manual car I feel the auto transmission in the normal mode is a little too conservative (although encourages relaxed driving) and then sport mode holds on to the high revs a bit too much. Of course thanks to the paddles you can control this yourself, but just something I feel could be improved. I wish my model had that button to turn on the rear camera, I'm always putting it in reverse just to see if I'm in the car park perfectly or not haha. Overall very much enjoying the car, I've had it for two months and I'm the second owner, it has done 95,000km. It feels pretty much as good as new, the steering wheel has gone shiny from use but still has good grip and feels good, that's the only noticeable wear I can advise. I wanted a Subaru Levorg 2.0l but it was a fair bit more expensive, with the liberty wagon gone for a while there weren't many Japanese wagons to choose from and I'm quite happy with the choice so far. Hope this helps someone.
very nice review! I am looking forward to the new mx5 video. I drive a mazda 6 2017 myself and I enjoy every ride in it, it really let me think of a bmw the way it drives, it has te same natural flow in it's driving characteristics with a sporty touch in the steering and chassis.
Hello Thomas ,nice mid segment car .Pretty affordable for normal folks too .I just have one question .Is the automatic gearbox a dual-clutch or a torque konverter? Anyway great review Thomas, detailed and precise as always, keep it up!
Torque converter with lockup device (wet clutch), further two wet clutches, one for 1-3 gear and other for 4-6 gear. Actually they're with 3 different types of torque converter for for different max. torque moments, small cars with 1.5G-1.5D becoming EW-type, gasoline 2.0G and 2.5G FW-type, 2.5T and 2.2D becoming GW-type transmission.
Depends on the country, cars from new EU memberstates (Slo, Croatia, Slowakia etc.) are listed up to 9.000 EUR lower than most expensive memberstates (Austria)... I know I would be buying a 2.5 turbo, if available. Would probably not cost more than 2-3.000 EUR more than 2.5 NA.
it would be better to offer the 2.0L as a turbo option, and leave the 2.5 as NA, but i think Mazda are falling behind a little on this, smaller engines and turbos are the way the market is going for the high volume models (Mazda 6 vs Mondeo etc). Performance models are also proving popular on mainstream models including SUV, Mazda has nothing in this range.
I suspect that Europe might see it next year. Mazda seems to be about a year behind in Europe compared to USA, and they just added the 2.5T option here near the start of 2018. It's selling extremely well, too.
it‘s the same here in germany. you have led headlights in every trim-level. in the sports plus package you get the matrix led lights. i think that the information in the video is just wrong
Oh, and Thomas...if you're sticking to the seat turn on the COOLED SEATS ffs! Mazda has one of the best systems in the business. I tried it out on a 98f day in Texas and could feel it cooling immediately unlike some so called "cooled seats". It's clear you don't really like Mazda, (not one of your favorite car makers) but don't complain about sticky seats if you refuse to test an equipped feature that eliminates that..
I dont favour any brand, trust me. I m professional. If u have fabric seats u just dont need cooling that often. Also refer to our extensive resources posted below.
We have researched this issue for many years now so please take your time to go through our extensive resources stated below as they answer every single question we have yet received concerning this matter. At Autogefühl, we have already received several thousands (!) comments, messages and mails that more and more people want to combine enjoying their car with reducing the environmental impact at the same time. We believe that sustainable luxury is possible or at least we should do everything to support that. Those many thousand people confirming this trend, motivate us to give you the most authentic information and background on the product parts. It is not about what you bought in the past, and it is not about blaming anyone, it is about what you decide in the future and what you can decide and influence as a customer. So we want you to have all information that you need for a decision you later enjoy and like best yourself. In Summer 2017, Tesla motors has decided to be the first manufacturer to go all the way with sustainable seat materials, only offering fabric/cloth seats or leatherette seats in different colours. They have banned all real leather from the seating surface and at the steering wheel in the white trim or on demand. So Tesla shows where the industry will and must be heading, just like they went forward with electrification first. Check out our special video addressing car CEOs as a first summary and also see conditions of animal skin production: ruclips.net/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/видео.html List of practical reasons against animal skin seats: 1. animal skin seats are often sold as an expensive option, by going for base trim level seats you can save a lot of money and get a better price-performance-deal (often the manufacturers claim that animal leather is top of luxury because they can earn the best money with it) 2. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat, probably you need seat cooling 3. they get very cold in winter and you need seat heating 4. on cloth or microfibre surfaces, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling 5. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like an old sofa 6. if you want leather look or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ruclips.net/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/видео.html) So Tesla shows a good example for that and as described, non-leather materials are now standard for ALL Tesla 7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather) To the environmental reasons: 1. The way the cows and other intelligent and social animals are raised and held are not according to the basic values that we all share (also see videos below) 2. The factory farming industry can be accounted for at least 40 % of climate emissions and thus is (according to numerous sources you can look up) the number one reason for climate change and environmental destruction. It is the number one reason for deforestation, two thirds of all agricultural land on earth is used for growing animal food crops. If you would feed humans directly by using the agricultural land, you could produce much more food for everyone. See this interesting essay for more on climate emissions background: www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf 3. It is not only cows who are suffering, but also the environment and to a big part also humans. Think of slavery-like working conditions in slaughterhouses (there are plenty of documentaries about this) or think of chemically altered drinking water in animal skin production villages as also seen in the video footage. 4. The discussion, for which body part the cow is killed first, is very patronizing. But if you really think it would be important why someone gets killed in first place: There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even while still being (part-)alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body. 5. So even if a cow gets theoretically killed for meat first, in every case you give additional money to an industry that relies on killing, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". A the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover up that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy. 6. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/ To “But leatherette is not sustainable due to petrochemical production” 1. Indeed some fabrics and micro fibres are oil based, however most oil is spent on energy production, heating and fuel. The share of oil used for artificial cloth etc. is very very small. 2. If you look at the whole production process, the leatherette is way more sustainable than the leather produce. Even if you leave the ethical aspect aside, here is the official calculation of the CO2-Output animal skin vs leatherette (different kinds of leatherette): Leather 17 kg CO2/m² PVC leatherette 10 kg CO2/m² Acella Eco natural leatherette 8,5 kg CO2/m² Benova (PUR leatherette): 8 kg CO2/m² So by using the latest high-tech leatherette, you even the CO2-emissions are cut in half! 3. The best to-come solution are indeed plant-based materials like Pinatex (based on pineapple leaves) or new materials based on mycelia (roots of mushrooms) or other innovative natural products. That’s the future. More special video episodes: 1. A initial special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ruclips.net/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/видео.html 2. And another one right here: ruclips.net/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/видео.html 3. Furthermore, you’ll find the footage of leather production also here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ruclips.net/video/JipYvuDsI6s/видео.html timecode starting 27:46 4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ruclips.net/video/OgHs239bAnE/видео.html 5. Please note that those videos are made by well-known journalists and cameramen who were not influenced by any animal welfare organisation, they supply their footage to the animal rights groups of course. I partly know the creators of the video footage personally and they are all authentic. You don’t have to search long to find cruel production environments anyway. Manufacturers reactions: We started the very first inquiry years ago, with the result that car manufacturers do not reveal their sources of animal skin AT ALL. If it all would be clean and happening without harm, why don’t they show it to us whereas they are showing us every other detail of their products? They have good reason not to, because there is no such thing as a clean animal skin production without harming cows, humans and the environment. The only thing a manufacturer can do is increase their effort for a better future, and we are helping with in-depth talks and interviews by presenting the increasing customer demand for sustainable luxury. Tesla was the first one to react in a major way now. So meanwhile, we more often also get feedback that a lot of manufacturers are working on leather-free interiors and are aware of the situation. E.g. Bentley, Mini and Kia have started vegan car interior programmes. Besides Tesla, Mercedes already shows major choices for sustainable interiors, you always have to pay attention to the details when ordering, of course - and we are happy to give advice. However, much has to be done still and the Autogefuehl community is massively helping in boosting the positive change! Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!
How is the overtaking acceleration? I i'm in love with this car and the new Takumi (Signature) trim, but i'm worried about the 2.5 naturally aspirated engine performance. I did a test drive but still can't decide. Top torque at 4000 rpms is "scary". I know the diesel engines are with twin-turbo and a lot of torque, but i just can't force myself to get near a diesel car. :)
Mazda 6 driver since 1986 and still a happy owner. It is an affordable and reliable car and affordable to maintain
Now drive the Mazda 6 wagon 2.5i full option.
Once Mazda driver always Mazda driver !
Still one of the sexiest exteriors of it's class.
It looks great, probably the best looking sedan in its class.
The rear view camera really needs an upgrade, actually the whole display is kinda low res. That being said everything else about the car is extremelly well designed.
Hopefully we will see a new infotainment with the next generation Mazda 3 coming next!
Ali si jo že peljal? :)
They needed to keep something for the next facelift... Same with the previous model. Mazda's old strategy.
Thanks! And interesting report!
Really amazing that they did that even when warranty has run out
Autogefühl Wow great to hear back from you Thomas, you’ve become a bit of an auto-hero for me.
Cool!
One of the most beautiful cars on sale today and a great value too.
+ all versions eu 6d
Danke, Thomas and Katherina!
Nicely reviewed. Mazda punching above their weight which is nice to see.
Smooth driving btw 👏🏻
Come on Mazda, PLEASE ship the wagon to the US!
My sentiments exactly...
come on Mazda, ship the 2.5 Turbo in Europe
sharikmarius everyone buys suvs over there
No, mazda make a manual transmission, 2.8l turbo, 4wd car and of course as a wagon.
Mazda's response: Cancels the 6 entirely...
Great reviews Thomas and beautiful cars. Mazda sure are on a roll :-)
thanks andy!
Normally I would say the estate is a better choice but this car looks so good as a sedan that I would be too tempted to get that.
Rigth when I am getting interested on the Mazda 6 SW, Autogefuhl reads my mind and uploads this video!!!
=)
22:43 I think the phrase in English is: "no replacement for displacement".
Great video as always!
Keep it up!
Koreans are no longer cheap, at least in Europe. Their new offerings cost pretty much as much as VWs.
@José Ferreira
Let me put it this way.
Korean.
Thomas... Hello from Neumarkt ObF. Your English is excellent. I really like your videos. They are very informative and clean. Keep up the good work.
🤘
thanks for taking this Mazda to real traffic condition and showing us some hot-tempered drivers! always coming to your channel to see new car reviews, thanks and Keep up the great work😀 Love Autogefühl😃
👍👍
The best car reviews on the tube...Thank you...
you making wonderfull car reviews sir, i watch many of them, allways you providing extra informations and life needed informations
Thank you so much! Please recommend our channel 🙏
Cool!
Still one of the best in class! Looks great too.
A note though - most of the difference in size is actually in the wheelbase. The wagon is arund 7-8 cm shorter between the axles :)
Beautiful design, naturally aspirated engine, good build quality interior, good driving dynamics and good practicality. What else can you ask for a mainstream car?
the gearbox, cover the gearbox. forget the engine, it's a traditional petrol engine with 4 cylinders, the most common engine in the history of mechanics. the gearbox is what people have questions about, as that's the controversial component of mazda. unlike others, they use torque converter gearboxes, not double clutch. unlike others, they have 6 speed one, not 7/8/10 speeds. what's that like to drive? is it quick? is it laggy? is it smooth?
i like your reviews on cars for everyday people. you find as many good things as you find in the s class type cars. always fair and honest. im super fascinated by the fact that you can more effectively understand and communicate who the customer is for each car better than the manufacturers can. it also helps that Thomas is so easy to look at and listen to :)
thanks and feel free to recommend :)
Sehr sehr schönes Auto, ich finde allgemein, dass die Autos von Mazda sehr elegant und stylish aussehen💯 und wie immer tolles Video👌
besten Dank !
Same here. Great design change shift from previous design philosophy's. Tremendous design and product from such a small car company.
Anyone noticed Thomas had the same outfit as the previous model review? 🙂
Great review as always
haha funny coincidence =)
First time seeing CarPlay in action on Mazda 💯💯💯, even though it’s inconspicuously hidden within ‘applications’. Thanks Thomas!
Thanks
thanks Tony!
Wow - what an extensive review. Couldn't get through it all but very well put together. Thanks for sharing!
welcome!
What I wouldn't give to have that "wagon" version here in the states.
Only thing i miss from the previous style was the fog lights in front, apart from that, nice! (Still happy with my 2018 Mazda 3!)
My thoughts exactly!
They're built in the headlights now..
Without them the car looks more classy.
Keep up the good work.
thanks for the support !!
Ich bekomm meinen Mitte August :) freue mich sehr darauf!
cool !
Full leather (incl dashboard), the safety assistant features, power seats with ventilation, keyless entry, Bose sound system, head up display... very impressive! 🙂👍
I would really like to try it and compare how it compares to my Mercedes E-class. Not as much space of course but it lookslike really good value! A 4 cyl Mercedes E-class with this sort of equipment would be like €60k.
I think you forgot to mention/show that sedan has more legroom due to larger wheelbase. Otherwise great review!
The Golf is literally the Audi A3 with a different look
Are you gonna drive door handle sound?
I have the 2015 2.0 manual sedan and I love it. Had it for almost two months now.
Thomas reviewings are always accurate and pecise : Deutsch qualitatt. Thanks a lot for your good job Thomas. FD
😎
Yes indeed they combine certain options
yes it is a shame, with our new CX-5 petrol in UK, no safety pack or sunroof option, those were diesel only. they also need to wise-up to having turbos fitted, overtaking on Scottish highland roads with a 2.0L NA engine, is not effortless, even after some magic from Quantum Tuning.
Cheers.
Afaik HUD is a standard equipment regardless ordered version of the vehicle
Beautiful colour and a very nice car!👌 great vid as always!👍😎
How do you rate this car, up against the equivalent version of Opel Insignia and Ford Mondeo? Cheers!
Love that car even if it's already sooo long on sale😍
This is the Mazda 6 in the recent facelift,
for you here on Autogefühl, your number
1 resource for in-depth car reviews and
your number 1 community to discuss cars
with Thomas. We're going to take a detail
look on the exterior (both the estate and
the sedan) and the interior (most changes
happening there, this will be very interesting
I can promise you) and also the driving
experience here as usual. And everything
of that, in full HD, full screen and full length.
Let's go!
Wie immer top video und top auto
Thanks, as usual an honest review.
appreciated !
I wish we got the Estate (wagon) here in the US...
Great review as always, Herr Thomas!
thank u !
Man, tell me about it! I just can't understand Americans obsession with SUVs. I'd dump my car THIS SECOND if the Mazda 6 Estate became available in the US.
Finally Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ! and thank you for the review
I have a 3 series BMW Tourer. I love the damn car but the lack of phone to auto data tethering and lack of Android auto is forcing me to go with another brand. I really like what Mazda had done here. Definitely on my top 3 list
Excellent review, many thanks!
I wish more manufacturers would put heated front window like the VAG cars. It is one of the most underappreciated features out there.
ford does it also:)
awesome review guys, as usual! I only regret that the 2.5T engine is not available for Europe...
thanks todor!
Nice car i like its look and the driving dynamics...the interior is really impressive.
Thanks! If u wanna know more about the animal skin issue we can provide background info
If you have a minor bump on the front be prepared for a massive bill. Sensors and the replacement mounts cost a fortune
It's called car insurance
I have a 2014 estate Sport version with the 2.2 diesel. It is a very good car. Thanks for one of the most complete reviews I have seen!
I love how Thomas suggests (Vegan leather) without being pushy. Very detailed review, great job.
Grait video for one very good car. Im interesting for the tourer version..i have family so I need more space. Thank you for all this information.
appreciated !
Один из самых красивых универсалов! 👍
You mentioned "different acoustics"... Is the sedan quieter in the back than the combi (station wagon)?
Not a big difference, maybe a little. Thats always the case because sounds from the rear a dampened then
@@autogefuehl thank you very much for responding and for the valuable info!
As usual a superb review Thomas. Even more undecided now which tourer to get.
🙏
Have now decided to get the 2.5. Thanks for your help Thomas.
Keeps the premium manufacturers on their heels to push even further and we as customers profit a lot from that :P
thanks pal ! =)
Thomas, I guess you at 22:45 you meant: "there’s no replacement for displacement"
great review Thomas, decent car. improved interior. Always had the problem with luggage cover spring breaking . Wasn't clear if the new one is an improvement in design. On my car it has broken twice(very expensive to replace/repair)
Thanks! Oh which exact part u mean?
In America they say “No replacement for displacement”:)
Half of the comments on this video will be this XD
Womz I tried to post it first:)
Or "there's no substitute for cubic inches"
I think "harmonious" is the word you're looking for? Another awesome review :)
thanks! What would be the difference between harmonic and harmonious ?
Harmonic has to do with interactions of waves (usually musical but can be any physical waveform). It can be used as an adjective but is most often used as a noun. For example: "A Porsche 911 engine being taken to red-line produces many upper-order harmonics."
Harmonious simply means pleasing to the ear... sweet-sounding. For example: "A Porsche 911 engine being taken to red-line produces a wonderfully harmonious sound."
cool thx
I've been watching and loving your reviews for like 2 years, and for some reason I felt compelled to post an English lesson today. I don't mean to come across as condescending; just trying to help.
Keep up the great work!
thanks keep following !
The wagon with a stick is what I want. The inside is really nice.
Great review, thank you! I would like to ask, KIA OPTIMA SW or MAZDA 6? I like Mazda Engines, interior, I like more Kia exterior and features ... what do you think?
hey peter, u can compare our Optima review here: ruclips.net/video/y1Ym9RgXiSM/видео.html
Autogefühl danke das habe ich schon gesehen, ich möchte gerne eine Meinung von ein Fahrer/Tester welcher beide Fahrzeuge gefahren hat haben ... Sie können es auch privat beantworten...
hm they both have their strength and are good cars, I would compare the offers at the dealer
Great Car. I love my 2009 Mazda6 SportCombi :)
Hello Thomas, do you have the Peugeot 508 review coming soon? Can't wait for that one. Thanks!
yes it will air today
Fantastic, thank you so much and all the best!
Love your videos
thanks ! =)
Thanks! I think I did talk about that quite a lot, didnt I ? :)
Full screen and full length, but I don't have wifi so I'm stuck at 240p.
Doesn't really matter, still love these vids.
Thank you for the amazing videos, I just got one question. Does this new Mazda 6 have the Sky-active X Technology they have been developing ?
Thanks! No. See more about that here: ruclips.net/video/Jgsug4KkAqM/видео.html
:) Yeah I did see that video, very good Tech. Do you know when its coming ?
With the new Mazda3 as I said, I think they ll present the series production model at LA Motor Show in November
thank you. you are awesome.
Wow Thomas, coming to Romania ?! Epic Stuff! If you come through Bucharest, please post, maybe a chat or autograph session :D Cheers !
😎
Mazda is not riding this 1.0-1.5 turbo petrol engines waves...Very cool
1.5 turbo feels like 2.0 N/A.
But this 2.5 feels so strong.
Own a 2018 saloon and my only complaint is that the seat bases are too firm and on long drives can give you a numb bottom.
love your canal, one wish do let us see the indicator lights in the front first if the indicator are att the wrong side of the headlights i can go to another rew.
Excuse me, what do u mean?
I love your videos! Keep up the good work
appreciated - feel free to spread the word for our videos :)
I’m about to pick up my M6 2.5 SkyDream. I can’t actually wait for it. I will definitely write my review. Opposite you recommend I’ve chosen Sedan 🙃 and l’m really curious if my impression will meet yours. Sincerely
cool keep us updated :)
i jak Twoja mazda?
Thomas, how would you compare the handling and steering feel of this version, compared to for 2018 model?
And do you have a favorite sporty wagon in general (that is good fun to drive, with good handling, steering feel and less cabin noise, and yes i have to have a diesel option:)? Thanks for your honest reviews:)
Thanks for tuning in! Hmm the Mazda6 hasnt changed that much in the recent model years. I mean, yes the facelift is a little fancier in the interior now, but not that different as for driving.
Sure what about these:
ruclips.net/video/O3Cu0hcsoGA/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/we42jRFMilE/видео.html
Is it better noise insulation or improved active noise cancellation?
Is it me, or did it look like you had more rear leg room in the sedan than the estate?
It is not just you, the sedan has a longer wheelbase (8 centimeters more) and there IS more legroom. I have no clue why Mazda opted for that decision. Apparently their thinking is that the estate is for families with small children in the back only. But that exactly gives you a big problem if trying to fit a reboarder child seat, as you then need the same legroom as for a really tall adult person.
A few questions
CarPlay is not wireless then?
It wasn’t 100% clear Did you see Nav directions on HUD when using Apple Maps?
Would you choose a top spec 6 over low spec A4/3series/Cclass/V60?
wireless carplay is smth only BMW is offering.
Dont know about the mirroring plus HUD
Autogefühl If Apple turn directions on the HUD then Mazda will be the first OEM to do this since Apple real eased the feature two years ago
23:42 There is probably no Reißverschlusssystem in Spain (was it Spain?).
Yes kinda, Majorca :)
Thomas, Mazda6 or Lexus IS300h? Vielen dank!
Hey Thomas, in English the saying is "There's no replacement for displacement". Cheers :)
=)
Hope this helps someone.
thanks for the feedback, keep enjoying :)
Is the 2.5 N/A engine any good, such as when having the car full of passengers or going up hill, or is the 2.2D better in that regard?
That should come close
Japanese don't know how to make good diesels, europeans have figured that out.
very nice review! I am looking forward to the new mx5 video. I drive a mazda 6 2017 myself and I enjoy every ride in it, it really let me think of a bmw the way it drives, it has te same natural flow in it's driving characteristics with a sporty touch in the steering and chassis.
cool !
Nice to watch a car video from a german perspective,. Danke!
appreciated !
Hello Thomas ,nice mid segment car .Pretty affordable for normal folks too .I just have one question .Is the automatic gearbox a dual-clutch or a torque konverter? Anyway great review Thomas, detailed and precise as always, keep it up!
afaik they never had DCT
Torque converter with lockup device (wet clutch), further two wet clutches, one for 1-3 gear and other for 4-6 gear. Actually they're with 3 different types of torque converter for for different max. torque moments, small cars with 1.5G-1.5D becoming EW-type, gasoline 2.0G and 2.5G FW-type, 2.5T and 2.2D becoming GW-type transmission.
Hi ,thanks for the detailed info.I just have a question,is a wet or dry clutch more durable ? Thanks.
Wet is definitely more durable.
@32:39 the MINI driver remember your mother I guess..:) watch out when change the lane..Good review by the way..thanks.
No turbo engine for Europe!? What a pity. How to understand this decision when most automakers have gasoline turbo offerings nowadays?
Naturally aspirated 2.5 engine is very expensive already, turbocharged one just wouldn't sell, not to mention high fuel consumption.
I think it’s combined with ecological regulations
In DK its comes with LED headlamps as standard on all trim-levels :) Just for information :)
Interesting! Thank you :)
it‘s the same here in germany. you have led headlights in every trim-level. in the sports plus package you get the matrix led lights.
i think that the information in the video is just wrong
OK now... Mazda 6 or Peugeot 508?....? Or maybe Ford Mondeo or KIA Optima?
Volkswagen Passat or Skoda Superb for practicality and comfort.
Peugeot for the best compromise between styling and comfort.
Check out our special video addressing car CEOs as a first summary and also see conditions of animal skin production:
ruclips.net/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/видео.html
List of practical reasons against animal skin seats:
1. animal skin seats are often sold as an expensive option, by going for base trim level seats you can save a lot of money and get a better price-performance-deal (often the manufacturers claim that animal leather is top of luxury because they can earn the best money with it)
2. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat, probably you need seat cooling
3. they get very cold in winter and you need seat heating
4. on cloth or microfibre surfaces, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
5. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like an old sofa
6. if you want leather look or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ruclips.net/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/видео.html) So Tesla shows a good example for that and as described, non-leather materials are now standard for ALL Tesla
7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather)
To the environmental reasons:
1. The way the cows and other intelligent and social animals are raised and held are not according to the basic values that we all share (also see videos below)
2. See this interesting essay for more on climate emissions background: www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf
A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
To “But leatherette is not sustainable due to petrochemical production”
1. Indeed some fabrics and micro fibres are oil based, however most oil is spent on energy production, heating and fuel. The share of oil used for artificial cloth etc. is very very small.
2. If you look at the whole production process, the leatherette is way more sustainable than the leather produce. Even if you leave the ethical aspect aside, here is the official calculation of the CO2-Output animal skin vs leatherette (different kinds of leatherette):
Leather 17 kg CO2/m²
PVC leatherette 10 kg CO2/m²
Acella Eco natural leatherette 8,5 kg CO2/m²
Benova (PUR leatherette): 8 kg CO2/m²
So by using the latest high-tech leatherette, you even the CO2-emissions are cut in half!
3. The best to-come solution are indeed plant-based materials like Pinatex (based on pineapple leaves) or new materials based on mycelia (roots of mushrooms) or other innovative natural products. That’s the future.
More special video episodes:
1. A initial special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ruclips.net/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/видео.html
2. And another one right here: ruclips.net/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/видео.html
3. Furthermore, you’ll find the footage of leather production also here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ruclips.net/video/JipYvuDsI6s/видео.html
timecode starting 27:46
4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ruclips.net/video/OgHs239bAnE/видео.html
5. Please note that those videos are made by well-known journalists and cameramen who were not influenced by any animal welfare organisation, they supply their footage to the animal rights groups of course. I partly know the creators of the video footage personally and they are all authentic. You don’t have to search long to find cruel production environments anyway.
Manufacturers reactions:
We started the very first inquiry years ago, with the result that car manufacturers do not reveal their sources of animal skin AT ALL.
Checked the driving part? :)
Sure i did. Multiple times :D
