Given thats its more than a 4 year design, it has aged VERY well, and exterior still looks modern, sleek, and sporty. Love the new front lights and grill!

I have had the Mazda 6 Signature for just over a month and am very happy with it. I love the subtle quality of this car. Everything works well and is not in your face. The seats are really comfortable and the driving position is just right for me. The heads-up display is clear, bright and useful. The car is quiet while cruising but has a subdued roar when you accelerate. You feel road imperfections but they are not harsh and feel controlled. The navigation system is a little crude compared to the new Honda system and does not show live traffic. However, it does show the location of red light and speed cameras and uses live traffic in the background to route you around bottle necks. When Apple Car Play becomes available this month, I will probably use that for Navigation. I have tested the Honda Accord 2.0T Touring and liked it but little things disturbed me about it. The passenger seat is only 4 way with no height adjustment and there are no USB ports in the back and no 360 camera. I also am not thrilled with the push button shifter. It is right next to the cup holders and spilled drinks could drip inside shorting things out. A car is a complicated vehicle and must be looked at holistically. Saying that, in my opinion the Mazda is just better than it's competitors.

Just had a Signature as a loaner. I agree, it is a little soft off the line. But I think that it's torque management to save the trans from the abuse of 310 lb-ft that is more to blame. Not unusual for high torque FWD vehicles. 63-75 mph on a long interstate drive got me 35.7 mpg avg. Overall quite impressed.

Just bought a Mazda 6 Signature today. Traded my Durango in. Mine has Android Auto so I don't even care that the main infotainemnt is dated since I very rarely ever have to use it. Mine has the Parchment interior and it's just honestly beautiful! Cant wait to rack up the miles! The drive home today was averaging 33.8 mpg so no complaints at all!

  • @yongmj8762

The interior alone has already more "wow" factor than all of its competitors, in the end of day I will still pick this over the accord no matter how faster the accord is compared to this 6 probably because the 6 is already fast enough for a family car.

    • @AndresSalazarAutos
      @AndresSalazarAutos 4 года назад +5

0-60 times for the Mazda6 I believe is affected by the narrow and low grip tires, also, the Mazda only has 6 forward gears. However, the high amount of torque makes passing times quite fast, according to C&D it is faster than both the Accord 2.0T and Camry V6 in the passing tests 30-50 and 50-70mph.

I got mine on 12/18/2018. Midnight Blue Signature w/White Nappa Leather. It somehow looked like Blueberries & Creme to me. Named her, River. On road trips to L.A. from NorCal, I've had to hurriedly move ahead those who just don't get the whole I-5 open highway thing. That mid-torque, oh man, that's really where she shines. There's been at least three times where the car is so quick, runs so smooth, handles so well that I suddenly realize: I'm over 100, about to break 110/mph. Yet I only think I'm maybe pushing 90. You know, I don't look, just trying to put some distance between me and the chaos. And so, I just lift my foot off of the gas pedal, and let the radar cruise control take back over. Best feature ever btw. 🙌 😍 Well that and the air-cooled seats. 😆

  • @TheParot161

I have had one of these since 2018 and it is now 2022. Excellent car! Great driving experience. Reliable with no mechanical issues whatsoever. The cooled seats might will be the best in the business. I have a 2021 Honda odyssey van and the cooled seats are only about half as effective as they are in this Mazda 6.

I spend 3hours every day driving to work and back, and I'd rather be in this car than a Camry or an Accord. The interior quality is far better and the road noise levels are like night and day against the Camry and Accord that feel like a John Deere tractor. From a subjective point of view, the exterior styling is timeless. Driving shouldn't be about traffic light show-downs so 0 - 60 times are irrelevant to me. That mid range usable torque and the ability to attack a corner wins hands down. This is the closest thing to a premium segment Audi, BMW or Mercedes but without the price tag. BTW. Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity are coming before the end of the year.

People that say driving is not about traffic lights show downs its not about 0-60 acceleration blah blah blah are the people that dont have fast enough cars to prevent people from passing them and cutting them off. Cars that are fast off the line are faster in the mid range "usable tourqe" area idiots like you tout. And handling is so bad in any of these fwd cars so i dont know what you people are talking about. Rear wheel drive is what good handling cars use for a reason. Do not try to corner fast in these camarys and mazda 6 your over confidence will get u into trouble. A 20 year old car will handle just as good as these. Every mazda 6 owner should buy a chip for this take it to a dyno tuner and add more boost to this and fuel and smooth out the power curve. I get 280 hp at 6000rpm and 340 ft lbs at 4500rpm. I smoke you nigga

NOTE: I read a forum from someone that makes an excellent point: I do want to caution on the test drives here guys. There's a programming curve at play here on these new cars. Coming from the 2.5L OVTuned world, I understand how the engine works when it gets flashed for 93 Octane. It's a complete dog for the first 100 miles while the knock sensors adjust to their new standard of operation. While the programming ideology is nothing new, you do have to know what to expect from a motor that functions with these dynamic programming methods.
When the new 2018s arrive on the lot, the ECU has no idea what kind of fuel is in the car since Mazda went the route of dynamic knock sensors. So over the time, the ECU first puts the ignition timing at a safe level when it arrive on the lot, and as miles are put on the car, it incrementally adjusts that ignition timing to create more power. It will continue to incrementally adjust that timing until the knock sensors determine threshold based on the fuel.
Suffice to say, when you test drive one of these new 2018s, the power your experiencing, is not the actual power the engine puts out, so don't let it fool you. I will say, I was thoroughly disappointed in my test drive until I realized what the motor was doing. Today, with 800+ miles on the motor, I will say that thing is a different animal than the one I test drove -- granted I'm using 93, but the same theory I described above is true with 87. The engine has to first determine what kind of fuel you're using before it can really wake up.
Just something to keep in mind when you're going for a test drive on these. Case and point, I could barely get the tires to spin from a stop, and now I can light them up in first gear. It's quite an amazing difference.
This will help you future 2018 mazda owners. :)

Here in Europe we are very familiar with turbo engines last 8 years. And most car manufacturers sell cars here with a turbo engine. And that sounds positive but in real life it ain't that good. Most of the turbo's breaking down before 100.000 km. And replacing a turbo is very expensive. Other downsides are that most turbo engines are drinking more oil than gas and fuel effinciency dissapoints comparing to natural aspired.
Sky activ and hybrid is way more reliable and are more fuel efficient.

Also, as someone who's only looking for a fun daily driver and not the fastest car in the segment, I don't feel the same disappoint a lot of y'all seem to be feeling. I wasn't expecting this to be anything like a Speed6. I'm super proud of Mazda for hanging in there with the big boys and actually producing an attractive, unique car. I hope they continue their move upmarket, because so far the results have been rather impressive. They're doing a lot for a company with a relatively small budget and limited R&D resources. This Mazda 6 (and as early as the 2016 CX-9) are definitely harbingers for the direction Mazda is heading, and I for one am stoked to see where they're going.
And with all this focus on the turbo engine, people seem to be overlooking the base 2.5L for this car, the one with cylinder deactivation. Mazda is the ONLY car company in all of North America to even offer a 4cyl with this configuration. I think that's pretty noteworthy, and I would love to know more, but no one ever reviews the Sport and Touring trims. I don't get it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I bought a 6 Signature six weeks ago and I am very happy with it so far. I choose it over the 2018 Camary (looked like it is trying to be a Transformer toy) and the 2018 Accord (nice, but could not get past it's pug nose styling). Coming from a 2006 Lexus IS250, the 6 has a better interior and power. Six weeks in and no problems what so ever. I actually preferred the 6 speed transmission over the Accord's 10 speed. The Accord's transmission always felt it was hunting for the correct gear while the Mazda used its higher torque to stay in the same gear when I punched the throttle.
According to my dealer, Apple car play and Android Auto will be available for a free upgrade in July for customers that have already bought a 6 in the upper trim levels.

    • @chuckmusic8003

I prefer new cars to used and the 6 was in my price range. I also live about 2 hours away from my nearest Lexus dealer and my Mazda dealer is only about 20 minutes away, so I was tired of taking a whole day just to take my IS250 to the service dept or wait for them to get a driver to come pick my car up and drive it back to the dealer for service. Plus in 2009 I bought a RX350 for my wife at the same dealership and the business manager pulled a bait and switch con on me and charged me a 4% higher interest rate on my loan that I had agreed too without me noticing until after I signed the papers, then refused to tear up the papers unless I got a lawyer and sued. So no going back to that Lexus dealership for me ever!!!

Chuck Music Congrats man, such a beautiful and elegant car..i have few questions if you don't mind since you have the car for a good time.
1- how is the fuel economy?
2- have you noticed any turbo lag?
      3- how comfortable it is?
4- last but not least can you describe the power, like can you tell it has that amount of torque?
i have my eyes on this car but it's still not available here until 2019.

    • @chuckmusic8003
      @chuckmusic8003 6 лет назад +14

      1. I've got about 1200 miles on it now. I live about 7 miles from my work and I have mostly done home to work and driving around my home town. I have not done any trips longer than 30-40 miles or any interstate travel with it since the day I bought it. So far I am getting about 22 mpg city using only 93 octane. However on a nearby flat 4-lane road I did average about 33 mpg at a steady 65 mph for about 20 miles. I expect the mpg to go up slightly when the engine gets more use.
      2. I haven't really noticed any turbo lag since the turbo comes in at around a low 2000 RPM. The engine's exhaust manifold has a valve that almost shuts down the exhaust going to the turbo at low RPMs. This is like putting your thumb over the end of a water hose with the water running, when the thumb goes over, the water pressure goes up and goes from a trickle to a spray. The same thing happens with the Mazda's exhaust valve. The extra exhaust pressure spins up the turbo quicker and at a lower RPM so there is hardly any turbo lag at all. The valve opens at a set higher RPM so the turbo acts as normal from there up. There is little bit of lag if you mash the gas from idle which is about 800 RPM, but around 2000 and up, there is no lag.
      3. Comfort is relative, but it is more comfortable and quiet than my old Lexus IS250 but not as environment numbing as a Lexus ES350. The new front seats are very comfortable and I could see myself driving for several hours at a time without having to take a break. But the handling performance of the car is balanced to make it more sporty feeling then "Rolls Royce" level comfort.
      4. The power is very linear when the turbo kicks in at 2000 RPM and all the way to redline at 6000. I can be cruising at 50-60 mph and punch the throttle to pass a car, and the 6 turbo takes off and accelerates very well. I can feel the torque, but I just ended 12 years in a car that had about half as much torque as the 6 does. It's not like a car with 400+ HP, but for a small 4 cylinder in a 5 passenger 4 door sedan it's got enough power for me. Now if I were expecting power like out of a BMW M5 or AMG C63, I would be disappointed, but for its class, it has plenty of power. For a daily driver, it has more than enough power for normal uses, just don't expect it to be as powerful as sports sedans in higher classes.
      Hope this helps..

I got a mazda6 signature in soul red metallic/cream on black interior recently & I will say, this car... is incredible. I tested it against the Accord (2018 model) and it blows it out of the water re. interior materials and comfort + I liked the feel of the 2.5t engine/6 speed auto over the somewhat twitchy 2.0l/9 speed in the Accord.. I know its down on gears but the ratios and operation are fantastic. I really dont miss the extra gears. Also, the Mazda was much cheaper, and they gave me a set of winter tires, tint, full weather mats and a few other things for free, plus full interior protection/dents/rims/all glass (it has a heads up display) for nearly free as well. The dealer experience was also much better @ Mazda where I live. I am very happy with my decision.

when u drive sporty cars frequently u tend to think any car with below 300hp is inadequate. and I agree the regular 6 is decent on city roads and highway cruising. and the manual.. every reviewer complains about oooh how there isn't a manual with a turbo. NOBODY BUYS THEM EXCEPT 10 RUclips REVIEWERS who complain. so many reviewers need to first get in the mind of an average car buyer before saying anything.

100% True. Last year, I made the mistake of buying a brand new Dodge Charger Daytona, which turned out to be a nightmare. It had a HP gauge and I never even used half the horsepower it had. I mean the fastest you're supposed to go is 65 on the freeway, and after a very expensive speeding ticket, thats how fast I would go

I bought a 2018 Mazda Signature in Soul Crystal Red. The first one in Ontario Canada. 1st impression, amazing smooth ride! My only complaint is these Falkin All-season tires. With 310lbs of torque, these tires will spin if you lay down the hammer off the line. The car is begging for a good pair of Summer tires. Minor improvements would be to have digital tire pressure readouts if possible on Mazda's TPMS system. The lack of a wireless charging pad for your phone is also a nice to have. Otherwise, this car drives amazing almost like a much smaller car through the corners. 2018 improvements include a much quieter cabin through thicker glass and materials and the 19" Mazda Speed like wheels looks amazing. The interior takes allot of queues from the BMW 3 series.

  • @Vicobop

One really cool thing most will never know is that the Signature has ambient lighting at night. It's not even mentioned in the car website, but owners have reported footwell and door pocket soft white lighting. That's in addition to using LED interior lighting throughout, which with the black headliner make the Signature feel so much more luxurious and warm to be in.
I test drove both the Turbo GT and the Accord 2.0T. I loved the refinement of the Mazda and the turbo whine has a nice sound to it. But as you said in the Camry vs Accord review, the Accord is visceral. Louder, more potent, nervous. It speaks to you if you are looking for that sort of experience.
Owners have also reported the engine needs several hundred miles to develop a broader performance due to how they tuned it. It needs time to read and understand the type of gas you decide to put in and figure out how to supply optimal power, so for a lot of car reviews, the actual tractability of the car will not be known to them as they're driving low mileage models. Not to mention from many reviews the 6 most excels at passing power, like 30-70.
I did find its sweet spot there myself during test driving.
I also found the 6 handled better, was more responsive and linear in the steering department. The Accord (which I own now) is more synthetic and artificially more weighted. It's a disappointment at times to me.
I still went Accord because I wanted new tech gadgets and powertrain experiences which, after owning 2 Mazdas, I was ready to try out. I do miss a few features that made the Signature so damn good, like the ventilated seats which actually cool within 5 seconds due to their inverse design, the black headliner and the ambient lighting.
Lastly, too bad you were given a white paint one. I really think white does not fit Mazdas because of their design. I wish they gave you the Soul Red Crystal. But that's just the nature of vehicle reviews, you take what you can get.

Well done Mazda....this beats Accord and Camry at their own game, particularly in the styling department! Yes, it may be an older design, but by far, more sleek and well balanced over the other two! And will still look better in 2020 by the time a redesign comes. The others may have better power trains and faster engines but most drivers could care less. The Accord is a big let down from the ‘17MY design, which I felt was much better.

Benjamin Williams For someone like me, those numbers are meaningless. The issue with the Accord for me was how the console where the ignition switch is at is low. If the console stayed a little narrower and flared at the top less, my kneecap would be in front of dead space. I also where 14 shoes which eats up space as well. The Mazda 6 pedals and console are laid out better in regards to my size.

Aman Rajput I think you may be correct that Mazda intentionally "toned down" the turbo performance. When I drove them back to back I was surprised to find the Mazda6 felt more like the Camry naturally aspirated V6 than the Accord 2.0L turbo. Handling was better than the Toyota and equal to (or a smidge better) than the Accord. Could be that Mazda benchmarked the Camry as its chief competitor and wanted the turbo to act more like a "family" car than the Accord.

I like the reviews here. But, one thing I've heard here and elsewhere is that this car should have a 10- speed automatic transmission.
This car with 300+ lbft of torque - over a wide RPM range does NOT need a 10 speed automatic transmission! That is ridiculous. Even my non-turbo Mazda6 (making less torque) doesn't need a 10-speed transmission.
Now, I've always said that the 5-speed manual Mazda3 (2006) I had, should have an extra gear - an additional overdrive for highway driving because I felt the car should get more than 32 MPG on the highway. My Mazda6 (2015) gets better gas milage than that (34 MPG on the highway).
Seriously, no one driving a Mazda6 Turbo could honestly say that there's some problematic ratio between any two gears where an additional gears are needed.
What's next, people exclaiming that this car would be better, "If only it had a '20-speed' auto transmission"? Okay, and exactly how would that make this car better? How would even a 10-speed auto trans make this car better? The difference between 2,500 RPM and 2,900 RPM (for example) does not require a gear change in this car. The torque power band in this engine covers a wide RPM range. For this particular car, a 6-speed transmission is perfectly fine.
No one is going to be towing 10,000 lbs up and over mountains with this car.
(People don't remember or didn't know that cars used to come with 2-speed and 3-speed automatic transmissions, that's why "4 on the floor" was a big deal. But, the talk about this car needing a 10-speed automatic transmission should stop.) My venting is over. ☺️

the accord 10 speed really helps with the acceleration vs the mazda's 6 speed. 10 speed is nice but I feel like those might be more prone to problems later in life with so many more "moving parts". also with Mazda's is a low volume brand so they don't have as big as a parts bin to play with.

I got the car, I disagree with Sofyan's view on the acceleration. From a standstill, the car is definitely quick and you feel the low end torque, as it easily lights up the tires but once you get past 80mph, the car sort of falls on its face. It really lacks horsepower and torque at the higher rpms.Hopefully there will be some aftermarket tunes you can get for this car. I will data log with a boost gauge soon to see if boost is tapering at the higher rpms. Something I suspect it is doing.

    Conclusion
We try hard not to pick favorites at Torque News. In this segment, the Audi A4, Toyota Camry XSE V6, Honda Accord 2.0T Touring are all excellent choices. However, ours would be the Mazda6 Signature. We would strongly recommend that shoppers for a midsize premium sedan consider the Mazda6 before over-spending on one of the brands on which the automakers and auto media collude to consider somehow better than the mainstream brands. Spending more for a great car in this category is an exercise in vanity. This Mazda6 proves it.

Not sure why you didn't mention that Android Auto and Carplay will be available. It was announced. I actually enjoy the growl of my 2.5 NA engine. If the turbo is the same then I'm happy. :) And Mazda's design is the most cohesive IMO. Camry and Accord both felt cheaper to me. And that red Camry interior lacks elegance. Otherwise as usual, nice review.

The 6 has finally got some ACTUAL BALLS. In addition to being the best looking in the class IMO.

2 years later, the Accord is looking sharp and modern. The Mazda is a good looking design, but showing it's age.

The 2018-2022 Accord looks like a ugly cybernetic bug, it's trying to hard to look futuristic, and Honda knew that so they toned the look of the 2023 Accord down... Only problem is they went too far down and now the 2023 accord looks like an emaciated 2011 Ford Taurus.
They just aren't that good looking to me, I guess they look better then the new Hyundai's and Toyota's but that's not saying much... Also they are just Accords and everyone's uncle/aunt owns one, you walk out into a parking lot and there's 20 other Accords parked around it. The 6 is far far far FAR more rare to see on the road compared to the Accord! I see WAY more Mercedes C, E, and S-class vehicles in my area then I ever see these newer Mazda 6's, I see more Porsche 911's then newer 6's!!!
The Mazda 6 imo looks more grown up, luxurious... It has body lines for days that look sculpted by hand and not designed in a computer program like the Accord and almost everything else on the road. The Mazda dare I say looks as timeless in the face and body as a Maserati, meanwhile the Accord is... an Accord, witch is about as timeless as a Camry or Chevy Malibu.
In 20 years I can see someone collecting and restoring the 6 in this video! While tossing the Accord in a scrap yard to rust away like the ten's of million of 90's and early 2000's Accords currently in them, or sat on a used lot on the side of the highway selling for 3-5k because there's nothing at all rare or special about a Honda if your not talking about a S2000... The Accord is nothing like a S2000...
IDK whats more fill in the gap, basic, boring, or worthy of the tile of generic background car that get crushed by a rock in a Marvel movie other then the: Accord, Camry, or Altima other then maybe their compact counterparts the Corolla, Civic and Sentra. There is nothing appealing about any of them and they become dated within a single year of a new generation coming out because everyone else on your block is buying one the same time as you.
The Mazda manages to stand out in a crowded parking lot, the Accord just blends in to a point you might accidentally try and get into someone else's car thinking its yours.

You can now update Apple CarPlay on this car free from the dealerships. I know some people don’t care but I don’t mainly for maps with Apple. Also I love the music app for iPhones. I love the new accord but something about this car draws me more to it
