I would love to see a Harrison vs. Sawyer battle in the first round to get a Mega Blaziken vs. Mega Sceptile showdown. That would be even better. That would show how far Sawyer has come before facing Ash. Ash vs. Brandon 6-on-6 would be awesome, especially if Ash uses all his powerhouses. Drake could face Kukui, and Sabrina against Tobias.
Brandon absolutely deserved to be included in the masters 8. The anime dedicated an entire season to the frontier brains, and then have rarely been mentioned again. With characters in both the games and anime, not including at least one is a major travesty.
Sabrina: If you take Giovanni out of the equation, Sabrina is probably the most powerful Kanto gym leader so I think so. Drake: He's never really lost. The only trainer who beat him was Ash so why not. Harrison: Maybe. It might be unnecessary but at the same time it could be done right. Brandon: It might be hard for him to return considering his job. However, Regielkei and Regidraco exists so...... Tobais: I don't really want to see him again. Sawyer: Yes. Plain and simple. Vergil: Yes also. That way he can add another Eeveeultion to his team and Chloe can see how that works. But don't evolve his Eevee. Professor Kukui: I wouldn't mind it.
I wouldn't have thought about Harrison or Sawyer either, but even if they would have just run into each other and had a random battle somewhere in the woods would have been cool. Virgil wasn't really interested in competing. He just wanted to show how strong his team was and bring some attention to his family's kind of work. But going on a rescue mission in Unova, then having a one on one for fun later.... I feel like Tobias could have been part of a Crown Tundra arc, where you can catch mythicals and legendaries in the caves.
Firstly, I don't think Leon should be a part of the masters 8. As the reigning champ, he should be the final challenge for whoever wins the tournament. Personally, I think the master's 8 should be: Ash (Alola) - Obviously Brendon (Hoenn) - I would've loved a reintroduction for the two new regi's, maybe he could've beaten Paul in a rematch. Hence why Paul decided against competing in the world tournament. Cynthia (Sinnoh) - she has been shown to be one powerful trainer. (spoiler alert, I'm not putting Tobias here because in both Unova & Journey's, she was still Sinnoh's champ but league winners get to challenge the champion's league. If Tobias won, he'd be the champ, not her) Giovanni (Kanto) - he's been a gym leader & working in the shadows. With TR resources at his hand, I can see him being on champ level even if shrouded in mystery. He could also be a mostly unknown trainer, without his name being released prior to a big matchup Iris (Unova) - I liked what happened with her character in this series (my favorite part of Journey's actually). Diantha (Kalos) - same logic with Alain in why I'm not putting up Tobias. She is clearly the strongest rep Kalos has being a Grand Dutchess (presumably) & champion Drake (Orange Islands) - this would've made a cool call back for sure Lance - the champ of Kanto & Johto would've been a nice show off. Matchups: Round 1: Ash v Giovanni / Iris v Drake / Cynthia v Brendon / Lance v Diantha Round 2: Ash v Lance / Cynthia v Iris Round 3: Ash v Cynthia Champ match: Ash v Leon In round one, I tried to make some hype match ups. Imagine Ash's shock to find Giovanni being the last entry in the masters eight. A grudge match between Pikachu & Persian would also be nice to see. Iris would get to face Drake, since he's one of the first major obstacles Ash beat plus a Dragonite showdown would be awesome. Brendon & Cynthia is more just fan service since both are very well characters. While honestly, Lance & Diantha are more what's left but Lance could prove his mastery of the type by overcoming a mega fairy In round two, well Cynthia v Iris was the best non-Ash battle in the masters eight so we just need to do that. Ash v Lance would be a nostalgia trip like none other and fans of the original series would be great. Does the rest of the entries need explaining? I thought not.
Honestly, The World Coronation Series Masters Tournament should have been the Top 16 Trainers. Round 1 and 2, 3 on 3, Round 3 and 4, Full 6 on 6 Battles. The trainers: Ash, Leon, Alain, Lance, Iris, Cynthia, Virgle, Hop, Brandon, Steven, Ritchie, Guzma, Agatha, Drake (Orange Islands), Flint, and Siebold. Round 1: Ash vs Alain Round 2: Ash vs Flint Round 3: Ash vs Cynthia Round 4: Ash vs Leon Other interesting matches: Iris vs Lance (Round 2), Iris vs Virgle (Round 1) Hop vs Leon (Round 1), Ritchie vs Drake, Agatha vs Siebold, Steven vs Leon (Round 3).
Ash could battle all the previous tournament winners. Ash, John Dickson, Tyson, Virgil, Sawyer, Drake, Kukui or Gladion and Tobias. They all represent a different a region. I really like This idea. I really want Brandon, the paldea champion and Paul to be in the masters 8 too though. Another masters 8 could be Ash, sawyer, Kukui, Tobias, Brandon, the paldea champion, Paul and Noland. Absolutely agree with you Prof. It's already saddening enough that these Hyper_Awesome Characters are not even mentioned in Journeys and let alone participate in the World Tournament. I can imagine how incredible it would've been when all the characters who've lost/tied/beaten Ash, see him climbing up the ladder/rankings and get motivated to take back revenge on him. Similarly vice versa for Ash too. Writers of Journeys have failed us fans a lot & making Alan loosing to Leon in such a terrible way was the FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN! Sabrina could've replaced Lance as Kanto's Champion instead of making him a double regional champ. Tobais could've beaten a strong champion like Iris or Diantha and swooped his way on to the Final 8. Kukui/Gladion/Paul/Brandon/Drake/Harrison/Sawyer could've shown why they are the some of the best brawlers out there. My thoughts with those you chose Sabrina: an actual battle that could've happened between her & Ash plus seeing if she's no longer scary Drake: a nice throwback to the orange island league & chance to see a rematch Harrison: a chance for Ash to have a rematch after losing in the Johto league Brandon: a worthy competitor and chance to showcase some new Regi Pokémon Virgil: an actual battle to unfold between Ash and Virgil's team of evolved eevees Sawyer: a chance to see how far he has come since the Kalos league Kukui: an opportunity for Ash to use his Incineroar and reunite with his mentor Cynthia and her mega Garchomp would be a nice one to showcase in a future video
I think a Master's 16 would be a good idea. You have two trainers from each region. Kanto-- Brandon & Sabrina Johto- Lance & Clair? Hoenn- Steven & Wallace Sinnoh- Cynthia & Paul Unova- Iris & Alder Kalos- Diantha & Alain Sun & Moon- Ash & Kukui Galar- Leon & Raihan
Maybe you should do an Part 2-ter video, as you said there are plenty of other trainers in the anime that could've also been included in the Masters 8. Ritchie, Clair, Morrison, Tyson, Nando, Conway, Barry, Trip, Skyla, Elesa, Olympia, Wulfric, Gladion, Hau, Hala, Acerola, Olivia, ect. Just to name an few other trainers that could have been mentioned. And maybe you could also some Ash's other Friends from past seasons, Misty, Brock, Tracey, Cilan, Clemont, Lana, Kiawe, Sophocles.
I feel like Sabrina should show as a contester for Ash, with 20 years in the making she could have more then what we've seen her had along with a proper battle
I would have liked AJ to come back. He was a undefeated gym trainer that was all about harsh training and making his pokemon train under conditions that were a weakness to them. Even Gary during his smug days couldnt beat AJ.
Sabrina I never thought about, but hard agree on everyone else. It woulda been really cool to have these trainers included and either expand Masters 8 to a 16 trainer tournament, or they really shoulda been faced somewhere in the Ultra Class. I know they all had the option to not participate (Paul for example would definitely have been Ultra caliber, if not Master, but he didn't participate), but still.

Hey 👋 Professor I had this idea 💡 for a story about Mairin, when you planned to do the history video of Mairin I want to text what happened to Mairin from the anime when she runs in the forest 🌳 and a pack of Houndour attacked and chased her.
I pretty much agree with all the above, except I'm gonna add Casey from the Johto saga. I wish she'd been the trainer with Meganium that challenged Ash and Pikachu earlier in Journeys. Ash battling the Beedrill he caught for Casey would've been fun. Ash helping Brandon catch the two new Regis from Galar only to battle them later would've been cool. Perhaps a double battle with Pikachu and Dragonite teaming up? Tobias being Ash's last challenge before entering the Masters 8 would've been very fitting. I also miss Sakura from the Johto Saga (and Chronicles) she was a really interesting character in my opinion, appearing in no less than three episodes throughout Johto, and seeing her again would've been really cool. Perhaps she went on to win a league since then. Agatha deserves a special mention since Ash has battled her before, and she could've helped teach Gengar a few things. Overall, I love returning characters, but I REALLY wish we got to see some of Ash's reserves make an appearance and perhaps evolve after all these years. I'll forever be a fan of Kingler, but Snorlax, Heracross, and others deserve some love as well. That's partially what made the Battle Frontier saga so great, as well as the Sinnoh League (minus the battle with Tobias where Ash kinda scraped the barrel lol).
The Champions were good to put in the masters 8 with Ash but I think the last one shouldn't have been Alain especially with his quick takedown. Tobias would of been a better one to put in there or even a member of the elite four. Virgil too would of been a good one if he had a battle with Ash
I think that if Pokemon was willing to go all out, they could've added Giovanni as a wild card into the Masters Eight. We know he's a very strong trainer, and back in Unova he was able to defeat Ash with little effort. So seeing a full battle between Ash and Giovanni in the Masters Eight could've been one of the best battles in the entierty of Journeys in my opinion. Also, for video ideas, if you were planning to do more Elite Four teams, I would like to see videos possibly on other friends of Ash, like if Clemont or Brock were Elite Four members.
Truth he told that would be a bad idea unless the anime is willing to make Leon lose to him which is something they wouldn't do given how much hype he has. Ash can't battle him in the first round, and then there's Cynthia in the second.
Even though I don’t like Tyson I think it be a cool idea to have a Dynamax Meowth battle against Ash’s Dynamax Pikachu since they got their own unique forms.
It didn't even had to be Champion 8, Journey could of been the biggest fan service for each anime but it just didn't felt like much. Also rip Galar, they really done it dirty

It would've been cool to have the continuity-fest nature of Journeys begin from the very start: constantly bringing back characters of the day for WCS battles, and constantly having Ash use his reserves throughout the entire series.
I would have loved for Ritchie to show up and get to have a rematch using Pokemon Ash himself owns. Charizard vs Charizard, Pikachu vs. Pikachu, etc. Great video!

I thought of this and it sounded really cool. What if Ash had a mega stone for his Gengar and even though he can gigantimax him but if he could dynamax him he can mega evolve him and use a z move if he had a ghost or dark type z crystal. The idea is good.
The best reason I can give is it requires trainers to travel around and appear for battles no matter the location. Probably doesn't show on the anime since Ash just happened to be nearby them all so they could've all been entered and not fought enough.

In the lower ranks, having Ash rematch the league rivals he never got to defeat would have been nice closures. Especially with how returns are being handled in JN. (In Harrison's case; assuming Alain is still in, I think they'd opt for Char Y for Ash to differentiate. Still don't think Tobias would have made it in because of him having Legends.) Same with Sabrina, would have been a nice match for Gengar.
Most definitely, and all they would have needed was a brief flashback to remind viewers of the battle. It could be fun for New viewers as well as all of those characters had really cool aces
i agree Brandon and Virgil should have been here! Virgil proved to be powerful with his eeveelutions and Ash never battled each other. Brandon could have been so perfect given how he could have helped both Goh and Ash with this research on the regis! Still the biggest missed opportunity not to even mention him in Journeys not even when Paul returned.

I do kinda wish Pokémon Journeys established more trainers in the Coronation Series - other than just those fighting Ash. Would it have been a problem for Paul to show had was rank 14 or something, rather than giving a lame excuse for not competing? That said Journeys completely yadder yadder’d how the ranking system actually worked (Ash’s rank should have been fluctuating up-and-down as other trainers battled, especially during the normal and super rank) And how did Ash get to be the one battling Raihan for a place in the M8? Surely he wasn’t the only trainer to win 4 Ultra class battles? Perhaps it’s best they didn’t draw to much attention to it…
I have to agree with you in terms of Sabrina, Harrison, Virgil, and Kukui. It would give Eevee the opportunity to Gigantimax or become Sylveon, also Ash and Kukui’s Incineroar could duke it out once again. It would’ve been nice to see Paul in the masters eight to see how far he and Ash have come since the Sinnoh league.
I was hard rooting for Brandon to be a part of the Masters 8 before we learned who the final competitors were. I also thought it would have been fun to seen Benga from BW2 take Iris' spot, as we already saw her lose to Ash once - though maybe making her champion only to get outclassed by Benga almost immediately would have been too disrespectful
I would have loved to see Virgil, his Eevee probably would have been a Sylveon by now. Very much like Sakura when her eevee evolved into an Espeon. Predictable but satisfying. It would also be interesting to see Ash take on another Sylveon. This time maybe with his Dragonite.

we do know that sabrina was meant to be returned in the anime same with lt. surge. they did confirm that the 65 teaser was suppose to show the trainers ash was going to battle and 4 was easy to know beeing: volkner and bea that ash actually battled (plus it was kinda obvious it was them cause one was luxray). one unknown person that does look like alain but thats not the point. and lt surge and sabrina. and you said that lance keept his title. no that is wrong. the verry first thing they say is: the new champion of johto and kanto lance. plus yes the dub said it in earlier episode of journeys but that aint canon it was canon he won the world champion ship thing (the thing in bw 2 XD) . brandon would have made more sence for just a cameo in project mew during the regi hunt.
MY Thoughts: There are already reps for each Region BUT… …Sabrina, Drake, Sawyer, & Conference Winners can be PWC Challengers Only one I MIGHT agree with is Brandon🔺 If I were to suggest one person for Masters8, MAYBE Karen of Johto Elite4 to give more Rep for Johto😈
Having not yet got caught up on Journeys, I do think that it would have been nice to see at least more rivals return, even if it was to challenge Ash before the Top 8. Or at the very least, tell us where some of them are ranked! If Tobias isn't in the upper Ultra Class at minimum, then is he even competing? What about the others? I could see Brandon not competing, but I would have loved to see/hear about a shake-up to Kanto's Elite Four, adding in Sabrina as Lance's regular challenger, in the same way that Lance and Leon are regular challengers!
Misty should have been in masters since her goal is to be a water pokemon master. she was the first companion who had the goal of being a master along with ash. would be nice to have seen her pokemon level up and be hardcore and see her take on champions after training for so long as a gym leader and having traveled multiple regions. she was the first of ash's companions to battle a gym and enter a cup and even made it further than ash in the whirl cup. she would have been great in masters 8.

In round one, I tried to make some hype match ups. Imagine Ash's shock to find Giovanni being the last entry in the masters eight. A grudge match between Pikachu & Persian would also be nice to see. Iris would get to face Drake, since he's one of the first major obstacles Ash beat plus a Dragonite showdown would be awesome. Brendon & Cynthia is more just fan service since both are very well characters. While honestly, Lance & Diantha are more what's left but Lance could prove his mastery of the type by overcoming a mega fairy
In round two, well Cynthia v Iris was the best non-Ash battle in the masters eight so we just need to do that. Ash v Lance would be a nostalgia trip like none other and fans of the original series would be great.

Honestly, The World Coronation Series Masters Tournament should have been the Top 16 Trainers. Round 1 and 2, 3 on 3, Round 3 and 4, Full 6 on 6 Battles.

Ash could battle all the previous tournament winners. Ash, John Dickson, Tyson, Virgil, Sawyer, Drake, Kukui or Gladion and Tobias. They all represent a different a region. I really like This idea. I really want Brandon, the paldea champion and Paul to be in the masters 8 too though. Another masters 8 could be Ash, sawyer, Kukui, Tobias, Brandon, the paldea champion, Paul and Noland. Maby Alder, Ritchie, Gladion, Mustard and Wallace since they have been champions.

Absolutely agree with you Prof. It's already saddening enough that these Hyper_Awesome Characters are not even mentioned in Journeys and let alone participate in the World Tournament. I can imagine how incredible it would've been when all the characters who've lost/tied/beaten Ash, see him climbing up the ladder/rankings and get motivated to take back revenge on him. Similarly vice versa for Ash too. Writers of Journeys have failed us fans a lot & making Alan loosing to Leon in such a terrible way was the FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN!
Sabrina could've replaced Lance as Kanto's Champion instead of making him a double regional champ. Tobais could've beaten a strong champion like Iris or Diantha and swooped his way on to the Final 8. Kukui/Gladion/Paul/Brandon/Drake/Harrison/Sawyer could've shown why they are the some of the best brawlers out there. And most importantly ASH COULD'VE BROUGHT BACK HIS OLD MONS BACK! 😭 Im Heartbroken man. 💔

Sabrina: an actual battle that could've happened between her & Ash plus seeing if she's no longer scary
Drake: a nice throwback to the orange island league & chance to see a rematch
Harrison: a chance for Ash to have a rematch after losing in the Johto league
Brandon: a worthy competitor and chance to showcase some new Regi Pokémon
Virgil: an actual battle to unfold between Ash and Virgil's team of evolved eevees
Sawyer: a chance to see how far he has come since the Kalos league
Kukui: an opportunity for Ash to use his Incineroar and reunite with his mentor
Cynthia and her mega Garchomp would be a nice one to showcase in a future video

Maybe you should do an Part 2-ter video, as you said there are plenty of other trainers in the anime that could've also been included in the Masters 8. Sabrina I never thought about, but hard agree on everyone else. It woulda been really cool to have these trainers included and either expand Masters 8 to a 16 trainer tournament, or they really shoulda been faced somewhere in the Ultra Class. I know they all had the option to not participate (Paul for example would definitely have been Ultra caliber, if not Master, but he didn't participate), but still.

I pretty much agree with all the above, except I'm gonna add Casey from the Johto saga. I wish she'd been the trainer with Meganium that challenged Ash and Pikachu earlier in Journeys. Ash battling the Beedrill he caught for Casey would've been fun.
Ash helping Brandon catch the two new Regis from Galar only to battle them later would've been cool. Perhaps a double battle with Pikachu and Dragonite teaming up?
Tobias being Ash's last challenge before entering the Masters 8 would've been very fitting.
I also miss Sakura from the Johto Saga (and Chronicles) she was a really interesting character in my opinion, appearing in no less than three episodes throughout Johto, and seeing her again would've been really cool. Perhaps she went on to win a league since then.
Agatha deserves a special mention since Ash has battled her before, and she could've helped teach Gengar a few things.
Overall, I love returning characters, but I REALLY wish we got to see some of Ash's reserves make an appearance and perhaps evolve after all these years. I'll forever be a fan of Kingler, but Snorlax, Heracross, and others deserve some love as well. That's partially what made the Battle Frontier saga so great, as well as the Sinnoh League (minus the battle with Tobias where Ash kinda scraped the barrel lol).

The Champions were good to put in the masters 8 with Ash but I think the last one shouldn't have been Alain especially with his quick takedown. Tobias would of been a better one to put in there or even a member of the elite four. Virgil too would of been a good one if he had a battle with Ash

I think that if Pokemon was willing to go all out, they could've added Giovanni as a wild card into the Masters Eight. We know he's a very strong trainer, and back in Unova he was able to defeat Ash with little effort. So seeing a full battle between Ash and Giovanni in the Masters Eight could've been one of the best battles in the entierty of Journeys in my opinion. Also, for video ideas, if you were planning to do more Elite Four teams, I would like to see videos possibly on other friends of Ash, like if Clemont or Brock were Elite Four members.
Truth he told that would be a bad idea unless the anime is willing to make Leon lose to him which is something they wouldn't do given how much hype he has.
Ash can't battle him in the first round, and then there's Cynthia in the second.

It would've been cool to have the continuity-fest nature of Journeys begin from the very start: constantly bringing back characters of the day for WCS battles, and constantly having Ash use his reserves throughout the entire series.
I would have loved for Ritchie to show up and get to have a rematch using Pokemon Ash himself owns. Charizard vs Charizard, Pikachu vs. Pikachu, etc. Great video!

I thought of this and it sounded really cool. What if Ash had a mega stone for his Gengar and even though he can gigantimax him but if he could dynamax him he can mega evolve him and use a z move if he had a ghost or dark type z crystal. The idea is good.

The best reason I can give is it requires trainers to travel around and appear for battles no matter the location. Probably doesn't show on the anime since Ash just happened to be nearby them all so they could've all been entered and not fought enough.

In the lower ranks, having Ash rematch the league rivals he never got to defeat would have been nice closures. Especially with how returns are being handled in JN. (In Harrison's case; assuming Alain is still in, I think they'd opt for Char Y for Ash to differentiate. Still don't think Tobias would have made it in because of him having Legends.) Same with Sabrina, would have been a nice match for Gengar.
Most definitely, and all they would have needed was a brief flashback to remind viewers of the battle. It could be fun for New viewers as well as all of those characters had really cool aces

i agree Brandon and Virgil should have been here! Virgil proved to be powerful with his eeveelutions and Ash never battled each other. Brandon could have been so perfect given how he could have helped both Goh and Ash with this research on the regis! Still the biggest missed opportunity not to even mention him in Journeys not even when Paul returned.

I do kinda wish Pokémon Journeys established more trainers in the Coronation Series - other than just those fighting Ash. Would it have been a problem for Paul to show had was rank 14 or something, rather than giving a lame excuse for not competing?
That said Journeys completely yadder yadder’d how the ranking system actually worked (Ash’s rank should have been fluctuating up-and-down as other trainers battled, especially during the normal and super rank) And how did Ash get to be the one battling Raihan for a place in the M8? Surely he wasn’t the only trainer to win 4 Ultra class battles?
Perhaps it’s best they didn’t draw to much attention to it…

we do know that sabrina was meant to be returned in the anime same with lt. surge. they did confirm that the 65 teaser was suppose to show the trainers ash was going to battle and 4 was easy to know beeing: volkner and bea that ash actually battled (plus it was kinda obvious it was them cause one was luxray). one unknown person that does look like alain but thats not the point. and lt surge and sabrina. and you said that lance keept his title. no that is wrong. the verry first thing they say is: the new champion of johto and kanto lance. plus yes the dub said it in earlier episode of journeys but that aint canon it was canon he won the world champion ship thing (the thing in bw 2 XD) . brandon would have made more sence for just a cameo in project mew during the regi hunt.

Having not yet got caught up on Journeys, I do think that it would have been nice to see at least more rivals return, even if it was to challenge Ash before the Top 8. Or at the very least, tell us where some of them are ranked! If Tobias isn't in the upper Ultra Class at minimum, then is he even competing? What about the others? I could see Brandon not competing, but I would have loved to see/hear about a shake-up to Kanto's Elite Four, adding in Sabrina as Lance's regular challenger, in the same way that Lance and Leon are regular challengers!

Misty should have been in masters since her goal is to be a water pokemon master. she was the first companion who had the goal of being a master along with ash. would be nice to have seen her pokemon level up and be hardcore and see her take on champions after training for so long as a gym leader and having traveled multiple regions. she was the first of ash's companions to battle a gym and enter a cup and even made it further than ash in the whirl cup. she would have been great in masters 8.
