  • In this episode you can learn how to make your own Tailored Button Up Shirt from scratch.
    Pause at the pattern shape images and calculate your measurements.
    (s.a. = seam allowance)
    BACK PATTERN
    a = 15 cm
    b = the distance between your shoulders + s.a.
    c = (your under armpit girth) / 2 + 6 cm + s.a.
    d = (your breast girth) / 2 + 5 cm + s.a.
    e = (under the breast girth) / 2 + 5 cm + s.a.
    f = (your waist girth) / 2 + 7 cm + s.a.
    g = (your hip girth) / 2 + 7 cm + s.a.
    Vertical measurements depend on your height - you need to determine it by yourself. To make it easier for you; here are my vertical measurements (I am 173 cm tall - 5᾿8):
    my A = 20 cm
    my B = 8 cm
    my C = 5 cm
    my D = 10 cm
    my E = 27 cm
    FRONT PATTERN
    h = 8 cm if you want to make it without white strip - which is shown at the begging of step 4
    h = 5.5 cm if you want to make it like me, with a white strip (white strip should be 3cm + s.a. wide)
    my i = 3 cm
    If you have big breasts, make h measurement bigger, so that you will be able to take in more under the breasts (i measurement)
    COLLAR PATTERN
    l = neckline length after step 4 + s.a.
    K = 3 cm + s.a.
    J = 6 cm + s.a.
    For sleeve᾿s slit 1:
    o = 7 cm
    p = 12 cm
    For sleeve᾿s slit 2:
    r = 3.5 cm
    q = 10 cm
    SLEEVE PATTERN
    my L = 15 cm
    my M = 41 cm
    N = 9 cm
    For sleeve pattern is best if you trace out a sleeve of a shirt you already own and is made out of similar non stretchy fabric - otherwise it will be too tight especially around the elbows.
    CUFF PATTERN
    u = bottom part of a sleeve after step 9 + s.a.
    t = u + 2 cm
    s = u - 1.5 cm
    P = 2 cm
    R = 11 cm
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    I advise you to make all the measurements (except neckline, armholes and vertical measurements) bigger than you calculate it, so that you will be later on able to make more alterations if needed without making the shirt too tight. Neckline and armholes cut smaller in the begging and alter it after step 3.

    My mission with this channel is to encourage creativity and help people learn how to DIY different sewing projects, regardless of their financial situation. However creating video tutorials takes a lot of work and I would deeply appreciate your support on ko-fi, if you decide to do so.
    And as always; if you have any questions ask them in the comments.
    Hope you have a lovely day,

    Thank you for this! If you ever have the time could you show a skater dress with elasticated waist?

      Thank you for your question! I recently made one variant of skater dress with elasticated waist: ruclips.net/video/bpQnM9A-XM0/видео.html Though this one is for girls / toddlers, the principle is the same for grownups, except you have to alter the top pattern to fit your chest.
      Another variant of skater dress with elasticated waist is to make box shaped dress and then sew on elastic the same way except that you sew it in the middle of the dress instead of the top of the skirt. You can also make the tube for the elastic first (you sew strip of fabric on the wrong side of the dress where the waist is) and then just pull the elastic through the tube, without sewing it on the dress.
      I hope I᾿ve helped you; if you have any further questions, let me know :)
