- The G1 X Mk II(bit.ly/CanonG1X...) is Canon's answer to the Sony RX100 II(bit.ly/SonyRX10...) - a compact camera with great performance and decent-sized sensor - but is enough to keep ahead of the game?

JESUS CHRIST, HE SOUNDS SO MUCH LIKE JAMES MAY!
CLARKSON!!!!!
The start of the video had me laughing so hard!
each one i guess :D
a Kai Man Wong in all his splendour today ! #DigitalRev
hahaha, i like him as a reveiwer, hes mad!
Seeing videos from you guys on compact and mirrorless cameras are awesome
Which is better Canon G1X mark 2 or Canon G7X ????????
former
G1x Mark 1.
Can you review the Canon G7X?
Yay new drtv! First time RUclips app showed a notification for a youtube upload on my phone.
I couldn't even tell you had the camera in your pocket. As you as you stuck it in there it was like magic and totally *disappeared* hahaha
Wait, what?! $800?! I can get an entry level DSLR with a zoom lenses with that money. In my personal opinion, not worth the money and that poorly designed wifi button location killed the camera for me.
or the NEX-6 which destroys this camera
LinuxUser4Life a6000 which destroys this and the nex 6
Or an OMD Em5!!!
crazycurtis28 Or a Sony A58 with all the necessary supplies
o.O WTF have I started?!......
Kai.. What baffles me the most is how you can shoot a picture while you are walking and still get perfect shot, do you keep the camera at a higher shutter speed?
I love watching you! Thank you for these videos!
I have the Mk1 and am considering buying the Mk2 later on down the track. Glad the macro is only 5cm now, very useful.
hi, thanks for your reviews! which equipment did you use for shooting this video?
How long does Canon expect that tiltscreen construction to last? A month, maybe two when you are careful? It looks so delicate.
I loved the old mk1 version of this when it first came out.
Mark 1 is most superior G1x.
@@kishascapeow so, im a noob lookin at a g1x ii for 200 $ at my local classifieds, seems a better deal then a powershot g15 for 100$
Heyy....I know my question is out of this subject however, I am also have a thing for watches, what kind of watch were you wearing in this video? I'd appreciate it. Nice video by the way.
He's wearing a Panerai. Not sure what particular model though :)
hahaha i didnt recognize you from the old G1X video 4 years ago. haha u gotten reaaly handsome with that new hair haha
Nicely done guys. I came to similar conclusions about this camera as well. A photo geek's camera that doesn't win any beauty contests but takes beautiful pictures.
Seems like a fun camera to carry around on your backpack on a daily basis.
my local photopusher has ordered one for himself since he had the first model of this series!
he uses a D800 for his Work but has the mk I version of this and was very pleased with it so he ordered this model!
£800 in the UK - what the hell, that's ridiculous !!!! Great review.
I'm so confused. What does that camera have to do with Nespresso?
I picked up a used EOS M with EF 22mm STM and I ended up loving it more than my 70D.
Was the review filmed WITH with G1X II?
I wanted this camera, but now I have second thoughts. Could you suggest a camera that shoots 4k that's good. Secondly, what microphones do you prefer?
Panasonic LF100
Đorđe Gajanin U mean LX100, and yes that's a nice option. The new NX1 will shoot 4k too but is a bit more cash, and the FZ1000 is also an option for 4k.
if you want this camera, you should buy it. ive used it and its a fantastic camera but it doesnt shoot 4k, but the video is still good
Abe Lincoln Yes I meant LX100* sorry , that because he said something better than the G1 X and shoots 4k well its a ''compact'' camera but I think he'd be better off buying a gh4 right away if he saves up.
Nice review! I'm still waiting on the A6000 review tho.
Do you have a review of the G1 X Mark III
I will say this does have the most amazing lens design I've ever seen on a compact camera, Canon really got carried away (six independently moving groups, crazy) and I guess that's reflected in the price. The mk I lens with 2/3 the groups was widely reported as being very good so it'll be interesting to see how much better this is. I'm sticking with my RX100 though.
Yeah even after the Mark 3 the Mark 1 version is still the best G1x. I love it.
I like you way of shares the idea of using cameras. Good job.
Pissed myself at Nespresso!
Uploaded on my birthday!! :D
(just saying)
Not here for the camera, I am here for Kai and Lok, u guys r awesome
Kai I love your commentary.
Please review the Canon G7X!
Really good review, guys. Humour, the good, the bad and the ugly. Sounds as if this camera has made gains in the right areas but just doesn't cut it against what's out there--esp on the mirrorless front. Surprising ISO performance!
Same ISO performance as the original.
I'm visiting HK right now and I thought I might run into you guys, but apparently I moved into the Hostel at Causeway Bay two days to late :-D great video
Thanks for the review! I'll stick with my Sony RX100 pocket camera for now.
Never thought I would see the day where Sony digital cameras outshines Canon's.
Will you guys review the G3X soon?
You rather do review on g1x mk 2 instead of rx10?!
Canon GX1 mark II sounds like an interesting camera, it's a shame about it's video quality and the price is a bit steep.
a6000 review plz, thks :)
which camera did you record this video with ? please answer asap
they are usually filming with the Canon 5DMk3
thank you
I am not into photography anymore but I will still watch these videos just for the humor lol
Which set of lens I should buy 18-55+55-250 or 18-135
Choose the RX100 II or wait for the rumoured RX100 III with a pop-up built-in viewfinder and a 28-100mm f/1.8-2.8 lens.
How would this camera compare to the G7x mark 2?
Better is de G7X, have the two. G1X have problema with cable flex on screen and lens, and it'is very heavy, uncomfortable.
Can you do a episode on filming please?
looks like GM1 with the kit lens might be a better option
Indeed!
I compared this to the sony rx100ii as mentioned in the description - chose the sony, and it blows the canon completely out of the picture.
I have an RX100 but I'm not sure it or the RX100 II "blows the Canon out of the water", as the Canon has a sensor 2.25x the size, and that's a lot. The Canon lens is also nicely wider at the short end (24mm vs. 28mm) and longer+faster at the long end, especially if you allow for the sensor size difference.
John Leslie
You try to reason with a fanboy. That's doomed to fail.
I thought so too at first (I have both right now), but the more I shoot with it, the more I realize the Canon is the better of the two.
***** Colours you can change as the RX100s shoot Raw and the noise seems pretty good to me on my RX100. The main gripe to have about Sony is they lossy compress the Raw files which can be an issue on some scenes. The Sony video modes are much better than the Canon though.
Is the Sony Alpha A6000 the best compact camera that has a viewfinder????
Can you guys review the sony a6000 I was wondering what you guys thought of it?
Great job as always guys. Review the new Leica T. Kai will love it :)
did you scan the analogue pics to get them in the video?
Good looking shots.
I liked the camera up until when he zoomed in, and looked like I'm watching the Pixel movie😂
May i ask what camera and lens he is using to shoot this video? Thanks!
Anisah Ishak Canon 24-105 f/4 L IS USM
thanks! :)
Could you guys please do a review on the fujfilm x-e2? I've been looking into it, and I'm not sure if its actually good. Thanks!
please make a review about the samyang 14mm f/2.8 lens for filming.
Awesome vid amd I want that camera soooo bad...
May we request for you to review the Sony RX10. Thanks! More Power!
Still searching for slow piano music to match a Leica T review?
The world needs to see Kai and Lok wearing those shoulder holster cases, and opinions on the Audi Design T-Flap.
Wifi and Nespresso in one pocketable camera... just what I need!! Great!!
canon G1 X mark II is better the canon eos m or not?
Interesting question, I suspect the next EOS-M might be the small-ish Canon to get if you want Canon and small. Else RX100 II, GM1, GX7, etc.
Review the A77 Mk 2 and the RX100 mk 3 please!!!!
When you say "heavier than an A7", do you mean body only or with a lens?? Not a very useful comparison! Good review though.
Any reviews regarding the g1x mark3?
That's pretty cool, but not worth $800 more like $150 to $200 it should be.
I don't know, the lens on the original version was very high performing, probably worth a good chunk of $800 without the camera. This lens seems a big improvement and has the most amazing spec I can remember seeing for a fixed lens, with six independently moving groups. Canon really went for it on the design.
Plus Canon's suggested retail prices are highly fictional a short time after launches anyway...
I'll keep my RX100, but it is a hell of a lens...
Would love to see a Sony a6000 review.
If you're considering this camera, you really should check out the Pentax MX-1 instead. A third of the price and more features with image quality/optics at least as good as the Canon.
I'm not sure they are competing, the Canon's sensor is 6.3x the size of the Pentax's, I think the Pentax is more a G16 competitor.
Bullshit. The MX-1 can't touch this camera.
Well, if you want to spend 800usd on a Canon that even Kai rags on, go ahead. I just think that if someone wants a point and shoot with full manual controls, they really should look at the MX1, especially for 250usd (although the RX100 is still the best IMO). The MX1 has a faster lens throughout the zoom range (1.8-2.5), and has 1cm macro capability. It is unfortunately overlooked in this market.
speedstrn You have to factor the sensor size into the lens speed, as smaller sensors capture less total light (at similar f-stops) and so have more noise. To compare the Pentax with this Canon you have to add about 1.5 f-stops to the 1.8-2.5 (for the sensor size difference, i.e. you could crank the Canon's ISO up 1.5 stops and still have less noise than the Pentax). Hope that makes sense, lots of loud music and wine this evening.

John Leslie Cheers! I wasn't actually responding to you, because I thought you made a good point about sensor size i.e. image quality. I was responding more to the other comment about how the MX1 can't touch the Canon. (I'm just now figuring out how to reply directly on G+. :)) Though I was under the impression that aperture measures still gathered equivalent light regardless of sensor, and that changing sensor sizes only affected depth of field. I've seen that argued in several places, and I don't want to get into that argument because I'm no mathematician - I usually go by whether I like the 'look' of the images produced. :) Us Pentax users (and Fuji, Olympus, Panny etc) have got to tout our brands whenever we get a chance because Ricoh and others don't have the marketing budget that Canon or Nikon have. :)
Kai.....can you include the performance of the "Auto" mode in your review? because we might using the M mode, but some of us, didn't....especially the girls that own dslr...straightly referring to my girl actually...she keep using the Auto mode...I own d7000 n she own d5200, and both produce no so good pictures in Auto mode (especially at night).....maybe camera company should consider of enhancing the Auto mode of their camera....
Thanks for the videos
The colors look a bit more vibrant than previous Canons. To me, at least. Seems like a decent enough camera. And the price is still $400 less than the X100s, the standard bearer of compacts.
and the x100s is 3x more capable than that piece of shit.
villegas24 Not if you want to go wider or longer it isn't... Fixed lens cameras are a smaller niche than high-end compacts.
@@villegas24 No it isn't. Mentally defective loser.
I'll keep my Sony RX100 MK2
Hmm. If the sensor is the same size as used by the m43 system, I wonder if someone out there is actually planning to use it in an actual m43 camera?
Why can't the zoom ring be on the lens, it looks a bit awkward where it is and also funny place to have a play button. At £800, it ain't worth it. Could you review the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4?
mark III out soon ?
photographer cheap camera series again please!!
More compact and mirrorless cameras reviews! :)
Not a bad camera actually but way too expensive.
Wait a year or so for the price to come down if you really want it
Canon will soon realize they have priced it too high
It is likely Nikon, Panasonic and Fuji will be coming out soon with their version of their compacts to compete with Sony and Canon
What about the Pentax K3 Hand-On Review?? ;-)
COME ONE GUYS!!!
DPR virus is spreading!
Personally I don't think DR is being fair to the Canon G1X Mk2. I use Nikon FX DSLRs for my work but I still prefer the new G1X Mk2 to carry around with me as a compact alternative to DSLR.
That shirt is amazing! Anyone know where to find it?
Possible to have head to head with RX100III and G1X MkII? Pleaseeeeeeee
where did you get your shirt?
and nice green pants
Does it take video
What happen to Alamby?
Getting rid of optical viewfinders sucks . . . here in the desert with zero shade those LCD screens are damn near impossible to see outdoors.
It has an optional EVF
Nice and funny review! If you stop wearing those tight pants, then the camera is easily inseted in the pockets! Wear a cargo pant! LOL
I have a Nikon Coolpix S9500 and its a true compact but with a huge zoom which still astounds me as to where they've his the zoom in such a slim body
The sensor is so tiny and the lens let's through no light at all.
Not a major feat since almost every brand has a small travelzoom. And they are pretty much all as crap as a phone in terms of image quality.
1barnet1 I wouldn't say it was 'crap', its by no means as good as my DSLR quality wise but its 100x better than any camera phone. All compact cameras have a use as long as you are aware of their limitations, the main plus being they are easily carried in the pocket (accepting the camera above of course) for parties, holidays etc when you don't want to be lugging around a DSLR, lenses, filters and a tripod.
Some camera phones seem to hold up against an premium compact like the s120 which will smoke your travel zoom. They may be versatile but image quality is simply rubbish. An limited zoom compact like the rx100 is capable of great results while fitting in your pocket
1barnet1 and both the cameras you've mentioned are twice the price of my compact, frankly I'd rather spend that kind of money on new 'glass' for my DSLR
The fujifilm xf 1 is also half the price. And is just as good as the s120.
Great review
Excellent review, took many good pictures. Shame about the video and need of larger pocket.
Kai cant put a stick of gum in the pockets of the skinny "trousers" he wears.
Flop. Again. They need to focus on the m series.
Do a review on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000.
+1 for the, "Oh, it's cold"
Love this guy's humour
Learned nothing about the specs.
nobody watches this channel for the specs... that would be like watching topgear for actually learning something about cars. xD...
Also he talks like James May, might've been his kid with an Asian woman.
Thats my old road ... I miss CWB!
can you do review on a6000 ?
Yes please!
Amazing photos
