- This is a video to show you how to install a custom headliner. This was the first headliner I've ever done so it may not be perfect. This was a very cheap and fairly simple project. If you have any questions, comment below.

You should remove the fabric from the existing headliner, and remove the spray foam shit so the glue can really stick. The method shown in the video will last half as long.
Thanks man! I really appreciate it,considering this was the first one I had ever done. I'm working on the headliner in my truck right now.
Great sound track!!! crazy headliner!
Also that looks dope.. I'm inspired!
1 word, AWESOME!!!
Nice job. trying to do a little work on my old caddy. spray painted the exterior and need to get the falling headliner down. thanks. no serious fund for restoration but I'll keep the old gal looking fun as long as I can. :-) 1990 Brougham.
Damn that looks good! A little busy for me but damn good none the less!
That's dope
Turned out brilliant , nice job man
Thanks man I appreciate it
Love the music!
Sad!!!
Nice work. What kind of fabric would be best for the headliner board and where did you find this style of fabric?
One more thing, if material is thin be sure to use light coats of glue, so it will hopefully not bleed through, let it get tacky, and one other good thing about permatex, it will not over dry quickly, you can come back for over an hour or more and still adhere to itself, really good stuff, permatex headliner spray glue, would not recommend 3M !!!
first mistake never use spray can adhesive to do a headliner.they all heat release over time.
Thanks for the tip
+Antmedina Medina I was about to research for this, what other fix can i have for my car? I did it, and it's getting off.. because of the heat :(
What can i do?
then what do you use?
+SS4LiFe1488 the only way I've ever seen it done is using spray adhesive. Idk what else you would use
In car Audio Fabrication, I have always used DAP Weldwood contacts adhesive, and it is spray grade so you can use a spray gun with a compressor but you can also paint it on. atleast thats how i was trained when i got certified. im sure there are lots of other glues out the though. Also with these things you need to allow "tack" time.
Permatex headliner spray glue in the orange can works really well, and will not heat release, be careful, once you stick it, depending on the surface it will not pull back off, make sure you get it right the first time !!!
Lardie Butt I'll look into that if I ever do one again. That was the biggest issue with the adhesive I used, the heat release.
Gotta love Ravi Zacharias!
jimbobgeorgejohn perfect!
if you plan on doing this, i recommend using a stronger adhesive. the one i used was a general purpose adhesive and it didnt stick very well after a few days.
It did not stick because you have to apply the adhesive to the back of the fabric also.
good job. i would personally work in small sections starting at the corner. slowly applying adhesive and pressing the fabric down. thumbs up!
Branden Esquivel thanks for the tip!
did you apply the foam to the headliner first and then apply the material ontop the foam backing?
Very nice job
how did it hold up and can I use the adhesive over pesky foam ?
What type of fabric is this? Material name
Did you strip down the existing fabric and clean it or apply over it?
Thank you for the video
god bless gr8 idea
I really want to do this, just for fun and for the experience.
What type of fabric would be best to do this. I'm trying to do this myself I just don't know what type of fabric I should go buy. Please help
im doing this shit tomorrow 😆
Ravi is the man
Loving the Ravi Zacharias sermon jam!
What a crazy azz song!!
Its like a polyester kinda material. Im not sure exactly what it is. Its not very thick, its almost like a pillow case kinda material. Its not as smooth though. I got it from Joann fabric store.
nice. what if i wanted a heavier/ thiker material like leather or something. would it still stick to it or do i have to get something better? any tips? thanks.
Not quite sure about leather, at that point you would probably need to do some sewing. I recommend using the strongest adhesive you can find for any type of material you use. I've only found one kind that will actually hold
BoostItUp31 What kind was it?
+Kimberly Johnson 3M HI-STRENGTH MODEL 90 seems to be the best from what research I've done
+Kimberly Johnson the best that I've used is made by stinger. Just google stinger spray adhesive and you should be able to find it. It's in a black bottle. It's a contact adhesive so you spray both surfaces for it to stick. Also it gives you a little bit of time before it actually sticks so if you have to pull the fabric up to make adjustments it allows you to do so. I'm sure there are other good adhesives out there as well but that was the one I've had the most success with
can you use any kind of fabric???
Oh you're good :-)
how'd u do the visors?
Interesting video! Did it hold up well over time?
MrMarty77 not really. I definitely recommend a stronger adhesive
Did anybody think about using adhesive remover? It would make your job quicker and easier.
Not a bad job. Gave me some good tips. But i will remove the old liner and scrape the old shit off for better adhesion. But your concept is good . Love the checker pattern . Thanx.
Joe Pedroza thanks man. Glad it helped. And yea the only reason I didn't take off the old liner is because it was still like new. I just wanted a different looked. In my other headliner video on my channel I did end up removing the old liner because it was sagging
+BoostItUp31 Completely understand. To be honest i would have probably done it like you did the first time. Life is all about learning and doing things better. Its only bad when you dont even try. No one came into this world with all kinds of knowledge. You have to make mistakes in order to improve. And im sure you have already figured out how to improve on your projects. Thanks again for the video.
1st tip. ALWAYS REMOVE THE OLD HEADLINER AND ANY OLD GLUE RESIDUE. START ON A CLEAN SLATE, CLEAR OF ANY DEBRIS.
BRICK CITY thanks for the advice. It was the first headliner I had ever done. I was young and dumb lol
You have to apply the adhesive to the back of the fabric also......
Did you make that beat with ravi zacharias?
and some vehicles you have to take the wind shield out or a seat depends on what u have but this isn't a easy job unless you have time and patience
Seth Goodwin never said it was an easy job. Getting the headliner in and out is the hardest part
Yep, I own a crown vic and almost finished with replacing tan interior with black (parts car). When removing the headliner (black) from parts car, the windshield had to be out. Well the glass was already shattered so we just folded the glass down.
I need a new windshield in new vic so thinking about getting glass shop to remove old windshield and before new glass goes in, slip the tan one out and put the black in it. PITA but I haven't run across a video that allows for dye on headliner while it's in position.. only ones in which you have to remove it first. If anyone knows of a vid, shoot a link up.
What type of fabric did you use?
what type of material is that
Unoh.❤️
Wich fabric did you use?
can you possibly paint the headliner with dye
You can, but it stinks for a while after you do it. And after about a year or two it starts to fade and rub off from what I've seen. I bought a car that someone did that to and it looked horrible
How much fabric is needed for the 350z headliner?
ExtraKlutch no idea. I don't own a 350z. You would have to measure the headliner
nice
Pretty much, but remember that the heavier the fabric is, the harder its gonna be to keep the fabric held up.
How do you remove the whole thing tho?
so basically i buy my glue from a upholstery supply store.i belive its called DAP..will check but it yellow and you can brush on or soray from a paint gun.also i strip off old material and clean board to get a good smooth surface and to ensure it dosent release and sag.
Yea that would probably be your best choice. 3M also makes a spray adhesive especially for headliners. And yea make sure you take the old material off. The only reason I didn't was because mine wasn't sagging
I want a blood red crushed velvet liner
What kind of fabric?
How about using a themed duvet cover?
You could do that
what kind of material
Hey can I use Polyester fabric?
Jennifer Drake yes
I did this work, used a common spray and its falling off on sunny days, it's annoying since i guess i'm going to do it again. What can i do? Stingers Spray recommended doesn't sell here...
You could try using a generic contact adhesive. What you do with that is spray both surfaces, the headliner and the new fabric, if you only spray one the adhesive won't stick. If it does it because of the heat then I would say try to find the strongest adhesive you can and see if you can find one that's good for high heat. If I find one I can let you know
Yes please, my car is black and it's difficult to avoid it getting hot thus making the headliner comes down. It stays hot enough so when i push it back up it sticks again. Annoying to do, though.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Q2PR9E Maybe these..? Hot Resistant Spray Adhesive, so it says..
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002JMPRK also this, 3M
And this 3m says specifically "Headliner" www.amazon.com/3M-38808-Headliner-Fabric-Adhesive/dp/B004MEBENM/
How would i pull the headliner out of a 98 marquis
Tramaine Johnson it should be pretty similar to this video. Just remove anything that holds the headliner in place. Once you have it loose, the hardest part is getting it out of the vehicle
if your old one starts to sag then ur new one will to.thats why its best to remove it.but if it works for you all good man not here to bash on anyone.
Yea I know, this was my first experience with doing one. So it was a learning experience. But I don't have the car anymore so it's the next guys issue lol
Where did you get fabric
James Welch Joann fabric
@@BoostItUp31 thank you
Dang im kind of surprised to see someone ironing it.. slick.. surprised it fell when u pulled the iron out.. hmm..
How long did this last before it fell? Not trying to be funny. I read other posts..
It lasted about a month. But had I used a better adhesive it would've lasted longer. I just used some adhesive that I had laying around. The best adhesive I've used so far is stinger spray adhesive. You can find it online. It's a contact adhesive so you spray both surfaces and you have a little bit of time to pull it back up to make adjustments to the fabric of needed
looks like a mk1 focus liner to me
That's correct lol
well done..&the music was cool !!.God is Great.&(EVERY)KNEE WILL BOW....that means all.!!All means all..and that's all means.
Ravi Zachariah's!
what song is this?!
"Where Is Your God Now?" by DJ Void
TTG Vox Everywhere, for He Is!
TTG Vox thanks by the way i just refound this video and song and im re downloading the song on this phone haha
Robbie zachariah...
U didn't show the visors
The King I wasn't happy with how they turned out so I didn't show that part. This was the first headliner I had ever done so I wasn't very happy with it
this looks like crap there's so many bubbles in the fabric even after the iron and why did he use a iron if I get a bubble I poke it with a needle and use a heat gun
or since this is diy u could use a hair dryer
Seth Goodwin you would use that method if it was vinyl or leather. Since this is a breathable material a heat gun isn't going to do anything. A heat gun is used on vinyl to allow the material to stretch and lay flat. You don't use the same method when working with cotton
Give me the WORD till Jesus comes!
This video has nothing to do with religion. Please preach on another video. No offense
No offence taken, not speaking about religion, and not preaching, and I find Jesus here, comments are welcomed.

UTI is better than UNOH
That explains why uti hired undercover students to come to UNOH to learn what our instructors were teaching. None of my business though. I'm sure uti is a great school but I went to UNOH and I couldn't be happier. Unless you went to school there, don't knock it.
look to be honest UTI sucks... is expensive as hell and short classes(time), and mostly theory and not hands on...I went UNOH for tour and i was going UNOH but it was to far (8 hrs.)
+It Wasnt Me It Was You yea for the money UNOH in my opinion is the best automotive school you can go to. It was only 2 hours away for me and it was very cheap. My 2 and half year program was cheaper than one year at the school my girlfriend goes to. And the instructors were great. Very hands on
annoying music,
arshi khur there's a mute button.
This is wrong !!!!!! WRONG WRONG !!!!!! He's Just Gluing Over the Old Fabric It will just fall again or even more, and when it does your doing everything twice, do it right the first time.
Well considering I took the old fabric off on the second headliner I did, it made no difference. It fell just as much as this one did. Thanks for your input but you don't need to be such a dick about it.
lol
you did this completely wrong you need to remove the oem fabric 99.9% of oem headliner fabric glue only lasts 5 years on average so your "custom" headliner will fail sooner then it should
Well the car is 14 years old and the oem headliner was still holding. So it definitely held for more than 5 years. I know I should've taken the old fabric off, this was my first attempt at doing this. Thanks for the tip
