In ranger rover sport 2009 I can ?
Hope you enjoy this project! Thumbs UP if you do and thanks for watching!
Can I Have Ur 007 Laser??
LegoMrAndy hmm I can't imagine why maybe get your own car to tear up
I think this will look better with color changing light s
kipkay Whatever you do, DO NOT install flashing LED's! Could make you crash. A BIG distraction.
+ClayRanger143 (Clayranger143) who?! in the right mind would think to do that??? lmao
That was awesome! Great video, Kip.
PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ON hoW TO ELIMINATE FLIES
Looks like a fun project Kip! Great work!!
What would you rate this project? FIVE ALL DAY SON!!!
David Vasquez Hey listen man..

Hahaha.
here take a nibble
Older cars are even easier. No need to take apart the cluster, just unscrew the bulbs from the back and swap them with whatever you want. New bulbs, or LEDs
Wow, compared to most modern vehicles, the dash of your Jeep is incredibly easy to dismantle. When you first started, I was expecting most of the video to consist of you doing all sorts of contortions while lying on the floor of the vehicle and saying things like "Just gotta remove this screw, and this one, and _this_ one is pretty hard to reach... _now_ what's holding it in? Hmm, better open the hood...."
At least that is the way it always seems to go for me when I try to get into a dashboard, only I usually say a lot more bad words. :)
*****
Yeah, right, I forgot that all American cars are this easy to take apart. :P
CorneliusSneedley"Just gotta..."
LOL!! You win the internet, sir.
Great video! :D
Kipkay what can I say to you, one of my favorite youtubers. Your videos bewildered me with your fascinating electronic skills. I always wanted to go to college and learn how to invent the things you do and be able to do fun cool things when I was older. RUclips is dying now and your views are dwindling out. There used to be so many comments you could have never picked mine out but now I might be more noticeable through the crowds. I'll always remember you and your channel and how it was apart of my childhood growing up. I thank you for it. Farewell Kipkay. I hope the absolute best for you
While I was in there I removed that pesky check engine light and seatbelt light 🤷♂️
No ck engine light 🤣I guess what you don’t know can’t hurt you👍
All you really need is a permanent marker!
I colored the LEDs for my phone's keypad blue and it looks awesome!
Kipkay, I freaking look up to you. I don't know anyone else with that kind of patience!
Yeah man!
Just got a 2004 Chevy Impala for work and it needs some serious (not too expensive) appearance mods. This is definitely on my list!
And because I already know how and have done soldering projects, this should be fairly simple!
I've been researching how to do this, then I remembered this video you made last year!
Great tutorial
Well done, blue is OK :)
Instructions weren't clear enough, I ran my friend over with car :P
Instructions weren't clear enough, got my dick stuck in the steering wheel mechanism.
LOL
I'm assuming your car didn't like your friend to begin with
My dad and I did something like that on my jeep. we found a kit for it on Amazon and now my dash is green!!! Its pretty awesome.
Keep up the good work on your videos you're doing an awesome job!!!
THIS is the reason I subscribed to KipKay years ago. Good work man!
color changing back-lights would be cool
Remove the cluster. Move the Gas needle. INFINITE GASOLINE!
FearIanNow that's hilarious
FearIanNow want a scholarship to Harvard?
its over 9000!!!!!
This really works - but I still top up (now and then) to fool people out of cash 👍
You can also do all of the rest of your interior lights in LED's.
Forks also work well for popping the needles off.
Awesome video! This reminds me when I had to replace one burnt dash lightbulb a couple of years back. The car didn’t have LEDs in the dash console, but I used a green permanent marker to coat the lightbulbs. I know, it pays off :)
Great video. i was worried for a while you were running out of ideas
Why? I have a new video every week!
^
You can just color the white in with highlighters and its 8x easier guys
No...it's 10 times easier!!! 😂
it worked omg thank you
so glad my Miata has twist sockets at the back of the cluster so I don't have to mess with soldering... nice result, but I don't wanna go into my cluster unless I absolutely have to..
These tutorials are great. I always learn a thing or two :)
Blue is the worst for night time since your eyes don't adjust as much, reds a better option imp
Smartest comment so far. Orange or red is the ticket. Bright blue LEDs is a great way to ruin your night vision and create maximum glare.
That's cool and all but I'd rather my car be dripped out rather then being able to see🤷🏼♂️
This a super cool project! You make it look so easy :)
Our Ford's have the option built in where I can change the inner ring, outer ring and surrounding dash all different colors. Each one can be set for different colors at the same time. Floor lights/cup holder lights can do the same too.
Wow super awesome! I did this back in the early 2000's and that was much harder then now days.
Looks good, but I'm just too afraid to try it out. I feel like I'm going to screw up.
Are there RGB led's out there for this? I feel like I might get bored of blue ones eventually as well, lol.
Nice, I must try this on my auto :)
finaly, that felt like a kipkay video
Cool hack! I imagine while in there you could do a lot more, but you're supposed to be watching the road anyway... oh well.
Hmm, could have just put blue tinted plastic to make them blue if you wanted cheap/easy :D
Did this to my 1995 ford f350 . Looked cool . I was the only one with multicolor dashboard back then
I recently changed the lights to LEDs in my 89 Cherokee. I changed them to red because it matched my stereo head unit and red light doesn't kill your night vision. My dash was a LOT easier to change out since it's older and used removable bulbs to change
This is awesome, but way to advanced for me, I would screw it up :(
Same
nope you will not if you know a little about electronic
No chance I would attempt this, ever.
ruclips.net/video/FBN2o13uUg4/видео.html
I could do it, but fortunately for me, mine are bulbs to be changed with plug in LEDs.
My car was made before LED's were invented lmfao
Daily driving a car from before the sixties?
Dude , where did u find that old car ? Lol
Your latest run of videos has been much better. Cool hacks
This looks so cool, wish I had the nerve to try it. Great job✨👍✨
Just roll your mile counter back a few thousend while your at it ;)
no it's not.. Not atleast in my country
+John Murgatroyd His is digital, can't exactly roll it back.
+kipkay You can access the digital odometer just by opening up the casing. There should be a button that adjusts it. ;) PS:Im just joking so don't try it because I'm only 12. Lol
+John Murgatroyd You do realize that it's illegal to tamper with the odometer, and if he were to access the computer for his digital odo, that it would have a 50/50 possibility of not starting since there is high likelihood that the computers inside would see that something isn't right with the reading.
+ArcFlash It's possible, but would likely end up with a bricked car if the computers run security checks.
Anyone who screws this up will be very, very, very sorry to find out how much a new gauge cluster costs.
buy used one they are cheap. Pro tip: look for gauge with less distance than your old have
*****
The Office of Odometer Fraud Investigations would like a word with you.
How about, don't screw it up? If you damage your circut-board doing this you have either never soldered or you have some kind of palsy.
Any newer car you need to buy a used cluster with less miles. The gauge cluster will get the correct mileage info from the car and be set to your correct mileage...
The mileage isn’t just stored in the gauge cluster anymore. That would be too easy for criminals to roll back mileage. These days with all the computerized systems, it’s much harder. But it can still be tampered with. So still be cautious of mileage seeming to be too good to be true, even on the newest cars.
Some newer cars, i.e. 2005 and newer, have the mileage stored in up to 4-5 different ECUs. But you can still get a used gauge cluster for around $60-$100 depending on the year, make, and model...
Wow you are a genius!!!!
Brighter ones are always better. More visibility equals a safer ride.
I'll toss around the idea and see if this can get done with one of the cars here.
Yet again you amaze me kipkay...yet again.
Definitely want to do this but ik I'm gonna fuck up my new car and I don't wanna take the chances. Are there people I can hire to do this professionally?
no there isnt... you must live with the boring dashboard you have....
Darren Davenport wouldn't the places that install alarms and stereos do it?
savage!
Kip, what about RGB Led's?! Just imagine that!
wooowww this looks so much more compicated than with my dash, i did mine a few years back on my mitsubishi lancer, mine was take out two screws take the shroud out, take out the 4 surrounding screws, pull the dashboard out, anticlockwise to pull the old lights out, install the t10/t5 led's screw back in and done. so glad mine wasn't this crazy haha.
Awesome I always wanted to change my dash bored lights thanks kip
Jeeps are too expensive! Can I buy one from Kipkay.com?
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO
U should have done multi colored lights
That would be distracting while driving
Hey Kip, great instructs, but I feel that you should point out that this works best on nee cars with motorized gauges, like yours. Older cars have sporting-operated gauges, and it isn't simply a matter of marking the end of the needle on some paper. If you pull the needle from an older speedometer, it *will* go out of calibration, and will require a costly trip to a licensed speedometer rebuilder to recalibrate. Not to mention most older clusters don't utilize SMD LEDs for illumination, and some people won't be able to tell the difference until it's too late.
Man your the only person who could do this with all the right equipment
how to identify a non-petrolhead - when your fun starts when you leave the car and go into the workshop, not the other way arround
Remove that pesky light because who needs seatbelts...
logic...
Super cool! I wish I could do this. I feel like I would mess up my whole car if I tried to do it myself lol
awesome hack! It would be nice to do this to my truck but im pretty sure it's a lot easier because they are regular bulbs. just need to find some converted LEDs that fit
Dude made soldering look like child's play lol
UPLOADED ON MY BIRTHDAY! :D
I remember my old VW polo used to have a dash just like that, there was even a wheel to adjust brightness for changing conditions
This one was actually pretty cool!!
Welding LEDs onto an electronic circuit board is hardly what I call a HACK. Looks nice tho.
If you welded LEDs on a circuit board, you wouldn't have a circuit board or leds anymore
REKT
installing a train horn on f150
RGBW it
Hey, just draw sharpie over it. That's what I did on my computer.
One of the coolest hacks yet.
This guy is pretty awesome with cool ideas!
You literally just replace the LEDs, and that was it.
How do I get rid of the "seatbelt off" ringer?
Bryan Young
The law is that if it's dangerous, then it's illegal. For instance if you're driving 35 MPH on a 65 MPH freeway it's illegal because you could cause a collision.
Like I said, I have no trouble believing that it does exist as a law, but around where I live, you'd be hard pressed to find someone NOT breaking the limit by at least ten miles an hour. So, whether it is true or not is incredibly irrelevant to my life.
There should be two wires (they may be bundled as one thick cable) that come from the computer up into your seatbelt receptacle at the very bottom (near the carpet). Simply cut the wires and then, depending on your car, either tape the wires off separately to prevent a closed circuit/short OR use a butt connecter to close the circuit, thus sending a "seatbelt engaged" message to the computer. 15 minutes tops and super easy if you know how to use a wire cutter, stripper, and crimper.
Just go to junk yard find same model year of vehicle you have and cut the buckle off and put it in your vehicle...
Set the sound alert volume to 0. 😆
That Jeep would rust out before I got finished doing this. Like Your videos!
If you don't feel like messing with leds you can also get colored post it notes it would have the same effect
too much work for lazy people like me
Great, I have just sold my car..
lol nice
wow this is pretty cool kipkay!
Ive found that a dinner fork works really well to remove the needles. If you center it it provides just enough leverage to remove them safely and is easier than scnrewdrivers
If your car had a warranty, it doesn't anymore.
That is stupid. Part of pride in ownership is upgrading and modifying. I'd never buy anything and worry about whether I'm "allowed" to change light colours lol.
+Justin Credible (JustinCredibleTV) I agree, but the reason that modifications can void warranties is because if your modification causes a problem, it's unrealistic to expect the manufacturer to fix it for free.
+CactusGuy "Oh, your engine is burning a lot of oil? Unfortunately we can't fix that because you changed the LED's in your dashboard." Who would say that?
+Justin Credible (JustinCredibleTV) I agree. I see too many rolling in their car bone stock, except for a plastidipped emblem or something every now and then. Seems like people are too worried about their resale value, and in that case you have bought the wrong car.
+Henrik Nilsen I said If the modification is the direct cause of a problem. Like if you modify the dashboard LEDs and the dashboard stops working.
that's WAAAY too dangerous!
also i thought you gonna make them brighter, not dimmer!
MegaNight - Really? I'm pretty sure that you're thinking way too much into this. I'm a 21 year old FEMALE, with absolutely no car experience whatsoever, and I managed to change the lights in my dashboard using this, and managed not to fuck it up. After I did it I got my uncle, who's a mechanic, to take a look at it, and see if it looked like I screwed up anything, and he was shocked that I did it correctly. So, if you're gonna bitch and complain, bitch and complain on a video that's less detailed.
Aren't they dimmable? They have been in all the cars I've ever owned.
Bitch please, I drive a Corsa B from '97 and I got a feature that allows me to dim all of the lights (even the numbers around the gauges) almost completely. Sure it's safe.
Been wanting to do this to my 07 wrangler for a long time. I wanted red lights. Found that I need to change the resistors for red lights. A bit beyond my skill level. I did put some red paper over the blue bright light indicator. Made it much less blinding. If you have any tips regarding idntifying the resistors it they would be appreciated. white/ blue and green leds use the same resistor, red needs a dif one for some reason. Thanks for the video.
Professor Jameson that's crazy I wonder why and which, because red is the color I would like myself.
Regular red LEDs are made differently, so it has a lower breakover voltage, but you can get blue LEDs with a phosphor that converts blue into red, or white LEDs with a filter, so they are electrically identical. They aren't as bright as white, so that might be a good thing.
Dat improper surface mount parts removal technique... Good way to lift the pads right off that circuit board..
Wear your seatbelt man
Did anyone else notice he had no gas in the car?
I shot the footage with the key out. Just the lights on.
fail
fail
fail
the engine wasnt even running he might have had it in a accessory mode and turned on lights manually
Best video in a long time. Very good work Kip.
Nice LED cluster!! 👍🏻👍🏻
My dashboard has orange and green backlights!
Cool
Collin Parks yep I have a saab 9-3. Lovely car!
Awesome for my first car I want a Chevy El Cameno
Coool!
Ya and I'm going to make it into a every day driver that can be brought to a drag strip to race other road cars, it's going to be interesting that's for sure
Lol a good hack to get rid of that pesky seat belt light is to simply PUT ur god damn seat belt on 😂
AbradedWhips LOL! But I don't wear one in the parking lot.
this is good if you dont have an instrument cluster that you can already change color with, like in my 06 mustang
Finally something usefull from kipkay.
Is this legal
think so, but doesn't hurt to check
Rakesh Kumar It's completely legal. There is no law that requires a seatbelt light in a car. However, this probably voids your car warranty (if you still have it).
Depends on the light specs and colors. Also depends where the car is registered.
In many places it's even legal to drive without a speedometer in your car at all.
***** Please shut up
Smh this dude thinks thats hacking
Brandon Spain the original definition of hacking was to modify a circuit or circuit board to do things it was not originally designed to do. Let that sink in...
phattieg idk man, still not convinced
Apparently you're clueless to what hacking in general is.
Now this is a project thats actually cool and not stupid
This is so cool. Very well done.
It´s extremly dangerous to remove the dashboard! The airbag can trigger and hit you in the face.... just sayin´
A good idea to disconnect the battery when working on components that has something to do with the air bag system.
we said that a million times
You should always unplug the battery before doing any electrical work. Not just for the airbags, but for the computers.
That part of the dash doesn't have anything to do with the airbags...
😂😂😂
Lol SMD LEDs.
Well this is awesome, but The digital dash in my 1987 Firebird is Awesome as it is, nice job kip!
I would do this but with colour coded needle stops so whenever I drive, blue means 40 mph and red means 50 mph. That is a good idea for seniors who can't drive at night too! :D
Disclaimer for newbies: If you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't do this hack!
Removing the seatbelt light? Sorry but that's just arrogant. Let's say the one time you forget to put it on is the one time you have a crash...
TheWhooo123 Man, people now are strange. I remember everybody bitching when they made seat belts mandatory.
Not too mention possibly illegal, especially if he were to try to resell the vehicle at some point and forget to replace that...
This is cool... Really cool. I dont Have a car just a motorhome no dashboard. So ill wait for some motorhome hacks. Stay cool!
Great video kipkay!
cluster fuked
😆
your videos have really improved!
After watching this I really appreciate dashboards that have bulbs.
Definitely cool. Definitely going to try i
