@@anaheimdennis I wish I could have asked her more questions- we always take our grandparents history for granted when we are young. I remember she told me her Victorian mother was pretty horrified when she saw her go out to the Speakeasies. She was a religious woman who still wore corsets and the flappers didn’t wear bras if they didn’t have to - just a slip under their dresses. My grandma cut all her hair off too - into a 20’s bob ( called a Louise Brooks Bob). It was a very big change for women since prohibition allowed women into bars without escorts. She talked a lot about Derringer being shot outside the Biograph Theater in Chicago since her friend witnessed it. A lot about gin, Clara Bow (the “It Girl”) and dancing. Bullshit. I'm a fat hairy man who can do this. Don't ask, it has to do with hanging out with gays and lots of alcohol. The Charleston while awkward is mostly about centering yourself and tight footwork with a loose hip. Women naturally already have an advantage over males because your centre of gravity is higher up than ours. That's why women have grace while men have I don't know, lump foot? When players of NRL, NHL, NBA, Australian Rules football and Rugby want to get better at their footwork they take Ballerina classes. Being "light in the foot" was once a term to refer to gays negatively is now something sought after by sporting elites.
Indeed! Even thought the Roaring Twenties had its problems, it was still considered one of the most exciting and innovative decades in history. So many radical changes in culture, music, art, and invention! Where's our time machine?!

I love the arm movements and twists. Her footwork is outstanding. Her choreography is top notch. Her smile joyous and appealing. I give it a 23 skid-doo.
I went and looked up old videos of the Charleston and not only does she nail it, she gives it a glittering freshness that takes old time and makes it timeless.
Wow! This is the finest example of vintage dancing I've ever seen. The music, the moves, the setting - all simply stunning. Thank you, Maria, and please keep the videos coming! Modern jazz's loss is our gain. Your constant smile is the icing on the cake.

That videographer knew what they were doing to capture the dancing exquisively, all in one take, using the sun to their advantage. With such a talented subject, this is an el primo musical/dance video.
Loved every minute of this, love her videos. What a talented dancer. Every time I see her do the Charleston I think of my Mom when she was young a beautiful. Thank you.
Though her name is not vastly publicized, this dancer is absolutely magnificent!, It is rare that she is capable to do such extensive and vigorous dancing techniques! Thanks for sharing these videos .
You can see she's enjoying her dance. Wonderful to see. Thank you. Reminds me of my teenage years when my grandmother taught me to Charleston as she used to do it in her 20's in the 1920's.🐨🦘😉
Amazingly artistic, she interprets and enhances the freedom and the joy of the music beautifully. Her dance and the music are in perfect harmony conveying a light hearted joy of life. And anyone fortunate enough to watch gets to share in this feeling. Thank you.
I agree with your description 100%. I also want to add how much I love its unique quirkiness and ultimate feminine sexiness. I wish I were a bit younger but even at 52, once this damn pandemic is over I am going to find a swing dance class and aspire for this particular spirit! The most perfect one I have ever seen.

Fabulous dancing inside the Palace of Fine Arts. My wife and I would walk to the Palace from our home a block away and dance inside but we couldn't Charleston like you! Bravo!
Wearing shorts may not fit the dance style but it does allow the viewer to delight in her awesome leg manipulations. Her beaming smile shows how much fun she is having, and brings a delighted smile to my face as well. Outstandingly entertaining. Love it!
YOU GO GIRL! Awesome and ACCURATE! It's hard for a dancer to remember NOT to point their toes at the end of a kick, but that's precisely THE Charleston!
When doing demonstrations as an art teacher, I constantly hear from my students, "How do you DO that?" Making jazz dancing look as natural as this young lady does, I can feel the astonishment my students must feel. She is simply amazing!
O,My....I went back to my Grandmom...in her basement...the old Vic trolla playing...the kind you hand cranked...and my Grandmom slipped into a very old style dress, and danced the Charleston....what fun!!!!
Ahhh! My grandma was a flapper in Chicago in the 1920’s. She taught me how to do this when she was in her 70’s! She could still do it well!

The LOCATION and the SUNLIGHT made the perfect stage for this WONDERFUL performance ☀️👍

Yes, wonderful location but I didn't like the direct sun flashing at the camera lens, would have had the subject facing the sun instead
