We've used TGTB LA level K and Math level K and 1 for my daughter. I went through and marked everything out as we are also secular. She asked why for a while and now she just will be like "oh that just doesn't need to be a part of my schooling" and moves on. I had all intentions of dropping TGTB this year, have purchased and using different curriculum, but I've printed out the next levels for the upcoming year. They've worked in the past and I really think they are gentle and beautiful. For now I think we can look over the religious components but I do know that it gets worse the further along you get. I think the part that has bothered me most is the amount of religion that's in the math component especially when it's not related or needed.
I'm curious as to what kind of conversation you have with your kids about why you marked through parts of the book? I've done the same in the past but as my kid is reading more I'm hesitating because it just feels like it would be awkward and lead to a whole lot of questions that I don't necessarily want to get into in the middle of during school time. LOL,
We have always kept the topic of religion very open. They understand that while we will answer and provide info about any religion, we don't prefer to include it in every subject. They are also a part of the process of picking curriculum so have seen how I have made changes for our family.

That is great that it has worked for you! It wasn't a winner in our house but I can see how and why so many people use it.
I like the idea of prepping it early! I use to just try and adjust as i went and then just stopped all together, but think im going to try this out!
