    Ive had a bunch of sweets recently. And good heavens, it was miserable. All the mental/ physical health issues and little things that went away all flooded back. It was the worst, I am "hard headed" as the older generations would say so I need to go through these back and forths to overcome my sugar addiction. But it reminds me of why I started carnivore in the first place. I was sick of being sick and out of control with food/life. Its a struggle, you will fall but keep on going carnivores!

      I also had that in the beginning. (Almost 5 years carnivore now, before that keto and low carb) But the longer I was carnivore the easier it was for me to stay away from that stuff. And the longer I didn't have sweets they tasted too sweet for me very often. Now when I smell 'food' I ate before becoming carnivore I don't miss it anymore and the smell often is even disgusting to me. But I also feel Bad physically when I eat non-carnivore stuff. I get my joint pain back, IBS and feel bad mentally. So I always started carnivore very quickly again after fallinh of the wagon. I think the longer you are on carnivore the easier it gets. Maybe the body realizes how bad the non-carnivore stuff is and the taste somehow adjusts. 🤗 I Wish you all the best! 🥩🧈🥓🥚

      The one-word answer is "No". This is because 60% (some sources say it ranges from 50% to 80%) of the protein we consume is turned into glucose by a process that ends up generating significantly more heat than the digestion of fats or carbs.
      Note that eating an ultra-high protein diet, e.g., only rabbit meat, is lethal and, therefore, could affect one's weight loss...

    • @Santa-ny1yp
      @Santa-ny1yp 2 месяца назад +2

      The Yes portion can only come into effect when a body builder for instance, drinks protein shakes all day. you have to have well over a normal dosage to gain weight from it. Also, when media people talk about high carb or high fat they can mean up to 80% of caloric intake. There are very few people that will eat more than 40% of protein as calories, generally high protein is over 20% of calories.

That seems miserable feeling very hungry every day. I've been strict Carnivore Diet (CD) since 6-24-22 and never hungry. I'm still obese but many metabolic syndrome issues got much better. I have 60lbs more to lose. So you're saying for some on CD the greater weight loss will come if you stay the course, but how long is long? Still I was a vegetarian 32 years and obese with all metabolic issues and lost weight at times but never kept it off like I have been on CD. I owe a lot to Dr. Berry and support his cause. Thank you for the translation. I watched the video a few times and I agree with your interpretation and analysis. I just listened to Dr Elizabeth Bright on Dr Chaffee’s channel and found her insight into high fat and regulation of hormones (since hormones are made of cholesterol) to be far more realistic and seem to be accurate with how my body performs best. I don’t really agree with this woman’s assessment of lower fat, but if it works for others, who am I to judge? But I would encourage listening to Dr Bright as an opposing source to the lower fat diet. It’s interesting if you want to hear a different take on this same question.

      I think the confusion comes from not emphasizing what she meant by " high protein, low fat , " etc. How high is "high" and how low is "low". When we speak , in our carnivore/keto community, high protein, low fat the only one thing comes to my mind PSMF. Which is great for losing weight for short time . Done it . Still once in a while do it when need to loose some pounds because I eat other days high fat and eventually gain some . Well. That's me.

    My girl and I have been strict carnivore for a year now with all the benefits including weight loss until we started making beef jerky. We make our beef jerky from lean ground beef, 93/7 so as not to get the dehydrator full of fat. We usually eat these dried strips of beef by dipping them in grass fed butter, absolutely delicious but we have both put back on a couple pounds, not a lot but we sure aren't losing any more. So 2 days ago my girl had a blood workup done, she is a respiratory therapist at a local hospital and I suppose it is mandatory. Everything was perfect except her glucose level was high, 109. Dr.said it was nothing to worry about but she should cut out the sugar, she replied I don't eat sugar. Then the Dr. said well, cut out the bread and carbs, she said I dont eat bread and carbs and then explained that she is carnivore for over a year. That was the end of the conversation. So we are going to replace our beef jerky with butter bites and see how that goes.

      It was so weird for me to all of a sudden be starving all the time - it wasn’t like that the first month of carnivore, though. I was obsessing over eating again, even if I just ate 1000 calories of ribeye an hour earlier. I just couldn’t stop this insane hunger. After about a month, I started putting butter in everything again and drinking fat. I finally got to the point where I felt normal and satisfied again. I had never been so hungry before and since I track my calories, I know I was eating plenty, but I couldn’t go to bed with out binging on a ton of meat. I started sneaking food again, which I used to do before keto, which was a year ago. I need the fat, I guess!

      OMG, I’ve been dealing with the same thing-insane hunger after 3 months of being fine on carnivore! It’s been driving me mad, causing cravings and leading me to overeat and cheat! I had already had a weight loss stall after about one month on carnivore (no cheating or overeating at that point), so I was already thinking of adding more fat, but I was still so perplexed by this new hunger. All I could think was that it might’ve been caused by having ONE stevia sweetened vitamin water (not a norm for me-desperate thirst on a long drive), or a sudden shift to lack of sleep and higher physicality with a job change (cortisol/adrenals taxed). Anyway, glad to know I’m not alone, and I hope I will have success adding more fat as you did!

    • @tb54321
      @tb54321 2 месяца назад

      @Caitlin That sounds exactly like my situation. That video with Dr Bright also mentioned that if your cortisol is high, the fat is more helpful, too. So increasing your fat may be good if you’re really stressed.
      I was so frustrated my binge eating and cravings all of a sudden appeared. I was still eating a good amount of fat, around 60-70%, but it just wasn’t enough. I made sure to increase it to at least 75% and I made sure to take some extra vitamins and minerals just in case I was deficient. I hate liver, so maybe I’m not getting enough nutrients (I do eat duck eggs, though).
      I just got bloodwork done yesterday, so I’ll be able to see if I am deficient somewhere, but I feel better increasing my fat. I feel like I’m back to being in control of my diet again instead of obsessing over food like I did all the time before I started keto.

    I started carnivore in 2016. Lost a ton of systemic inflammation and got healthier. When my weight loss stalled, I noticed my blood sugars were slightly elevated for long periods of time after a good rib eye.
    The answer for me was to lower the protein to .5 grams per pound of lean mass. I increased fat intake in the form of animal fat gee/butter and olive oil. Protein was around 20%. Zero carb. I also tested urine ketones which were non existent on high protein.
    The key for me was to get into ketosis using higher fat intake which shut off gluconeogenisis issue.
    For me personally, it appeared the blood sugar elevation was not significant but enough to keep ketosis at bay halting my fat loss. I was able to get much leaner when making these changes.

      Question for you and/or others in the know. I looked into the keto diet and almost every article, video, or blog ALWAYS talks about ketosis and its benefits. It seems to be the most used word in the keto community. Fast forward to today when I've been researching carnivore for weeks now and the word ketosis is hardly ever mentioned!!! WHY IS THAT? It's my understanding carnivore is even BETTER than keto in that everyone doing real carnivore must certainly be in ketosis. Why is one community all about ketosis and the other hardly even mentions it? Seems very strange to me. THANKS everyone/anyone.

      @@usaman7358 because on carnivore, you're basically in turbo-ketosis. Almost nobody bothers to talk about it, because generally speaking, getting into ketosis isn't a problem with carnivore. I have stopped bothering to check my ketone levels while on carnivore.
      Back when I was "regular" keto, I had to manage my protein intake so it was below a certain level, and I checked my ketone levels periodically, to verify I was in ketosis.

      @baranjan4172 2 месяца назад +15

      @y00t00b3r it's more complicated than that. not all carnivore is created equal. someone doing lots of dairy and leaner meats and eating frequently isn't necessarily in ketosis all the time or even frequently. But with 1 or 2 meals a day with no dairy included (just meat and eggs) and fasting in between the meals drifts into ketosis between the meals. Usually right after meals one gets out of ketosis. Yes, being in ketosis definitely has health benefits but it isn't necessary to be in ketosis all the time. Not eating plants has a ton of benefits in and itself.

      Stick with more fat. This pure protein advice is not right AT ALL. In fact could be not so good - do more research on it, but most of the experience comes back as too much protein means trouble. The fat has to be very high, (no carbs of course). Meat like Beef Brisket, or Pork Belly, are loaded with fats. Better than lean. You sleep better and weight goes down as your hunger is satiated.

    Have to agree to disagree here, I spent a year and a half on Carnivore pretty strict(would rate myself at an 8.5/10, not perfect but no milk, very limited heavy cream, small amounts of cheese every other day at most, very rarely would have a one off cheat meal) and weight loss stalled out fairly quick, later skin tags stopped disappearing. Blood work showed a fasting insulin of 13 despite not having cheated once in over two months prior.
    Switched to roughly an 80/20 split of calories from fat/protein and immediately started losing weight again without actually making any changes to the specific foods I was eating(other than banning all cuts of meat from birds forever due to being too lean). Skin tags started shrinking again, mood improved, psoriasis fully cleared up again, muscle gain actually increased despite cutting protein to at least 1/3rd if not less. Yeah everyone is different, do your own N+1, etc. but to imply that high enough protein can't stall/reverse weight loss in at least some individuals who are strict keto/carnivore feels a little disingenuous. Yeah, you can't spike your blood sugar like you can eating a bowl of cereal or pasta, you probably can't give yourself full blown T2D, but if your primary caloric intake is protein then your primary fuel source is still glucose.
    It's a mistake I've made, and one I hope nobody else does. Kind of feels like the whole year that I yoyoed between 240 and 250 was wasted on doing it wrong.

    Certainly one thing I have noted as a GP in my keto, ketovore and carnivore patients is that many, including myself, do have a slightly raised fasting BSL (5.5-6.5 mmol / L or 100-117 mg/dL) but is almost invariably accompanied by a low Hba1c and insulin. I was attributing it to the AM wake up stress hormone effect (cortisol, adrenaline), and postulating if this might actually be normal human physiology that is just not recognized anymore in this modern carbohydrate dominant world.

    This is my second period on the carnivore diet. Cramp pain went from 12/10 to 3/10. This is the main reason I've kept going. Anxiety is almost no more, unless im dealing with "foolishness" at work. My Eyebrows have always been sparse, and im excited to share that I can visibly see them growing in, I see baby hairs along my hairline as well. The scale has not moved much, but my body looks completely different. Everyone keeps asking about my face lol. I used to be insecure about the "bags" under my eyes. Even if I sleep or drink lots of water, they are there and noticeable. I always thought it was because i wear glasses or something, but since eating like this.... i just feel very pretty when i look in the mirror, and my eyes look bigger. (Please let me know if anyone has experienced this.) So much so, i want contacts. I went from stressing everyday about what I was finna eat, tracking and forcing myself to do a bunch of cardio. Now I simply throw some meat in the pan or boil eggs, eat until I feel full, and im good until the next day pretty much. I decided to focus on diet and not lifting. However, i had so much energy last weekend, i went. I normally do squats/leg press around 80lbs. But when I say that felt way too easy, im not kidding. I needed to add, not 1 but 3 more plates to feel a challenge. I was so shook, and this is after taking a month off. My only issue is sometimes I feel dizzy, or tired. For example, I started my period, this morning, almost fell trying to make it to the bathroom. I looooove coffee, but this morning it made me feel nauseous, and I could smell something that turned me off. I ended up throwing up, made some ground beef instead, and I feel soooooooooo much better. It was almost instant.
    I've cheated one time because it was my father-in-law's birthday. my man really wanted me to share a piece of chocolate cake with him, so i did. however the next day I broke out and I had a TERRIBLE headache for two days, so I made him take care of me lol. afterwards, I had to have a conversation with my family to tell them to please stop trying to force me to eat stuff because I literally feel terrible afterwards. Now if we go out my man will speak up with me like "no, she said no. She literally gets sick, and i prefer when shes awake and happy. Not grumpy" lol I also find it crazy how people look concerned about the fact that I'm eating a piece of steak or putting salt on my food. but they can sit there and eat an extra large coke, cake, cookies and pies in one sitting. I got into an argument with my aunt because she said "wow thats a lot of salt" and i said "wow thats alot of sugar... arent you diabetic?????" Mind your business lol

    After several years on keto and finally losing 51 lbs, I was greatly dissatisfied with my weight loss progress (240 to 189) and decided to try carnivore. Within two months, still only eating one meal per day, just having changed that one meal to meat only(mostly beef but some salmon, some eggs, and rarely chicken), I regained all of the weight that I had lost.
    I have given up trying to lose weight. I will never revert to a diet that includes carbs, but carnivore did nothing for me. I went back to keto and cannot lose any weight at all. At 5’5 and 240, this sucks, but it’s apparently my reality.

      @angelhelp This seems to be my reality too. I lost 50lbs on keto back in 2019 & I felt SO much better mentally & physically, but eventually for no apparent reason my weight loss stalled (still had 20lbs to go to be at a normal, healthy weight for my height/age). That was about the time when Dr. Berry started pushing Carnivore more than Keto. Since his & his wife’s video had helped me learn so much valuable info on Keto, I figured his info on Carnivore would help. But not only did I regain weight (20lbs) on carnivore, I felt nauseated all the time because of only eating meat & butter & mentally I got very depressed & started obsessively thinking about food & thinking of eating 24/7, though I’m not entirely sure why. I don’t know if it was because of some sort of withdrawal symptoms from going keto to zero carb or just because I’ve gone my entire life enjoying food & for the first time in my 50 yrs of life I started dreading having to eat because I was so restricted. I do my best to get all my vitamin/mineral requirements & if I feel like I’m not getting it in my food, I use additional vitamins/supplements. I even started to wonder if I had developed some sort of eating disorder since I was starting to get mentally depressed & overly obsessive over what I put into my body. I finally decided Carnivore wasn’t right for me & went back to doing Keto, focusing solely on REAL low carb food (not the processed keto crap that has popped up on grocery store shelves in recent years). Did I loose the extra weight? NOPE. I’m still GAINING weight. And now Dr. Berry & his wife rarely even make videos about Keto anymore, it’s all Carnivore info. So now I feel hopeless. I guess I’m just meant to be overweight & uncomfortable in my body regardless of how well I try to respect & treat it by putting the best quality foods I can find into it. I know this sounds dramatic, but I feel like all three….Dr. Berry, his wife and my body have betrayed me. This video doesn’t help the average person one bit. It’s just a bunch of medical jargon & skirting around a real answer for us regular people to understand. I give up trying to lose weight. Like you, I will never go back to eating high carb, but apparently being fat is just my reality.

    It is amazing, how many medical doctors are on the Carnivore diet. From what I see, most carnivore diet RUclipsrs are doctors. Some are just regular people, but they also interview lots of doctors about it. I started the carnivore diet on the 16th of March 2024, yep only 3 days ago, I have given up sugar, milk, and I'm drinking cream with my coffee, (Not giving that up yet). So far, I have lost 3.2 Kg's. I have lost literally 1kg per day since starting this. My depression has left me already, I'm going through some cravings right now, but I was expecting that, so I have just accepted that that is part of the process, (that makes it easier to cope). For years I have had bloodshot eyes, now the whites of my eyes are really white. I'm experiencing a mild headache at the moment, and I am putting that down to removing sugar from my diet. I had a couple of aspirin so hopefully that will get rid of that. I was still drinking lactose-free milk till yesterday because it satiated my sugar cravings, and then I found out why. Milk is full of sugar, but cream is okay. Currently, I'm off from work, and that is going to test me the most. They don't have cream in the lunchroom fridge, and people tend to steal things from the fridge, so I don't want to waste money buying cream just for it to be stolen or used up before I get to it. So I guess it is going to be black sugarless coffee for me tomorrow afternoon. That should be interesting. Sorry I just wanted to share my cool progress. I will be eating lots of fat too. Thanks for all of your awesome advice regarding the carnivore diet.

    She's absolutely on point! The body does not store protein, so if not utilized(to build muscles, for example), the body will recycle and convert the protein into a usable energy source. However, the process by which the body does this(since protein is not the preferred energy resource), requires MORE* energy than it produces[edit: poor choice of words, see note below]. So, all things equal, a person would actually lose weight on a high protein, low carb diet.
    *Note: Not that it requires more energy than it produces, but rather; it requires a measure of energy, resulting in an overall smaller gain than usual. For example; It's like expecting 1 gram of protein to produce 4 calories, but forgetting that the process itself requires some energy, so you end up with 3.2 calories instead. Gotta pay a little for the service.😉

      One thing I learned years ago, that no one seems to mention anymore, is that when you start eating a low-carb, high protein diet, your body starts rebuilding all your cells and you will gain weight. But once that initial rebuilding phase is done, you will then start to lose weight but mostly in the form of fat loss. Technically, losing weight is a misnomer, anyone who wants to be thinner really wants to lose fat. I've seen fit people who weigh more than a fat person may times in my life. Muscle weighs more than fat.

    To much protein will absolutely prevent you from entering ketosis. Which in turn prevents you from using fat for energy. Causing what? Excessive amounts of fats in your system. I've been carnivore for 5 months, cannot get into ketosis. I eat 4 carbs a day. Coming from 1 whole avocado. I do my macros, and have around 250g fat and up to 195g or protein. That's on workout days. Non workout days my fats stay pretty much the same but protein drops 40-50g. In turn, this is destroying my labs. Sent all my lipids through the roof. So be careful when doing carnivore or any diet. It does not work the same for everyone. Crappy part, I've lost 35lbs and feel great. Must just be a calorie deficient. FYI...I eat 3200 calories a day and I'm starving all day.

    Dr. Ken D. Berry, I have been following your RUclips videos since 2 years ago. Thanks to you I have improved greatly from type 2 diabetes and hypertension and no longer on drug medication. I applied "8 hours eating window period per day" intermittent fasting with 1/2 keto diet.
    Yesterday I read your PHD ebook. I am not too happy with your article on plant cooking oils. i think for better clarity, there is a need to differentiate plant cooking oils between industrial refined plant cooking oils and cold pressed plant cooking oils.
    I would like you to consider the following:
    Highly processed foods also contribute to the modern chronic diseases.
    The most dangerous of all highly processed food is the industrial refined plant cooking oils.
    The US government says soya bean oils are good, and palm oils are bad.
    The Malaysian government says palm oils are good, and soya bean oils are bad.
    The truth is, both are bad.
    The most dangerous aspect of these industrial refined plant cooking oils is not that they are polyunsaturated omega 6 oils. That is only secondary in concern.
    The primary concern is that these industrial refined plant cooking oils are refined using toxic chemicals and exposed to a very high heat processing.
    This makes the cooking oils very toxic, cancerous, and not fit for human consumption.
    In the standard safety guidelines for food to be fit for human consumption, the food that is exposed to heat exceeding 150 degrees Celsius is not considered fit for human consumption.
    The standard heat process of cooking oils in the industrial cooking oil refinery exceeds 200 degrees Celsius.
    A good and safe alternative to industrial refined plant cooking oils is cold pressed plant cooking oils such as cold pressed coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil.
    Cold pressed plant cooking oils are fit for human consumption as they are not subject to toxic chemical and high heat processing.

    Greetings from the UK. Love your show and energy. I am 76 and 6 ft 3in tall. Have been on a ketogenic diet for 3-4 months, eating , meat, fish and sea-food, low carb (more pre-biotic veggies) and low oxalate plant matter. No seed oils and cooking with saturated fats and occasionally virgin olive oil. Just had my diabetic check-up. My Hb1ac was 4.7, 6months ago, but now 4.1 (fantastic). However, my total cholesterol was 7.0 up from 4.3. Significantly raised LDL and slightly raised HDL and Triglycerides. Doctor really concerned about LDL levels and wanted me to take statins. I tried to explain that this issue was common on keto/carnivore diets and I was actually happy with this, because my body was in a degree of ketosis. My very mild non-alcoholic diffusely fatty liver was burning away and putting more lipids into my bloodstream. I explained all my massive health benefits, since radically changing my diet. 1. 9Kg weight loss, especially visceral fat, 2. don't feel hungry and know when I'm satified. 3. Great mental clarity. 4. Had BPH for 30years, but now urine flow improved. 5. Sleep better, with less vivid dreaming and waking up. 6. My severe asteroid hyalosis in one eye for 30 years has almost gone and my 55 year short-sightedness has improved so much that I keep forgetting to wear my varifocal glasses. 7 Small patches of psoriasis on face much better. 8. Numerous small flat keratotic flat warts on tops of my feet and up calfs have disappeared. 8. far less stiffness and "fibromyalgic" type aching in my muscles and joints . I rate these improvements as a great success. My doctor thinks I need statins, because she told me that she is worried about any medical liability, if I am not being treated according to their guidelines! Any comments on raised LDL levels from keto dieters? Does it lower eventually?

      Uk Drs have been told by NHS to get patients on statins. I happened to have read some peer reviewed papers about it before I saw my GP. She wasn't very happy when I said I didn't want it and said I'd deal with it by changing my diet - half hearted keto and OMAD. OMAD is really easy for me as I don't often get hungry. Dr. Sent me to the practice dietician who told me to eat carbs less veg and more meat!
      A long way of saying the Drs are under pressure to prescribe more statins.

    I have been eating a ketovour diet for about 5 months. I have lost about 50 lbs and no longer take insulin injections. All was going well until a few weeks ago when my blood pressure dropped to an average of about 64/42. I had a total loss of energy and frequently felt I was on the verge of fainting. In desperation I started adding some carbs back into my diet (still no sugar, processed or deep fried foods) and almost immediately my blood pressure was back to normal (110/70) and my energy has returned. My blood sugar level has gone up slightly (100-120) but I still take no insulin. Ideas?
