Yikes, this is no way to treat commissionees! I’m sorry you went through that. Commissioners are giving themselves a responsibility they need to face, it’s a business, and when money is involved, it’s serious!

Thank you, and yeah, it’s a shame that some commissioners act like this! I’m very careful who I give my money to now, and I no longer order from artists I’m not too familiar with 😬
I’ve heard many stories similar to mine so it’s more common than I thought!

I've only been commissioned once and it was by a close friend, so thankfully I haven't had any horrible experiences with doing commissions. I can't say anything about vise versa since I've never bought a commission, once I get a job I hope I can start supporting other artists, especially my friends since they're always drawing me stuff on my birthday. It's one of the best feelings to have someone do something nice for you.

I’m sorry to hear that and you shouldn’t! It’s your order so it’s okay to ask for updates! If they get rude with you then that’s their problem! ♥️

  • @meowusaurus
    @meowusaurus 2 года назад +4

Wow, that attitude! It definitely isn't wrong to ask for an update, especially after a month!
I don't think I've had an experience like this, thankfully, and I hope to never have one. I always get nervous when it comes to asking about an update, so just thinking about some artists reacting negatively to this, is a BIG nope...!

I hope you never have to deal with it too, it’s the worst! It’s honestly made me paranoid about who I give my money to; I’ve lost respect for so many artists over the years because of their egos.
People tend to assume the art community is this place full of sunshine and rainbows where folks just support each other but it’s the COMPLETE opposite! 😂💔

There are plenty of great artists that are great people, but then there are great artists but flat out rude people. On DA, on Instagram, Twitter, etc. I'm so sorry you've gone through this. I hope that wherever Mary is now, she learned how to better handle her commissioners.
I've felt like I've been in your shoes (not for commissions but for an art trade I had with someone I'll name 'Alex') back when I was more active on DA. Looking back, they gave me an attitude when I asked them for an update on their half (as Ive gotten mine done already). I, being very embarrassed (I was also a teenager), apologized for speaking up. I thought I just caught them on a bad day, because we all have those. A few days later, they did their half and when I thanked them, they never responded. Their art wasn't the best but I was just grateful that it was done and over with
Now years later, I felt justified for speaking up because apparently Alex had a bad rep for 'forgetting' art trades and just would ask people to get free art in most cases, using excuses like being busy and putting up an attitude to get others off their trail and prolong their halves.
I know it's not the same experience as you've had but I've felt a bit of similarities between your story and mine.

I’m sorry you had to deal with that! You didn’t deserve that disrespect and you weren’t wrong for wanting an update!
No one is perfect and I understand we all have things going on in our lives but it’s no excuse to just be plain nasty. I barely do art trades now and I just commission people I’m familiar with.

afortunately, i have never asked for a commission, so i never got threated like that in any way, and (saddly for me) i have never actually selled my commissions, but i think i might be able to react like the girl did, but always apologising my behavior, i also would get to think that i would also be that kind of persons that can get late to do their work, especially because i'm very forgetful, i would pick a lot of persons for the same deadline, but i will apologise to the persons i couldn't finish and explain them with more details and tell them that i would give them their commission as sooner as i could, and while i finish them, keep my commission page as closed by the time, and, if i did not got able to finish, i would refund it with a lil bit more
but i have never gotten commissioned, but still, i think that would be the way i would react, and should
the way she has threated you is completly un-profesional, i'm very sorry that artists threats artists like that, even if the other person is not an artist, they shouldnt be reacting like that way

Thank you! And yeah, I think some people really need to work on their communication skills!
It’s unprofessional to take frustrations out on a client.

When I was on deviantart I had a really bad experience too with a specific commission...
Now I can't find the artist anywhere on the website, she drew many pepper demons, cactus with bright colors and she was really popular... I commissioned her and I think it was not a good idea, same as you, when I wanted news ( even if I was younnggg ) she told me that that she had work to do before mine.
I had the artwork by DM two years later, now that she disapeared, and at the time I didn't had the reflex to download it , I can't find my commission anywhere but yeah... I payed with 1000 deviantart's points so it was not a big consequence, It was just points from commissions that I did for people, but woah oh boy real money, Sincerely I'm happy that you receives your commission at the final. :)

      I KNOW WHO YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT! 😨
I used to be friends with that person and they have a history of disappearing on social media, running away with peoples money. I’m sorry that happened to you, you didn’t deserve that. Back in 2020 they were closely stalking my new friend circle so they’ve never changed; she’s a horrible, two-faced person. If she ever appears again on social media (since she plays this creepy game) I would advise you block her accounts.
Thank you and I hope you have better commission experiences in the future!

Oof! Yes! I have been ripped off before honestly. Some artists I am still waiting on owed art. Its sickening. That artist should have kept you updated at least. Like explaining why its taking her so long, etc. I like commissioning artists who don't keep me in the dark and update me at least once in awhile.

I know I'm late and I'm very sorry for being late. I just wanted to say that I go by a motto, "Tude Over Talent". Was trying to make it sound catchy or something to that effect, but yes, Attitude Over Talent I say.

Well not really a bad commission story. I have yet to do those but before i even knew about commissions i did requests since i heard that it was also a good way to gain an audience for small accounts. Anyways i decided to open requests so i was saying "sure why not" to random people. Yeah...ik.. Not good i learned my lesson! XD So i said yes to this one person in Furraffinity (idk how to spell that-) at the time i had no problem with drawing suggestive content. I kept them up to date with the sketches, the process, etc. Well i got it done and gave it to em tho then they started asking if i could make it into more of a pannel like comic strips and being the people pleaser i was i said yes though days after that i unlocked anxiety.. Real bad anxiety that made my hear race and hands tremble if i even picked up a pencil to draw so i told them that i wouldn't be able to continue their request. They got mad and would send me messages like "wow i didn't even get what i asked for" or pushing me to see when i would be able to get it done which i said i dont think i can because..well.. I cant pick up a damn pen to draw! Overall it made me a little sad that i couldn't finish the request but also mad that they didn't accept that i litteraly could finish it. This was all free so on one hand i dont see why they were mad since they didnt waste money on it but on the other i understand that they were expecting something in return. Overall it just left me confused at the time XD
