I’ll be sure to keep this video in my mind whenever I’m thinking about buying a house, there’s a lot more for me to expect now. Also, thank you for sharing my fanart! 😁
This stresses me out just to think about it lmao- The tank drill story at the end also reminded me of this thing my mom told me about, in which some guy STOLE A TANK and drove it through our state capital which is really close to the middle of nowhere small town where she grew up lmao
We live in an RV actually currently and there’s not much to say except one time the shower lit on fire and broke the glass door of the shower so now we use a curtain Edit0: OK THATS THE FIRST TIME I GOT THAT MANY LIKES ON A COMMENT-36 likes!! Thx! Edit1: OMG 63 - Edit2: HOLY 107 Tysm
Well technically it wasn’t inside the shower it just broke the glass pane but basically my uncle (who was our neighbour at the time - this was in 2020 I believe) attach this sorta heater because we did not have much water at that current rv park. So the heater was used to heat the water (also I’m not going to explain how the heater works but just so ya know- it’s not a regular heater) so one night (we weren’t asleep) my mom put it in the wrong spot and forgot to turn it off and BANG- fire 0-0
This is super interesting to me as someone who has never gone through the home buying process before! Before this video, I never really thought about my dream home, but I know I want it to be _super_ colorful. Like, pastels everywhere. Open spaces are cool too, but I don't think it should be too spacious bc I plan on living alone :P This video was super entertaining, so thank you for giving me things to think about when I do start to figure out what I want in life :)
I recently moved into a college town. Apparently during football games, every time our team wins a point, they actually shoot canons I didn't know thos for a few weeks, so I thought the British where coming or something 😂
The tank thing at the end...i feel you. Former military brat and grew up on a military base when I was younger and I currently live between a military base and a college town so hearing the soldiers in the fields was and still is a common thing for me. I'm kinda us to it. But its a pain when they run drills at random.
Dear, I was always laughing when I lived in an apartment next to train tracks. Usually the train ran RIGHT when I was sleeping. So yeah that is exactly the way I felt when you mentioned the military base near your home. So I know exactly how that is😅
I’m also a self employed artist and the thought of getting a house is SO stressful because of it 😭 I’m hoping in the next few years if I can ever pay off my student loans LOL 😵💫
My mom happens to be a realtor, so I’ve heard somethings from her when she talks about clients. And yeahhhhh you kinda just had all the bad luck fall like dominoes.
"Which is bad when you are trying to buy a house from Bob and supposed close in less than a week!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 This part cracked me up. I am so sorry you had to go through that.
Woof. I felt this story. Also bought a house in 2022 and it was NUTS. We only got ours because we allowed the sellers to stay in the house an extra two weeks while they closed on their other house.
Ooof you've put fear in me about house buying. My boyfriend and I are tentively starting to think about where we're going to be living next year, but the cost of living crisis here in the UK is pushing that day further and further back, and making it less likely at all. He's literally an Oxford scientist that can't afford to live in Oxford. It's mental here right now. Dream situation would be somewhere with an external space for a studio on the property that I can keep my job a little seperate while also close and safe. Realistically, I'll be lucky if I get a spare box room for a studio space, but I can dream lol
Broo this is such a weird story for me to hear since my family has moved three times one of them being out of Austin and into canyon lake then back into Austin lmao. It’s been an absolute nightmare but being somewhere that feels like home is very worth it
My dream home would be any home tbh, though I'm surprised that Austin didn't have any kind of rent increase cap during the painini, in my neck of the woods raising the rent by $600 each month would be illegal! (And the paint part reminded me that when my parents moved into our last house the master bedroom had dark red walls and ceiling, everywhere except a small circle where a smoke detector had clearly been before. We called it "The Artery" until it got repainted lol)
the engineer/Plummer character you drew gave me an idea for a character (which im drawing) a engineer in a post apocalyptic world with handmade weapons and a sledge hammer that doubles as a shotgun
I couldn't even begin to imagine what a nightmare all that must of been for you, everywhere is so expensive although its a different situation my husband and are are trying to plan what well do in the next 5 to 10 years as we possibly expand our family but for that money saving and others always feels like a feral competition , so glad you had a mostly happy outcome and a home to stay in, as always love to see the art and hear the stories you share and loved to see all the fan art at the end 😊
I literally also just bought a house and your story is almost exactly like mine except the lawsuit part and the military lol. Oh and the renovations we're hiring pros for it and the expenses for that are insane! Aaaand I have a huge problem making decisions for small stuff so for stuff that is life changing you can imagine the stress I assume.
We just bought a house (also about an hour away from ATX, but an hour south) and because I am also stupid, I thought our apartment lease was up in September, and only discovered it was up mid July in May. Which is notably, not a lot of time to find, buy, and move into a house. We wound up going new construction with "move-in ready" (which is a very misrepresentative name.) house because we could get a 45 day close. Did a bunch of painting (white walls, who is she?) over a holiday weekend. Much as I would have preferred an established house with Big Trees and no HOA, not having to fight the market definitely had it's benefits.
Omg yes to all of this. I just bought a house because it was cheaper then renting. And I was unemployed for most of 2020 so I have like one month win the two years that I wasn't employed and it made it soooooo much more complicated. I am also a civilian tjat work on a military base and my job on base changed but the employer info on my pay stubsand w2s didn't which added to the confusion not counting the other three other Jobs I had. No lean on my house but the didn't have to move our close date beaucse they didn't have proof that the sellers husband was in fact dead???? Idk. My realtor was also confused. Then after close we still couldn't say we owned it because there were MORE problems on the sellers end so we didn't own it til the next day. We are still in the fixing phase. But, Our Bob, the seller was bobs wife but our neighbors insist Bob lived there alone, was a DIYer... So so many things needed to be fixed properly. We are getting our hardwood floors refinished this week! Still have to fix thr bathroom walls that have a very strange and not at all even texture. And the kitchen is currently getting worked on because he broke the cabneit trying to make the fridge fit. And the microwave. I also live next to a military base! Like... Less then 2 mins away from the gate.... So I get the army noise at night...
when you think deeply on it, highschool was practically useless as they didn't prep us nor our parents about practical and financial adulting. I had to switch lenders in the middle of closing and I'm a w2 employee with the same job for years.
OMG! What a fiasco! Bob should have known about the lien and dealt with it before listing the house. And I can only imagine the challenges your cousin went through finding you a lender. Personally I'm right between the accepting the counter offer and closing on a new house. My current challenge is working out how to move ~10,000 lbs of stuff plus a cat ~1900 miles (including a 7 hour ferry ride). Long distance movers are different than local movers. They load and unload on their schedule with the window for each being days or even weeks!
I can definitely understand the apartment rent pain. I live out in West Texas, and during the George Dubya oil boom the apartment prices here skyrocketed almost to San Francisco prices. (We pay horrid rental prices and we don't even get an oceanfront view to go with 'em!) The apartment my ex-wife and I had jumped fourty bucks (from $325 to $365) when we left the place, but when I was looking for another apartment about five, six years later, the price had shot up from $365 to over $750 a month. :| Rental property owners were raising prices to price out anyone who wasn't a well-paid oil field worker, so finding a reasonable rental price became nigh impossible within a three-year time span.
To anyone else that listens to Distractible, am I the only one that thinks that the fact that she decided to call the seller Bob and mention that the fridge was broken hilarious. Also, I know what it’s like living near something that deals with the military. I live near an airport where they do drills. The planes sometimes make the windows rattle.
Damn wish I saw this sooner one of the main problems with refrigerators is usually the fan in the back is dirty or there’s a large build up of ice inside the thing to do is clean it and melt any ice inside and it should work but if it’s leaking refrigerant…well might as well replace it unless you know how to repair and refill
Woah. Now that is a crazy story! So glad you got what sounds like a pretty decent house during this insane economy. My husband and I are looking to move from an apartment to a house right now and...it's just depressing. lol Hopefully things will turn around for the better for prospective home buyers!
Ooof I feel ya so much on the piranha pit of 2022 real estate... I also had to bid really high, and closing was so goddamn stressful. I'm so sorry this mess happened to you x.x I got outbid by some cash investor on my favourite of the offers I made, but that deal fell through and my realtor called me immediately like "hey, you want some good news?" It's turned out great, and I love my home, but still very expensive even with a good income. Mind-boggling that this still costs less than an apartment in my area. Edit for addendum: I laughed too much at the story at the end. Texas pls xD
Hey! Yeah i feel you about the military town problems. I live in a mining city. You get use to the underground explosions LOL BUT there is that story where a drill went off direction and eventually broke through a guy's basement, but i think that may be bullshit
It's pronounced "lean," like, "I leaned on the table upon which the lien rested." ALWAYS go to the courthouse and check the title on any house you want to buy. If it isn't clean, demand compensation from the seller before putting a drop of ink on any paper. The first thing you do after all the papers are signed and you officially own the home is to change the locks on all the exterior doors. You never know who has an extra set of keys to your home. Another thing you find out after buying a home is there's always another project to be done. This happens even in a brand new house.
Me and my husband have been trying to get our own place too, and it has been a pain. The housing economy is just too expensive and competitive nowadays
Oh boy, that is a steep increase in rent. I mean my fam has worked in property, (my gramps had some properties (inherited after he died) and let’s say, we had the cheapest rent in the whole of the state likely) it’s bad for everyone. Leans, are so painful, especially when you don’t know about them :D before inheriting the property. Yes you inherit leans, and more issues :l
Can i have some qustions? As an 18 y/o who knows nothing about living on thier own? I notice that americans tend to refer to apartment in the context of renting while when refering to buying one's own property they say "a house", Is buying an appretment just not an option in the US? The reason i find it confusing is because i come from a place where a house in a buliding is pretty much gerenteed to be cheeper than any single-family house with a garden. maybe not the newest apartment, not in the most central urben areas, but its definitly the more viable option for young people that are trying to buy their first property. or is it just a quirk of the language that i missed? with "house" refering to any property of your own (rardless of if it's in a building or on the ground) and appartment refering spesificly refering to a place you rent(?) In general i get from Americans the impreshion that apartments are for young people and when you are finaly financialy ready to buy your own house, you get a suberbian on-ground house. Am i wronge? I never lived in an on-ground house so maybe i cant really say much about which is better, but i really don't see the appeal of an on-groud house (i know my wording is kind of funny but i hope you get what i mean😅) Second qustion, is staying at your parant's home for a few months not an option? I can imagine that it's probably not fun for a 20 something y/o to go back to thier parants with their tail between their legs, but it can't be that bad as a worst-case-cenerio plan, can it? Maybe i am still not enough of an adult but i can still have the mentality that i can always rely on my parants if i need a bit of help + i heard enough stories of people in their 30s that were forced to move back with their parants because in this economy is just that mental, so i dont think relying on your parants is off the table for anyone
As for your first question, apartments that you can own are generally called condominiums (condos for short). The desirability of a condo can vary from place to place, but where I live, they aren't very practical. You get the small footprint, limited space for appliances, and shared walls with your neighbors of an apartment, combined with the long term financial obligation and credit requirements of a house. If you are willing to extend your commute, you get more space, a yard, and wall that you don't have to hear your neighbors through, all for the same cost or less. Condos seem more practical for areas where the population density prohibits the development of independent homes. Space isn't much of an issue in the Southwest unless you are adamant about living in the middle of the local metropolitan area.
My dream home is yhe one I am currently living in because that way I dont have to deal with whatever the gosh diggidy darn is going on with the housing market and the only downside is that my mom doesnt want me to grow a beard for personal reasons that dont need to be brought up in a youtube comment.
Meh, owning a house never intrigued me even as a kid. Now building them and decorating, that's my jam. 🤣 Though not as an actual occupation, just any Sims or life simulation will do. 😅 Personally always wanted to live in a big apartment. 🤔
Based on my completely uneducated and speculative opinion informed by internet drama and Reddit stories, my guess is that the solar panel company sent someone to inspect Bob's house to see if solar panels could be installed/make a plan to install them, Bob either had a problem or changed his mind about the panels, and he didn't want to pay for solar panels that he never got, but the panel company didn't want their inspector who already did the inspection to go unpaid. Typically when I see these you-owe-us-money-no-I-don't situations, it's usually plays out as: "I wanted a product and a service, I didn't get/want the product, so I don't owe you money" vs "You may not have gotten the product, but you did get part of our service and you owe us at least for that" situation.
Oh boy... I can't even find anyone to help me buy another house. I currently own a house, that I hate. I hate the neighborhood. I hate the people. I hate this city. But, everyone is quick to jump down my throat and be like "JUST SELL YOUR HOUSE!!" Yeah, while I'm still living in it, I have three people's hoards of stuff and 5 cats. Kind of hard to sell a house while I have cats (they came with the house) because of you know cat hair... cat smells... cat damage... no one thinks of this. No one wants to listen to me because I'm just a stupid little girl who doesn't know what she's talking about. Well.... if I could buy another house or find temporary housing I could move myself, all the crap and the cats out then I could clean up the house to put on the market. Nope. No one wants to hear that. So I guess I'm doomed to rot in a house I hate in a neighborhood I hate in a city I hate. 😔😔

Me and my husband have been trying to get our own place too, and it has been a pain. The housing economy is just too expensive and competitive nowadays
Omg I live in the same area yeah they do test their tanks it’s sorta annoying but you get used to it
OMG I live next to a military i swear the music at 5 is
Oh boy, that is a steep increase in rent. I mean my fam has worked in property, (my gramps had some properties (inherited after he died) and let’s say, we had the cheapest rent in the whole of the state likely) it’s bad for everyone. Leans, are so painful, especially when you don’t know about them :D before inheriting the property. Yes you inherit leans, and more issues :l
good fan art
"No I'm not a sugar baby." 😂
lol im loving this , i live in the same town, great video
I never lived in an on-ground house so maybe i cant really say much about which is better, but i really don't see the appeal of an on-groud house (i know my wording is kind of funny but i hope you get what i mean😅)
Second qustion, is staying at your parant's home for a few months not an option?
Space isn't much of an issue in the Southwest unless you are adamant about living in the middle of the local metropolitan area.
hi i just found your channel and i think you're videos are great keep up the good work!
great video!
might I ask which pen you use to expand your colored areas under your lineart? ;A;
what was the music used in this video the second track seems nice
Wait so you can tell us ur house is next to a military base but not the color of the kitchen? 😅
Typically when I see these you-owe-us-money-no-I-don't situations, it's usually plays out as: "I wanted a product and a service, I didn't get/want the product, so I don't owe you money" vs "You may not have gotten the product, but you did get part of our service and you owe us at least for that" situation.
no cap
If you ever want some tips on landscaping I'm the queen of cheap landscaping techniques. Also I majored in plants :P
@TheStarfishface do you like fnaf
Hello
Hi
Ohhh gurl. I know exactly where you live. I lived there for 2 years. As artists it’s such a small world. I miss Texas, but Chicago is my home. Love your content. I’m becoming a big fan.
