this is a super super late reply and you've probably MASTERED it by now, but a little tip for anyone seeing this who does swimming, is when you do the flip turn to breath out through your nose so the water doesnt get up there heh
YESSS BRO In the beginning I've only ever done 50's but this one swim meet out of nowhere my coach puts me in a 100 and I was so nervous but I did it!!!
yea lol i am in 9th grade and i already have been swimming for a year and went to try out high school swim. my best for 50 free SCY is 24.37 and my 100 is 55.05 which are my best events. for one meet my couch put me in a 200 free and i never swam that for a meet before lol. i got like 2:10:05 for my time which is ok for my first time doing it and it was not has bad but i had no idea what strat i was going to do for each part of the 50 really lol
I mean there are other reasons to skip practice, such as (if you're female) time of the month if it gets bad enough, doctors appointments, family emergencies, etc
As a USA Swimmer, I must say: I'm very proud of you! Swimming takes a lot of time and breath, and despite Asthma, you did AWESOME! Never give up Illy! You can do anything!

Swim environments can become very uncomfortable when people are super competitive, so I love seeing you enjoy it so much! I think a good swim team can be an amazing opportunity and experience.
As another competitive swimmer since I was 7, it is super nice that she had a supportive team. A lot of teams that have super fast swimmers tend to forget about the average swimmers and make them feel like they don’t belong even though they are completely deserving of being on the team.

I remember the only reason I did good was because everyone in my lane was a total asshole who didn’t tap my foot before passing and they always went in front of me when I was faster :/ I won out of pure spite I still spite them btw they’re still rude assholes, maybe they were jealous of me but they didn’t need to act out on that.
This is really inspiring, since recently i started highschool and i only learnt how to swim in the holidays and that was just dog paddles. With extra swim lessons on Tuesdays and 2 lessons of swimming in PE a week in term 3 i really hope i improve ALOT i already did. Thanks so much i am definitely subscribing
Swimming is absolutely an amazing sport. I did varsity in both High School and College, and was at a division 1 school ACC. I was a distance swimmer too so I did stuff upwards of 1500 meter race, and 200 yard fly and 400 IM. What is so interesting about this is I had massive panic attacks around halfway through my high school swimming career. It was wild because I had to relearn why I liked swimming after 12 years with a specific goal in mind, to swim fast and drop time. I think it's super important to learn to not only not give up when it seems hard but also not give up when the situation changes or you change, because you can also learn so much more about what is important to you as a person rather than important to the people around you. I loved watching this a lot, it really warmed my little fish heart haha
I do swim team too and before like every event I feel like I have to peel or I feel like I am going to get sick and I’m missing my leg soo I have trouble kicking and stuff but I still do amazing at it
Ngl your videos like this are such an inspiration. At uni in my third year my friend was like ‘you should join water polo’ and I was like ‘sure okay’. I worry about not being good at sport but hearing your story’s about having lovely teammates helped ease my nerves and I’m really glad I went. Really enjoying it 😁

Relatable! Trying to practice doubly hard over 8th grade so I can even think about making the team in high school. I didn't expect Illy to make a video about this topic, but this was quite informational since she had acknowledged what swim team life is like. I'm not that good at the sport like she had said, but she showed how keeping on going and not giving up was the key to progressing and being part of the team. PS: Love the millions of references! my mom went to college to become a licensed swim teacher. lucky, my parents could afford an in-ground swimming pool! so my mom does swimming lessons in the summer, basically ALL SUMMER. personally, I’m average at swimming. I only did competitive swimming when I was 6 and 7, but then practices got moved to 5am three times a week (before school) in an outdoor public swimming pool (which was always dirty and freezing) :( so, I quit and I haven’t done it every since. although I kinda want to join again....

Hello! This video actually inspired my join a swim team!! It’s been really hard, I could barely swim at all before I joined. I just finished my second meet!! I had 3 events, and I got third and first for my individual events!! I just wanted to share that you’ve been a huge inspiration to me, and without this video I wouldn’t of done that. As a swimmer myself, unless you're injured, sick, or dying, you should NEVER miss practice. One day missed in swim means a week of recovery in my case

Hello! This video actually inspired my join a swim team!! It’s been really hard, I could barely swim at all before I joined. I just finished my second meet!! I had 3 events, and I got third and first for my individual events!! I just wanted to share that you’ve been a huge inspiration to me, and without this video I wouldn’t of done that. As a competitive swimmer, I was raised in a very "swimming" household. For someone who was completely new to the sport, 2nd place is amazing for you. Great job Illy!

We’ve all been there before! Everyone starts somewhere. I went from being the worst person on my middle school swim team to being a great relay and distance swimmer in my freshman year of high school.
