I do not think it is rude if someone does not want to be bothered or is not interested in what you are trying to sell. If they cuss you out, that would be rude, but if they simply are not interested in your services or what you have to say, that is totally reasonable.

a little bit awkward if the data the company uses is way out of date and the person you want to speak to has been dead 7 years and you have to comfort a grieving widow! I did a week of cold calling before I left the job - I hated it! Time cold calling was banned in the UK in my opinion!
