Not only that but everyone seems to be missing the insignia on the tail of the SU-27. That's Ukrainian Air Force, not Russian.
@@hugovale6360 I disagree. The red star on the tail is unambiguously the Roundel of the Russian Air Force. I was in the Navy on an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam war. I can not tell you how many times a Russian Big Bear bomber would do a flyby on our naval ops and we had fighter jets escorting them all the way in and out. This kind of thing has been going on for years. Nothing to worry about folks.
So why both sides escort each other and not shoot the plane down?
Yes, I was working on the flight deck of the USS Oriskany in 1962 and a couple of our F4's were escorting the Bear. I was in VA 165 as an Aviation Machinist Mate working on the Douglas Skyraider.

This stuff has been happening since WWII in Europe. My father, a fight pilot during WWII, was cross trained into radar and we were station in Germany in the '50s. I remember stories he told me of the Russians chasing US Air Force jets along the corridor. Nothing new...it's just worldwide now.
My son, an Air Force Lieutenant, works in a unit which monitors the western side of the US...Russian jets have intercepted US aircraft on many occasions.
And vice versa, of course. We routinely intercept Bears off the US coastline.
... now if you were the Russian pilot on might be your last day flying anyway ... I sure would want to take a good look and a quick salute as well ... quit trying to start a war here ...
Well tell your son to pack it in and get ready for some real action.
It's the buzzing that close especially in front that's the problem. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye and letters are being written home.

Every single time a US aircraft carrier moves between Hawaii and Asian bases at exactly the halfway point in the journey, this happens. In fact, when I was on the USS Coral Sea (UVA 43), the PA announced that the flyby would be happening at 10:31 this morning, so anyone who wanted to watch should get to the flight deck. I remember the time because that's kind of my thing and also because it was so strange that the time would be predicted to the minute.
Sure enough, at 10:31 an aircraft that honestly looked to be the size of the freaking aircraft carrier flew by at about 1000 ft. Poised within a few feet were 4 F-16 fighters. There was one underneath each wing camera and TWO fighters that had their heads poked up inside the cavernous interior. These aircraft actually both had their noses out of sight. I have never seen better flying or braver men serving an absolutely mundane security threat. This was pure theature. The ship I was on was built during WW2 for goodness sake and if the soviets didn't know where every rivet and bolt was on it I would be astonished. The only reason those jets were flying that way is that's the way they always did it.
I don't remember if this happened when we left station to go back to Hawaii, but I would be surprised if the same thing doesn't happen even in this era. Traditions die hard.
Same thing happened to us aboard the Kitty Hawk on Yankee Station in '72. The aircraft was a Russian Bear.
I think the OP meant to type 'CVA,' a very old sort of designation for a fleet carrier, which dates his story far back. Since superseded by just CV. I TAD'd aboard her when the Iran hostage rescue went flop; CV-43's task group was there in support of the USS Nimitz, CV-68, and her task group.

Nice to know your in the pilots mind….. every one is different. That littlee wiggle, could have meant, bug out… This is the world stage with very high powered weapons. Not Osh Kosh Wisconsin. Russaian pilots may have a different understanding of things from 20 years ago..
I don't know how the Russians work, but most other air forces use the "wing wiggle" to show off the weapons they are carrying, not to be friendly!

The first two fighters were Russian (red star on tail). I'm a bit confused as the last two fighters were clearly marked with Ukrainian tail symbols. While we are on the subject of tail markings, the video depicts the B52 with TM tail letters, which usually depicts the aircraft home base. There is no airbase with the designation of TM. Then later on, the tail letters are MT, which designates Minot AFB. I am a retired Air Force Operator and this sends up red flags galore with me.

All major powers play around like this. They don't get as close as in the movie Top Gun, but this is fairly routine. One of my best friends flew in a P3 Orion in the Bering Sea, and he said this kind of thing is done to US aircraft and done by US aircraft all the time. He has similar footage as this.
@@Too-Odd What makes it unsafe is that it’s easy to f**k up such shenanigans. That’s what happened when they crashed into the Reaper drone! Especially Western pilots with plenty of regular flying hours are less likely to screw it up.
Why US is flying over Baltic? This is unsafe.
@@wannaloginnow Are you checking the Russian time cards and flight hours now?
They only respect force. Show them what’s up Biden!🇺🇸

Have fun now Russian pilots! You'd be blown out of the sky long before you saw that bomber in real combat. Get a good look, lol.
Beautiful planes !
Obviously the Defense department has no rules for crew members to video record and release to the public the air missions of American military aircraft.
This is all for global entertainment
"Obviously the Defense department has no rules for crew members"
It is not obvious. The Department of Defense has rules for everything.
The thing that shocks me is why didn't we have fighter jets with these
Why ?? We were not trying to nuke nobody… if you put jets behind the bomber you would be shady as fu
