Great video. I’m 51 and trying to improve my health as I get older by adopting some of these good habits... Starting with reducing my drinking. Thank you. David
Thanks, David. I'm glad you liked it. I have to say that giving up the booze has easily been the best thing I've done in order to improve my health, relationships, energy and so much more. It's not like I'm totally against drinking or even had a problem with it but I've realized that the benefits of not drinking just far outway the hangovers and all the other baggage that comes with it.
been on/off for a year or so, mostly off. I got drunk twice over two weeks after not having been drunk for ages, man, my mood dipped so hard and for quite a long time. It is incredible the effect and duration of recovery.
Oh god yeah man, the day or two after having a few drinks my mood plunges. It's not a nice place to be. All to do with GABA receptors or something, or GABA production? I can't remember specifically the reason, but I'm looking forward to a more consistently positive outlook.
Good stuff I'm 49 and a half..Been binge drinking for 30 plus years plus other stuff, relapsed in a weekend binge after 2 months off, back on the wagon now, 10 days sober..Bored of being drunk and hungover, I've always exercised thank god , but been really concentrating in training lately, saved loads of money all ready, bought a nice car on finance etc , gonna concrete on work and trying to earn loads...Feel great..My biggest problem was never having kids..And missing my drinking friends and the banter, but not the hangovers lol
Thanks for the comment, NB. Yes, I got so bored of hangovers after about 25 years of drinking steadily. Yea it's hard to miss the banter but I can live with that - I get a decent enough buzz from exercising and working on my business now. Good luck, mate.
Excellent video....well done and thank you! I just started the journey after many years of drinking way too much, every day. It was controlling my life and my health was on a downward spiral... I look forward to taking a permanent break from alcohol...
Fantastic, Warren. That’s great to hear. I’m slowly learning all about this new alcohol free lifestyle and enjoying it more and more- I’m also discovering that there are many of us, and not one of them seems to regret making the change!
Thanks for this video full of great information! I started with dry January this year and have carried on since then.. thanks for all the fab reasons to keep sober!
Excellent video, well done on keeping off it. I can go a couple of months but once I start having a beer I get the taste for it. And then it back to four or five days a week.
Thanks, Smaffs59. Personally, I find having an alcohol-free beer keeps me happy these days but I think it's also a really good idea to try and get into other activities when you're off it, like going to the gym or running as that can really keep you occupied and give you the motivation.
Every once and a while I'll take 6-8 weeks off from drinking, and my hangovers seem to get worse and worse after each subsequent time I do this. I enjoy drinking and I can handle a pint or two no problem but any more than that, even three, I'll feel horrible the next day and my wife will tell me my breath smells like alcohol - I am a runner and cyclist and it will drastically affect my athletic performance when years ago it did not. I think my body now metabolizes it extremely slowly. Getting old sucks.
Thanks for the comment, Joel. I agree, getting old sucks, but as someone told me recently, it's better than the alternative! Keep up that running and cycling and you'll be fit as a fiddle well into old age!
This is an excellent video dude. My journey with alcohol and age similar. I’m into month three of taking first break in my life and loving it. Relating to all the points you’ve mentioned. How are you doing now?
Thanks. I'm doing really well thanks. I'm two years off it now give or take about 3 glasses of wine during that time )for New Year's Eve and my 10 year wedding anniversary). No plans to go back to it again ever. Life's too good without it.
Thanks, Errol. I'm working on it, slowly, but the number don't distract me too much, I just want people to feel connected so they can make better, and healthier decisions for themselves.
@@mikemaddox_sm50 well i sure as hell felt connected. Heck it even made me think twice of how much harm i was doing to myself by drinking alcohol.. I'm on a journey to quit drinking and your videos help me get there. Thanks champ for the amazing work. Much love
Mike I can’t seem to stop drinking. I get bored and I drink. I want all the benefits, I want to get my six pack back, but I get bored in the evenings when my wife goes to work.
Hey, saladinabu. Thanks for reaching out. Drinking is first and foremost a habit so perhaps think about the routine that you follow when your wife goes to work. Do you always do the same thing? Sit in the same chair, watch the TV and drink a beer? If so, the drinking is part of the routine so try to change that. Maybe when your wife leaves the house, go for a run and have a long bath when you get back so you're doing totally different things to the usual. Also, try working on your reason 'why'. Perhaps 'getting a six-pack' isn't a strong enough reason for you. Something I like to ask myself when I have a dilemma or want to resist something is this: "What would the man I want to be, do?" Hope that helps. Also, try reading Atomic Habits by James Clear.

@@DannyD1980 It's definitely a journey, mate. Going alcohol-free is a big ask for most people, but with the right mindset, you can definitely do it. Six pints a wk!!!! the British government says that's ok? Holy Crap, that is shocking. I recently got Shingles so I stopped drinking to give my body the best change to get rid of it. For the past 3 1/2 yrs I've worked in a liquor store, I was drinking 1 beer a night, 1 bottle of wine on one of my days off. When I do drink again I plan on only drinking 2 beers a wk, 2 glasses of wine on one of my days off. Not drinking for more than a month now I see how the amount I was drinking did impact my sleep which is in turn impacts hugely how you feel during the following day. My face is less puffy, I've dropped some wt too. I just can't imagine drinking 6 pints a wk, every wk. I am sure the quality of life would be shitty + would be shortened too.
Yep. They recommend no more than 14 units per week (1 pint = 2.3 units roughly) so about six pints. Good to see that you've taken notice of how alcohol is affecting you. Many people never do that. Good luck.
@@Chebab-Chebab Yes it can be easy to get into a loop of drinking that amount of beer. I know a lot of people who have done that too. Have you thought of just taking a break from the booze? If you can change your thinking to "I'm just going to take a break for a while" instead of "I need to stop" and when you are taking a break, you focus on getting a bit healthier. Then it can be much easier to think about stopping in the long-term. Because during your abstinence you may begin to realise what you're gaining by not drinking. The benefits can be quite amazing.
