I have just upgraded mine, I like the new model, the older one I used for about 4 years with no problems ,all my tools are bosch and not one has let me down.
Good video. Bosch's is fine. I think you are fairly articulate actually (and entertaining). A lot of RUclipsrs can plough on through a whole video, making up words as they go along, without even wincing.
VCG Construction + Bosch + the only tool review channel that can read the box to know about the pro vantage warranty + Core battery = one very happy subscriber! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 One 4amp Core battery please! I have the older Freak, need better lighting more than power. The most heavy duty task that I use my impact for at work is installing wedge anchors to anchor cameras to masonry on the side of buildings and/or A/V & Data racks to concrete floors. The 12 V PS42 has enough power to perform these tasks, I carry my freak with me so I only need one battery platform when using my rotary hammer.
I've been slowly switching over to Milwaukee but, Bosch still makes great stuff. I just bought the 6 1/2" 18v circular saw, which came with a free battery and charger and I like it very much. The only thing I haven't liked about Bosch has been the availability. They just don't have as much in the stores as Milwaukee and DeWalt, it's all online. Still lover the quality of their tools though. FYI I just bought a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and carry it every day. Love it. Made in the USA baby. Thanks for the great reviews Vince.
I have had the Freak for about a year now and love it! It is awesome and has had the power to do everything I have asked it to do! With my 3/8" adaptor I have all sizes covered in one tool, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2! Great Bosch Tool. They also just released in the US the 18 Volt FlexiClick drill/driver. Cant wait to get my hands on this tool. Have the 12 volt version and love it. The 18 volt has a hammer drill attachment you can add.
I do not own any cordless Bosch tools, but with the deal on the bulldog with free dust extractor and now this tool I may have to pick them up. I was hesitant but now can Justify the purchase and have a few batteries and tools. Awesome!
I have owned the IDH182 for a while now and I just learned it's called the "Freak", and honestly, I really understand it. It is simply so versatile and very useful if you are someone who is into contracting and cars. The newer revision seems way more powerful and overall more compact than the IDH182, but I will say that I think the LED Lighting is far superior to the old model because of the placement of the LEDs around the drill chuck .
The Bosch Core 4Ah battery is based on five 21700 cells, the smaller ones are based on 16850 cells (half the amps!), so choosing two weaker 2Ah batteries instead of one strong one is not recommended
You are best off with a single 4AH battery, stays in the upper 80% range longer if you need the tool to be at it's best longer. However for the at home DIYer the 2 2AH batteries is often better as they tend to not need the tool to be as powerful but just want the tool to drive a few screws / lag bolts. You will get more done on a single 4 AH battery than you will on 2 2 AH batteries by something around 30 %.
Check your local Lowes, this version of the freak is on clearance for $119 (August 2021). It has the Core 18 4Ah battery and the mode selection buttons. Saw it in South Jersey.
I’m currently on the craftsman platform for my company as a start up I’m looking to switch platforms craftsman is unreliable and their customer service sucks. I have the Bosch measurement tools currently and the Bosch 12v platform which is an amazing platform. I’m hesitant about the 18v Bosch platform because it’s limited on tools unlike DEWALT or Milwaukee. What’s everybody’s opinion I’m stuck lol.
I am a contractor and use a lot of Bosch tools. The Core 18 battery platform is spot on. Long life, good power, charges well, doesn't really heat up. I have only once had to use the warranty, and it went as well as you could hope as a tool owner- dropped it off at the local service center, and within a few days got a call to pick up the tool. No hassle, no cost to me. Some of my teammates are Dewalt guys, and I'd put my tools up against theirs any day. As to your point about breadth of offering, you are right. It would be nice to reach for the 18V palm sander, or router, but Bosch doesn't have those. They do, however, have remarkable dust control systems for their concrete boring tools. So, to throw in my 2 cents, the things Bosch does, are well done. They just don't do as much as some of the other vendors. You can put together a respectable cordless power package and augment it with corded power and for most trades have no problems. Plumbers should definately steer clear, though, as there are no tubing cutters, press tools and the like. I suppose the "what brand to buy" question will bring answers as varied as the "van or truck" debate.
Damn I got the -1600 model but I do like it out of the box. It is my first impact and has handled my situations with ease so far. Love that it has a light, which is pretty damn bright when you squeeze the trigger. Went to Home Depot and got it for under $90 brand new because they still had sale price and I talked with manager they gave me a few bucks off also. Win win for me!
@@luisanaya9327 I have the old freak and am not a fan of their friction ring in that it doesnt retain sockets on the anvil all that well. did they end up fixing that issue on the newer model?

I use this as both a general purpose driver and my lug nut wrench for tire changes... haha... my lug nut specs are 129 ft-lbs and it takes them off no problem... don't even need a breaker bar.
All my tools are bosch, I upgraded from the freak before this one I've got about 10 bosch batteries already, but I would prefer 1 x 4 ah when buying (in the uk we don't know of it as the freak) This is slightly smaller than the previous model, very good impact driver and handles really well. In the uk we know it as having 200 nm of torque, it's mot in 1bs per inch. The 32v bosch sds is a real beast, I couldn't do without it, bosch customer service is very good too, under the 3 year warranty, they will send a courier to your house or jobsite to pick up a tool, take it away and bring it back when it's done.
I've got the original freak (got it on sale for about $40 with the battery) and I'm blown away by all the upgrades on the new one. Mine doesnt have any settings and is 1600 in lbs. Also, I'd prefer a 4ah battery because I already have several 2 ah batteries
Watch out there are 2 almost identical Bosch "FREAK" impacts at the Box Stores, gdx18v-1600 (only 1600 in-lbs) vs gdx18v-1800 with 1800 in-lbs. Both replace the original FREAK model IDH182.
lowes has the bosch bulldog cordless sds hammer drill kit (battery + charger + Drill) for 200 and when you add it to cart you get the dust extractor attachment and another battery for free. crazy deal. Other similar setups are around $500-700
The torque output increased from 1650 in-lbs to 1800. I dont remember getting a rapid charger with my kit either. Also i paid 260 for mine (menards), but i received 2 2 A hr batteries
1 4ah battery is more energy better power distribution then three 2ah batteries. It's a good choice just like their choice to use 21700 cells over 18650 cells. $144 on Amazon is solid deal. The battery alone is $98. Good video brother rock on
I noticed that the bosch idh182 (old freak) has a lot less play with inserted bits compared to the gen 3 m18 fuel and surge impacts. How is the socket retention on the upgraded impact (especially the larger deep sockets)?
That's a neat idea. Not super heavy duty though. Looks like the anvil is weaker from the hole in the middle...But it probably doesn't have enough power to break the anvil so not a big deal. If I wasn't invested in another battery tool I might look at the Bosch tools.
Bosch Is One of the Best and Most Quality Brand Of Tools For Construction Tools or Ceramic Tile can cost you around $600 but it's worth it . Everyone Loves Quality but it's also More Expensive but it's worth because you will get Quality for your money
I just got home from a trip to Lowes, picked up the Freak 1800CD12, includes a 2hr battery, not 4hr, the online price was $159 but I was rung up at $99 plus tax, heck the charger and battery is almost that amount alone.
I have the same drill but somehow it’s not gripping my bit anymore you know how it supposed to clamp and lock in place. It now slides out place with no grip action leaving to fall on ground..like what tha heck!
I only use 2 A hr batteries these days, they charge in half an hour and they last pretty well. Also if I need to replace them save a few quid. I use Stanley fatmax for my drill and impact driver. Had my drill for 4 years and it just keeps going, looks a bit battered but its survived some bruising lol
I would much prefer the bare tool option to the question as posed. I don't want to pay for a new charger with every tool I buy. I dont want to pay for a bag/box with every tool I buy. I am a contractor, and a Bosch guy. I have a respectable variety of the 18V tools. I much prefer the higher amperage ratings, but the 4.0 Core18 offers good power at a great weight, in a slim package. I have nothing but good things to say about the Core18 batteries. From personal experience, I can't think of a single day on the job where I have run out of power, with normal usage, while starting with a full battery.

I've been using DeWalt for years but if I was to start all over again I think I'd go with Milwaukee! Even the little 12v drill and driver are great! Just my thoughts, good luck!
Bought this the other day in 2021 for $99. Was looking to replace the battery on a Makita, but got this instead. It gets the job done. On the fence about the bottom LED light and mine does not have the power adjust button but came with all the other stuff. OK for now.
Very cool tool! Two tools in one.... I live in Germany, and here the most trader sells Bosch and Makita. Both are very cool, but i thing Milwaukee is also very cool!
Bosch has a good idea but it seems they went about it wrong. 1: I feel the tool for one needs to have more power if you are going to put a 1/2” drive on it other wise it’s s useless 1/2”. 2: it should have a selector for 1/2 or 1/4” changing the power range. Getting a good power boost while in 1/2” mode. 3: it should still have a three position power mode for the 1/4” and 1/2” mode. Then hi would have had a awesome tool.
I want this impact bad but I already have 10 18 volt Makita batteries. I think this tool would be good for valve covers on big trucks with the 1/4 adapter. Then you can swap over to the anvil and get more power.
@toolhead 147 4 amp hour Core weighs 1.15lbs 2 amp hour .75lbs .4lbs or 6.4oz is the difference Core 20700 4.6oz per amp hour Traditional 18650 6oz per amp hour All depends on how you want to look at it.😉
I have both the new one and the older one from about a year ago, the older one seems to have more power then the newer core one. But both seem to be good to me.
So, I do not understand whats the advantage of a tip thats just one size opposed to the drills that have 3 teeth that will adapt to anything. Can anyone please let me know?
This thing is so cool! Would definitely be a go to for me in automotive work. I'm not in the Bosch platform and won't switch just for this, but it's pretty cool. I was thinking just before watching your TTR with The Freak that it should be possible to make an anvil that takes sockets and hex bits like this. Well to my surprise, there it was! Thanks for keeping us up to date, Vince and the Very Cool Gang. Great band name by the way. ;)
@vcgconstruction Hey guys! I will be uploading a video, family friendly, showcasing my Milwaukee tools, in the next few days. Would you mind promoting it on your channel after having reviewing it yourself? I'd greatly appreciate it!
First Bosch cordless, 2 2 amp. Unless I plan on buying others real quick. Already have other batteries 4 amp. But normally I buy bare tool if I already have some.
So now what impact should I get!? Damn! I’m looking for a set, general work nothing daily but i also don’t want no POS when I DO need to get things done. Anyone? Help a guy out
2 2ah would be better. It's simple math. When your single 4ah dies you stop to charge it = you stop working = you lose money. With 2 2ah, you can alternate batteries and never have to stop working

2: it should have a selector for 1/2 or 1/4” changing the power range. Getting a good power boost while in 1/2” mode.
3: it should still have a three position power mode for the 1/4” and 1/2” mode.
Then hi would have had a awesome tool.
Yeah the torque just doesn't seem up to snuff for applications where'd you would need a 1/2" drive. Maybe a 3/8" drive, but not 1/2"
I want this impact bad but I already have 10 18 volt Makita batteries. I think this tool would be good for valve covers on big trucks with the 1/4 adapter. Then you can swap over to the anvil and get more power.
Great video Vince and Ill take the two batteries hate just having one
Yoooo Chuck how you been Cuz?
Been busy quit my job in July and started my own handyman business. Working late nights so can’t watch the live streams
Hi pal what do you think about total power tools
I got the original freak with 2 6.3 ah core batteries with bag and all for 180. In 2017.
“Look at that fit!”
Why does that remind me of Gun Jesus’ showcasing of the Korth Semi-Auto? 😂
Maybe they included a 4ah because of its impact function. Definitely would have a 4ah for power and a 2ah for all day use easier on the arm.
@toolhead 147
4 amp hour Core weighs 1.15lbs
2 amp hour .75lbs
.4lbs or 6.4oz is the difference
Core 20700 4.6oz per amp hour
Traditional 18650 6oz per amp hour
All depends on how you want to look at it.😉
I have both the new one and the older one from about a year ago, the older one seems to have more power then the newer core one. But both seem to be good to me.
I've got that thing, it rocks
I like it a lot!!
Is this the same model marketed in South East Asia as Bosch GDX 18Li Professional ?
I seen something similar to this at Lowe's for $79 but I can't get any actual impact specs out of it to use it as a impact wrench.
1600 is 100 . The one he is showing is the big boy 1800
I got lot Bosch tool I don't have any complaints I'm still have tools from 9 years and the battery still keeps the charging
If you want more power/torque in your tool use higher capacity batteries. Bigger batteries also last longer
So, I do not understand whats the advantage of a tip thats just one size opposed to the drills that have 3 teeth that will adapt to anything. Can anyone please let me know?
Lowes has them for $79. I picked up one today for $69.00. Good tool
You get 1 4 hour battery to make sure you get a 'break' at 4 hours. Thanks Bosch....looking out for your workers
Thats not how amp hour ratings works
I got the idh freak version1 😆 the ability to use bits and sockets and the compact made it the best choice
I am already into the Bosch platform, so I prefer a single 4.0 ah battery.
Great band name by the way. ;)
This is a buy one get one tool! A lot of work can get done with this tool! Thanks for all the feedback 802 we appreciate it!
Hey its scotty kilmer folks!
I can tell next year other brands will make similar impact. 🤔
Bosch have the patent
@vcgconstruction Hey guys! I will be uploading a video, family friendly, showcasing my Milwaukee tools, in the next few days. Would you mind promoting it on your channel after having reviewing it yourself? I'd greatly appreciate it!
What up Magic man?
This is amazing if you’re into HVACR. The two 2 2hr amp would be better than 1 4 but it’s all good
First Bosch cordless, 2 2 amp. Unless I plan on buying others real quick. Already have other batteries 4 amp. But normally I buy bare tool if I already have some.
That was a good review that freak could give Milwaukee a run for its money. Especially at the price.
Not really ......after you have read comment from Mark Marlow...
I like the concept
So now what impact should I get!? Damn! I’m looking for a set, general work nothing daily but i also don’t want no POS when I DO need to get things done. Anyone? Help a guy out
2 2ah would be better.
It's simple math.
When your single 4ah dies you stop to charge it = you stop working = you lose money.
With 2 2ah, you can alternate batteries and never have to stop working
Great contender ... Bosch needs to increase warranty. stand up for the product
The bosch tools I've got have a 6 year warranty...
@@edenatkins7007 Thanks that's good to know. I have several Bosch tools, including a beast reciprocating saw. Bosch repaired and replaced the entire chuck for free even though the tool was out of warranty 'cause they sat on it for 5 months. But still, that is good service.
