Alternatively, the combi drill competently drove the long screws without deforming them. The impact driver seems more suited for bolts and lag screws. The stupid thing is an impact driver is all about torque….yet has no calibrated torque number settings or scale readout for you. Genuinely interesting. I had noticed that the Impact Driver made a lot of fuss over long screws, 'more on withdrawal that insertion'. Maybe 80mm is about the max appropriate length for my machine. And I had wondered why the Impact Driver seemed so light to use, aside from the weight and size difference; it's the lack of torque on the wrist that makes the difference, thank you for explaining that. Yes the Impact driver does not have a torque setting but after placing the first couple of screws with caution, one can easily 'work by ear'. I love my little machine, it's a godsend, fast and light. In the US, we rarely use the term “impact drill”, instead we use “hammer drill”, less confusion. However, there is still some confusion between “impact driver” and “impact wrench”. Have had my impact driver for a few months and it’s been great. However over the last week I have been building a shed and it has been great. Has made easy work of the big screws but also allows quite fine control to get the head perfectly flush when required.
Fantastic demonstration! This is exactly the video I've been looking for. I was wondering how the hammer system was supposed to work once beginning to come in action. I didn't understand how about the "back motion" against the spring was possible until I saw your system. I couldn't see how it would not just simply block and stop turning. THANK YOU !!!
I picked up a 5 piece combo kit today as it was an excellent way to get into Bosch Blue. I have eight Bosch Green power tools that use the 18V Power4All which I love, but some of them run out of steam in some situations. The angle grinder especially, but I also had a need for a much more powerful drill to drive garden augers. Anyway, it seems that I did not properly appreciate what I was getting, and probably did not fully appreciate the tools I already own, because I have learned heaps from this video. For what it is worth, I also own a Bosch Blue corded angle grinder that gets lots of use, and that I love, and more recently I bought a Bosch 1600CE router with plunge and fixed bases, and that I _really_ love. It has had some seriously heavy use and barely got got warm. On the down side I have it table mounted using the fixed base, and that is not as successful as say, a Triton TRA001 which is a dream to use table mounted. I have also seen what looked like a reference to some of these tools working with an app via wireless or Bluetooth. If I have got that right, I had no idea they had that feature so I shall now try and track that down, or maybe even read the flipping manual ;-)
I bought a combo package recently with GDSR-190 & GDR 1400. All positive, from having a tool to drill pilot holes then the other has the bit needed for screwing, set & ready to go. Second, would be buying the combo gave me two batteries, plus the heavy duty canvas bag (way better than hard cases). Yes, they charge fast, but having two is better. 1st Bosch tools I have purchased & only cordless tools I own. After swearing I would never buy cordless again, just overall bad experiences. Only issue was the learning curve for the impact, broken cheap screws and over-tightening, takes a little getting used to. All good now and will be sticking with Bosch for my tools when and if I need to replace something.
In short, the impact driver is faster, safer and much more effortless because of the force offered by the tool. Thank you so much for this amazing and I must say educational video @Toolstop!
Eric is always worth watching. But I don't see anyone getting hold of the one of the main benefits he mentioned: no reactive torque. If you've ever had an injury from reactive torque you'll understand how much that's worth. And how great it is not to have to fight all the time. Another thing is less cam-out on screws. The radial force seems to help keep the bit seated in the screw. Plus, all that power is intoxicating.
Super video. Really well presented and very educational. Appreciate the comparison between impact driver and drill driver, use both for roofing and found no huge difference until the fasteners become larger.

Very good explanation, and very clear to understand, so thanks.
Best explanation of how an impact driver works! Thx a lot, well done and good job!
This is a great explanation of the different tools and what they are for. Very clear.
The best explanation I have found after few days of search. Annnndddd... finally I can understand! My appreciation. Thank you very much.
An excellent example of good information presented by a man who knows his stuff. That chuck playing up though lol, power it open and closed, sorted.
This video is brilliant! Never knew the difference between machines so really opened my eyes.
Top notch video... brought me up to date! Thanks.
No Axe
In short, the impact driver is faster, safer and much more effortless because of the force offered by the tool.
Thank you so much for this amazing and I must say educational video @Toolstop!
We are glad you enjoyed it. We love to upload high quality informative videos for our subscribers so always look out for the latest Toolstop videos
Thank you for the great explanations. Now, I think I need to buy both of them 😆
My congratulations sir, this is an excellent educational video. Now i know how my machines exactly work.
Thank you for so eloquently explaining the difference. Very informative.
Best drill/driver/wrench comparison video on the internet! 👍
Thank you for accurate and exact information. By chance I bought one of each from Boch a few days ago!
Interesting. Just found this, and actually learned a lot in 14 minutes.
Finally someone who tells the difference
Thank you, Eric, that was fascinating.
Glad our video was helpful. Thanks for watching! We have a lot more informational and demo videos with Eric on our channel. He sure knows his stuff 🤓
Very helpful, can't believe i listen to every word till the end... Very precise explanations
just tried to buy the bosch freak model the wrnech that also has an impact driver combo! iguess I will see how well it works!
Really useful, I don’t think I’d survive without my impact driver now....great content and thanks for sharing 👍
Nice demonstration of how an impact driver works.
The best one took away all my confusion
Thanks for watching! It's always good to hear that we've helped a viewer out with one of our videos
Great explanation, thank you. Now, let's start selling those beautiful green tools in the background in NA.
Very good explanation. Thumbs up!
It is the most precise, to the point explanation I've seen.
Thanks for the video..
The new makita ones have torque settings :) pretty handy as well as the speed control thingy, i found works excellent
Yes, well, Makita are Japanese. I have a Japanese car and Japanese knives. Far superior.
good explanation ...Impact driver or impact wrench are the same but different chuck
Excellent explanation of those tools of which I had no idea, It's a lot clearer now. Thank you very much.
Super video. Really well presented and very educational. Appreciate the comparison between impact driver and drill driver, use both for roofing and found no huge difference until the fasteners become larger.
