And yeah I am tracking the "free" version not working for some and it is for others. They might have also made it free again on accident or it might be region locked. So much research and just found you video thinking it could help.
    My Gopro11 films in H265, 10Bit
    I have the free version of Davinchi Resolve 18.1 and about 12 months ago I ran into the "Media Offline" issue and installed the paid HEVC codec and it fixed the problem in Windows 10
    UNTIL TODAY!
    I only edited a video 5 days ago using this Gopro footage and all was fine, But today, it's gone back to "Media Offline".
    The HECV codec is still installed and we even reset based on other advice, but not working yet.
    We have even tried to install the FREE HEVC codec again and Microsoft was coming up with the warning that it's not compatible for this computer.
    The only changes to this computer seems to be a standard window update and after deleting that, we got the windows explorer preview back, but still won't work in DaVinchi!
    PLEASE HELP😪
    On another note: I have another Windows 10 computer, Davinchi 17 and the HECV codec installed and these H265 & 10 Bit Gopro video seem to work fine, But it's on a laptop and it's not powerful enough to edit and complete videos anymore

      I'm curious if one of the updates broke Resolve being able to work on 10 bit. Resolve Studio should be able to do it but I don't know that you'd want to buy it. Any chance you want to run a test and export some of the video as H.264? You can do that with Handbrake (handbrake.fr). Do that and re-import into resolve to see if Resolve can process H.264. That should let us know if it's a specific thing with Resolve and H.265/HEVC. I'm also curious of something about the video got corrupted. Try to open the videos in a different editor or program (such as VLC). If it opens elsewhere, it "should" be good.... Please update me here on what you find in case others have similar issues. =)

    Good afternoon. We really need your help. Windows player does not play video with h265 codec. And in Davinci only the audio track is played. I bought this codec from the Microsoft store. And after installation, videos with this codec began to be played only from the iPhone. But with Canon log video in this codec, the player gives an error of incorrect video format, and in Davinci it also continues to play only the Audio track.
    I watched a lot of videos with a solution to this problem. Installing this codec helps everyone. But it didn’t help me. What do you think could be the reason?
    My PC:
    Intel core i5 12600k
    Asus GeForce Rtx 3060 Dual 12288mb
    Ddr4 32Gb
    Ssd 2 Tb

      @DungeonsAndDiving  22 дня назад +1

      Hey I got an idea about this... check how many bits you're recording video in for your Canon Log. If you're in 8-bit color, we should look deeper. If you're in 10-bit (which I suspect), I believe (I could be wrong) DaVinci FREE version is your limitation and doesn't fully support 10-bit videos. You'll have a couple of options... 1. Buy the paid version. 2. Use a different editor. 3. Use a tool like Handbrake (handbrake.fr) to convert the 10 bit video to 8 bit. **IF** you choose option 3, you're going to lose color information. If that's not a big deal, it is free but will require you to spend the time converting the videos.
      Let me know what you choose so we can share that info with others that might also run into this issue!! Annddd... If you haven't, would you mind giving the video a subscription to help others find this information? If not, no worries.

    • @DungeonsAndDiving

      That's really weird that MS would stop someone from buying things just because you're in the UK. This package might be locked but you can search the store for it and see if a different one is available in the UK. Otherwise you can use Handbrake (free at handbrake.fr) to convert to H.264 until you get a better solution.

      Before getting into options, can you tell me if you have audio playing when opening inside of Resolve?
      For possible options:
      I'd start by uninstalling both Resolve and HEVC. Then install HEVC first, resolve second. Sometimes it doesn't seem to register the HEVC codec if done in the opposite order. Then check if it opens up properly.
      Second, grab VLC and ensure the video opens up in VLC. It has its own codec but can't share it with other apps.
      Last option would be to grab Handbrake and convert from H265 to H264, then edit the H264 video.

      @@DungeonsAndDiving I'm on a Winndows 10 system with a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. The file is a .MP4 and should be a H.265 if my research is correct. I'm getting the unsupported message in both the media player and Movies and TV apps on my system. • @DungeonsAndDiving

      @@ajstacey723 Ok so to verify the media... open it in VLC and press CTRL-I (that's i as in igloo) then click on the CODEC tab. It should show you in Stream 0 what the codec is.
      You could try to uninstall the HEVC codec and Resolve.. then reinstall (in order) the codec and then resolve. I've found that sometimes Resolve just didn't realize it could handle it.
      As a last resort (and more time consuming) you could try to convert the video from HEVC/H.265 to H.264 using Handbrake(handbrake.fr). It's free.. but you have to wait for the conversion before you can edit the resulting video file. BUT it should work and get you editing... just takes more time, which is what I was trying help you guys all avoid... cuz no sense in wasting time!

      @DungeonsAndDiving  Год назад +1

      Did you install the HEVC codec from the windows store? If you're using what came with the sony, it might not be registered to where Resolve can access it. If you ARE using the store version... try uninstalling and reinstalling Resolve. Other people said that worked for them.

    • @GrapeSoda1515
      @GrapeSoda1515 Год назад +1

      @@DungeonsAndDiving yes I am using the windows store version and I also reinstalled Davinci to no avail, I’m going to get my hands on the studio version of davinci as I looked at the supported codecs and it mentions that on windows H.265 can only be supported with the studio version of davinci, I was able to test it on a Mac with the free version of davinci in which case it worked completely fine

    • @DungeonsAndDiving
      @DungeonsAndDiving  Год назад +2

      @@GrapeSoda1515 I promise you that the FREE Windows HEVC can be used with the FREE version of Resolve. I'm not saying to "not get " Studio if you're going to use the extra features... just don't let the "supported codecs" info fool you. It only means that it supports it right out of the box without any extra setup.
      The fact that it works on your mac tells me that it's not a corruption issue (which is good!!). The reason it works there is that Apple provides an HEVC codec whereas it doesn't come with Windows by default... assuming that's to do with many older and non-compatible PC's running newer windows versions and would have issues with the HEVC codec.
      If you wanted to avoid the $295 pricetag, you could also convert the whole video with Handbrake (handbrake.fr) which is a handy AND FREE conversion tool. The only thing is I think it's limited to 8-bit colors so if that's a show stopper, then ignore this suggestion.
      Let me know if you end up figuring it out so I can share it here as well... or if you just go with Studio. I'm not a pro-editor so I stick with the free stuff... but info is free to share. =)

      cd C:\Windows\WinSxS\

      net stop wuauserv

    rip the free version doesn't work for me it just tells me it is not compatible with my device and there is no install button. I have a R5 2600 and a 3060. Guess even microsoft is making people buy microtransactions now to edit our own videos. So ridiculous.

    • @DungeonsAndDiving
      @DungeonsAndDiving  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, so the problem is that MS doesn't actually own the codec. They license it from MPEGLA and have to pay royalties to them. Stinks they locked up the free version but $1 isn't a whole lot when it means not having to waste time converting to H.264 and then editing. If you haven't, would you mind giving the video a subscription to help others find this information? If not, no worries. Glad I could help you out and happy editing!

    • @DungeonsAndDiving
      @DungeonsAndDiving  Год назад +2

      Apple has its own HEVC codec that should already come with your computer if it's new-ish™. BUT it depends on how old your mac is.
      Also, have you tried to view the videos in other apps (VLC?) or different devices? This would ensure the file isn't corrupted at all. If mp4's are interrupted before finalizing the save, the entire file can be corrupted.
      Check this article and compare your mac to what the req'ed specs are.

      Happy to help! I did a quick search for what I suspected... looks like CLog3 uses 10-bit colors, which isn't supported by the free version of Resolve (and I would assume WMP as well). You have a couple options... pay for the full version of resolve, use a different editor, or convert to 8-bit colors (try Handbrake.fr... it can handle 10 and 12 bit colors).
