Joni, to me at this point in her life, is the most attractive, witty, funny, brilliant, kind, insightful, beautiful & warm. I truly love this stranger I know so well!❤
This is such a wonderful intimate window into Joni. She's so joyful and comfortable with her hometown folk in this video. I am grateful it was recorded and posted. Thank you!
This woman's powerful lifeforce, elegance, honesty, and talent just blaze through this entire interview. The complexity of her multi-layered psyche can't be contained within any known, standard paradigm. People like this whose spirit and talent come here from another place appear rarely in every generation. That's what people just instinctually respond to - her transcendent capacity to speak from soul to soul.
The best interview questions ever presented to Joni. Hands down. I am grateful for this posting. She is so beautiful here, so thoughtful and articulate. Thank you
BEST interview I have ever seen her do! Thank you so much for making this available! For me, this interview reveals the real Joni UNPLUGGED sharp, funny, fast and honest as always as. Know she hated interviews and was always guarded, as some questions so stupid or meant to be too nosey. But here it seems ALL her experiences & maturity delightfully triumphed the day 💕💕💕
Joni Mitchell tells it like it is.....and sometimes it makes us mad and sometimes it makes us cry. I love music that makes me feel alive. Thank you Joni.
David Edwards: I hear ya bro..since I heard A Case of You on the radio in 1971. What a brave & wonderful genius. This interview was especially interesting because she's in her hometown element, friends & family present. She's happy, joking, unguarded. Blessings to all you fellow Joni lovers!
I am in awe, her words hit my blood stream without fail. What a blessing Joni has given us in creativity and stability. She has always been my internal rock!
Reading the comments down below how anyone could dismiss Joni as an overrated songwriter or guitar player is just beyond me.But it really does not really matter because millions of people all over the world including many great musicians have been listening and been inspired by her music for decades now.She gets right down into people's souls and she has helped many people make sense of their own inner lives. She has touched millions with her artistry and her painting which look incredible as well although we mostly have only ever got to see what is on album covers.
I know most women do not like aging but it has to be said Joni is beautiful. She still creates music as as well as when she started out .Thank you for all the years of enjoying great music .
WONDERFUL interview/video I am amazed at the artists that come from Canada....some of l my favorites...Oscar Peterson, Maynard Ferguson, Gordon Lightfoot, Don Ross, and this incredible lady who wrote the soundtrack for much of my last 5 decades ....You are the best!!
The most magical female artist of her generation. For all music, for fact.No one can repeat her concept in music and lyrics.Time less ageless, and most beautiful woman and soul,Personality abounds in as Graham Nash says,Our Joan!
I don't think I've enjoyed, laughed, or been inspired by an interview as much as I have with this. Joni Mitchell is not just an incredibly talented and rounded artist, but she is a sincere and enjoyable and highly intelligent conversationalist. But what really makes her shine is her authenticity, coupled with a wit and sense of humor that is as natural as everything else she does. Over the years I've read various interviews with her and unfortunately the written page does not do her justice. You have to experience her in conversation. The things she talks of, and her concerns for various situations in life, are serious, and she doesn't mince words. However, on the page it comes across as stern and almost hard to bear but that I see is only because there doesn't seem to a way to translate her personality, her sense of humor, and the way she doesn't seem to take herself that seriously. That is so refreshing, especially from someone of her intelligence, passion, and notoriety. I know I am probably going to say something that I'm sure has been said many times before, but I bet she would be a wonderful person to hang out with, have a couple beers with and have a serious lengthy conversation with that has many twists and turns to it. And that is rather rare these days. So, thanks Joni Mitchell for a lifetime of fantastic music and art, and thank you for your honesty and willingness to share your experiences through your music. Therein lies the true artistry. :)
Everybody has a story. Joni's story music and art speaks to me so loudly. Life is so fragile and goes so fast. Joni has a way of helping me understand life within ! Love how Joni's life can speak to us all in so many ways. Love how REAL she is!
Great interview. So insightful, fun and engaging. Especially as she knew quite a few of the audience as she grew up with them. I love Joni. What a back catalogue. I can't express in words what her songs mean to me. I feel them so deeply.
Joni, you Rock! you have been more real than anyone in the business .....Love you and love your music! to the Canada geese and to you, your chord progression inspired me in my own music and I thank-you! blessings to you
I like the fact that half the people she name drops are people she grew up with. She’s certainly living up to the words of Kipling’s poem, “If”. I’ve also been a songwriter for many years but was always put off by the industry and the mercurial nature of fame. Thus, I’ve never had any success (not financially or in terms of recognition, anyway) but I’ve still enjoyed creating and continue to use art to explore life and humanity in my own way. I feel that, if I could’ve been a successful songwriter, I would’ve wanted to be so in the same spirit as Joni Mitchell. More interesting perhaps (?), I’ve also had prophetic dreams ... but that’s neither here nor there. Thanks for sharing! 🙏
Spirited, genial, extremely talented, eloquent, insightful, witty, amusing, kind, forthright, generous, beautiful, cool. Too many adjectives or not enough?
Since I watch the 2024 Grammys I’ve been so fascinated with Joni, looked her up on Google, found out I’m exactly one day older than her! I’ve been watching everything about her on RUclips! Quite a classy lady!
Just a great interview... I've noticed in the two videos, the other being the "MuchMusic" video, she is more relaxed & comfortable among her fellow Canadians.
I agree, she's so funny and loose, childhood friends and parents in the audience, hair messy :). This might be the best Joni interview, certainly the warmest.
..its interesting that Joni's parents are in the audience..I've often wonderd about Joni's heritage,I wasn't aware she had Irish ancestry, she looks kind of Scandinavian or Dutch,Germanic maybe ...? Its so strange seeing Joni like this so informal and relaxed with people just chatting, its such a nice side of Joni to see and remind ourselves she is a human being, yes a totally extraordinary human being and exceptionally talented in so many respects but none the less human just like us..its easy to think of her as more like goddess than human
To have enough musical understanding to make up your own tunings is in itself impressive. Personally I think she's one of the greatest guitar singer songwriters we have had and her music has always affected me greatly. These greats from the 70s are sadly beginning to die off now. I don't hear any similar replacements coming through. Eg Laura marling is ok but lacks the depth. Joni is also gorgeous, intelligent and classy, an incredible woman.
This did not take place at the Grammys. It took place in Saskatoon. "Joni accepts the glass, dish-like Lifetime Achievement Award from the Saskatchewan Recording Industry Association. After the presentation Joni reveals her inspiration for The Magdalene Laundries. The video takes place at The Willows Golf & Country Club in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada." Her mom and dad are in the first row. She talks to people in the audience that she knew while growing up. A lot of the questions are about growing up in Saskatoon. How anyone would think this at the Grammys is beyond me.
People around the world may not know that Saskatchewan Province, along with most of Manitoba and Alberta provinces on either side of it, is in their southern halves part of the Great Plains of North America, popularly called the "Prairies" in Canada, which is a French-Canadian word for grasslands, given by early explorers. Saskatoon and the provincial capital of Regina are located there. It is a region of huge grain farms. The northern halves of these provinces, mostly unpopulated but rich in minerals, is in the rock, forest, lake and river region called the "Shield", that is where Wakesiu Lake is, where Joni first sang at summer vacations with friends as a teen. If you go to google images for Wakesiu Lake, there is a good photo of it, the classic Canadian scene in many people's minds.
