she's always seemed so comfortable in her own skin and not self conscious with the audience when singing. As in this video, she sang looking right at him a number of times. i think that is rare.
That's something I noticed as well. She's got this ability of connecting with her audience while she's playing that is rare - she makes it feel like you're right in the room with her. A truly authentic individual that always does things her own way.
Some people sit around. We all sit around. Some people contribute. We all contribute. I , in my brief, fragile and strong 63 years never cease to be amazed by this gift given to the world. Thank you, Joni.
I did the sound recording for this show with a Nagra IV-S TC recorder and a Neumann RSM 190 mike in XY stereo setup. Timecode was synced with TC of video recorder.
i would so love to get even a high bit-rate MP3 of your effort. Even this video sounds robust and well-gathered. Cheers to you, Jan. It would be very cool to connect on this.
This interviewer didn't do his homework..Joni didn't change suddenly from the spokewoman for hippies into recording mingus..For the roses, blue, court and spark, hejira, chalk mark in a rain storm, the hissing of summer lawns, don juan's reckless daughter, night ride home, etc., show her steady evolution from folk to pop to rock to jazz..Her intelligence always blew away most interviewers this one more so...
@Jan Wouter I was going to say really good sound on this. Sure, you get a lot of the background, but it is somehow more beautiful like that. Real life, no trick, no autotune, she starts playing her guitar and something happens, she transforms the world around her, making everything part of the story she is so good at telling, the ducks, the kids, the tram. You don't know how much I envy you for having done this shoot, having been there and witness the magic.
love how tramline nr 3, kind of a 'circle line' going around the Amsterdam city center and linking east to west, makes it presence felt by crossing over the Amstel bridge regularly during the interview... for those who have lived in Amsterdam, sitting at a terrace in the summer and spending some extended time, you have this rhythm and low rumble (or high screeching) of the same tramline passing by in regular intervals attached to the Amsterdam outdoor summer experience.. it becomes your 7-8 minute interval rhythm. it was a great idea to film this outdoor - it adds so much to the informality and looseness, space that is offered to Joni stories and music -and informality is a Dutch quality...Amsterdam in summer is just a wonderful informal, romantic loose and happy go lucky experience ! Go and try it for yourself !
Oh Lordy, what a wonderfully conceived opening song - the setting, the excellent audio recording, the camerawork - a marvel and a miracle. Joni leaves me (almost) speechless.
I'm so grateful I was able to listen and experience joni Mitchell ! She paved the way for every female artist in the Biz! Joni is so damn beautiful in this setting!
Exactly my feelings too. Just sitting there, having Joni, an absolute musical Goddess, sing to me - that would be Peak Life, a highlight never to be forgotten. Fortunately, today we have recording techniques, so we can at least pretend to be sitting there.
sitting at her wheal chair Wish I was a saint Strong enough to raise her up To sing again at length How I long to listen Happy at her side Wish to God I knew her well Cherishng her chides Me so all imperfect Her so very wise All because I love her Cuz she is so wise.

Just watched her play "Number One" In love all over again.
Frederick, so deeply framed, verbally. Yes, Joni -- thank you. It's better felt than told.

What hotel are they at ?
There's an authenticity to this recording that matches Joni's performance. Wonderful art.

Damn good job. Thank you!
You did a wonderful job. And thank God it didn't happen today or there would be some a$$hole "influencer" running up and taking a selfie next to her!
Diosa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looked like a beautiful day. Beautiful song and captivating lady ❤❤❤
A genius in her own time. Oh to be there listening live with this Picasso of our time. Her master of the guitar is spellbinding.
I love her so much. She's unsurpassed. Extraordinary.
I do love listening to her express herself in conversation. A Goddess, in all ways.

What a gift she has given to this weary old world.

I agree, the tram in particular adds a cool serendipitous sound to the song- like thunder.

The 20th centuries greatest singing songwriter.
I adore this woman so much. The amount of influence and impact her stellar music has had on me as a young woman is immeasurable.
Great..
I'm not going to tell you what impact she had on me, and my first girlfriend, the Love of my life, back in the early 1980's....
Oh Lordy, what a wonderfully conceived opening song - the setting, the excellent audio recording, the camerawork - a marvel and a miracle. Joni leaves me (almost) speechless.
I really prefer this era of Joni like this, solo. Her guitar parts are so unique and musically/emotionally powerful.
I LOVE this performance - magic!
Thank you for posting. One of the best things on this channel. I prefer this to the album. Love to see a musician really get into it....
magic

An absolute delight ❤
I can't imagine the feelings if I was in that guy's chair. Wow
Exactly my feelings too. Just sitting there, having Joni, an absolute musical Goddess, sing to me - that would be Peak Life, a highlight never to be forgotten. Fortunately, today we have recording techniques, so we can at least pretend to be sitting there.

Thank you for posting this video.. Like so many music fans, I adore this woman. Her albums are an education in musical artistry and human emotion.
I never heard "Nomber One" before. Thanks for sharing.
I have goosebumps just by looking at her, what an aura!
Qué delicia, todo en élla es maravilloso. Joni Mitchrll es una obra de arte de la creación
This upload is pure treasure!
Effortlessly magnificent. My idol.
She's a beautiful human being
Number One...
the most insane guitar part ever
Pure perfection
sitting at her wheal chair
Wish I was a saint
Strong enough to raise her up
To sing again at length
How I long to listen
Happy at her side
Wish to God I knew her well
Cherishng her chides
Me so all imperfect
Her so very wise
All because I love her
Cuz she is so wise.
Aaaaaaaah Joni! Great video!💚
Wonderful!!!
I love this song. It tells the story of a horse's ass. LOL.
Thanks for posting this.
much love..
Bet that lucky guy is still talking out this highlight in his life.

Joni: The roll fell out of rock and roll.
Me: That it!
Wow
14:00 how did her voice and guitar sound so clear outside?
I could say ten things, profound all, about our angel. BUT GOD-DOGGIT, JUST LISTEN TO THAT GUITAR ON THIS ONE, AND ALL IS TOLD.
Shame on the Dynamite-Committee for not awarding Joni Mitchell this years Nobel-Prize in literature.
She is WAY better than His Bobness!!

Is there a bell ringing or is that in my head
At 5:04 there is a bell ringing. It's the warning for the bridge in the background opening. At 6:16 there is a warning bell of a street car.
joe smith I did the sound recording for this show and I can remember this ringing sound when it starts, annoying, but I couldn’t stop the recording.
@@JanWouterStam All the ambient sounds added something cool to the moment, the tram in particular.
@@tuskedbeast Joni in real life...an apparition of pure grace.
What hotel is she at ?
The Amstel Hotel, now called InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam.
Im looking at that free man in Paris clip and thinking that Taylor Swift is a chump compared to her.
I mean, seriously…
