@@AbdelrhmanAdel-gh7ff this is a licensed version of Sinutrain. Nothing special, just a paid version.

Hi, I have an EMCO PC-Mill (upgraded electronics / Windows XP) collecting dust while I'm gathering strength to work on a PP to FreeCAD (I got stuck as it felt like FreeCAD wouldn't support the built-in tool offset/wear-calculations as it is now..). The modern 840D machines have lovely graphical interfaces and other features, and I have a hard time seeing where the line between what a 90's machine can do compared to the modern ones.
I think I'll watch this series without really understanding what it is or if it will help me.
What I really wanted to ask was - is it sane to learn to operate the CNC with using the built in "Cycles" and/or coding while standing at the machine to do simpler operations (flattening, drilling holes..), or should I get the PP done and use it as any other dumb operator? :)

As someone whose entire career revolves around teaching people how to program CNC machines, it's very well worth learning how to program the machine the hard way so you can troubleshoot programs that come out of cam software. It's good to at least have a basic knowledge. This video series is more about building custom user interfaces and not so much about how to program parts, though. Happy machining!

@@TheFeralEngineer Sure, I have nothing against programming the CNC per se, but I'm just wondering whether it's a sane thing to do to use it the machine as a "semi-automatic" mill, if you know what I mean? I don't have a manual mill and it feels like one would oftentimes want one in the garage. Not being a CNC-person, I don't know if this would be a normal thing to do. :D

@@JWAM nah, it usually doesn't pay to try and run a CNC manually unless it's to just take a quick skim pass on something. You don't have the feel like you would on a manual machine

@@TheFeralEngineer gotcha. Do you know if these things support any probing functions (if I were to buy an edge finder)? Otherwise I a thinking of wiring up something that will merely shine on contact and jog to find the edges.

@@JWAM not sure. I gave probing on my machines but they are all aftermarket controls. Look into devices like the haimer 3d taster if you can't find something electronic
