    In the interest of respecting your time, I have plans to try to do 3-7 minute reviews on the Fujifilm lenses I currently own and cover build quality, AF performance, and image quality. Beware these are unscripted and generally one take so expect some incoherent ramblings here and there.
    I'm sorry if I didn't cover every single aspect of a lens but if you have any questions let me know in the comments.

    Great job again my man! Excited to see what else you bring us.

    i liked the build very much, and compact size. but really unsharp even at F2, I noticed that before searching and finding a lot of similar comments. You now and then want to take a F2 closeby portrait... I sold it and have a very sharp 1.4 now.

      Yes I wish I would have tried the 1.4. It's still usable but I know I just don't like the idea of it having the flaw. It maybe rare that I'd need to use it at minimum focus distance but if the shot needs it, and the light is low, it sucks that I know it won't perform well.

    Thanks for the video.
    When I bought an X-Pro2 body, it came with a 23mm f/2 that I planned on selling because I already had a 23mm f/1.4 Fujinon lens and I really did not need another 23mm. However, after I used it for a while, I decided to keep it as a backup lens. Over time, it became my favorite street lens but it was never able to replace my 23mm f/1.4 as my favorite available light lens.

      For street it’s small size and quick focusing is perfect!

    Excellent review. I’m a bit torn in picking up the 23. I have the 16 f 2.8 and the 50 f2. To complete my trinity, I’ve been waiting for the 27 2.8 WR which has been out of stock. I think I might just wait. Thanks for your reviews and channel.

      I used to have the 27mm and absolutely love how small of a package it is. With your other lenses it seems to nestle right in there. I always wished it had an aperture ring from the start since the 1st prototype had it. So glad they added it.

    Nice review! Your 18mm F2 video review brought me here. Like your style and setup. Great samples too. I also have a review video of this lens show casing what it can do. I love it! It's my life jacket when it's rainy.

      Thanks! Yeah I kept this lens around mainly for the weather sealing too once I sold the 35mm f2. I definitely enjoy the small size of it well. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Lonnie, great review. All lenses have weaknesses or trade offs and so many people focus on what a lens cant do, instead of what it can, and l got to say this Fujicron used the way it is intended is a wonderful lens. This can be a great addition to anyone's kit without paying a lot of money and it isn't a million miles away from its big 1.4 brother (older model) in terms of image quality, except up close . The x100v also has a slightly better lens than this F2 but is expensive. Bottom line - if you just want a small discreet interchangeable lens for street or travel photography this could be a great choice. I own this lens and have a soft spot for it. It has its own charm. Later down the road I would like to add a used Fuji X Pro camera. I think that would be a great shooting experience with this lens.

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  2 года назад +1

      Yes I think the trade off is well worth it given the size and weight. Pairs beautifully with the X pro bodies!

    Excellent work you are doing here man, subscribed, keep it up. We need more real world reviews without pixel-peeping. Well done. I used the big brother 23/1.4 for some time, better bokeh but really chunky and heavy. Made my X-E2 with the 23/1.4 heavier than my M9 plus Summicron 35, that kind of sucked, so size & weight add up here for the Fuji-X system with this 23/2.

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  2 года назад

      Thank you! Yes I think that Fuji does a great job in keeping small and light options available. It kind of makes them unique these days outside of Leica

    • @mignav464
      @mignav464 2 года назад

      Agreed 100%. The only other system that I keep finding myself picking it up occasionally is Canon EOS M. Lighter than Fuji still, because they skip the use of metal constructions. But that lens selection... They are missing out on everything wider than 35mm FF equiv. in their primes, and that is annoying.

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  2 года назад

      Oh yes I’ve never used a Canon M body before. It’s a shame they have splintered their lens mount so much as I wish it made sense for them to continue developing down that path. As is, I can’t see them investing much more into the mount over RF.

    Hi Lonnie. I use this lens (among other Fuji Primes and two Samyangs) on my X Pro 3 and I can confirm every word you say !! Again a Rev to the point !

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  2 года назад

      Thank you! Which Samsungs do you have?

    • @horntv5039
      @horntv5039 2 года назад

      @@Lonnie.G I use a Samyang 1:1,2 35 mm and 1:2 135 mm. So, calculated on a full format basis it is a 50 and a 2hundred something. Both a manual focus, because I use them for really slow work. The 35 works quite well with the Focus peaking, the 135 is rather complicated. But As I said: Slowwwwly.

    • @horntv5039
      @horntv5039 2 года назад

      And one more thing: It appears to me that many people use certain lenses for purposes, they were never be constructed for. So, what can I expect from a really cheap 23 Fuji Prime for that price ? High Class open aperture performance ? This thing is perfect for everyday use, is is weathersealed and come on, 2,8 upwards it is very good. If you want to go the Max: The Company is called Leica, based here in Germany. No Autofocus, no weather sealing, a perfect build body, which you have to practice with, till your eyes bleed. And the main thing: They maybe make your pics technically better. Thats it. A shitty picture remains a shitty picture, no matter which shooter you use.

    Good review. Not every lens has to be hygienically tack sharp. I feel many modern lens have this look and unfortunately for that no other characteristics, unlike some vintage classics

  • @vitero5745
    @vitero5745 3 года назад +1

    That hazy look kinda kills it. I was on the fence of either this or a x100 but i think the x100 is just better, even if it's for a premium

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  3 года назад

      Yeah I’m usually not too into pixel peeping once I determine a lens is “good enough” for me but I couldn’t ignore this point. The x100v will likely be in my kit once the used prices are around $900. Glad I could help you with your decision. Thanks for watching!

  • @joshuarothman

    Nice review. I totally agree with all your points. I like the convenience of this lens, but prefer the images from the X100V. I’ll probably be selling my 23/2 to help fund a copy of the new 23/1.4.

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  3 года назад

      Yes I think the x100 series, and the x100v in particular, is more enticing to shoot with. More compact, sharper (x100v), and also weather sealed (x100v). I haven’t checked out any initial impressions of the new 23 yet but people always raves about the original so I’m sure it’ll be great!

    Good review ,only one thing for this lens which people takes as negative is a fact that is not designed for minimum focus distance.If you want to shoot close up get macro or 16,18 f1.4 lens or stop down 23 to f4.

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  2 года назад +1

      Yeah if the lens was more expensive I would think it’s more of an issue. If you spend a lot of money you want a lens to perform all the way around; however, given the price and size I think it’s a fair trade off. Though sometimes it’s easy to forget the limitation while out and about. Thanks for watching!

    • @eagleeyephoto8715

      @@Lonnie.G Yep, it is made for street as 35 and 50 too. If you spend lot of money,you can then ask Leica for the special feature called "can't focus under 70cm " and when you do you get second feature for free called "Leica glow".

    I have 18 f2 and 35 f1.4, after I watched so many reviews the field of view of 23 f2 is kinda like 35 in my opinion. But still i really wanna try the 23 due to the hype around the community. What do yo think if i sell my 18 and go for 23 f2?

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  2 года назад +1

      I can’t say for sure which would fit your personal needs - but for me personally I would keep the 18. I think it pairs well with the 35mm but at the same time I love the field of view that the 18 offers. My take is that the 18 and 35 are a great combo but if I had to go down to one lens I think that the 23 would be more versatile.

    Is the haziness at minimum focussing distance exhibited just at f2 of are all apertures affected?

    • @Lonnie.G
      @Lonnie.G  3 года назад +1

      That’s a great question. It’s occurs wide open. Stopping down a bit, especially to f4, clears it all the way up. I wish I would have covered that - thanks for the question!
