Enjoyed the conversation. I started travelling perpetually last June and brought a full frame mirrorless system with me. I have only two lenses, a 24-70mm f4 and 35mm 1.8, to avoid getting bogged down. My photography consists mostly of street with some landscape mixed in. I find I'm shooting in around the 35mm equivalent focal length most of the time for the reasons you mention. Lately, I have been seriously thinking about downsizing to an x100V and leaving the full frame system behind to lighten my load and to be more discreet. My current system seems to draw a lot of attention. My only hesitation is that I sometimes like to go a little wider and I will miss the flexibility of interchangable lenses. I was happy to find this comparison. It helps a lot with the thinking process. The x100v seems almost perfect for my needs with the exception the fixed lens. Now, if only I can find an x100v. Never in stock :)

Call me crazy but I actually like a bit of soft or character to a lens. Especially today in 2023, people are way too obsessed with super sharp lenses and too many have zero character to them. Great video and review!

The end result of the image is what matters, I couldn’t care less about having a bit longer or wider lens.
I picked up the 18 1.4 instead of the 23 1.4, only because I can do architecture and street at the same time with that lens. It’s so sharp that I can always crop if needed. 🖖

I just ordered the 23mm 1.4 but went with the older model, love the smaller versions Vs the larger version and how it just has more character, I will be mounting it to my X-Pro3. I did order the square lens hood for it as well. Nice video here by the way. 👍🏼👍🏼

I agree with Keith, 35mm is better than the 50 as I also wanna add background to my subject. Love seeing both of you in a video! Please do more! Hopefully one day I can join in too! Thanks for sharing!

Excellent video! Agreed on all of the points. I think I´ll go for the 18mm f1,4 as I´m tired of waiting for the new 23mm f1,4 to hit the shelves :) The version I is still a very nice lens but it´s beginning to show its age.

Love the format of this videos. Which is a more “personal” take on camera and lenses. My favorite camera is the X100V. But I also downgraded from XT4 to the XT30ii because I don’t like the articulating screen and weight. I loved the old 16 F1.4, 23 F1.4, but I never use the 56 F1.4, but now use the 35 F2.0 because of the overall package. These are personal choices that can’t be measured by specs.
And I was very tempted to get the XPro3, but the screen and size was stopping me from taking the plunge. If you haven’t done a video already, maybe do a personal take about using the XPro 3. Share why you guys like it? Thanks 🙏

Thank you for the review, I feel like all the WR 1.4 lens line was made with x-pro and x-t in the head. It not really comfortable with smaller cameras. You might also notice from video that older version have better weight balance mounted on x-pro camera stands still, where x-pro with newer lens version falls on lens edge. So as x-e2s owner I went with older lens.

Great video gentleman. 50mm on my Fujifilm cameras crops out too much of the background for environmental/street photography is most circumstances. I'm sorry I sold my old 23mm 1.4 and started using the 23mm 2.0. For me the images captured by the 23mm 1.4 are magic!

Great lens I used to take for a hike too, so I'd have a 16-35mm on my a7iii then a 50 for more zoom and artsy look which I'd swap out keep it on the way back. Now on the fujifilm system still figuring out out bit may go with my 18mm and a 27mm(40) those being pretty light and compact I believe will be a good choice for either hiking and street.

Hi Ivan & Keith, thanks for a really great and insightful video!! I am a hobbyist currently using an X-Pro2, and do not have a 23mm lens in my kit. Considering the price, would the both of you recommend the 23mm F1.4 WR or the X100V if I could only get one 23mm “lens” 😅? I guess another lens that’s even cheaper would be the Viltrox haha. Thanks guys!!

I had the first f1.4 for a couple of years, but never really fell for it. Tried the 23mm f2 and it is on my x pro 2 for a record amount of time.
I wonder if ever want to buy bigger lenses...

I believe in early 2024 the best 23mm on a budget is the Fuji 23mm 1.4 R (Mk1). The Fuji 23mm 1.4 LM WR is a bit sharper, but not by miles like some will say. Is the Mk2 worth the extra $500 over a used Mk1, that's the question. If you are a pro then you get the Mk2, it's that easy. But for someone buying into Fuji, I think the Mk1 is a better option so you can grab a zoom or another prime with the Extra $500 you save on going with the Mk1.
I just picked up a light used Mk1 to go with my light used XT3. I just cannot see throwing that extra $500 at the same focal length prime for a little sharper of a lens or better AF. I rather use that $500 to get another Fast prime to get closer to a useable system. I will wait for used Mk2's to flood the used market in a few years and grab one at 1/2 price like I did the Mk1.
