And if you make any crazy redstone contraptions with it make sure to send me videos on twitter or instagram!
I'll check them out and share my favorites! :)
i have one thing to say:
*a m a z i n g .*
I hate to be THAT GUY. but I'm going to do it anyway. Please make this work on bedrock edition. Please?
Thanks dude, you actually worked on my suggestion, Amazing vid 🔥🔥
is there a version without the other features?
Do it for Minecraft Bedrock
This is the most incredible mind-boggling creation of all time. I never want to have to try to recreate this… but man I’m glad you did 😄
COMMANDGEEK!!! Myman!!
I can’t believe he didn’t make the stickie variant stickie itself
I remember when you gave a bunch of youtubers custom weapons...best vid ever
Here before 1k likes
Its pretty epic lol
As a redstoner myself I can say that this could be VERY useful. People who make compact doors would love this.
like a 2X2 with 2 pistons(one for closing and one for opening)
Amazing. I don't even want to think about how this works internally. 10 headaches / 10
Took a little break while working on it and didn't understand half of my commands when I came back haha xD
@@McMakistein good
@@McMakistein the crafting recipe of the bending pistons is not working for me, whats the /function
@@McMakistein That means you're a true programmer. That's one of the defining features of a programmer.
@@SnaveSutit who are you replying to?
My mind is split between fearing this abomination and absolutely loving the new possibilities it brings to the table.
It looks so cursed, but its potential is fascinating
As a programmer I physically felt pain when I saw it was done with data pack scripting and not java. Kudos to you for pulling it off.
Mumbo Jumbo should play around with this
Edit: i know he did please stop responding
Agreed
Agreeeeeeee
AGREEculture
The ultimate collab
No more double piston extender YeY
i just realised that you could basicly make the old windows 95/98 3D pipe screensaver but with pistons with that datapack. XD
Amazing idea! Someone should get on that asap! ^^
@@McMakistein heheh ^^
This is such a good concept. Like imagine having honey blocks and setting up a transport system of some kind via 1 piston. Would be some great builds etc that could be made.
From trying to work with pistons myself a while ago I can say it's not easy! Probs to you for actually getting it to work so smoothly!
Honestly I'd give my right arm for these to be added to the game for real, they'd simplify so many contraptions in such an elegant and refreshing way
This is really really cool! Can't wait for mumbo to see this.

Haven't touched Minecraft in a while, but this looks amazing! Though it does look like larger constructs would take quite a performance hit :D
Yep. Each of the segments is an entity, so it would cause quite a performance hit if you had enough segments.
You're gonna like the video I have ready for tomorrow xD
@@McMakistein Tomorrow already? Sounds exciting ^^
@@nikkiofthevalley maybe it is possible to use not stands?
@@archniki_ No, it isn't. It's just how you do this sort of thing, you have to use an entity, and armorstands are the most convenient, and also the least laggy because they have no AI behaviors.
Finally you post less than a week and a month
Haha, I know right! ^^
Those datapacks unfortunately take forever to make, but trying my best to keep the content coming! :D
And one more short bending piston video tomorrow ;)
@@McMakistein dude dont worry we know these things take a long time to make so just take ur time
3:16 is where the piston pushes itself if anyone is looking for that
Don't even care about who the guy is or what this channel is about
I just wanted to the see the result and there it is

@@scorpiomelancholia1559 we cant rlly blame them. Money is needed for life unfortunately
Genius! My smooth brain can't even!
You're last comment about therapy was hilarious! NGL it literally made me LMAO
Armor stands have to be the second most game-changing addition after command blocks. Wild considering the armor stand when used as intended is almost worthless.
It looks natural, like something that could have been made in 2012. So I really like this design.
The part that hurts the most is I know exactly why your attempt at my 5x5 failed lmao
Epic tutorials man!
@@McMakistein either you messed up a toggle on the lever side or you're playing in 1.18.2 where it broke cuz mojang broke sand mechanics
@@CraftyMasterman wait what, how could they possibly break sand lol
@@Helperbot-2000 they used a really big hammer
Wow, this is absolutely amazing! Good job, though I still think just learning redstone would have been easier lol
Eyyy RexxStone!!! Cool to see u here XD
just the look of it alone is awesome! good job!
You’ve mentioned Mumbo Jumbo in the video, and have had a previous collab with Grian, what’s stopping you from collaborating with Mumbo? Aside from a certain SMP starting up in the future..
Another cool take on the vanilla piston variation. The ability to extend the piston head in any direction like a snake it a very interesting concept. This allows for a lot of creativity and the creation of some very cool effects!
It’s been many years since I started watching you. My first video that I watched of yours was about a treehouse and then I didn’t realize watch any videos until now.
I am awed by your genius, this is amazing. Simplifying so much!
McMakistein : I cant understand mumbo's genius
Also McMakistein : *codes bending pistons with many featues*
Can't wait to make a piston door where the pistons just fly in from random directions to collect all the blocks from the door and snake away into their hidey holes
Im glad to see detapacks reused for other videos tbh
Nice to see it explored
Mumbo Jumbo: Redstone is easy
McMakistein: Shows off how much code is in that single push limit thing.
Super cool effect, and that you did it with data packs is insanity xD
Have you delved into modding at all? I feel like you could create some amazing whacky fun mods!
dude this is awesome. i haven't played minecraft in years but this would be so usefull. You got my sub!!!!
I think this is an all around funny, confusing, awesome and useful datapack that will make some insane redstone contraptions, and also makes it a bit easier to make normally really long and complicated redstone doors
😂😂😂 what an amazing project. Thanks for the entertaining video as well!
so weird this man doesnt wanna spend a couple hours watching redstone tutorials but will spend a month coding a piston that works wonders
true, but after that month of coding. doors, and other contraptions are easier to build.
Simple tools like this is what all that big complex stuff launches off of, this looks like a blast to play with!
I refered this to my dear friend with a server who's setting up a new modpack/datapack for it, this is probably going to make it in because they love it!
Now look
Among all the wild red stone concepts this has to be a top 3 at least
Hi, your videos are really cool, I noticed in your op beacon video you had a gradual speed increase, I was wondering if you could make a sonic data pack using that feature specifically 😄
This is so amazing and so cursed at the same time lol
I’ve loved your videos for so long. Keep up the great work hope you reach 1m this year
Just amazing man, I love the idea!
This is genuinely badass. I am not a fan of Minecraft getting more complex blocks, but I don't think I'd mind this
Glad to know even a gigabrain like McMakistein doesn't understand Mumbo's redstone...
Definitely want this. It'd make my piston doors a lot easier to make. Wish you could combine it w/ magnet piston mod. But still pretty awesome.
I like how you knew that people would try to get the piston to push itself so you made it go boom when they do
Glad that I found your channel. You really got a cool content ❤️😎 }
Keep posting!
I would love to see mumbo use these to make some cool redstone contraptions
Indeed it would.
A Noob at redstone, a Pro at code. This is McMakistein.
Please god you HAVE to get this mod into Mumbo’s hands
That's super dope bro omg
that's amazing dude, great job
that bit at the end had me in stitches xD
Maybe there should be some orange sparks on the second block out from that piston neck? Allowing you to chop back the piston settings to the block before where you made the mistake. In turn, make the sparks around the piston base red, so people know that it deletes everything. I don't know hop the code works though, maybe the issue you had isn't so much user interface, though I could see issues with settings being 2 blocks out if piston moves in a 3 wide or smaller loop, so much as the code knowing to delete the rest of the neck after that point and set the block where you clicked it to a head.
You can also use the texture for stilts or long bar details for building
Looks way more convenient to setup than the ordinary piston system. It may not look as satisfying, but it's damn easier and more efficient from what I've seen in this video at least.
This is so much fun to play around with it! and making videos also!
Why are you breaking my mind 🤯
But a amazing idea for pistons
Great video 👍🏻
Instead of taking the hours to watch Redstone tutorials and learning about it, he took an entire month just to code some command blocks.
This dude definitely deserves a sub.
Honestly a unseen great use for these could be for music builds
WOW! The best datapack for Minecraft, I need it for my redstone because i'm so bad. +1 sub
I'd love to see what someone like Mumbo could do with this. Super cool
This broke my mind already!
I think this would be nice in vanilla Minecraft but with a few nerfs.
My suggestion is the pistons should only extend straight forward. Secondly, it should be limited to 10 blocks long, and each piston would have to be specifically crafted for their intended length. For example, craft a normal piston together with a copper ingot, and you get a +1 extending piston. Craft with 2 ingots and it extends 2 blocks, and so on.
The idea is the copper would work as hollow cylinders (think telescope, plastic lightsabers, etc.) that are attached to the piston head and can be retracted into one another. That way, it makes logical sense that the piston can fit into a single block when retracted.
Without a crafting table, you could craft up to 3 ingots together with a piston, and with a crafting table, you could put 8 ingots with the piston, making 8 rods the maximum limit. Including the piston's base and head, it would cover 10 blocks in total.
this is one of the most clever and ingenious things ive ever seen
Mumbo: Finally i can make a 100x100 door tutorial
Can you make some tutorials about the machines you made with your own pistons? Such as the staircase and the door?
Wow. You guys are crazy good with command blocks.
I recently made one to recreate hermitcraft season 8's moon situation, but I basically be nothing back then and am hoping to have something bigger and better soon.
Where do you learn your command block/datapack tricks?
it would be so cool if Mumbo Jumbo did a video on this amazing datapack
Can you make all your datapacks for 1.16.5 also plss
the last sentence made me subscribe
If you're trying to make a door or elevator in a smaller space, using less redstone/pistons would be helpful and makes it seem more seamless
Now mumbo needs to see this and do his magic
Subscribed for McMakistein's therapy.
saw this in reddit yesterday
Nice man
I would love to see if this could be recreated using the actual internal piston blocks (you can actually create them with commands). I'll just call them block 36 because that's what most people know them as... Would be more performant and makes the piston logic simpler, plus, it gives that satisfying smooth animation.
Block 36 (I believe its actually just id minecraft:piston now, just, as a tile entity, with some NBT data) has a block ID to animate with and its state (e.g. waterlogged), and it is either extending or not (retracting). It has a progress value to determine how far along in the animation it should play from, and, once the animation completes, block 36 turns into the block ID it has stored.
The actual head of the piston is a block 36 in place of the original piston when retracting, and in front when extending. I forgot the exact details on what its values are, but, basically when a piston pushes a block there are two block 36s in front of the piston, and when it retracts, there is one block 36 in front of the piston and one where the piston is. It would be easier to recreate the piston head with armor stands I think.
Would also be hard to make this work with corners, but, I guess it could be two stages, one for pushing/pulling the block into the corner, and a second for it getting pulled/pushed away.
I tested this info myself in 1.18.2 using the Carpet mod's /tick freeze and /tick step features (super cool features, would highly recommend checking them out), and Minecraft's /data get block command.
block 36 is minecraft:moving_piston, not minecraft:piston. also, the piston head is minecraft:piston_head. please update this comment so others can know
@@vindi167 I found this out later, the ID of the tile entity is minecraft:piston for some reason (true for all block 36s I tested, from sticky pistons, slime blocks, etc)
Also, the piston head is only that block *after* the piston has finished moving, while the piston is in motion, the animation is controlled by a block 36, which is what I was describing. Whenever you see a block moving in the piston animation, there is a block 36 for it.
Unfortunately after I tested some more, I also realized that you can't create the tile entity artificially, because moving_piston isn't a tile entity when placed down via setblock for some reason, which, I suspect is because the pistons have code to create those strange artificial tile entities themselves. That's probably why the ID of the tile entity doesn't match with the ID of the block.
This is terrifying for some reason
When a sticky piston stickies itself
"A chain of entitys with various block models..."
The computer says no.
When you pushed that gold block diagonally i started squeaking i love it so much
"mumbo how do i understand your level of genius"
sentences that have never been uttered before
These could be SO USEFUL for making a portal adventure map
I like how he can't understand mumbo's genius, and yet mumbo probably can't understand his genius
Love this
OK, this is unironically very cool
Good job man
I can't even begin to imagine how you programmed this using mc functions :O
Sick with the pistons. You could make moving DNA and RNA
"So how does it work? Armor stands."
You can't understand Mumbo Jumbo, but you can understand SethBling?
You should make yourself doc ock with this, would be such a cool idea
its all fun and games until mcmakistein builds a rhombicosidodecahedron with the piston
its very good datapack 👍👍
This is really cool
this would be great idea for music transition video using this mod
This channel is way too entertaining
best datapack i ever seen
Two Maki Videos in so quick succession???
this was hillarious. Definitely subbed so you can afford therapy after this. looks like it's needed lmao
im subscribing for your hardwork
Very impressive!
My favorite super simple piston door only needs two blocks, and a lever. Basically, you place two blocks of TNT where you want to enter, and ignite it with the lever. It doesn't close, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
