Loeb was never up against as many former champions as the likes of McRae, Mäkinen, Sainz or Burns. At the start of his 9 year reign it was just sainz, solberg and groholm, sainz left full-time driving at the end of 04, gronholm end of 07 so in the last 5 years of his reign the only former champion he was up against was solberg..... Latvala and Hirvonen never came close to loeb even when he broke his leg and won the title from a hospital bed. As far as I'm concerned he was never really properly challenged and just walked it. Different eras but regardless of statistics and the 9 titles. I still rate McRae more highly than loeb. As I just pointed out, the stats are a bit of an optical illusion particularly between 07 to 12. McRae was a rally genius!
