Just got back from a once in a lifetime trip to Iceland. Our group had almost twenty year difference in age. It was fun to do the circle tour. Our guide was excellent and was a wealth of information. What frustrated me was wanting to do outdoor activities and not being listened to. Shopping in Reykjavik was okay, but not every other day of our trip. I found other tourists to be talkative and friendly. As far as the weather, it some days rainy other days warm and sunny. The weather shouldn't be a factor in your decision. I would like to come back again, but it probably won't happen.
We really enjoyed the Perlan Museum. ❤. We skipped the Blue Lagoon. It is way too touristy, expensive and regimented. There are nice baths all around Iceland for a more reasonable price (if you want amenities) or for free (if you don’t).
I'm liking your vids. Thanks. I just got back from my second trip to your country. I love it there, despite some of my trip setbacks this time. I'm a nurse, and I did notice some things about your country. First, I went to the botanical gardens in Akureyri. It is near a hos pital, and I was suprised to see this hospital looked too "quiet". None of the usual chaos you'd see at a hospital here. I'm interested to know how your medical care is set up. Also, I didn't see a lot of sickly looking elderly people. I saw elderly there hiking with their walking sticks, while me and my severe arthritis was plodding along. Keep up the good work Mr. Time Warp.
I can understand that tourists find these places overrated. Personally, as someone who doesn't enjoy going to museums in general, I really enjoyed Perlan and would go there again. The cafe on top is nice, but extremely expensive and not worth it for that reason.
I enjoyed all of the places on this list. They weren't my favorite places but they were easy to get to from Reykjavik. I would actually put Gullfoss and Þingvellir in my top 10 so if you are staying in the city I would recommend most of these places. We never went to the wreck in the year we were there. After visiting Blue and Sky we just went to the public hot pools in town just because they were easy to use. Great Video as always!
My first hotdog was at a Ice Cream shop near Laugardalslaug. Lamb and pork. Was amazing! Then I spent the rest of the trip chasing that dragon. Luckily I got another before hitting the airport home.
I found Geysir was a disapoinment, but not due to it, but due to the state of the place as its trampled to death ny so many tourists... yes the Irony of the tourist saying that I know.
It's definitely not overated. I can imagine it being dull on a dull day in a crowded tour. But in a beautiful day with plenty of time there isn't much that can beat it 😊
Best hotdog I've had in Iceland was at the Fjolnir sports complex. I was there for a hockey invitational and our hosts opened the concession stand. Super good, much less overrated than our Chicago Hot Dog.
So I guess they were the classic BBQ hotdogs? Those are definitely great and something tourist don't really get to experience. Cold toasted bread and burnt hot hot dogs?
@@TimeWarpIceland no from what I remember they were very good, I think our hosts took great care to show the good side of the people and the country. So I think they showed us the good side of the hot dog selection. Definitely one of my favorite foods up to this point.
Totally get it. I'm in New York and have a membership to the Bronx Zoo and, "have a card and everything" I can bring a guest so if you want to stop by... I got you covered.
@@TimeWarpIceland Man, I don’t know! The card is white with a picture of a seal on it… I got the free parking add on… I’m sure we can reconcile something in our heads about green and the environment. All I'm saying is I support wildlife, have this card, and will take you to the zoo if you come back to New York... I guess I'm trying to say... I watch tourists in New York all the time and hate to be a tourist myself but when I'm in Iceland... I'm all like, WHERES THE PUFFIN STORE!
UPDATE: We're coming back with family and the kids want to go to Perlan... I thought, "Shoot, we should have gotten a membership" (joking) but at the zoo here, if we go twice, it pays for itself. @@TimeWarpIceland
I really liked the blue lagoon, there were people but not too crowded, you could find a spot for yourself. And the environment is quite surreal, the lava rocks and silica water. Not to mention everyone walking around with those ridiculous facemasks.
The plane wreck was great before it got "discovered" - you could drive right up to it & if you weren't alone you just had to wait a little while & you would be. Kinda the same as most of the best spots in Iceland - spoiled by the crowds (which you yourself are part of of course...). Tip - go in summer & head to the main spots late at night. It will be light still & there will be few people there which makes everything a million times better.
That's a good tip. And if you are coming from a different timezone in june ish you don't really need to adjust your clocks. No jet lag, and you can explore late evening or in the night.
I'd say driving the Ring Road is overrated. Vast stretches of nothing, tough driving conditions most of the way and feeling rushed the entire time (I blame RUclips for putting the idea in my head). And yeah, the Blue Lagoon is like sitting in a large, crowded hot tub next to an airport.
Haha yea you have to give your self plenty of time and really set your expectations to some parts being dull. But on a beautiful day, dull places are hard to find.
So, was that you working at a service station? Trying to get in front of the camera since you were young? Oh no...Sounds like you are on a "naughty" list now with the government tax authorities!
It was me. I went back to 2005 in my photo collection . The plan was to photoshop me behind the counter. When I found that picture of me mooning I figured I had to use it. So the photo is photoshop. I was mooning my brother not hot dogs in the original 😅

Yea it's a shame because otherwise if go there regularly.
A. Excellent list Karl …on a chilly rainy day I would skip Geysir in in a heartbeat.. the rest if the Golden Circle is aok even with bad weather
I love Geysir but I agree. But I agree. I've been there in terrible weather it wasn't the same.

Thank you 😊 I also think they are great. I don't think I did them disservice in this video. Just brought expectations down to earth 😅
I have asked this question previously: Why do you have only 3K subscribers? You Sir are hilarious 😂
Thank you 😊 it's the quality of subscribers that counts. I have the best ones.
Jordy at 3:45 ! 🙂
Yes. And his wife Kim. Learned much of my filmmaking from him. Love those guys.
@@TimeWarpIceland the sad thing is that he stopped with his youtube channel and business. I've learned also a lot from him
Yea, it was sad. I keep in touch and he's happy. So that's something 🙂

Do you mean the little one in the parking lot?
OK took me awhile to find it. Its called Ísbúðin Laugalæk. Super good. 10 yrs ago, hopefully still rockin' it!@@TimeWarpIceland

We want to visit again! We did a version of our golden circle and we found it to be supreme!
It's definitely not overated. I can imagine it being dull on a dull day in a crowded tour. But in a beautiful day with plenty of time there isn't much that can beat it 😊
Loved Perlan, as for Geysir...😴
You prefer Perlan over Geysir? It's for sale BTW. Special price if you buy it before end of desember apparently.
Now do top 5 underrated places.
1. Dynjandi
Good idea. 2. Ásbyrgi
3. Skagafjörður
4. Akureyri pool@@icelandinharmony9118

We want to go back... even to see the overrated places... It's all great!
Well wen you do come back make sure you hit me up. Next time we'll have you over for real traditional food. Not just oven ready 😂
Speaking of which - that lake and geyser area where we made the lamb stew and coffee - is one of the most amazing places in Iceland!
@@TimeWarpIceland LOL!
It's so underrated that place. It's called Seltun. I'll put it on the top 5 underrated places.

We did a round trip in Iceland and it's true the golden circle is really overrated. There is much more to see and be astonished.
Black sand beach , just some rocks with suicidal tourists 😂
Haha the area is gorgeous though. Not the worst place to have as the last place. You see.

Oh yes, they want their cut so they can build that stupid lava wall that's not going to do anything for anyone.
@@TimeWarpIceland Yeah, we've had that as well. Some former President trying to build walls....
Hahaha yea you're right! Uncanny!
