  • How to work German short rows, a handy technique for shaping knitted fabric. I also explain why short rows are so useful, and why I think no knitter should be scared of them!

Best tutorial video for german short rows. Others make this technique look far too complex

I am a German in US and came across a pattern calling for German short rows. I wondered what that was supposed to be. Your very good video showed me it was what I have been doing all my life - it is just plain short-rows for me. I am subscribing, you are a good teacher.🥰

Thank You! Your video and details really helped me in knitting. I've never done this technique before , but all sweaters seem to have German short rows. I'm feeling more confident now. Thanks again!

Making your beautiful cardigan pattern and honestly does feel a bit scary when I came across this but now saw how not so intimidated it will be. Thank you 🙏

@@lilykatemakes8358 definitely probably a good video to do tbh as I struggled to find a decent one that wasn’t the wrap and turn method as I didn’t like that way x

Hi! I'm working on the fine line sweater! You said in the video you would show how to work the GSR in rib pattern, but the video cut off before you could show it. Is it any different in rib pattern? I presume the purl side is the 'wrong side' and the knit side is the right sid win the pattern, but do you have to bring the yarn round before you slip the stitch in the rib pattern?

Hi! It's worked exactly the same as in stocking stitch - if the next stitch is a knit, you work it like a knit GSR, and likewise for a purl 😊

Really nice video! But it ends before you show how to deal with the german short row stitches on the purl side...Does it work the same as the knit row, working the two legs together?

thank you! Annoyingly the camera cut off at that point and I didn't realise, but thought it was probably worth uploading the rest of the video anyway. Purl side is worked exactly the same, just purl the two legs together :)

but why we make GSRs anyway?? what are the use of it?

for the same reason you'd use any short rows - to create shaping in a garment in a different way to increases and decreases :) For example I use them for shoulder shaping and sleeve caps.
