While This how to video didn’t go nearly as smoothly as many others I’ve watched, THANK YOU for showing a Rusty vehicle for a change… that’s what a lot of us are working with it cracked me up watching the tech run into so many issues, like not being able to fit hands in tight spaces, dropping stuff, having ratchet go wrong way, busting knuckles, etc., only because that is me when I do anything lol. Kudos to the tech for not teaching young children, new and made up swear words like I do when my son is watching lol
I so appreciate that they show the tech overcoming the problems of working on rusted cars. A clean fluiless disassembly in a photo studio, like in some manuals, is not even close to being as valuable as a 1A Auto video.
by far this is the best video on youtube on this repair video quality is so good and amazing instructions. I have the same car only difference i have the wagon model
My two cables are original and one is longer than the other one. All seems well at the brake drum end. Do you know what my problem could be? When I tighten the lever cable it just pulls the shorter cable out of the bracket.

One thing you did not show is how to remove the parking brake handle boot. I figured it out...pull the edges of the front of the boot. The rear is held with a tab. once the front is lifted the rear comes right out.
And to remove the stuck wheels...don't use a sledge hammer...I use a piece of 2x6-8 like a bat with the car on a jack. Just swing at the tire from the inside/inboard side and rotate the tire a 1/4 turn at a time. It has always worked for me and never damaged a wheel or tire because you're hitting it with a wide surface. You're able to transmit a much higher amount or energy. For not so stuck wheels just kick the outside of the tire towards the car, many times it works. File the hub and inside diameter of the wheel hub and apply a small amount of grease (wipe off excess) to prevent recurrence.
Try to do this without the car on a hoist. I will gladly pay to have this done. Also, its best to replace ALL the cables, brackets, ect, at the same time, costs more but you'll save yourself some grief and your parking brakes will perform flawlessly.
I don't know what I need to do , my cable are in tact my shoes are not worn, but when I pull the cable (after adjustment) it barely locks the back wheels.
@@dazboy7666 It seems to have been seized mechanism inside the drum that the cable pulls on.. There are these quadrants that are supposed to move when you initiate the hand brake but they don't move freely. You have to clean them out and put some anti seize on them.

Great video, as usual from 1A Auto. Looks like a nightmare of a job. My 2001 Ford Focus has some rust too. Yes, that is an understatement.

Nice video. I can’t find the cables on your site. Where did you get them?

In my Focus (which is a Ghia version) there're disc rear brakes. So what's next? :-)

check that the cable holder hasn't pulled out of the rear drum housing as it is a common fault

@@radekw708 a small amount of Wd40 will free them up
Before I pull these cables out of these retainers, I'm gonna go back here and disconnect the cable on this side.
