Thanks so much for watching everyone! The process may be a little different on each car, but the mindset is the same. I also found an issue with the caliper on the right rear. I touched on it for a second in the video. I will show you guys exactly what is wrong, once I dive into that issue.
HumbleMechanic Use a small socket and extention for the devil clips lol works like a dream. Ps i got my volt gauge and 42 draft and design gauge holder installed looks so nice! Thanks again
Watching this all I can think is why doesn't my mk4 have such a legit console?! My fuel door release is in a similar spot but it sits out in the open (with no actual console for storage) I can't help but feel like having it hidden under a lid like that would be so much better
It is rare that I find a video that explains a process so clearly that I feel like I could go out and do the work after watching just once. You have the gift of explaining details clearly with excellent filming. Every component was easy to see and understand. I have liked and subscribed your channel because I want to see more.
I don't think you understand just how great you made it. It was simple, and concise, no gimmicks. Video was clear. You gave options that were practical. This is an example of a mechanic you can trust with your car
I do not typically comment or like much, just due to my antisocial nature. However, this video was SO WELL DONE, I just had to drop a like, comment, and subscribe. I absolutely love how in depth you get without overwhelming us with information or throwing in useless BS. I’m also very happy with the flow of the video, how you take the time to explain each step in depth enough for me to literally be able to visualize how I am going to do it once i get home, without even having the car in front of me. Thank you for such a great video, and keep up the excellent work, man!
the best how to auto video I've ever seen. Brief, to the point, and no time wasted slowly tuning bolts or letting me know what you had for breakfast for the last week or other non related info. Great job. tx Gary
Well explained and demonstrated.. Great camera work too. Due to arthritis and limited strength and mobility you’ve made my mind up~ I’ll get the mechanics to do it. 👍🏻
I have'nt seen you in a while sir, i watched you some time back, and was able to fix someone's dragging truck door watching you, Now i'll fix my e brakes on a truck watching you, you're real good sir, at what you be doing.
This video was super helpful! Just paid the family's favorite mechanic to replace the e-brake; I assumed he tested it....nope. He didn't even touch it. lol oh well, live, learn & fix it yourself.
Thank you so, so very much! My parking break just broke- one service station said OH NO! so you cannot drive it🙉😳- obviously, not going there. Other place tried to sell me break pads🤣🤣🤣. Am a practical and handy chick...figured it's gest to get some knowledge b4 talking to another Service-dude😈. Never thought about parking break cable might need adjusting...next time around am better informed🎊🎊
Thank you so much. I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer that I've been working on. I'm a female that happens to like saving money and learning. The parking breaks and lines are my next project and I appreciate the video .
After replacing a heater core on my Volvo 940 the interior was never quite the same. So I pretty much gutted it (weight reduction bro). After dealing with a finicky window regulator I left the door panel off for easy access (more weight reduction bro). Then the parking brake became an issue. What to do? Take it out was the obvious answer. Took out the center console and threw it away. Took out the lever and threw it away. WEIGHT REDUCTION BRO! Tucked the cable under the carpet. And now I finally have a place to put my cup of coffee. All that being said... if I ever need to adjust/replace my cable on my 240 or 740 I'm coming here first. Thanks Charles! Luv ya!
This is the first time I've watched one of your videos but I'm about to adjust the handbrake on my wife's RAV4 and was looking for tips. Great really great video - very clear instructions & pictures. You've just got another subscriber !!!!
My friend you have a most excellent presentation, flawless procedure accompanied by very well lit camera positioning. The best part is is your clear evenly modulated voice, and accurate and detailed instructions.
Wow! Was just wondering a little about how the breake wire system is working on my car and clicked on ur vid. Very impressive vid and very well explained and illustrated ! :D Thank you ! :D
Question @ 4:02 - 4:10 Location emergency brake cable bracket where cable passes thru the bracket. You edited the video here. My guess is that cable was seized up inside that bracket under the retaining clip. Do you remember what you did too free that cable from the bracket? In a perfect world without Michigan salted roads and undercarriage rust; that cable is just a simple slip fit with a clip. I'm working on a similar e brake and caliper e-bracket. I've cleaned the area well with pblaster and wire brushes, heated with a torch, love taps with a hammer& punch. Ultimately I had to perform surgery with a disc grinder to cut the retaining e bracket enough finally break the e cable free. Now I'm on left side with same issue hopefully someone here might have a helpful suggestion. Otherwise an Excellent repair tutorial, very helpful. Thank you
One thing the video doesn't show is how you run the line. Did you take off the heat shield or just fish it behind all the other layers. Ty for such a good video btw.
Okay have a question an need help . I Have a 98 vw jetta an the rear e-brake cable I replaced that was causing the driver side cailper to stick , the new cable at the part inside the car where u make the adjustment at the cable doesn't seem to be long enough to do how u show in the vid of how to do it . Like I havw to have the nut barley on the threads an the brake handle fully released to do the adjustment if I did what you showed I would not be able to even adjusted at all if that makes sense . Would u know what's going on or what I could be doing wrong your the only guy I know that does nothing much vw stuff
Awesome video!! Very simple but professional. Good quality video that was clear, and easy to follow along. Very informative! Perfect timing that I came across this video. My E-brake is going all the way up and barely doing its job. Wasn’t sure what to do about it now I am... I’m going to replace it myself!! Thanks again brother for an awesome video. BTW... I smashed the like button and subscribed 👍🏼
I have a 2000 New Beetle that needs this. I think I can do this myself, bought the cables already. Hopefully I don't have issues with the caliper. Thanks new sub 👍
Nice instructions. I would lubricate the cable before installing it in its place. Also remember to test drive the car and see that the brake really holds the car in place when set.
@ 9:16 What grease would you recommend for the spring on the e-cable on the brakes end? I'm replacing the Rear Drum Brakes and cleaned everything including that spring. There was some white grease there. Not sure what to apply instead. I have Extreme Ceramic Brake Grease, but I think maybe there is some more specific grease for the application. The Shop Manual for our 2009 Nissan Sentra advises with NISSAN Brake Grease KRF00 00005, which can be found only on Amazon in Japan (and also it might be wrong product, everything is Japanese there). Thank you for the informative film.
I believe most people are here because they have failed inspection on this topic on their car. Like I did. I'm glad Charles also very well explains this more boring topic. Because you know you have to get it right.
True. My shop quoted over $800 P+L (2009 Hyundai Santa Fe). I'm not doing it myself but will see if another shop can come in lower. The cables right now are $89 ea on AutoZone.
Thank you, Great infomercial! I am a lady trying to find an honest mechanic for your simple cable replacement. Most estimate require hefty cost and all day 5 hour proposition. Help if you know honest repair facility for your easy cable install. Keep up these great infomercials!
Id suggest all things being equal if the brakes are adjusted in case of drums and calipers are all good then a long handbrake may point to something not right down at the wheel end of the cables and adjusting them up the other end might mask it. Best to check everything from the brakes and cables before adjusting them. Back when we had manual adjusters only on drums it was pretty common to find handbrakes over adjusted to mask some other problem and the result was instead of the shoes resting on the stops they rested on the cable tension from over adjusted hand brake and caused the cables to stretch or the cable housing to compress, when all they needed in most cases was proper adjustment at the wheels. Auto adjusters cured that mostly but it didn't stop everyone from doing it and odd occasion still get some that find a long handbrake go straight for the adjusters at the hand brake ends. This one the cables look pretty knackered and need new ones so just adjusting them without replacing them wouldn't really fix anything.
Like the video and could see and follow clearly. I have a similar question. I have an 07 Focus an my rear brake keeps wanting to get tight an tighter as I drive. I've done changed all calipers all the way around the car an still the back passenger side still seems to drag. I'm all out of sorts. What else could be an what can I do? Please an thank you.
Great video but ive took my car into garage twice now as parking brake kepted being loose but can you tell me my mechanic installed a new cable this time so does the mechanic do the same as you did in your video or can he just install from underneath once the car is jacked up? many thanks
Forgot to mention great video, I'm still struggling with a '91 Corvette with the integral calliper park brake. No adjustment anywhere and the "automatic" 3 pulls dosen't work.
Hey, 2006 Honda CRV...cables look in good shape outside, but bound up inside...trying PB BLASTER into the wheel end with the rotor off, the the shoes dismantled. Any other suggestions before I buy new cables?
My ebrake cable will not pull all the way out of the tube. There's some sort of metal obstructing the cable end from pulling out. It's only big enough for the thinner white sheath to fit through. Is this part of the old cable (which was extremely rusted and hard to pull through tube) that I just have to force out?
At 11:20 the equalizer is uneven...isn’t it supposed to be even ? Or was there an issue in the left rear drum (more wear) ? Thanks and Great video btw... 😃
Thanks so much for watching everyone! The process may be a little different on each car, but the mindset is the same.

My cable won't come out is it safe to heat it up abit to release the cable
What's the meaning of drag
Truely humble mechanic is a natural born teacher, easy to follow, nice voice, no cheap music.

Well that antisocial nature is very much neutralized when you make sentences with "I absolutely love ..."!

You covered this topic so clear, that we should be charged a installation fee lol.. Good job 🤙🏽

Thanks Charles. That was really well done. Good lighting, camera angles and editing. You made it look simple.
Thank you so much

Just did this on my MKIV. Was easy, thanks for all you do for us VW guys!
Was it a stick? & What does Mk stand for? I'm assuming the V is RN for 5.
I thought this would be really hard, but you made it look so easy. I just tried it and it works like a charm. Thank you!
thanks!

You see a beard like that on a mechanic, you know you're in good hands :) Great video!
Better explanation then Chris Fix. Really serious though, great video with lighted scenes. You helped my coming job immensely.
Great video at school they never taught me how to adjust or replace the cable 😀😀 thanks
This is one of the best car repai instructional videos Ive ever seen. I subscribed right away!
Thank you!
Soooo much easier than I thought it would be! Hopefully it'll go smooth when I do my ebrake on my 06 Tiburon!
Yet another project that I have coming up and yet another HM video that I'll be referencing! Keep up the great work Charles!
Woot!
Very useful video. You speak very clearly and get straight to the point.
Thank you
You look like Aaron Kaufman from Fast n Loud! Great video, very helpful.
well-thought-out, detailed instructions and great camera work! Thank you so much
Once again, an excellent tutorial. Many thanks from Vienna, Austria (Europe). :)
Thank you .
This is amazing brother. Always scared myself out of the idea of replacing a brake cable. Thanks so much for doing this video.
Wow! Was just wondering a little about how the breake wire system is working on my car and clicked on ur vid. Very impressive vid and very well explained and illustrated ! :D
Thank you ! :D
awesome! thank you
I don’t think I’ve seen an easier parking brake replacement! On some cars you have to drop the exhaust, driveshaft etc. Thanks! 👍
I got a whole set of those metric SK wrenches, worth every bit of the $200. The more you use them, the more you'll love them.
I replaced my rotors, calipers and brake pads ... now e brake not working is cold now in mn ur video is gonna help alot
Your video was very informative and clear to see and understand 👍 great details and clear lighting ✨️ 😮😊 ty for sharing.

Finally know how to do it properly on my disc converted Seat Arosa seen as it uses the exact same style!

One thing the video doesn't show is how you run the line. Did you take off the heat shield or just fish it behind all the other layers. Ty for such a good video btw.
Very detailed and informative show how. Mine is next generation E39 with different arrangement by the handle (difficult to adjust). Thank you!

This is not a easy job. 5 hours seems legit when u have no idea what interior is going to need to come out.
Better than the Haynes manual thanks again.

Nice video, thumbs up. Only wrong is silicon spray.Silicon is not good for metals. Ok, you replace kable, but stil some oil lubricant is better.

Similar however sometimes you have to take the drum all the way apart
Similar however sometimes you have to take the drum all the way apart
You beast i needed this video😱
Thank you. Your explanation was very simple 👍
really2 helpful..thanks for the video👍
Excellent video! Thank you for the clear explanation.
What are the metal brackets called 5:23
Awesome vid man👍
Great vid wish there was one for Ford Windstar 2003, not one on the net just yet...
Follow the same technique.
Where can I get those small parts for MKV R32 (brakets, clips, etc)?
At 11:20 the equalizer is uneven...isn’t it supposed to be even ? Or was there an issue in the left rear drum (more wear) ?
Thanks and Great video btw... 😃
Even is ideal for sure. Mine is slightly off, not enough I’m super worried about.
pretty good instructions. very well done
Thanks
