紋章官で卒論書いたので個人的にとても懐かしく、前編からたのしく拝見しました！（参考文献もお世話になった書籍ばかり、、） ROCK YOU（原題A Knight's tale）という映画に、トーナメントで紋章にどうこう言ってる紋章官が描かれてますね。史実云々は置いといて、当時のヘラルドのイメージがちょっと膨らんで、おもしろいです。

紋章官で卒論書いたので個人的にとても懐かしく、前編からたのしく拝見しました！（参考文献もお世話になった書籍ばかり、、）
ROCK YOU（原題A Knight's tale）という映画に、トーナメントで紋章にどうこう言ってる紋章官が描かれてますね。史実云々は置いといて、当時のヘラルドのイメージがちょっと膨らんで、おもしろいです。
その映画好きで何度も観ました！馬上槍試合のイメージもそこから湧いてきます。中世ヨーロッパの若者の青春群像劇って感じで爽やかな映画だったなぁ…

日本の戦国時代、家門はあくまでも家門であって、戦場では家門と別に個人を示す馬印や旗印、部隊単位でお揃いの旗指物を掲げていたようですね。
馬印は個人を示すために派手なものが多く（逆に質素にして目立つという手も）、織田信長は金の笠、その子信忠は金の升、丹羽長秀は竹に金の短冊（七夕飾り）など好きなモノを好きなようにアレンジして掲げています。

自分は槍につらぬかれる鮭（しゃけ）を想像した
名称やら色の指定やらで厳格に定められてんやなぁ…とか思ってたら酒の席で決めたんじゃないかって感じの紋章大量に出てきて草生えた
英語の辞書を引くたびにたまに単語の意味のなかに＜紋章学＞何々（意味）ってのが散見されてて、「なんだこれ？（わからんけど調べない）」ってなってましたが、2本おかげでおかげで長年の疑問が氷解しました。

現在のグラナダ県、グラナダ市に連なる紋章ですが、今でこそ「granada(スペイン語でザクロ。手榴弾のグレネードなどとも同じ語源)」と同スペルになりますが、「語源は説が1000ある」とまで言われるそのほとんどはザクロとは関係のないものだったりします。
まぁ古い言葉だけにこっちが先で植物のザクロが後でこの地域から付けられた…なんて説もありますが、そっちはラテンの「種いっぱい」からなので違うかな

あくまでも本多家側の伝承らしいんですが、葵の紋は功績を称える為に本多家の紋「立ち葵」から意匠を取ったと言います。これが本当なら与えるだけでなく功績を挙げた家の紋から採用するという手法もあるようです。
また、宗旨変えした際にも家紋を変える様です。下り藤は熊野信仰に帰依した家に多いとか。
後は、倒した大名家の紋を奪う、友好の証しに贈る、商家の女紋なんかがありますね。
