- Veteran commentator and author Ann Coulter, on a podcast hosted by former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, told him she agreed with most of his positions but wouldn’t vote for him because he’s "Indian." Ramaswamy is a first-generation American, born in Ohio while his parents are originally from India. My Parents live in Switzerland since 2012 and have already obtained Swiss citizenship.
There are three ways in which you can acquire Swiss citizenship:

If my parents now had a kid born in Switzerland, the kid would be a natural Born Swiss Citizen since now both his parents were Swiss Citizens. All you need is 1 Swiss parent to become a Swiss. FYI ALL EUROPEAN AND EU COUNTRIES OPERATE IN THE SAME WAY.
None of them have automatic birthright citizenship the way America does.

culturally he is Indian- American. The vast majority of people who write " American" on the US census form are people of British origins who have lived in the United States for many generations. That full sense of being American only takes many generations. Most Irish Catholics have been in the USA for several generations and most of them still write " Irish" not " American" on the census.

Maybe you don’t know who she is but she’s been an author and in the media for awhile. She’s a skilled polemicist, I don’t always agree with her but really, her expertise is in constitutional law. It's not a skin color issue. It's a cultural issue. First and second-generation Americans still have strong ties to the country their main ancestry is from. Most of these folks need to be far removed from that ancestry to be completely American culturally. For example, many Black Americans talk a good game about being "African" American and often want to connect to certain parts of West African culture, but most of us are so far removed from anything African that we wouldn't know it if it hit us in the face. Most Black Americans have been on this soil that we now call the United States of America since the 1600s. That is very far removed from Africa timewise and generationally.

I do not have a problem with The being here for three generations before you can be president thing. We’re fooling ourselves to think someone whose parents are foreigners don’t instill those foreign ideals and values into their children. It’s a rather big deal to be the president of the United States, so all measures should be taken to ensure we have someone loyal to the United States and its values 100%
I also like how Ann correctly, pointed out that Black people have been in the United States longer than most whites. It’s very irritating to hear some non-black person tells us to “go back to Africa”, when their families asses arrived in 1904! If you’re not related to one of the Native American tribes, a descendent of Roanoke, or related to the pilgrims, you don’t have the right to tell me sh*t!

There cannot be any doubt about the president loyalty to the United States! There cannot be a hint of the president showing favoritism or deferring to any other nation on this planet. A first generation citizen is going to naturally have far more ties to their ancestral home then someone who is three or four generations removed! You can pretend that’s not true all you want, but you can also pretend the sky is purple. As the most powerful position on earth, all assurances need to be made that person is loyal to the United States. Their ties to this nation is one of those those assurances.

@@ciaronsmith4995 for the office of the President of the United States you have to be born in the United States and the reason that was put in place is to make sure that the President specifically was fully American and did not have foreign loyalties. Even Irish-Americans ( as white as you can get) had a very distinct Irish identity well into the 1960s. By the 2020s, that has faded significantly but just look at a US census report and even today, most people that say American on the census are multigenerational Americans of English heritage.
Does Ann Coulter apply the third generation requirement to English speaking white immigrants? Ann Coulter's mind would be blown if I told her that Indians in India teach English grammar to white native born multiple generation descended British kids. I suspect Ann also is very poor in her knowledge of Indian culture. She confuses Indian and Hindu. I suspect her real issue is not with Vivek being Indian, but with being a Hindu. I am myself an immigrant from Kerala, India where St Thomas, one of the 12 disciples arrived and started Christianity in 40 AD. Ann's ancestors were pagan for centuries while mine were Christian. It would be beyond her comprehension if I told her that although my ancestors were Christian since 40 AD, today I consider myself a Hindu, because Hinduism is the only philosophy/religion that says that there are multiple paths to salvation, so I can accept Christ as my savior while being a Hindu.

Ironically, Vivek wants to change the voting age to 25 and add mandatory civics exams for people to vote. This actually supports Ann's argument, because this kind of idea and thinking is not American, and definitely seems like something influenced by eastern culture. yes a huge number of whites have roots in the 16 and 1700s too but the African slave trade to the American colonies was largely finished by the 1830s when the British Empire outlawed it and made it very difficult. Tens of millions of European immigrants ( Irish Catholics, Italians, Germans, Eastern Europeans etc) came AFTER that time.
