    I practice a mixture of martial arts and I like to incorporate internal wudang elements. I was not aware wudang practicioners did iron bone, but the other day I did some exercises on my own with tree trunks in my yard as the man in the video, I would do the breath and push my hands down guiding qi inward to my dan tian. I have very little practical experience but I do understand the concepts and hopefully can develop into the wise peaceful warrior I'm practicing to be. mind body and spirit. thank you for this video!

      Find a qualified teacher. Do what he says. Or you run real of genuine injury.
      There is no quick easy method. The fastest practice would still require a minimum of three years. Take your time. And most importantly be consistant.
      Good luck.

    @youlihan Thank you very much for your comment. Thousand things for thousand of different people. But the number of people like you and me, who love and admire real martial 'arts' with a knowledge that goes far beyond physical acitivity and are truely empirical based for their pracitcal use, is rising. So just let's keep going and promote the real thing! Jia You, Brother!

    @tao123chi and @bernardwikarsa thank you for your nice comments. You both are really encouraging. We always try to show kind of the real thing. It is not our intention to confuse people about what wudang kungfu is or mystify it as something superhuman. If you want to have strong palm, hit the bamboo. If you hit to hard and without structured guidance, you'll harm yourself seriously.

  • @BenWangChongLong
    @BenWangChongLong  12 лет назад +3

    @james1421 external hardening and conditioning has a very old tradition in wudang's internal martial arts, but the methods are very different from those of shaolin and waijia. Conditioning mostly don't hurt, don't harm and should feel comfortable, Otherwise it's done wrong. Conscious development of qi and qi control is always a big part of it. It's never only physical. I think if somebody wants to hit things, even only for the training purpose, one would better have a good strong skin.

  • @ccoorrddxx5313
    @ccoorrddxx5313 7 лет назад +5

    So, does the bamboo become strong after such training???

    • @BenWangChongLong
      @BenWangChongLong  7 лет назад +8

      Well, the bamboo would get stronger as long as it lives. But also more stiff. That could happen to us too, so we try to keep flexible. Actually the stiffness of dry old trees is a good image that is used in daoist philosophy and martial arts often. It is a sign for being old and stiff and a sign that the end is near. Well, the nature of trees is still different from the one of the human body.
      Did you know that bamboo doesn't expand or grow to the side? However it get out of the ground will always define its extent. Growing up will always get thinner and thinner. Even in years there is no growth, only getting harder and harder.

    How does Kung fu help in awakening? Also are there living daoist sages?

    • @BenWangChongLong
      @BenWangChongLong  3 года назад +1

      Well it all depends on the perspective. Daoist practices are real and some practics pierce through the field of western science into the world of spirituality and other dimensions or magic. Some daoist are amazing individuals, know a lot or have good skills or sensitivity for things which others don't have. But: may I ask about your motivation to ask a question like this? Kungfu helps with awakening in many senses, but this again depends on the perspective. What is awakening for you? For me this can be a lot of different things or if it is one phenomena, then it is huge and wide and includes multi-dimensional aspects. But well, my little words responding here can't meet at all my own requirements of a good answer to your question. I would still need a better idea of your motivation and also more clear questions to reply. The problem though is that I'm kin of afraid that I won't be able to answer briefly at all. Maybe you should contact me via E-Mail and book a private lesson online, so I could tell you much more in detail.
      Enjoy yourself and be well my friend! Bye

      My Kumu(Sifu) once sugested for iron palm first hit bags of soy beans for 1 month. Then switch to mung beans then 1 month later switch to lead pellets... Mahalo(thank you) for the nutrition tip, I really did not think about that. Defiantly gonna hit some sand. I practice every morning by the beach... Curious where does your Iron Palm come from? Aloha Brother Ishmadi.

      Remember hitting it alone and feeling the pulsating pain is 1 thing, eating the food for recovery and repairing the damage end and patience behind all that effort. And the exposure to the training be kept consistent coz if you stopped for like a period of time without exposing it time and time again you may revert atrophy at that area which is like resetting it to square 1, coz human body was made to remember something it exposed to and recover or build a recovery system around it.

      @BenWangChongLong  6 лет назад

      These situations aren't unusual. Well, very often schools won't be able to provide a teaching which would compensate the whole experience of a training in Wudangshan. Often you won't even be able to find a school that teaches Wudang Kungfu at all, apart of Taijiquan. The taijiquan of wudangshan is just as well pretty different from Yang family style or Chen family style and the others. But maybe you will be able to find a solution that sorts out your wish of authentic wudang teaching. I'd be happy to support you anyways. greetings

    I wonder how this kind of training would affect one into old age, say 80s, 90s, 100+, are iron palm practitioners able to maintain this training for their entire lives? Does it prevent long term conditions such as osteoporosis and arthritis or does the constant beating of the hands eventually start breaking them down?

    • @NoOffensePies
      @NoOffensePies 8 лет назад +2

      +Robert Taylor They are able to keep practicing, with the correct routine. The thing about iron palm is that it doesn't take as much maintenance as you'd think. Your flesh grows much thicker, and that doesn't change with age. They must also soak their hands in Chinese medicine after, to prevent bone damage or bruising,

    • @ShadowPlay1919
      @ShadowPlay1919 7 лет назад +1

      Robert another thing, arthritis is caused by more major trauma. iron bone training helps prevent arthritis

    • @roberttaylor8906

      NoOffensePies can you elaborate on the Chinese medicine and soaking practices? Is there something that's comparable, low cost, readily and simply made from ingredients in American stores? How should a non kung fu practitioner approach this training differently?

      Well, yes this is real work out. We recommend to use much less intensity when this kind of workout becomes a part of your schedule. Wudang style conditioning should never hurt, deform or do any kind of harm to the practitioner. Instead it should nurture and feel nice. Master Wang is giving the impression that the normal workout is tough like this, but it isn't by far. Especially the outside of the palms and the insides of the arms should be protected and taken care of more. best regards and good training.

    Why is he so angry with the bamboo?

  • @BenWangChongLong
    @BenWangChongLong  12 лет назад

    @james1421 I guess, it is not necessary. If I get you right, true internal training wouldn't ever intend physical use or fight. Internal martial arts have the problem to empasize on internal cultivation and therefore need longer to become as advanced for the use of serious attacks and more important the defense of serious attacks. With internal training you can do a lot to improve your external training, but as far is I know good chinese kungfu (internal or external) is based on a good balance.

    this video doesn't show a conditioning skill, but more the use of the palm and also the fajing of three of the main energies Peng, Ji and An. What you see here is the training for maintaining the palm skills and developing its practical use. It's all freestyle and like this not part of the traditional training schedule. The video lacks structure which traidtional training never does. But freestyle is always bridging theorie and practice.

  • @james1421

    Not sure why it is necessary to harden the skin externally, surely with true internal training this is not necessary !

      Onetwothree No you need this kind of physical training. Internal training doesn't make up for it at all it's only additional. Just like water doesn't stop your hunger. Both develop different qualities.
