My biggest problem with the movie was the Pink Rangers backstory. The Rangers backstories were meant to make you sympathize and feel closer to the Rangers which it worked for every Ranger except the Pink Ranger. The Pink Ranger backstory was basically she was being a bitch to her friends so her friends decided not to hang out with her but throughout the whole movie they are made to look as they r the bad guys/ assholes.

My main problem with Billy's death scene has to be the fact that when they're all submerged in the pool before finding Zordon's ship, they're all in there for at least 3-5 minutes, and when they all come out they're acting like nothing really happened. Yet when Rita drops Billy into the harbor, he's in the water for at most 2 minutes and then comes out dead.

Also, there are a lot of sins in that scene when they thought that Billy was dead. I know that they're teenagers and that it was unlikely that they knew CPR, mouth-to-mouth and basic resuscitation techniques but they didn't do chest compressions/ CPR and I don't even think that they checked to see if he still had a pulse!
Kimberly might've tried to check his pulse, if I remember right but even if you try to check for someone's pulse, if you're doing it incorrectly, it still won't matter.
he didn't drown. the rope glowing green is supposed to show that Rita killed him magically or whatnot. i think that's why they didn't bother with CPR, but the movie should've done a better job showing that.

I thought this sin was odd since it is one of Rita's lines of dialogue from 100% of the Power Ranger episodes she was in.

Mike Lowery While the movie May have taken influences from those movies the tone and core was still Power Rangers. Kids from different walks of lives coming together and becoming and doing something greater. Kids overcoming their personal differences for a common cause. A lot of Rangers seasons handled it similarly to the movie (Lost Galaxy, Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, RPM, the Boom Power Rangers comics, etc) and spent a lot of elements hinting at and honoring the tone of Power Rangers. Just because the Power Rangers movie has more weighted and serious tone doesn’t mean it wasn’t Power Rangers at tone.
Micheal Mah'moud This movie wasn’t based off of Disney era show it’s base off of MMPR. Second it had little to no weight what so ever. Nothing about this movies can be taken serious. These kids just cry all movie long about their first world problems and getting over their petty differences (which was majority of the movie) to save the world they didn’t come from different walks of life they were all delinquent, heck I can take RPM more serious then this movie they came from different ways of life. A lot this stuff in the movie didn’t need to be in there.
However you are right about one thing it did have some other series’s elements in there because the director spent a lot of time hinting at other story’s. The whole movie itself set up for sequels and it forgot to be a movie it self and it shows. It was sloppy and it didn’t feel like power rangers at all. The suits were ugly, the morphine time (and the phrase)was pathetic, the fights were sloppy and less spirited then the show and full of crappy CGI, The megazord was disappointing and Goldar was an abomination. And I’m not going to go on about how pointless it was to change these characters because I think you get the point.
They killed the power rangers spirit and destroyed the nostalgia (that could have brought in more people that grew up with the show) just to make it seem serious and in the end it got exactly what it deserves, A flop and a reboot.

I know it was based on MMPR, but they tried to explore MMPR through a different lens and have similarities to Disney and later Saban era shows in personality. A football player, a former cheerleader, a intelligent kid with autism, a new girl who is dealing with her sexuality and a kid who lives in a trailer park with an ailing mom are kids from different walks of life similar to MMPR with the all American jock Everyman, valley girl gymnast, nerd who speaks in multi syllable jargon, a quiet girl who is intelligent and the hip hop loving smooth talker. Just because they have detention together doesn’t make them just delinquents.
Even though it does try hard to set up sequels it was also very much focused on the first movie. The suits weren’t as bad in movement (better than the 1995 plastic Power Ranger suits). And it definitely didn’t kill the spirit. Power Rangers May have been more than a campy Saturday morning tv show with anime and Japanese footage but the movie did capture the heart of PR pretty well
Remember that one power rangers movie where they had 22 of the same colored power rangers but from different universes and that badass villain who could make swords by Pulling out his fucking bones yea that was good times

Made me hate it more. The Power Rangers are supposed to be better than that. Hardly any of the characters were at all likable.
X-Maverick I don't think that Jason went too far when he slapped that bully, but you're right--all the backstories they gave for the characters just made them sound like a bunch of annoying assholes. ESPECIALLY Kim. Billy was the only likeable one for me, but that's only because they didn't give him some dickish backstory.
From my own experience with dealing with bullies, the best way to deter one is through humiliation. Jason could've knocked him out, wrestled him to the ground, scolded him, threatened him...but none of those could've had the impact on the bully than a slap across the face and "what are you, five?" I clapped in the theatre during that scene

The reason this didn't get a sequel was because this movie helped secure him that role and Kimberly's role in Aladdin and now they want too much money to reprise their roles.

It's not like Cinema Sins is some pure form of critique or anything. It's a collection of pet peeves and running jokes, with the occasional hit on actual bad design, w/e. I feel like objecting to them as a "form of film critique" is about as silly as declaring something like Riff Tracks is some form of critique, as opposed to just, functionally, situational comedy that uses the movie as the feed for the jokes.

Honestly, I understand the diversity and such but a black actor doesn't really fit the original L appearance-wise. Well, for the story, I haven't watched it, so I'm hoping for it to be good enough to cover the flaws.
L is supposed to look malnourished, dead, and just like a zombie, tell Idris to step up his game or end his contract or whatever, also light looks like someone in a pre teen band about to die, I hope Mello is Indian, Near is Hispanic, and Matsuda is Arabic/Jewish

L being black is actually a big problem, the character had a lore reason for being white and looking the way he did. He was British, from the specialized school for gifted individuals, and he was part asian.
It was hinted through out the show/ manga that L and Raito (Light) might have the same name. Which is 1 of the rules of the death note.
That added some conflict in the original ark.
Also if you pay attention the kids/people going after Light seemed like to have some form of Autism, like how L always ate sweets never sleeping, always sat in a weird position.
Light is also the son of a japanese police chief, him looking unkempt goes against his character.
He was a self proclaimed genius who thought he was better then anyone else, and extremely bored. He was always well dressed to honor his father.
Which was part of the plot. Who would expect a well to do son of a police chief as the killer of criminals.
He fashioned himself as a god looking to cleanse the world of filth.
"when the situation calls for the Dinobots to become Beast!" That's a real deep cut Transformers joke. I'm removing a sin off this video.

I honestly can't believe how much I enjoyed this movie. It has no right to even be half as good as it is. Its surely not great by any stretch of the imagination, but I was better than a Power Rangers movie in 2017 should have been.

It's better than it should be because the director took the material seriously. This is what happens when directors approach the material from a standpoint of wanting to do the best job they can do. Video game movie directors should take notice.

I just watched this movie and thought: there has to be a Cinema Sins for this movie. Although a lot of the sins can be resolved with magic/super advanced alien technology. Personally, I thought you were going to say something about Red Ranger looking like Zac Efron. Not to mention the scene with the cow makes me feel like his friend is like the knock off Adam Devine. There was also Stranger Things music. There also was a "shit" later in the movie I'm surprised you skipped over. There was also the "different color teenagers" line. As bad as this movie was, I loved it. 10/10 for nostalgia and silliness.

The climax of the movie just wasn't big enough. They just THREW the original song in there & it felt TEN TIMES more cheesy, when it was supposed to feel like 90s action scene. They only power ranger'd for like half a moment. Ugh. I LOVED this movie until they dropped the ball on the power ranger stuff. I like new power ranger stuff, but JUST because they ALWAYS get the ranger stuff right. It's epic & cheesy. Haha.

sad to say, english Power rangers never power ranger'ed. Those were scenes from a japanese tv show. Only english tv show was them not morphed.
If anything their stunt doubles were in the suits and not the actors. THey had the same suits for 3 sentai series and fought the same disposable army for 2 sentai. Had to make new footage for some of it.

hilmanic28 Likewise, I could just as easy say that a quick line from Alpha or Zordon while they monitor the situation could've easily been thrown in too. 5 seconds of them reacting like it's never been done before "since time began" remember, that's a LOOONG ass time for no-one to have needed a MegaZord before now, or for others to not have figured it out in similar situations.
If it was such a big deal that this was the first time EVER, it would've gotten more of a focus than a cynical villain shouting "how". Maybe just Zordon and Rita's team of Rangers never did it, doesn't mean the ones before them didn't.
The zords take the form of the most powerful creatures on earth. Before it was the dinos, but in the present movie time it’s the humans. Hence the megzord transformation was completely new
Samur/Aye it’s explained in the novel that Rangers who’ve been together for years never managed a Megazord. That five untrained teenagers who’ve been fighting in zords for less than a day managed to form a megazord shocked the hell out of her
