    Great review as ever! You're invaluable Andrew.
    I've been second guessing my backordered Aputure 1200d, wondering if two 600d's wouldn't be a better fit for my needs (and more available).
    Then saw the godox and wondered if it might be a similar and cheaper option. Alas, that ~400usd price difference seems fairly worth it for crmx and weather proofing.
    Still, I'm always happy to have more competition in the market! Brings us more features at better prices in the long run.

    Those 26v vmounts can get expensive. Are solar generators by companies like EcoFlow and Bluetti available in Australia? They both make models well over 2000w and they have more modern lithium technology that extends cycle life. Thanks again for your work. It's the Gold Standard.

    My biggest issue with godox is needing 2 different apps to use lights in the same series, and zero way to contact support. All Aputure lights use the same app, which is a feature I assumed would be obvious to any company. Very much doubt we'll buy anymore of their products. Aputure seems like the safest bet.

      Went and looked at his 600D review, the bare COB at 3m of the Aperture light gets 2767 lux vs the 2960 for the M600D (and 2173 for the Forza 500). So it looks like Godox wins.

      Follow-up: The Nanlite Fresnel DOES work beautifully on the Knowled 600. Just for a little extra info, the same Fresnel on the Knowled 300 is not very good, hardly able to shape the light with barndoors. As you said before, the diameter of the COB makes a big difference from modifier to modifier. Thank you!!!

    You said Godox has its own projection mount but which is it for M600D? VSA seems to be for VL300 and below. GP seems to be for MD1200. And then they have some for their cheaper (round) lights as well (SL/SZ/ML). I don't see for M600D? So I'll have to buy Aputure or other third-party? Seems odd.

    Damn, this light is on sale now for euro 1061, seems like a no brainer? Only thing that's stopping me right now is that I need a different kind of stand to hold it up, I only have c-stands. Maybe I don't even need 600 watts, but it's always nice to have more power... maybe 300w is the sweet spot for me. I don't do indie filmmaking stuff, mostly corporate video's.

    Can these high wattage COB lights take the place of HMI lights? Assuming LEDs are 10x more efficient than traditional lights, a 600w COB light should be equivalent to a 5K HMI light. Does this work? Or am I asking the wrong question? What I am really asking is will high power COB lights replace big HMI lights? Or do big HMI lights have other advantages that COB lights don't?

    • @luisa9628
      @luisa9628 2 года назад +2

      LEDs are ~10x more efficient than incandescent lights. HMIs are about ~4x more efficient than incandescent lights. This is all under absolute perfect conditions, which is of course impossible. HMIs are also technically are "closer" to natural daylight spectrum in the blue range.

      @@luisa9628 Thank you for the information.

    • @cagf2013

      Generally LED and HMI are pretty close in terms of wattage vs. output in most practical tests. LED has other advantages like dimming and instant on / off
      Also a well designed traditional tungsten light like a Dedo is not usually 10x less efficient than an LED. A 650w tungsten Dedo puts out about 1100lux at 56 degree full flood at 3 meters. An aputure 300Dii with 2x fresnel attachment is 5000 lux at 3 meters but the beam angle is only 45 degrees.
      Long story short - a well designed tungsten may only be 4x less efficient than an LED Fresnel when both units are well designed and have matching beam angles. Of course the tungsten has pretty much perfect colour render and very nice shadow quality…. Just too many other drawbacks for most people to consider using hot lights these days…

    What!! Your aputure 600d review shows with reflector the center measure 8933 lux at 3m. so this godox one is double the brightness than aputure 600d. That is crazy.

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  2 года назад +2

      Remember thou, not the whole bean is that bright, so not great for a wide shot, but a heap of light for close up high speed stuff

  • @robertharker
    @robertharker 2 года назад

    Do you think these bowens mount fresnels going to take the place of dedicated fresnel lights? For a small to medium size lighting truck they seem to make a lot of sense. They allow you to add a fresnel to any bowens mount light for relatively little cost.
    I have the Nanlight fresnel and it is quite nice. Two drawbacks are that it is heavy so the light needs a c-stand and the case is a drawstring bag which does not allow for stacking of units.

I compared it to the rayzr mc400 on set and it was a easy match but yea i simply can not decide if the 500 w is any good

  •  2 года назад

    Hello Andrew.
    Sorry if this has already been asked but I am curious to know if you plan on reviewing the entry level Aputure panel P60C ?
    I’ll need a kit of 2 1x1 quick and lightweight panels for low budget corporate and mini doc shooting and I am trying to find the best balance of usability, light quality and output/price.
    Luxli Timpani seem to be the perfect solution and better on every aspect but regarding the output, I am not so sure.
    In the meantime Lupo’s superpanels pack a punch but lack remote control and need above 160W batteries which is an issue for me, just as Gemini Hard which also draw 200W and is way overpriced for me anyway.
