    Hi from Calgary! I've been a follower for a few months and have a 2021 white AT4 as well - with Air Lift bags and wireless controller. They are a night and day difference when towing our travel trailer. I recently put on the Borla S type too (It's a must!)

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Год назад

      It adds stiffness, but I knew that going in. I did replace the rear ranchos with Bilsteins and it helps a little, but bag stiffness will always be a thing. For me (not everybody) having them has come in more handy than ever with the way I use my truck.

    • @Donslife

      You technically can but axels, gear ratios, brakes, etc would potentially need to be looked at for upgrading properly as well to tow more safely. These bags are to improve tow quality.

      Bear-
      I had been researching leaf springs vs air bags , and all my research led me to believe, if if I spent a considerable amount of money to beef up my leaf springs on my 07 GMC 2500HD, I’d still have to install airbags in the end to reduce the squat I currently see when I hook up
      to our Gooseneck LQ horse trailer.
      Actually had placed an order last year for some highly recommended Aftermarket Leaf Spring upgrades but after a free weeks of no response or order confirmation from unnamed manufacturer-
      I emailed to cancel any order in process.
      After over a year of looking & considering multiple options,
      I ordered my Airlift Airbags 5000 Ultimate, with on board wireless compressor yesterday,
      Hopefully it will arrive soon & have it on by next weekend.👍

    Thanks for the video. Do these air bags negatively affect ride quality while not towing, assuming I guess you would have the min amount of air (5lbs I think you refrence). I will be towing roughly 8000lbs with my AT4 and I was wondering if just the weight distribution hitch would be enough but considering these. Did you tow with just the WD hitch and found you needed the bags too?

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  2 года назад +1

      You can tow without the bags and just a good WD hitch. I like the bags since where I live there is a lot of cross wind and helps keep thing level and cuts down on body roll around corners. The bags will add a little stiffness to the rear too when not towing.

    Important: No one told me I had to lift the front end at least 2.5 inches at the lower strut or 3 inches at the top as I ended up doing. I'm running pressure at 22 lbs to level my truck. if I had used maybe a 2.5-inch lift I could balance truck level at 10 lbs. Forget about 5 lbs riding without weight. my truck 2008 Sierra 1500 4 wd 4.8 crew cab short box. make sure the lines are equal in length if you are running dual lines. or the one side pumps up faster with the shortest line. coil it up if it's extra, make them equal lentgh good suggestion. Best to yous

I have the 23 At4 and currently have it leveled with 2" ready lift which came with 3" rear blocks to maintain rake but I did not install them because I wanted it to be level. I just bought a camper and will be towing a good bit for work and im stuck between either adding the rear block or getting bags. Whats your opinion on it? If I got bags I would only get the bags and not the compressor because I always have one on me. I wouldn't mind the rake with the 3" block because sometimes my truck looks a little squatted which is very annoying but not sure if it will damage my Bilstein 5100s

    Hi from Kentucky, I have a 2019 Sierra Denali. I have put the Firestone tow bags on the truck and noticed the ride to be more firm when not towing. I don't want to lose the luxury of adaptive ride control suspension. I have had multiple GM techs say load leveling hitches are the way to go. I pull a bass boat weekly. Have you noticed a difference in your ride quality and any experience with load leveling hitches?

    • @Donslife

    How did you fix the rough ride after installing the airbags?

    • @Donslife

      It makes it a little stiffer by adding bags. But swapping out the Ranchos for Bilsteins helped bring the ride back a little

      I double checked airliftcompany.com and it is the right part #. Maybe go to their website too. I don’t know why Amazon is stating it isn’t compatible. 88388, 89388 are both for AT4. One has braided lines.

    Hey Don, thanks for the great video. I have a 2019 AT4 with the 6-1/2” box and a Reese 5th wheel hitch. The 5th wheel hitch uses bolt on brackets (they clamp to the frame). I’m just wondering if the 5th wheel brackets will be in the way of the top bag bracket. Thoughts?

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  2 года назад

      Check if the brackets go directly above the axle or ahead of the axle. If it is above, the hardware might get in the way. You need to be able to slide the ubolts in the gap between the bed floor and the frame.

    Hey Don, how is everyday driving with the bags? Now that youve had them for a while , do you see any difference on eveyday driving and or look of the truck?

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  2 года назад +1

      It’s been good. I was very happy with how the factory lift hasn’t made actual towing less stable. I think the backend is slightly stiffer, but it doesn’t pose an issue for me anyway. I use the truck for truck things, so I am glad they are there. No change to the look of the truck, the back still sits a tiny bit higher than the front like it did before. I have some Bilstein 5100 shocks coming for the front that add 1.1” to the front. I don’t want a completely level truck either since I tow things.

    I just installed these on my 2021 GMC Sierra. It only took one drive to realize they ruined the ride quality. The bags limit the suspension travel and even with 5lbs of air cause an excessively bouncy ride.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  3 года назад

      Hmm. Sorry to hear. Not what I am experiencing on my AT4. Especially when I tow the Travel Trailer, Boat or have a payload. I suspect when I switch to Bilstein 5100 series shocks, it will only get better. At least the air springs are just a bolt on product if you don’t care for them.

    • @swhalstead
      @swhalstead 3 года назад

      @@Donslife I wonder if your 2” lift on the at4 is enough to make a difference in the ride. My stock height gmc doesn’t leave much room between the axle and the frame.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  3 года назад +1

      I was thinking the same. Also some bags have an internal jounce bumper inside the bag. Maybe you are hitting it if yours has one? Mine does but I don’t think I’ve made contact with mine.
