Performing a wheelie on a bicycle involves a combination of balance, strength, and control. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you learn how to wheelie on a bicycle: ### 1. **Preparation** - **Bike:** A mountain bike or BMX bike is ideal due to their sturdiness and geometry. - **Location:** Find a flat, open area with a smooth surface, such as an empty parking lot or a quiet street. - **Gear:** Wear a helmet and other protective gear like gloves and knee pads for safety. ### 2. **Basic Technique** 1. **Starting Position:** - Sit on the saddle with your pedals at a horizontal position (3 and 9 o'clock). - Maintain a firm grip on the handlebars. 2. **Initial Movement:** - Start at a moderate speed. - Lean your upper body slightly forward. 3. **Lifting the Front Wheel:** - Shift your weight backward by leaning back. - Simultaneously, pull up on the handlebars and pedal hard with your dominant foot. 4. **Balancing:** - Keep your arms straight but relaxed. - Continue pedaling smoothly to maintain momentum and balance. - Use your body weight to control the angle of the front wheel. Lean back more to lift the wheel higher and lean forward slightly to lower it. 5. **Using the Rear Brake:** - Gently tap the rear brake if you feel like you’re tipping too far backward. This will bring the front wheel down. ### 3. **Tips for Success** - **Smooth Movements:** Avoid jerky motions. Smoothly shift your weight and apply power. - **Look Ahead:** Keep your eyes forward, not on the front wheel, to help maintain balance. - **Consistent Pedaling:** Keep pedaling to maintain your momentum and balance. - **Body Position:** Your body position is crucial for balance. Experiment with leaning back and forth to find the sweet spot. ### 4. **Practice** - Start with small lifts to get a feel for the balance point. - Gradually increase the height and duration of your wheelies as you become more comfortable. - Practice regularly to build muscle memory and confidence. ### 5. **Safety** - Always wear protective gear. - Start in a safe, controlled environment. - Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid practicing near traffic or obstacles. With time and practice, you’ll improve your wheelie technique and be able to hold wheelies for longer distances. Stay patient and persistent!
Nice! Try lowering the seat and focus more on finding your balance point, it might even help to lower your gear and practice bailing off the back. Also practice modulation on your rear brake
Not falling sideways is about pulling evenly with arms to go straight and looking forward. Also, if you want, I will make video teaching tips for bike control in general.
@@wildandy thats not my problem, my problem is that im not sitting correctly and im falling sideways. I need to be lucky to not encounter this. Im trying to fix this but im still falling. I think I need more practice.
Good Job! Here are some tips I used and helped me a lot lower your seat and use 1 finger on the brakes so you don’t fall back when you wheelie and keep trying
I would say to put it in gear 5 or 6 and bail off the back a couple times then practice with the brake then lower seat. It will make you feel much more comfortable.
Tip: don’t be in a low gear be in a quite high gear but not too high, when you are going faster it’s easy to control. I know it sounds crazy but trust me
Everything was great except the keeping your arms extended part. You always want to keep them slight bent because you need to constantly adjust your weight transfer. Cant do this with straight arms, same thing as bending knees on a skateboard. No one skates standing straight up with locked knees lol
Try going in a middle gear rather than the lowest gear and also put you seat almost all the way down. The seat height will make it easier to balance side to side and the gear will make the front come up easier as you won't need to peddle as fast
On bigger bikes you should probably put it on gear 2, that way you can lift the front wheel more. I hope it helps! (Im not sure if that is the problem)
Tip for bailing: if you go to afr and it feels uncomfortable put your feet out and you will slide of your seat and then you safely bail but I'm at the point where I just jump of
The only thing that’s keeping ur wheel up is u pedalling, if you lower the seat and use the back brake to find ur balance point you can stop pedalling for a few seconds and keep going
Sorry, the video was supposed to be "learning to wheelie in 30 seconds" but I forgot to change it, I have been practicing and will post a part 2 soon now that I am better
You don’t want to put it on the easiest gear you want to put it on a gear that has enough torque to still get that front end up, but you won’t run out of speed immediately
To get the front wheel up make sure you sit down and use your power from your legs to lift the front wheel. It's a common misconception that you have to stand up and pull up on the bars. Imagine if be8ng like a dragster, they just lift their front wheels from sheer power, use that same concept
Stop looking at your tire u need to look at something in the distance to help balance because when y ok look at your wheel your head is over the balance point cause I g you to fall forward!🌞👍
im gonna give u some tips, if u are trying to wheelie try lowering ur seat and using the back break if u fall back, and try putting ur gear to maybe 4 or 3
Thanks for your input! My lowest gear is pretty fast, so on different bikes the lowest gear is usually slower. Basically I just meant that you need a slower gear so you it is easier to kick the front wheel up.
ok now what this guy did wrong was adjust it to the easiest gear you want the gear at 5 or 4 ofc thats more easy for most people and another thing he did wrong was look down at the wheel you don't want to do that by doing that your mass will fall forward and you will barely be able to hold for 5 sec you gotta look up or over the bars ig thats the correct way
I find it easier to look a little ahead instead of onto the ground for better balance. Also if you get more momentum it is easier to keep going on the back wheel. The main thing is to practice the pedal power and brake control so you stay in the wheelie. Hope this helps!
Gear to easy and seat to high First if you have 3x7 go to 1 5 than bring your seat into a comfortable height but higher than normal than preload down pull up sit back and moderate that back brake
I used to try the saddle all the way up but I kept going back and sack tapping myself so I had to put it down and try on a harder gear, it ain’t lookin too good for me
That’s not how you do you want to see all the way down you want it in a medium hard gear so you can lift up easy and keep peddling easy and once you get the rhythm of lifting up in paddling quick, you want to
Sorry for saying 'easiest gear'... On my bike the easiest one is considered 'medium hard' because it is a downhill rear cassette so they are a lot faster... Thanks for the comment!

Nah his seat hight was fine, I’d probably go up a couple gears and practice brake modulation
@@zebfail480 he need to lower a little
@@raresdumitru3330 nah you need your legs straight ish
@@zebfail480 no u really do need to lower the seat i ride with mine all the way down and i wheelie more than i ride on 2 wheels
Thank you so much I tried watching so many othe vids but they did not work but yours worked like magic thank you so much keep it up
I'm glad you found this helpful! 😁
Literally everyone in the RUclips only teaches these steps but nobody teaches how to control the bike falling sideways

Fun tip stand up and when you pull up/your chest back sit down (works better for me

Thanks Hrishi!
I usually do seat in the middle, 3-5th gest
King of teaching how to willie
Not me being to weak to not be able to lift the front up💀
I would say to put it in gear 5 or 6 and bail off the back a couple times then practice with the brake then lower seat. It will make you feel much more comfortable.
Very good tips here, thanks!
I thought the beginning on the music was your brakes!😂
My brakes were in need of changing during this video. They were changed two days after.
Not bad for one day you know 👍
Tip: don’t be in a low gear be in a quite high gear but not too high, when you are going faster it’s easy to control. I know it sounds crazy but trust me
Put your seat half way up, not all the way, also have a little bend in your arms for maneuverability
Thanks for the tips!
Since when do you extend your arms?
when pulling up
“WheEEeel”
Everything was great except the keeping your arms extended part. You always want to keep them slight bent because you need to constantly adjust your weight transfer. Cant do this with straight arms, same thing as bending knees on a skateboard. No one skates standing straight up with locked knees lol
I just meant that you shouldn't control the balance by leaning forward and backward because instead you should use the brake and pedals to do that.
@@wildandy I agree but regardless, always slightly bent arms. Never locked.
Try it with the seat low and then when you’re in the air doing a wheelie, push your shit up and you’re good
Thanks for the tip!
My strat is to get the front wheel angle to about a 75 degree angle so you don't have to struggle to keep it up.
How to wheelie- be stronk, pedal and break lightly whenever u feel like ur gonna fall back
nice🤝
Try going in a middle gear rather than the lowest gear and also put you seat almost all the way down. The seat height will make it easier to balance side to side and the gear will make the front come up easier as you won't need to peddle as fast
Practice makes man perfect 😊😊
I suggest looking forward or the front wheel will go down and you need to lower the seat all the way but lift it up a little
This works on your shitter hard tail with 8 gears, try lowering the post, find a different gear and balance point to keep it going
Okay🫡
Another tip always look straight forwards and not look at the wheel it helps with wheelie’s
On bigger bikes you should probably put it on gear 2, that way you can lift the front wheel more. I hope it helps! (Im not sure if that is the problem)
The problem is to learn to bail, because then you get confidence and are able to go into the balance point easier.
Tip for bailing: if you go to afr and it feels uncomfortable put your feet out and you will slide of your seat and then you safely bail but I'm at the point where I just jump of
You got it keep practicing for 3hrs a day
The end music 💀💀💀
lol
Lower your seat, use a higher gear, find your balance point and keep yourself there using the back brake and pedal
Thanks
The only thing that’s keeping ur wheel up is u pedalling, if you lower the seat and use the back brake to find ur balance point you can stop pedalling for a few seconds and keep going
Someone that can't wheelie teaching us how to wheelie amazing..
Sorry, the video was supposed to be "learning to wheelie in 30 seconds" but I forgot to change it, I have been practicing and will post a part 2 soon now that I am better
Higher gear guys this means u can be on ur balance point longer😊
You don’t want to put it on the easiest gear you want to put it on a gear that has enough torque to still get that front end up, but you won’t run out of speed immediately
Okay, thanks for the tip Michael

Once you sort of get the hang of it up your gear. It becomes easier to balance and you can go a lot further. Also learn how to use your rear brake.

Lower the seat the harder but it looks better. Wheelies are easy anyhow
That’s a pretty good tutorial but normally u don’t do it in the very lowest gear
Thanks for your input! My lowest gear is pretty fast, so on different bikes the lowest gear is usually slower. Basically I just meant that you need a slower gear so you it is easier to kick the front wheel up.
Nice but I would recommend going in gear one and four
Bro got bear spray
It is necessary in British Columbia. I see them all the time.
What dropper post are you using?
It is the original with the bike. It is a specialized fuse, medium, 2021...
ok now what this guy did wrong was adjust it to the easiest gear you want the gear at 5 or 4 ofc thats more easy for most people and another thing he did wrong was look down at the wheel you don't want to do that by doing that your mass will fall forward and you will barely be able to hold for 5 sec you gotta look up or over the bars ig thats the correct way

Practice getting your balance points an lean back more push down on you suspension and pull up then straighten you arms
Good tutorial but put your gears up so you go further for longer
I managed to lift my bike enough to do a wheelie by practicing these steps tho I couldn't keep it in the air
I find it easier to look a little ahead instead of onto the ground for better balance. Also if you get more momentum it is easier to keep going on the back wheel. The main thing is to practice the pedal power and brake control so you stay in the wheelie. Hope this helps!

good try but try lowering the saddle because you will have more thrust
You can actually just skip the first step and get the front wheel up only with leaning back
Also go for a more medium gear like 3rd or something! You will see a lot of progress
Thanks! I will try that!😀
@@wildandy okay good luck :D
I find it easier on the hardest gear for some reason
It's easier once your front wheel is up. But getting the wheel up is easier on an easier gear.
what is easiest gear
the easiest one
What type of bike is it? Is it a mountain bike or a dirt jumper?
Mountain bike
It is a "Specialized Fuse", it is a hardtail trail bike
What bike do you have
Specialized Fuse with some mods (It's a hardtail)
Nice bike.what bike you ride?
It's the specialized fuse, slightly modified
Seat a little bit down and harder gear❤😊
I learned a wheelie in like 1 hour earlier today
cool
Thanks
Gear 3-5 seat half long or down
The song sounds like brakes
Thanks dude
Happy to help
Wheelie 🚀
i wheelie with the seat the lowest. lower it is more control. higher it is easier to pop.
Cool! This bike isn't like normal bikes, with a low seat its almost impossible to get a good pop.
Personally I like to have my seat down and do like what you do in a manual and then sit down
I have my seat low and I’m always in a mid gear
Yeah same I'm usually in gear 4 or 5 or even some times 6
Heres the thing, my gear shifter aint shifting
Try gearing the shift then
@@wildandy it won't shift..
Man i can't raise my Seat if i do i can't sit on the bike😂
😂😂
Thanks 🙏
No one says which gear to select..
Thankfully, I found this video.
Don’t stop peddling just use your brake
I like my seat to be down when I do wheelies
Depends on the bike, do what feels right.
I might be crazy but that looks like a DH groupset
maybe🙃
Bro say he want to learn how to wheeLle
Don’t put seat at highest point and easiest gear just find balance point
Thank you for your advice!
Is that the specialized fuse?
Yes. Great Observation!
What bike is that
Specialized Fuse
Now how do it with a heavy mtb?
Lean back a bit while wheeling its a lot easier
Does it work I’m gonna try soon?
For more info if you want to do it longer you need to have a stronger gear.
Don't thank me 💪😎
thank you 😎
Idd recomend to sit and not stand up makes it wayy easier
For me when I did it with the easiest gear [gear1] it was hard but when I did it on the highest gear [gear6] I did it first try
Nice nice now if you want try to find you balance point and tap your rear breaks to go further away
Okay, I'll try that
Also try and sit down when the front wheel is in the air
Will try!
THANK YOU BROTHER❤️
🤝
Good job
Thanks Max!
What gear tho is it 3 then 7?
you need a gear to make it easy to keep the front wheel up, but not too easy so you don't have to peddle really fast... it's different for every bike
I used to try the saddle all the way up but I kept going back and sack tapping myself so I had to put it down and try on a harder gear, it ain’t lookin too good for me
Everyone does it a different way, just keep trying different methods and put in practice and you can do it! Keep learning!
Name bike??
FUSE Specialized 2021. Upgraded Forks, Derailleur, and Oval Crank Set.
There’s a lot of different ways to do it I recommend seat alll the way down

Don’t need the seat if your capable enough
That’s not how you do you want to see all the way down you want it in a medium hard gear so you can lift up easy and keep peddling easy and once you get the rhythm of lifting up in paddling quick, you want to
