Verdant succession is pretty dumb with spykit though, if you get both and a sac outlet you can go grab worldspine wurm, equip for 2, sac it, make 3 5/5s and it's repeatable (since it shuffles itself), for every 2 mana you can make 3 5/5s. You can even go grab craterhoof and a haste enabler with it, all it takes is mana in a green deck and it's obviously game over if the sac outlet is altar.
Other fun cards with Spy Kit: Eradicate, Ardenn, Echoing Truth, Echoing Decay, Eye of Singularity, Remembrance, Bazaar of Wonders, Deputy of Detention, and Detention Sphere. The deck "Same Name, Different Shenanigans" on Moxfield uses most of those.
To Seth's credit, Richard's decks both lose guaranteed to a single removal piece, while his can at least attempt to recover. The latter half of that second game looked miserable for Richard, I have to give him props for not conceding.
I did like the novelty of being the only MTGO commander show, but I love this format of the show as well as the personalities still shine bright. And they get to use ALL the cards!
Never is probably a bit harsh. I would be very surprised if we returned to doing Clash full time on MTGO, but I also think there will be some MTGO episodes on occasion for certain themes.
It's just hard when you get all these cool cards but WOTC won't do their part to make sure players can play the game. Even on the client that should be the easiest for people to build a collection.
I’m surprised Richard is the only one who seemed to be playing surveil lands, particularly with all the fetched around the table. It seems so much better to have that as an option to fetch out so you aren’t fetching cycling duals or triomes unless you need the 3 colors
Now that you play in paper, have you considered playing with weird rulesets? I specifically want to suggest "Everyone starts with a Panharmonicon emblem" for Seth week.
Crim: *Instantly removes Phil's 2 drop* Phil: *plays 3 drop" Crim: "Hey you should give me a powerstone you never do anything for me" Sorry Crim, you lost powerstone privileges.
Seth's no creature deck is really cool! never thought about playing Court of Vantress and giving someone else the monarch to make them the archenemy! Seth really showing this deck building skills this episode! :D
just built marvo with eye of the storm, teferi, worst fears, alrund epiphany nanogene conversion and clones for all the attack triggers!! INFINITE OCTPUS ATTACKS
On this week of "Punt or Bluff?" things are smarter than they appear. Will Crim "BIG BRAIN" just do `totally normal` things or will Richard learn from the best to inch out the win? Tune-in to find out!
Standing ovation to Richard's first deck lol. Only addition I would make is adding in the original Bosejiu to make sure the combo doesn't get disrupted.
heres an idea for an episode - everyone is randomly given one of the player archetypes (timmy, johnny, spike, etc.) and has to make a deck based off of that
@@spumy_plughole1191that was moreso my idea, getting to see everybody make decks differently than how they usually do. forcing crim to make a vorthos deck would be funny.
I actually run a spy kit deck that seems to be a little more consistent than this. It uses Ardenn and Silas Renn as partner commanders. Ardenn can equip the spy kit onto opponent's creatures, so you can skip out on needing Zedruu to donate, and Silas is just generically good recursion for artifacts, and a surprisingly good addition to an equipment deck. Recently, I've been enjoying cryptic coat and the end as new toys for the deck. It also can do cool thopter sword things, and plays a bunch of the transmogrify equipments as threats that Ardenn can cheat onto creatures.
As much as I enjoy seeing you guys play in paper, I really hope future seasons go back to MTGO. It’s so refreshing having you guys play on MTGO in the endless landscape of webcam commander channels.
Manifold Key is a powered down Voltaic Key in my opinion. Manifold Key's untap ability has to target another artifact, while Voltaic Key can target itself. This may sound weird, but it is key to infinite mana combos with Rings of Bright Hearth plus a rock that makes 4+ mana. The unblockability for 3 mana on Manifold key almost virtually never gets activated in artifact decks, which is where Manifold and Voltaic key find there best homes.
I run a Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire deck with 97 lands, Sickening Dreams, and Ad Nauseum. It uses Glacial Chasm to prevent the damage from Sickening Dreams.
I have a deck similar to Richard's - the whole deck costs 63 cmc total. I'm down to 45 lands though, and I run ALL the tutors, plus ALL the fast 0-2 mana artifact ramp. I kill with Exsanguinate or Tendrils, and have Krark-Clan Ironworks and Skirge Familiar for extra mana. I can't draw the whole deck (unless I go off a second time), but I can always get around 30+ cards, which is enough.
Very fun episode as always. I wonder if, its being played spelltable, would people prefer the camera feed for the two players on top to be flipped, so that nobody's board is upsidedown?
The first sliver, Cascades into Tibalt’s Trickery targeting The First Sliver, hopefully don’t mill the win con, get Cultivator Colossus, with the trigger get the Mazes End win con set up. Win next turn
Sidisi can’t get the tutor by sacrificing itself. It can sacrifice itself on the trigger, but it resolves without effect, because exploit is “when (this creature) exploits a creature”, and it’s no longer on the battlefield at point of resolution.
actually, it does see itself getting exploited so it's triggered ability does trigger. if sidisi were to be somehow removed before it were able to exploit itself, then the exploit fizzles and the tutor doesn't happen
i play a cEDH deck with varragoth, bloodsky sire as the commander. the total mana value of the deck is 38 not including naus, and if you get him out t1 (easy in cedh) it’s a turn 3 kill
Not Richard reminding me of all the lands I've used and abused 😅 the storage counter lands with voral of the hull clade was an in my very first paper edh deck
"Decks so dumb they're brilliant" implies the deck functions on level 2, with level 1 being a normally built Commander deck. Crim's deck is definitely a level 1 deck, but the others are level 2. He just built the deck that the Commander clearly asks you to build, while the others took a novel approach to their Commanders. Basically, everyone else brought a creative deck and Crim brought Counterbalance tribal for a Commander that asks you to play Counterbalance.
When he pulled out the maelstrom wanderer after the first game, I assumed he’s doing what my maelstrom wanderer meme deck does (mine doesn’t have any nice lands like his deck). Haven’t finished the video yet so we’ll see what his does
38:20 the kiki-jiki wasn't on the battlefield yet, right? the second cascade happens before the first one resolves so this removal shouldn't have worked
Did Phil really think a free lighting bolt every turn with artifact synergies wouldn't be good. You opponents get to choose sure, but it quickly gets to the point where they have no good choices with how many ways there are to untap artifacts
I’m so happy with Richard’s decks the wondered deck is something I’ve talked about for a while but never built bc you can only play it once with a play group. It was so awesome to see somebody do it
I ve a copuple of decks (also in paper) So Dumb They're Brilliant. One based on eternal dominion as wincon (copied 3 times) with mnemonic deluge. I've tried so many commander to find one who would fit with the stratedy. I could send you some of my lists/masterpieces
I always really liked Seth but his messy board just make me to hate him more and more every week! Can you give him some playmat with lines, every card he plays is half tapped already :D Graveyard included
"I think you're abusing the social contract" Seth succinctly describes Richard's strategy in every Commander game hahaha.
The social contract is his secret commander
Seth deck is the kind of deck that only does something on the 8th uninterrupted combo piece played, whereas Richard's decks both win off the first.
Verdant succession is pretty dumb with spykit though, if you get both and a sac outlet you can go grab worldspine wurm, equip for 2, sac it, make 3 5/5s and it's repeatable (since it shuffles itself), for every 2 mana you can make 3 5/5s. Announcing that a card is your hidden commander to the table is like casting a removal spell on it
I think if you're playing with friends, intentionally leaving out information like "this is the card I built my deck around" is a little dishonest.
@@SmashCentralOfficial It's not dishonest - it's playing strategically.
@@wchenful acting like your card isn't a big deal and then uptapping and winning the game isnt "strategy".
@@SmashCentralOfficial ok, then what is strategy?
@@wchenful a million other things besides trying to do a "gotcha" on your friends? :S
Richard is having WAY too much fun this week! xD
That Karn surfing 3d popout HAHAHAHAHAHA! That is amazing!
Richard on the "this podcas couldve been an article" confirmed that they won't go back to MTGO

Honestly Richard should have just had all of the creature lands possible for his second deck.
very cool deck Richard, thank you for not playing it twice.

I love how Crim's just playing an actual deck xD
Sweaty crim am I right please give me reddit gold
Nice combo richard that was awesome
Phil's house look so tidy and cozy, crim's background is just a mess lol. Also, is that a crowsurfing karn on crim's table, where he got that?
Phil is German. Confirmed
Someone gave Crim the Karn at Magic Con Chicago I believe.
Richard that was a crazy first game. Made my day ahahah
I am loving seeing everybody enjoy these high powered games. I am loving this.
9:42 Did the editor wake Crim in the middle of the day (night for him) to have him narrate what Marvo does?
Yes lol
It’s nice to see you guys off MTGO! This is so much nicer to watch
omg! Crim has a crowd surfing Karn XD
I can't believe seth isn't running Psychic Paper
I honestly didn't know that was a card until right now. Seems like a good addition to the deck for sure.
Seth's no creature deck is really cool! never thought about playing Court of Vantress and giving someone else the monarch to make them the archenemy! Seth really showing this deck building skills this episode! :D
Really fun episode, love the creativity of the decks!
Richard saw Seth play Laelia in Brawl and said "hold my beer"
just built marvo with eye of the storm, teferi, worst fears, alrund epiphany nanogene conversion and clones for all the attack triggers!! INFINITE OCTPUS ATTACKS

Crim, I have started using "City of Ass" in my deck in place of City of Brass and it is always a conversation piece.
Thank you for giving Marvo a good showing. The games were fun to watch!
Seth if you ever revisit the spy kit plan, use Ardenn as a partner pair, yes you only get 3 colors but you can equip the kit to an opponent’s creature
I love how paranoid everyone was after Richard just dropped a Nuke on the table during Game one
I love this group's dynamic.
"My spells can't be countered - _Crim."_
"Can _that_ be countered?"
"...yes..."
I LOVE MARVO SO MUCH! THANKS FOR PLAYING HIM

Why did crim counter phils artifact when richard did the most obvious i have a combo deck play ive ever seen with that sidisi cast with no permanents
