Disclaimer: Do it at your own risk. Gases emitted from the battery are CO2 / C2H4 and CO. CO is a harmful gas. Take precautions. I've used good ventilation here. I have covered the punch holes with an M3 tape but I have missed recording that to the video. Punching holes exposes the Li-Ion battery to the atmosphere may cause reactions inside which may be a recipe for a fire. Li-ion battery fire is super hot that it may melt aluminum. Take precautions.
Great! Just tried this on a late 2013 15" MBP I got from ebay with only 89 cycles and battery heath of 95% still. The battery was heavily puffed like in the video and trackpad wouldn't press. Followed this video and taped the holes. Initially without taping there was the sweet smell from battery gas coming through air exhaust. Now I get like close to 5hrs for video/light tasks. For heavy stuff it's about 2.5hrs. Hopefully it will last for a year atleast I hope.
I’m about to do this and I would suggest to make sure the MacBook is cold (winter time) so the battery’s are under least stress and also run them dead prior to popping them to release the air. Then pop them and put tape over the hole and charge it back up and check battery health. Next, buy new battery’s soon as this is just a bandaid for very short term use.
I have the same problem on my 2016 model.. Is your macbook still working after the puncture? Edit: it really worked for me.. just be careful while puncturing.. don’t puncture directly like stabbing way, just make an angle of like 30-40 degree then puncture.. best of luck guys..✌️✌️👌
Thanks for the effort , and thanks for showing the whole process.........I would only add that to make it better , you make a really close up with GOOD lighting and no obstructions of the views, of the sceene when you puncture the battery......that is the most relevant and important part of the whole video, and if you screw it you can set a fire, shortcircuit the battery or blow your hand. Thanks -
it will work for several months but you must work towards getting a new battery if u dont it will eventually stop working and your mac wont power on. it may be wise to just get a new battery right off.
Wonderful way to save money! I've done this many times myself and I've never caused any fire so this is a really nice way to avoid having to replace the battery
That is true. And you can save your money for better things. The only way that someone may cause fire doing this is by punching the battery so hard which anode and cathode will get intact. If you punch the battery in an angular direction that is almost never going to happen.
im gonna do this... !!! i have gk5CN-00-13-4s1p-0 swollen battery... can it fix it?? just tiny little hole on upper right? do i have to empty the battery? or like 50%? i want to do this cuz my country dont have this battery (gk5CN-00-13-4s1p-0), i search over and over again to many online shop, but nothing ... tooi hard to find this battery, only available on other country, and the price is damn high... like 2.5 times much expensive if i order and shipping to indonesia..
yoooooo im back!!!!!!!!! already do it !! first try, my hand are shaking dude!! but after that, nothing hapen and im not smelling anything weird, instead I smell a little fragrant , you must know, I even prepared a wet towel if anything happen... lol! then after finish i covered that hole with tape, whoala... my battery is slim again! thanks to you!!
@@Pramishsatyal2010 im still using it, until now, so far so good... and the battery is still good too, 50 minutes- 1 hour full performance mode , and 2 hour if i just normal mode...
can i use super glue to cover holes since the hole i make is so small, any reaction between glue and the chemicals in the battery just incase some of the glue went in? i want it as not noticeable as possible, i'm still eligible in keyboard replacement program just incase my butterfly key went nuts.
This Macbook is currently running smoothly. There is no issue presented at all after the fix. Make sure you cover the punch holes right after the air went out. sooner the better. When you have a swollen battery it damages your touchpad due to the pressure and eventually breaks it out. you must get rid of the swollen battery before it is too late. one way or another.
@@usasupra23 I was not using the macbook at that time, so it must be in a cold state. I just followed the steps in the video and comment section. Openup the mac used the thinnest needle punched the holes -> covered it immediately using a tape after the air is released close the macbook use it I am still running on the same battery.
@@nibbanapatipada9538 thanks, mine is a 2016 pro and my battery health meter says the battery is great so I just want to deflate them and then trade it in for a new one. I hope it will hold a charge for 2 weeks after I do this? Should I run the battery down to 20% and pop them when they are nice and cool to avoid any issues or does it not matter?

I just did, worked well. Thanks… keep sharing tech guides like this… with its cautions and directions…
I did it and everything went great! Thank you very much for sharing this. Best regards!
Glad it helped!

I am afraid that super glue is a good option. Do not do that.
@@goinside7909 yes you are right, just tape is enough, its only a temporary fix though.i have already replaced my battery with a new one.
Still work?
How come you did not show the computer turn on after supposedly fixing the problem. Us viewers wanted to see the computer turning on.
Bro is your laptop still working well with this punctured battery?
Yes, it still works like a horse.
I think this is the only solution i can take now since i can't go out due to Covid pandemic!
Dear Sir, Great video. Is it dangerous to use taped batteries? And dangerous gases will destroy Macbook? Best regards
if you do it correctly, nothing will happen. put the tapes right after you punch the holes and trapped air is out.

Good to hear
Did you run the battery’s down first or make sure they were very cool etc? What steps did you take?

Openup the mac
used the thinnest needle
punched the holes -> covered it immediately using a tape after the air is released
close the macbook
use it
