There's a scene in this movie that famously caused a lot of VCR tapes to be damaged by excessive pausing.
LOL
I don't know what you could possibly mean...
LOL i came here just to say that. I worked at a video store and there were always those tracking marks or whatever on that scene.
In my opinion, the hottest scene is the Johnny boz murder scene
What the credits?
Next hot and flustered Dasha reaction = "Wild Things."
Maybe "Fatal Attraction" before that one.
Nope, Showgirls is the next one
We'll know she found a good one when she has to interrupt the vid and run to the bathroom...for about 15, 20 minutes...and forgets to pause the vid 😂❤
Wild Things please!
Of def
LMAO! “At least he died doing what he loved.” Now that was funny.
This is one of the best psychological thrillers ever imo. Great performances by Douglas and Stone, directing by Paul "Robocop" Verhoven, and a really really smart script. Keeps you guessing right 'til the end. And yes, the sex scenes were VERY controversial at the time. Mainstream films did not show sex scenes like they did in Basic Instinct. Like he did with Robocop and its ultra violence, Verhoven changed the way sex and "hotness" was shown in mainstream films.
There’s a lot to be controversial, to be honest. But in hindsight, I think we could all agree this movie was what would later inspire other movies to improve upon this movie’s ideas. Gone Girl being a great example.
Who knew watching Dasha be hot and bothered for the whole movie would be so much fun eh 😂
Watching Dasha being Luke Warm is fun enough already let alone...
15:21 "Okay. So _everyone,_ in their houses, have _ice_ picks? I've never even heard of this thing."
Once upon a time, they were a _lot_ more popular than they are, now. It used to be, instead of refrigerators, people had _ice_ boxes that could only keep things cool until the blocks of _ice_ they received, once a day, melted. People kept ice in _much_ larger blocks that took a while to melt. That meant, if you wanted to put ice in your drink, you had to use the ice pick to break _off_ pieces of that block of ice.
Their use faded as modern _refrigerators_ became more available, and people didn't have to keep restocking them with ice to keep them cool. Nowadays, they're largely obsolete.
13:40, the movie in the background is called "Hellraiser". I think it would be a good one to check out!
Well, gee, it is cool to see Dasha watch something in this genre. I think she handled it like a pro reviewer w/o losing her sensitive edge. Dasha, the word for the road was curvy, & the movie was curvy too. Great job, D. 😊👍🏻
So were Sharon and Jeanne!
"Five guys undressing her with their eyes."
Me: In five minutes, they won't need too. 🐈⬛
That came out so weirdly, and you know why.....
And now follow it up by watching Bill Hicks Basic Instinct routine to put it all in context
I'm imagining a summary of this movie cut down to RUclips "advertiser-friendly" standards: "During the first scene... something happened. Then detectives investigated and... things happened. Then at the end... something happened. The End."
The thing is, I was under the impression that channels could state what type of content they made, and what advertisers they'd be willing to pair with. If they aren't a family-friendly channel, why censor content to suit advertisers that wouldn't want to pair with them any way? Surely content guidelines aren't being written to match the 'lowest common denominator' in terms of restriction?
Since you liked this, you'll have to watch "Body Heat" and "Fatal Attraction" (michael douglas stars in this one too), the other two classic erotic thrillers of that era.
You'd like "Romancing the Stone" too probably, a much more light hearted romantic adventure but Michael Douglas as well
25:12 I guess Gus "asked for the rough sex" too, but he seemed to skip the good parts and did not die "doing what he loved."
Poor Gus!
7:04 "You cannot fool the machine."
"I know people that have _done_ it."
It's really not that hard.
I just said it (differently) elsewhere, but I can’t overstate how incredible this movie is. Too many people saw it purely for the wrong reasons, and I can’t in any way blame them. In 1992, Sharon Stone was arguably the hottest woman on the planet, and she’s nude for a lot of it. But this film was so much more, and I’m so glad some more people are reacting to it. Verhoeven does a bang-up job of replicating or even surpassing Vertigo as a San Francisco shoot, and Sharon Stone delivers a master class in eye work and delivering multiple levels of motivation simultaneously.
24:09 "i think she just won." 🏆
6:20 I certainly know what I'm going to be doing tonight 😁. And when I do, it won't be Sharon Stone I will be thinking of 😏.
26:50 "Yeah. And I thought it's been ten minutes without any sex scenes."
😆😆😆
Gee Dasha, your reaction made all the young men watching your reaction video cross their legs too. 😆
Roxy deserved an Oscar for her performance
"Body Heat" or "Romancing the Stone" if you haven't watched them.
Yes on Romancing the Stone😃
Up until the 1930's in the US (and most of the rest of the world) people had ice boxes. They were wood cabinets with tin or galvanized steel liners and where insulated with straw or sawdust. Everyday the ice man came down the street with his ice wagon and people would buy a block of ice and he would grab these huge tongs and carry the ice into your house. If you wanted ice in your drink, you had to chip it off the block with a ice pick. After the 30's most houses had electricy, and refrigerators started taking over. They had a small freezer section that you could put ice cube trays in. So nowadays the ice pick is just a relic of the past. Unless you have something against cubes and want chips.
It's a great film, it's what's known as a 'Neo Noir' a modern version of the old 'Film Noir', it has everything, a Femme Fatale, dubious Police Officers, mystery, crime, sex, etc.
There are a lot of tropes in this movie if you are familiar with detective fiction, especially of 50's noir fiction. It's cool seeing them transplanted by 50 years - the ice-cold femme fatale in trouble, the damaged detective, the murky underworld, the fast dialogue with implications about who knows what. All packaged up with genuinely sexy actors and a sleazy soundtrack - this is a teenage boy's dream movie in the 90's. Unedited VHS copies of this movie were worth a lot in my school lol.
That beach house is in Carmel Highlands. Carmel is a popular weekend getaway for the San Francisco Bay area citizens. Its the only California beach your almost guaranteed to see someone famous walking around.
The other house owned by Catherine in San Francisco is in the Pacific Heights area. Both locations are great for restaurants, shopping and art galleries. My wife I lived their for 15 years and loved now its a mess. The Mayor and other city officials allowing the city to fall apart.
Hey Dasha.
Basic Instinct is a fantastic movie.
So well written as well as having the perfect actors/ actresses for film
There is another great movie like this, also starting Sharon Stone called ' Sliver '
Another that might grab your attention is called " Body of Evidence " staring Maddona.
Not only can or could she sing but acted too and have to say, this one is fantastic and may be worth you seeing.
Another wonderful reaction.
Hope you cooled down after seeing the movie? 😂😂
Have a fantastic day, take care hun. ❤😍🔥
Next time she films a reaction vid to something like this, she needs to have a guy with her 🌡️😏😅
The European release is much more explicit than the American release ! 🙃
Not surprising. Bet there were more shots of the stabbing though.
For Sharon Stone you should check out The Specialist and for a Michael Douglas detective film Black Rain.
I don't think I should watch Dasha react to movies like this. You are so pretty and sweet it's almost impossible to keep the mind right when you start talking in this. (don't even remember what movie it was) 😇
I love this movie. It's a masterclass of psychological suspense.
I like seeing this side of Dasha. 🥰😂😊
Another great movie with Michael Douglas in it is, “Wall Street. It also stars Charlie Sheen and his father Martin Sheen.
I agree, this is an amazing movie. A physiological thriller loaded with a ton of suspense and tension. This movie made Sharon Stone into a movie star with her incredible performance. Michael Douglas was also excellent in this movie and they had excellent chemistry together. Adding the sexual overtones and you have the ingredients of a great thriller. The sexuality of Catherine was incredible and her ability to melt the minds of the investigators, including Nick.
I think the natural segway from this has to be the OG film, which is of course '9 1/2 Weeks'.
6:39 In preparation for this scene, they told Miss Stone not to wear underwear. She was averse, but they reassured her that no one would really be able to see her lady bits, and then, when she saw the movie, this scene ended up incurring a little _indignation_ from her.
More than a litte indignation, as I recall. She was furious! I think she saw the movie for the first time at the premiere.
Hi Dasha!😊 The police station interrogation scene with Catherine was very popular when this came out and was parodied in the media quite a lot. Great reactions to this sexy psychological thriller, Dasha!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

FUN FACTS
that's not
SHARON STONE / catherine
JEANNE TRIPLEHORN / beth
LEILANI SARELLE / roxy
the director had a
female double wearing a
blonde wig
so it would confuse the audience
&
cause doubt against all
3 possible suspects
CATHERINE
BETH
ROXY
and
it's also the double for
the scene where
GUS DIES
A good early Michael Douglas film is "The China Syndrome".
I think you'd also really like Body Double. It's similar in a lot of ways.
There were a lot of these types of psychological thrillers in the late 80's to early 90's. Not all had this much sex, but I think most of them had some. A few on that list were The Jagged Edge, Presumed Innocent, Shattered, Malice, Silver, Jade, Fatal Attraction, Body Heat and 9 1/2 Weeks. It was a good time to a teenager with unrestricted access to movie channels.
There was also an utterly terrible rip off of Basic Instinct called Body of Evidence. Avoid that one.
I really loved Brian DePalma's Body Double. Mainly just for purely personal reasons. It shows so many cool looking places in L.A. in the 80's when I lived there, during the absolute greatest time of my life. It makes me very nostalgic.
This is one of the best reactions I've seen in a long while😂
This was a very big deal when it came out. Paul Verhoeven didn't hold back when he made films.
The infamous crotch shot was very much planned and discussed in detail between Verhoeven and Stone, contrary to more recent interviews where Stone suggests that she didn't know blah blah.
For the younger generations, you have to imagine no internet, little nudity in popular culture at all, and lesbian chic was rarely if ever part of the mainstream, so there is a double/triple whammy all rolled into one in this film.
Michael Douglas having previously been in the likes of Romancing The Stone, Jewel of the Nile, Wall Street, the female lead however was not as easy to cast. About a dozen A listers were offered, and turned down the role, and finally Stone was cast, a relative unknown, having previously starred on Total Recall, another Verhoeven film.
It catapulted Stone into the spotlight.
The plot kept people guessing until long after the credits rolled, even after the final scene played out.
Yeah, in the 80's and 90's lesbians were considered weird and creepy, not a mainstream sexual fetish for straight people or a normal romantic relationship. If a woman was interested in other women, it must be because she was broken, or secretly wanted to be a man. Yeesh. We had weird minds back then.
@@theaikidoka not sure weird and creepy, certainly not in British culture, but it just wasn't a mainstream topic, until gradually in the '90s it became more common.
Indeed there are some aspects of society best left in the past, but in contrast today we have cancel culture and a whole generation that seem to get offended by anything and everything and expect the world to walk around on eggshells, oh, and then there's the 'that language isn't acceptable, everyone must change' nonsense. Anyone that uses the word 'pronoun' and isn't an English teacher shouldn't be allowed to leave their house for the safety and mental health of everyone else around them.
@@JeVoudrais12 yep, I can't identify at all with the 'I have a right to be offended' crowd. Even LInkedin have changed their profiles to include pronouns, which I refuse to utilise on principle.
Well there's not much doubt after this that Dasha is bisexual. Nice!
Dasha, if you want to learn everything you need to know about women, then please watch Two mules for sister Sara, starring Clint Eastwood, all will be revealed to you in just one iconic quote ☺ and for a bonus quote, watch back to the future part 2, when Doc Brown talks about destroying the time machine while still in the future.
12:22 "well, ok, i see what this movie was missing all along." 😊
Dashs you do a great job with the mature subject movies but with a little humor and innocence.😁 Great reaction and i luv these who done it movies and This one is one of the best! Great cast in this movie! Thanks Dasha keep em coming! Luv ya❤💛
2:14 Days Of Thunder/Días De Trueno
If you want another funny movie, you should try "Fatal Instinct" ... based on "Basic Instinct" + "Fatal Attraction". 😀
Oh, that movie's _awesome._ A pity it's not more well known, nowadays.
Nick is safe from Katherine, if she kills him after framing Beth, she becomes the number one suspect! Great reaction as always Dasha, and drive carefully out there!
06:29
LEGAL FACT
writing about a
FICTIONAL MURDER
&
then committing the
ACTUAL MURDER
doesn't give a person an
ALIBI or CLEAR THEM
it's called a
PREMEDITATIVE ACT
EXAMPLE :
if a person says :
" I'm going to rob a bank "
&
then they rob the bank
that's called
PREMEDITATION
or
FORETHOUGHT
a plan that's acted on
I wanted her to see the shot. Lol
At 13:56, you were thinking of gunpowder. The gun will have a distinct smell if it has been fired recently. Otherwise it will smell like the protective lubricating oil. It's not a definitive test, but it's surprisingly hard to get rid of the smell - like woodsmoke on your clothes or skin, it lasts for days.
Dasha you're great, I also think this is one of the best movies I've ever watched. Great choice and nice reaction. Sharon Stone was something else in this movie. A sensual killer...
When they shot the ice pick scene where she kills the first guy they had to use oxygen because Sharon Stone was terrified doing it.
You should watch also Brian De Palma's "Femme fatale".
The interrogation scene is the most paused scene in history.
I just watched this movie again a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't click your reaction video fast enough. Such a fantastic thriller. Great cast, script, and music. Just like the movie, your reaction didn't disappoint.
It's about time someone reacts to this. You guys don't understand before Johnny Depp was "crankin" out banger after banger my Micheal Douglas was the go to in the 90's. He had great film after great film.
Watch "copycat" (1995-96) with seagourney weaver it falls in the same category its a good one.
Hey Dasha… two more really good Michael Douglas movies are: “Fatal Attraction” and “Disclosure” both similar to this movie as in dramatic thrillers from the ‘90’s.
15:00 "hot, evil genius. who is both into men and women."
whew.
Your English is getting better . loved seeing ur reaction
I highly recommend for your next movie " body heat" another great erotic thriller
You should watch Disclosure with Michael Douglas
For more Michael Douglas: "Fatal Attraction" (1987) and, "Wall Street"(1987). And if you want to see him even younger check out an episode of "The Streets of San Francisco" (1972-1977). He plays a homicide detective on the SFPD.
In the same vein as this movie I think you must watch Disclosure (1994) starring Michael Douglas and Demi Moore.
You would love “Wild at Heart”
This movie was so hot, it was massive upon its release, and Sharon Stone shot to huge fame. Filled with loads of drama and intrigue that led to a great climax that leaves you breathless. Yes, Detective Curran was a jerk. Off he went trying to solve the case, and ended up falling in love, what a nut! At least he wasn’t scared, like a puss- okay, I’ll stop now.
Michael Douglas movie suggestion - "A Perfect Murder" also starring Gwyneth Paltrow.
Muy buena eleccion Dasha
Y es la tercer pelicula de Paul Verhoeven en USA
There's actually a lot of movies with Michael Douglas where he bangs some hot woman 🤷🏻♂️ it's like it's own genre
Oh damn. You watched this? Oh my damn. I remember how you were watching Boogie Nights. Like you hardly flinched during that
14:24
NO IT DOESN'T !
it's called
PREMEDITATION
Dasha, if you want to know more about icepick murders, look up Leon Trotzky (Лев Троцкий) 😅
Forget Basic Instinct.... watch 1992's DISCLOSURE with Michael Douglas and Demi Moore. It's better to me.
Sleeping with the Enemy is another good one in this genre. Julia Roberts is in it.
Not sure which was better watching you or the movie!
Body Heat and Sea of Love are two more movies long the same lines. Both have hot actresses (Kathleen Turner and Ellen Barkin) and plenty of sex scenes along with crazy plot twists. If you decide to watch either of them make sure you have something cold to drink to keep yourself cool 🥂
That's true, you don't get the reveal til the last few seconds.
By the way, good question at around 13:00, that's one of the hallmarks of movies like this - EVERYONE is working with selfish or corrupted motives. You always have to ask 'what angle are they playing, what are they trying to get out of this'?
Great review 😊
Great reaction. Why not step it up a little and go for Sliver.
That is a great movie with Sharon Stone, William Baldwin and Tom Berenger, just to name a few.
Think Dasha would love it!
Thanks for reaction
Sicario (2015)
This is a great movie. The Quick and the Dead is my favorite Sharon Stone movie and Romancing the Stone is my favorite Michael Douglas movie. Especially because Kathleen Turner is also in it. She was my Celebrity Crush back in the day.
Absolute 🔥🔥🔥 Thanks for reacting to this one Dashy! 🥰🥰🥰
For another well executed tense and sexy crime thriller you should watch Wild Things.
Keep up the great work Dasha!
Basic Instinct is a really good film but I sure as hell don't recommend the sequel.
3:35 "My sex life's actually pretty sh__ty since I stopped seeing you. I've started developing calluses."
🤔Dude's not _doin'_ it right.
Don't Forget Watch and React to Black Rain 1989
4:03 Hey, Captain Banks.
3:28 I wonder if the actor driving the car, here, is related to Chris Christie.
I remember when this movie came out. It was very controversial. A great thriller
17:37 Dasha. You weren’t like this with Boogie Nights. Lol
Dasha loved this movie, so the only logical conclusion is that she watches Wild Things from 1998 next. Also maybe The Last Seduction from 1994, starring the undertaker from Men in Black!
The reaction to the movie is just priceless…GREAT review. 😈🔥😮💨
13:27 "I _care_ about you. I did it for _you."_
Why'd you leave him in the _dark_ about it?
In many movies and tv shows assassins in The Mafia are depicted as using ice picks as one of their weapons of choice to kill people. I don’t t know if you’ve ever seen the movie “Good fellas,” but there is a scene in there where it’s used to bump somebody off. It’s a great movie with a lot of famous actors like Robert De Nero, Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta, paul Sorvino and more and directed by martin Scorsese.
She has seen Good Fellas. The reaction is on the channel. You should check it out.
It was rare at that time for everyone in a movie to be kind of messed up, especially the "protagonist" detective.
Beth and Roxy are both killers but I did not think Catherine was, other than the little tease of the ice pick under the bed.
The trouble with some people is you're never really sure who they are.
The movie playing on the television is Hellraiser.
90's has produced some of my fave "serial killer" mystery films, this (Basic Instinct), Bone Collector, Seven and Copycat.
Why does neither Verhoeven nor the writer know the definition of "alibi?"
