  • The week started with some rain so I focused on clearing out and removing old stuff from the workshop in the barn. I continue painting the barn and I've bought some new furniture for the cabin.

Nothing feels better than clearing out an area and making it more useable. Well done. And the barn is looking so good with a fresh coat of paint. Loved seeing you try out each chair! You're moving right along and I'm enjoying watching the progress.

Discovered your channel 3 weeks ago, and now kind of addicted to watch a different chapter literally every day.;-) Such a quiete place, and relaxing to stay there.
That is so amazing, the repairs you have made, and how you keep carefully this authenticity of traditional swedish house. Last few years I spend my winter and spring holidays between Norway and Sweden, mostly in Stockholm and Visby and I see lots of those beautiful houses. Have never been inside, and now with your videos this is like an opprtunity to visit inside..
That is very inspiring how you are renovating this property. Dream house. Great job Marcus!
    Cheers from Canada.

Bravo! Having space cleared of EVERYTHING that is either not useable, not repairable (or too expensive to repair), and just junk trash is such a good feeling. I never understood the idea of "maybe one day" it seems unfathomable to surround myself with things that take up space--even when I have it. I know many people who have had this type of "maybe one day" items and it has been 5, 10 or even more years since they have hung on. Yikes. Keep moving FORWARD. The wild iris are beautiful.

    Marcus,
Stumbled upon your RUclips channel today and watched a nearly 4 hr long video of you working on your charming cabin- was immediately fascinated by your channel and subscribed. I have been following a Dutch guy about your age who is doing something similar to a villa in Italy. If you’re interested, his channel is Villa Oliva. You have strikingly similar interests. I haven’t yet had a chance to figure out when exactly you started on this project but I hope to find out so I can go back and watch from the beginning.
    Thanks for sharing your journey

Yes it does look like an Iris, very pretty, almost like an orchid. In South Africa we also have something similar, very small compared to an Iris that we call a 'blou pypie', blue pipe.👍

You have so many beautiful flowers. The ones you don't recognize are irises. I also love lupins and covet your overload of them, though maybe that's because I can't grow them where I live! As always, you are making wonderful steady progress, and your videos are fun to watch. Cleaning out the barn must be very satisfying.

Don’t be so quick to throw away things! Some of those old oil cans are collector items! People pay good money for them!
Those flowers are a type of Iris.
When you are doing a big painting job like that get a smaller container to put some paint in. That way you are not going up and down the ladder 100 times. Much more efficient. Use a piece of wire to hang the bucket from your ladder to keep both hands free.

Good advice. I think Marcus is a wee bit too tidy for his own good at times, the poor old apple tree being a prime example. I love the birch baskets for logs and things which would be great decor for the house later on. I think that’s a form of Iris Sibirica, they are beautiful and could easily be split to create new patches of them after flowering.

I agree that the flower is an iris. And I think that bird you continuously heard might actually be a tree frog or some kind of insect. Not sure, just never heard a bird do that.

Hej Marcus, the same flower is growing in front of our little old house in the middle of Sweden and we also like it very much. We looked it up: It seems to be an Iris (Iris sibirica). ... Your videos show how much love and time an old house needs to be brought back to life. How much modernization are you aiming for in your renovation? Or is it more important for you to preserve the old charm of the property? Painting our buildings is also on our To-Do-List. But everything step by step. Like you we don`t live at the homestead permanently and we have to be careful not to take on too much at once. And document work and life in videos also requires so much time. We're excited to see what happens next for you. Vänliga hälsningar, Ulla

Gosh, that is a lot of hard manual painting. Have you considered buying or renting a compressor so you can spray it on instead? You’ll be doing this every few years and it would be worth the investment.

If they are, please be very careful in disposing of it. Take care! (Also, please make sure to enable captions for your videos: old people need them…)

It would cost an absolute fortune to build with timber like that here, it's cheaper to do with brick. I love the timber and found a old dismantled timber kit home from Europe many years ago and built reusing that. That was twenty years ago and I would do it again.👍
