- Its time to tell the truth that its not really an icon the casio f91w. We tend to overlook the fact that we all recycle what everyone else says in this hobby of ours and while the F91w is a retro cool watch it isnt anything special. I think Its all about it being so affordable and good value thats made it the hit it is but that doesnt really justify why its an Icon or does it???

You totally miss the point. For something to be iconic it doesn't mean it has to be the best or perfect. Think of iconic cars like the Lamborghini Countach. Terrible to drive by all accounts, a useless daily driver and out of the reach of most people. Using your parameters (the package) it shouldn't be iconic but it is. Think about the red telephone boxes in England. They're obsolete, old fashioned and were expensive to manufacture but they're iconic. The list goes on. The F-91w is iconic because of its simplicity, its nostalgia, its affordability, its ease of use, its reliability, its comfort, its popularity and its beautifully simplistic design. It is the quintessential digital watch. Everything else is just adaption or mimicry. Think of a digital watch and this is the one people think of.
Man o man. What a great comment. First off. Thanks. Second, I 100% respect your statement. I think it really boils down to "what is iconic?" and even then I think it's somewhat subjective. For me I can understand how people see it as such but for me, it isn't. Top notch comment my guy.
Agree
I am using casio F91w for past 2 years. No issue with backlight. Backlight is enough to see the time in night.
It's perfect💯.
It's iconic ❤
I can appreciate that.
I cant see shit. Its perfect
The icon status comes from the fact that it has been produced for so long with the exact same specs and sells by the millions still each year. Other iconic watches dont have that long period without changing elements of the design. The design is so classic and "perfect" for what it is. It is an icon, period.
Appreciate your opinion mate. Well said. 🙌
Good video. I like your calm, no hype, delivery/presentation and your different take on the F-91W.
Thanks mate. Appreciate the feedback. 🙌
I certainly didn't buy it because it's cheap, you just made all my G-Shocks blush!
I have 5 F-91W's precisely because it is such a beatiful, comfortable ICON. 🤣
Edit: Great vid though 👍🏼
Hahaha I appreciate that.
As a Timex guy I’m not the biggest fan and would prefer an iron man with the INDIGLO. But I respect the history of this one
I respect that.
Nothing special is what make this so special and iconic. Name one thing that is nothing special but yet this much iconic. There is not many and this is one of it
Hahaha definitely the coolest comment so far. Hands down. I love it.
Nice work CJ. Great vid!
Appreciate it man.
It's still one of the most popular watches. Recently it was seen in web series Asur 2 , worn by Barun Sobti.
Popular for sure.
It’s very refreshing to see a review that doesn’t just repeat the familiar talking points about the f91 and how great it is and yada yada yada. It is what it is, a very cheap and very, very basic digital watch with a crappy backlight. I especially like your point about every watch being able to go to space if the f91 can go there - that’s valid reasoning, I think. Having said that I think it looks amazing, and I love it, and would argue that it is, if not an icon, than at the very least a design classic.
Wow. Finally someone that understands me lol It's definitely a classic and I feel that stands more ground than Icon but I can also understand other views too. It's certainly a cool watch which is why it will never leave my collection. Don't get it twisted. I might not think it's an icon but I still think it's effin amazing. Appreciate the comment mate ✌️
Awesome video my man. I enjoyed this one 😎👊
Glad you liked it man.
Smooth edit CJ 👌 I picked up the silver B650-WD for the better backlight and it's slightly bigger size suits me. For the non watch person, the f91w has unbeatable specs for the price...
Well said man. The later additions of "basically" the same watch are better spec/feature wise. I think of the A168 in particular.
excellent video CJ!🔥
Thanks my guy.
great video, remind me of my old watch 😅😊❤
Like I said... I'm sure we all grew up with one at some point in our lives.
What I really like is the alarm on this watch is louder than any other casio, including Gshocks.
Oooo because I never use the alarms I never tried it. I guess I'll be testing that for sure now. Thanks.
Wait what! @4:58 into this video ..."This watch can go in to Space!" How heck can it do that? No thats some technical marvel, What's its propulsion system?
Back in the day I always had the metal silver bracelet version. The resin strap is always the first to fail. Still an icon IMHO, but I respect your well argued points.
Thanks mate. Ive never seen it on a bracelet before. Really keen to have a look. Ive heard many mention the statement of the strap being poor but I havnt had an issue with mine at all and its been years. Thanks again.
Does it fit on an 8 inch wrist.
I'm sure it would fit but do keep in mind, it might look a little small.
Great video man! I like my Casio Royale better I think
O 100000%. The Royale is one of my all time fav watches and waaaaay cooler in my opinion.
It’s an icon to me……. Is it a global icon 🤷🏼♂️
.
Being cheap can make it an icon
.
The fact it’s flawed also makes it an icon 😍😀
.
Great Vid great finish 👍😀
Good points my guy. I just feel like there are so many things that can be placed in those brackets but never get called iconic.
You're not getting it..... It's praised so much because this was the cheapest, most accurate, robust tool watch when it came out back in the day. People actually used their watches back then. That is why f91-w changed the world. It is an icon just from the fact that the formula was so good that it is still being manufactured more than any other watch in the world. It was used to make bombs, Obama has worn it, Osama has worn it, it's standard issue in the Singapore army. There's just way too much cool history behind it and there's no watch for under several thousand dollars with such rich history. It's still only 15 dollars and it's the cheapest tool watch you can get and it lasts for 7 years. All this make it far more iconic than most watched priced at even thousand times the price of this
Well said mate. I love this comment. I agree that when it came out it definitely would have been a good package especially considering the price... I just feel that the "package" isn't great when you really come to think about it. Classic for sure. I just feel that we give it abit more credit than it actually deserves. Each to their own. Love the comment though 🙌👏
@@watchout247it is true. The package is underwhelming. You can also get GMTs with greater water resistance that are cheaper than a submariner. That doesn't take away from the iconic status of the sub because it is the quintessential dive watch. This is the quintessential digital watch. Also, great channel buddy 🫡 you've earned a sub 👍
Great video brotha. I'm sure the hardcore casio fans will have some feathers ruffled but you hit the hail on the tead...it's popular for sure, maybe slightly iconic but in the grand scheme it's a tough basic watch with no frills and it serves it's purpose well 👊
Yeah... And don't get it twisted... I LOVE mine, but it's really just a simple good digi. Nothing really more. So many others that are similar if not "better".
It definitely iconic . Btw, only a few watches in the world that have Wikipedia pages.
That's a good point. I like that.
A158 all the way,..it’s the blingy f 91. Really this is the watch that started it all but I think we can all admit it’s time to move on.
I definitely think it's time to move on lol
is yellow LED fake or real?
Real
sed.
I agree and disagree. I feel it’s popular because of the nostalgia, and it gets away with being a bit crap because it’s cheap. Is it an icon? I think it has to be. Maybe just not for the “right” reasons.
Hahahah does it even count then 😂 Naa jokes aside, I totally get you.
"It's very basic.... Cheap/affordable.... Staright to the point.... 80s/90s vibe....nothing really special....." That's what makes F91W so popular and iconic😅😅..
Hahaha nailed it.
Bro thats water proof or not
30M so basically No lol
@@watchout247 haha
30 m is enough.
I agree with a number below. It's more about its HISTORY than what it is today. It was one of the first digitals to have what are now standard features. I remember having a digital watch in the early '80s and everyone was curious and wanted to see it. They were also a little more expensive back then. The transition from analog to digital for watches, calculators, audio CDs etc., was a late '70s early '80s phenomenon akin to the iphone type stuff. So is it iconic. Well, it's iconic if you think about what does a cheap digital watch do and what does it look like and the fact that so many are sold is a testament to the nostalgia. Heck, I have a number of more expensive, more capable Casios in the collection, but I just bought a new F91W. Why, because of the nostalgia and the fact that it's so small, so light that it sits on the wrist as though it is not even there. And my wrist is about 7" perhaps a little more, so not small, not large. The strap is just about right, only a few holes left after putting it on, 3 or 4 depending on how tight.
Plus, look at all the homages and imitators of this El Cheapo. And, yes, it's cheap and fairly durable?
So I guess I disagree, primarily because like many younger guys/gals you elide History. But History is still important. So we should forget about the guys who landed on the moon because the computer systems they used were less capable than my smart-phone, lol!
Very well said. Very thought out response which I appreciate. I guess we will have to agree to disagree but thats what is so good about this hobby. There are so many perspectives and with an open mind a perspective can stick.....I mean.. maybe you and all the other commenters might be changing my mind...maybe lol
@@watchout247Yup, context is everything, this watch is important because of its history, What is really subjective is to dismiss it only for its design and functionality, under that criterion no watch, whether with a mechanical or quartz movement, would be relevant today, precisely because other devices such as phones or smartwatches have made them obsolete from a practical point of view.

That's a very good comment. Well said mate. It is a very good all rounder and that's what matters right. 👏👏
Wow bro I didn’t expect this when you said controversial lol to a point I agree! I also think its “iconic” because of its accomplishments like being the most sold watch of all time and being in tons of tv/movies. The watch itself is shit LOL
Wow. You said the S word lol I definitely don't think it's shit but I do think it's a good affordable watch.... Thats about it.
The most unintelligent comment I've seen so far
@@vinomartadinata4915 How come?
@@vinomartadinata4915, it's the most he can do...😂
