Seems like it doesn't really follow the story
In the first one they're in Madagascar
In the second they're in Africa
      In the third they're in a circus?!What?!

But after finally watching the first Madagascar film in 2019, I enjoyed it, so I eventually watched the other 2 and boy do I love them.

  • @cameroncunnings5498
    @cameroncunnings5498 8 лет назад +35

I can't believe Madagascar is a decade old. The first film will always be the best of the 3 because of its uniqueness, style, originality, charm, and personality. The sequel expanded the scope, and it was certainly almost equal to the first in terms of quality. The third installment, while good, didn't really live up to the first or second. There were loose ends. Where was Alex's mom or dad? Why didn't we get to see him say goodbye to them? The third film also came off as another rehash. It was amazing the first time around. They expanded on that the second time. By the third time, it felt kind of tired. Go from Point A, to Point B, to Point C. Marty was one note in the third, but he had a good arc in the first two. Melman and Gloria...actually, their cute together, so I won't say much. Alex is the protagonist, so he was fine. Overall, if I had to give the whole trilogy a score, it would be a 89/100.

I don't understand lay people's common misconception that every small furry creature must be a rodent. Rodent is an actual term to describe closely related species. It's not a generic term like beast or bug. Lemurs are primates like us.

to all the people talking about the wild vs madagascar; it takes a LONG A S S time to make an animated movie. Inside Out's processing began in 2008. Yeah, 2008!! So it's not quite like the people who produced The Wild saw Madagascar and was like WE HAVE TO COUNTER THAT. They more than likely already had the concept, but Madagascar got out first.

Lemurs aren't rodents Doug they're primates, monkeys, specifically since they possess tails. And they're primarily frugivorous so dine on fruit but also eat insects and arachnids. The predators you see hunting them are fossa which are real-life arboreal cats

When I was a kid, I had no interest in "Madagascar", I pretty much expected to be just like Doug said, a lazy film with a predictable story and uninteresting characters. But when I was forced to watch it. I was very pleasantly surprised at how invested I was by the time we got to Alex attacking his friends.
I'm glad DreamWorks doesn't feel that every film they make has to be an Oscar-bait masterpiece. They can just once in a while crank out a nice fun little movie for kids and their parents to enjoy.

A deserted island, or a remote jungle on an island called Madagascar, which is in fact it's own country so it's not uninhabited?

Meh I appreciated this move more now than I did when I was little. I didn't like how goofy charismatic Alex turns into a psychopath and tries to eat everyone. That shit was dark.

You should definitely watch the Penguins movie. It's another one of those "how can a movie with such a stupid premise be so good" movies.

Madagascar is an awesome DreamWorks series along with Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda. Plus Madagascar was released a year before The Wild and The Wild wasn't even produced by Disney themselves. That's why the animation in that movie is more clunky, slow and choppy. Good thing Madagascar made more movies than the Wild with each sequel getting better.

Antz came out before Bugs Life, and the story was rejected by Disney before Bug's Life was written. Dreamworks was formed with the idea of releasing films like Antz, which Disney rejected for being too adult. Unfortunately, the studio has since become the more juvenile of the two.

I usually end up enjoying DreamWorks movies more than Disney or Pixar movies, though. As someone who hates it when comedy is forced into movies just for the sake of it, I'd rather a movie that's meant to be funny over something that's meant to be sad/cute/endearing but really isn't. Give me Shrek, Madagascar or Kung Fu Panda over that Disney stuff any day. Except for The Incredibles 1 and 2 and Ratatouille, all directed by Brad Bird. And I liked the beginning of Up but I kinda hated the rest of the movie. I despised Frozen and all the other ones are so forgettable I genuinely can't remember them.
Still, both companies are way better than Illumination.

Madagascar came out first. I used to watch both movies as a kid a lot, and even then I could tell that they felt reeeeeally similar. Turns out The Wild is a somewhat good copycat of Madagascar
