Years ago when my youngest son was 8 we went to london to visit for a week. I asked a guard could i take a photo of my son with him. He noded i put my son a distance from the guard but they would both be in the picture. The guard moved next to my son. I was surprised but thrilled. I took the picture and thanked the guard. My son was smiling he thanked the guard as well. If you treat them with respect they are lovely

People forget their morals and respect when their tourists sometimes

The guard behaves in a racist, possibly Islamophobic manner. When at least three blondish, European-looking women move in very close to him, he doesn't bat an eye, but when two very dark-haired young women who could possibly be of non- European descent approach him, he rudely tells them to back off when they are a foot away! Clearly this is a case of discrimination. Some of the guards are dignified in their manners and deportment, and their horses seem to welcome the public's attention, which the kind guards do not discourage. A relative few of the tourists are obnoxious. I think many of the commenters on the guard channels do a disservice both to the decent guards and to the tourists by rather indiscriminately endorsing the unwarranted rudeness and arrogance of some guards and harshly criticising clearly innocent tourists. The royal guards have their jobs primarily for the tourist dollar. They are unquestionably trained military personnel, and they could certainly be lethal with their good command of large well-trained mounts and big swords. However, they would avail nothing in defense against modern over-the-counter weapons, and even a well-aimed surprise machete attack to first topple the horse would take them out, and certainly a grenade would. That is why the area is simultaneously patrolled by heavily-armed modern military guards to protect the mounted guard as well as the royal residences and personnel. I agree! It is not just about respect... the way these people treat others shows their own standards in life... Instead of learning discipline and cultures from various places they visit as tourists, they destroy the standards of that culture expecting them to be tolerant... I think tourist should learn the culture and standards of a place before they visit and not disturb its surroundings. Why all of a sudden he tells the girl to stand back when he's allowed at least half a dozen others practically crawl up his side. She seemed so hurt. Why tell only her to stand back? NOT RIGHT!
After he said stand back he gave a nod which makes me think somebody was coming through and he was just alerting them in what I think was a very polite way to clear the area. He was so polite to everyone and nobody even said Thank you to him.
You can hear someone else talking in the background to make room.... There was someone coming through or something going on, they usually aren't out in front of the arches like that, they're usually behind a chain. It's crazy to see any time these guys come out of their positions, how ridiculously crowded in they are by people with tourist groups, it's almost scary... I'm sure not for these guys, they're military, but I'd be a little intimidated by 8-10 some odd people flocking around me to take a pic and I can't move forward unless I YELL... It's like watching a parade of stupid sometimes 😂 watching these ignorant tourists. On the other hand, I am pretty sure you're not supposed to talk to them. They won't answer and I'd probably feel like Id have to take my pic and keep it moving, not talking to them.

He is the first RF Military officer I’ve seen to state his, “Get back/Step away from the Arch” in a calm way. Every other one yells, but this gives these whole experiences a “Disneyland/Six Flags” feel to them. I have yet to hear one person ask, “may I have a photograph with you?” These guards are on duty to protect the monarch. The very least visitors can do is thank a guard for his/her service and for the photo opportunity.

I applaud the patience and fortitude of the King's Guards dealing with rude, touchy, ignorant people. He is not a statue but a full-blooded human being and a soldier serving his country. You wouldn't want strangers touching you or leaning against you every day, all day long. So respect his space.
I guess Life Guards are just alot more chill, but to be fair tourist need to give all the Guards alot more respect. They are doing there job, lucky they are nice enough to only shouting & sometimes pushing tourist off there path, they have the right to used forces & arrested people who violate rules or interrupt there work. These are no simple tourist locations, they are protecting the Queen & Royal properties.

After he said stand back he gave a nod which makes me think somebody was coming through and he was just alerting them in what I think was a very polite way to clear the area. He was so polite to everyone and nobody even said Thank you to him.

I'm sure not for these guys, they're military, but I'd be a little intimidated by 8-10 some odd people flocking around me to take a pic and I can't move forward unless I YELL... I have yet to hear one person ask, “may I have a photograph with you?” These guards are on duty to protect the monarch. The very least visitors can do is thank a guard for his/her service and for the photo opportunity.

I applaud the patience and fortitude of the King's Guards dealing with rude, touchy, ignorant people. He is not a statue but a full-blooded human being and a soldier serving his country. You wouldn't want strangers touching you or leaning against you every day, all day long. So respect his space.

I guess Life Guards are just alot more chill, but to be fair tourist need to give all the Guards alot more respect.
They are doing there job, lucky they are nice enough to only shouting & sometimes pushing tourist off there path, they have the right to used forces & arrested people who violate rules or interrupt there work. These are no simple tourist locations, they are protecting the Queen & Royal properties.
Looked like he was being chill with those girls, sounded more like a warning than a command. People forget these guards are elite soldiers, not toys they’ve seen in the nutcracker. I respect he didn’t needlessly scare the shit out of them under the circumstances.
Tourists that is not from this country should give these guards respect.

They were doing it one at a time the two girls were either side it would have been a bit more of an issue if both simultaneously got in his personal space like the other women.
