Actually you can easily heat water to well over 100 degrees using pressure at the top of mount Everest where there is lower pressure water boils at only 68 degrees but at sea level it boils at around 100 degrees so if you increase the pressure even more it could boil at an even hotter temperature.
1:01 i laughed at uncle roger saying jamie oliver’s food can be called buddha jumping wall but just the opposite way just that the buddha will jump over the way to get away from the food 😭
AT 7:28 Uncle Roger claimed that increasing the fire power would only boil the water to 100 degree and could not make the cooking faster. But from the standpoint of heat exchange between the pot and the boiling water, it still needed more heat to boil water faster. Secondly, in the beginning when the food inside the pot is still in room temperature, you still need to provide a lot of heat to cook it. So more heat the faster for the whole pot to be in same temperature with boiling water. After achieving equilibrium, Roger's suggestion is true.

Saw Project A tho and goddamn that is an underrated banger. (God of Cookery actually recommended in the Futurama commentary tracks somewhere. good taste)

How have I never heard of this movie before? I absolutely loved kung fu hustle and this is right up my alley. Thanks for introducing me to this, I’m off to go watch it now.
You won't regret it. I prefer God of Cookery to both Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer.
because there are shit tons of Stephen Chow movies that's basically unknown in the West.

I gotta watch this now! I love shows, movies, and anything else about food. Netflix does a good job: Midnight Diner, Kantaro the Sweet Tooth Salaryman, Gourmet Samurai, the Makanai, and 7:48 Way of the Househusband.
"They don't make movies like this anymore."
So true. Movies nowadays focus on how to make it look good and no longer on the fun of it.
Movies these days must be “diverse” and “woke”. Producers don’t care about anything else

YESSSS this movie is the best! I love Stephen Chow movies! I used to rent them on VHS/DVD when they had questionable subtitles lol. I was so sad when Uncle Tat passed a couple of years ago. Good to see their movies still getting recognition ❤
Ng Man Tat was always funny in these.
He sometimes went by Richard Ng which confused people when Richard Ng Yiu-hon (Richard Woo) died in April - people got him mixed up with Ng Man Tat.
@@TheFattyKarate Crap, I didn't know he died until now! He was so damn funny!
I own Kung Fu Hustle, and if you want to die laughing, watch it with subtitles AND dubbing turned on. It's like neither group of editors talked to each other to coordinate dialogue because everyone says something different! I loved Stephen Chow movies!

I saw this movie years ago having little context about this type of film. When they ate the meatballs and started gushing gallons of liquid from their mouths, I was a little shocked. My wife never looked at me the same again.

"Pissing beef balls"!
Lmao, the exploding cum meatballs.
VERY ELASTIC
In Taiwan, we have slightly changed the ingredients of Buhdda Jump Over the Wall, we don't put Jing Hua ham, we put taro, rib crisp and quail eggs instead.
I saw this movie shortly after Shaolin Soccer came out, and loved it. It's so weird and funny, Chow's humor is great.
The idea of someone mastering Kung Fu so much that they become magical is already a fun Chinese movie trope (like the flying) but it's even better when it's applied to food and cooking! I love her panic at the idea of never being able to get that dish as good as that ever again.
enen soccer
I laughed my head off when the evil chef flew the air shouting and Stephen Chow just batted him out of the air with a folding chair and just kept beating on him.
I remember getting God of Cookery on a Hong Kong bootleg DVD like 20 years ago. Easily one of the best Stephen Chow movies, on the same level as Kung Fu Hustle. This fight climax doesn't even touch the absurdity of it. Sister Turkey's meat tenderizing, Pissing Beef Balls, The Buddha of Wet Dreams. Super excited to think about all the people who will be discovering this classic for the first time.
ive been watching this since i was in grade school and still rewatching this after all this time
It's like Food Wars, but more wild. I'm loving this.
And less naked scenes too.
Except with no constant boobie and asscheecks shots
food wars but made by indians
food wars was inspired by older cooking anime that were crazy like this (chuuka ichiban, yakitate japan) and shows like iron chef, which in turn was inspired by an old manga/anime called Mister Ajikko which came out 1986. This movie was likely inspired by those old anime and iron chef as well. This movie is like a comedic version of chuuka ichiban.

it's kinda funny how you have the order in "backward", as God of Cookery is the oldest/first movie, then came Shaolin Soccer, then Kung Fu Hustle
Ang Lee’s “Eat Drink Man Woman” is one of my favorite cooking movies.
10:39 It isn’t so expensive in Hong Kong and you will get full after eat it,actually it’s tasty by add sour sauce on the egg
I'm glad we're getting more Cantonese movie recognition. They really are a force to be reckoned with compared to movies of this period
Here in the UK Eureka Entertainment and 88 Films are releasing a lot of the older Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung ones on Blu Ray. Eureka actually just released a Mr Vampire boxset.
Actually you can easily heat water to well over 100 degrees using pressure at the top of mount Everest where there is lower pressure water boils at only 68 degrees but at sea level it boils at around 100 degrees so if you increase the pressure even more it could boil at an even hotter temperature.
11:14 That's what it called "ANIME BACKGROUND VIBES". Only this Stephen Chow movie can make that over dramatic Anime reference scene🙃
6:30 Sorry uncle roger, the restaurant is under in the middle of the water now :(

It’s sad they don’t make comedy movies like this again
I love how uncle Roger is very informative with his videos.
3:44 genuine laugh, this movie is a gem and hilarious.
You've given us a great gift today, Uncle Roger. This movie looks EPIC AS FUCC.
Most of his movies have a 'theme':
God of Cookery - culinary, Iron Chef of course
From Beijing with Love - low rent 007 😅
King of Comedy - 'Extras' before 'Extras' was on TV
Kung Fu Hustle - his love of kung fu movies, and Bruce Lee of course.
Shaolin Soccer - as ⬆ , Shaw Bros. kung fu, and roundball of course (and tonnes of movie parodies)
etc.
It's the "Kung Fu Hustle" guy so you already know how ridiculous it's going to get.
nice opinion one small issue , i put pipebomb inside your soup pot.

My friends and I discovered this movie completely by chance. I was in high school and living in living in NYC at the time and my friends and I would always go to Chinatown to buy bootleg PS1 games and other shit like butterfly knives and all sorts of other dangerous shit teenagers like us shouldn't have had access to. One day while browsing for some random games this guy was like "Hey if you like comedy movies here is "God of Cookery" " . So my friend and I chipped in to buy a VCD (for you youngins' out there a VCD was basically a DVD before there were DVDs) for $10. So we popped in the VCD and got drunk off some Steel Reserve and laughed our asses off. Been a fan of Stephen Chow ever since, the man is an absolute comedy genius.
I was watching for comedic reason but I actually learnt science fact at 7:26 Thank you Uncle Roger
But I'm surprised you had to watch this and learn general knowledge 😢
I love this style of movie. When we were young my friend showed me Shaolin Soccer (another Stephen Chow movie) and it blew my mind.
Technically by adjusting pressure one can increase or decrease boiling point effectively raising the temperature of the liquid
Accented Cinema has a fantastic video about Stephen Chow and especially God of Cookery. Even though his later films are more polished, King of Comedy is probably my favourite. It feels the most personal of his films, since the movie is clearly a metaphor for his film career.
some wuxia (Chinese martial arts fiction) reference from The Condor Trilogy by Jin Yong
03:08 Eighteen-style frying -> Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms
03:12 Dog-beating sauteeiing -> Dog Beating Stick Technique
both are Beggar Clan's martial arts, of which its chiefs were expected to master them fully
10:31 Sorrowful Rice -> Sorrowful Palms
signature martial art of Yang Guo, the protagonist of The Return of Condor Heroes
and a reference to wuxia in general
10:24 "The nine ingredients make up a total of 81 varieties" -> in wuxia martial skills could have some varieties, which could be derived into another varieties, and so on. supposedly, it'd make the skill stronger, or harder to counter
Btw Stephen Chow is big fan of Jin Yong. he bought copyright directly from the Author and use for some of his film Including 2004 Kungfu Hustle.
The novelist reportedly tried to decline the payment, but was told by Stephen, "These works have a great influence. These characters are already a cultural symbol. It is copyrighted."
