I think its really just up to the grill cook and prep person in the kitchen. I’ve had burgers at McDonalds that were amazing (most are awful) but when a fry cook knows what theyre doing, it makes a HUGE difference. Even with frozen patties you can make a good burger if you know how to cook.
The Quarter Pounder that’s made to order with never frozen beef is way better than any burger at McDonald’s that was assembled from a patty pulled out of a warming tray. I’m also old enough to remember when they used styrofoam clamshell packaging, which kept it warm but got the bun all weird and soggy. And they might still have all that under a heat lamp for several minutes.
I had one of the best and worst burgers at the exact same place. The people cooking the food have a big impact. And the location Manager too. There are certain Wendy's and a&w where I live in Canada that are pretty consistently good, but some others are very hit and miss. So yeah, same recipe and equipment does not mean same food. @ Same recipe may not even be enough depending on the ingredient sources. A lot of chain restaurants have multiple regional suppliers. That can make a huge difference with meat quality.
if you go here and expect anything but the cheesecake to be good...then idk what to say their apps are decent actually, but the food overall is alright. my wife and i go there like 1-2 times a year and i try something different every time, i havent found a meal of theirs that i would recommend.
Well, not everything. I find it problematic myself that a bunch of places don't season their food properly, when it's one of the key components to good food, yet most of us overlook it.
This year for my birthday me and my family crossed over to the United States for the day since we’re from Canada. We ended up having Red Robin for lunch since we never had it before and heard good things about their burgers, and yeah they’re amazing, one of the best I’ve ever had from a chain restaurant. Definitely gets a recommendation from me and I may never well see myself there again in the future.
I can’t believe bdubbs actually got some recognition for how good their burgs are. Unbelievably underrated and fantastic for a place that’s all about chicken.
For anyone wondering where that buffalo wild wings is, 1431 and 183A in Cedar Park. It has had its up and downs. Right behind it is a great chinese place called Amy's Chinese Cuisine. The owner there is super awesome I have known her since I was a kid
I've had a house near 45 and 183A for fifteen years. It's about 6 miles from where that BWW is. And I'm just realizing I've never once been on that corner for anything.
Funny you brought up the "Cracker Barrel tastes like it was cooked in an old folks home" thing because my brother said the exact same thing, and he is the kitchen manager/"head chef" at an old folks home. 🤣
Joshua, your voice sounds just like Brandon Herrera. Well spoken, smooth, and concise enunciation. Big fan of your content as well. Thank you for all you do.
Yeah I was like, no Fuddruckers? No Johnny Rockets? Not even TGI Fridays? C'mon Josh... this isn't "every" chain restaurant - it's part 1 of "every" chain restaurant.
Fudruckers kind of cheating when you can load up your own toppings like a huge side of pico and nacho cheese to shovel into your mouth after a bite of burger
Interesting with the Cheesecake factory of "not enough salt" considering everything on their menu is like a nearly days worth of calories and more than a days worth of acceptable sodium consumption for your body. Seriously was curious and looked up the nutritional facts on this, yes 2430mg of sodium, oh and 200% your daily saturated fat too... must be from that mac and cheese oil sponge they put on it.
I dont understand the haters. if you grew with joshua for a bit. you would know. we are trying to invent new flavors and establish new criteria and ratings. so eventually we can have a divine buffet. You are doing great work
As someone who worked at BWW for 6 years in my teenage years and has since revisited, they went from being just like Applebees/Chili’s to having INSANELY underrated burgers.
As an Inspire Brands employee, I'm glad to see the BDubs burger getting the respect it deserves. Never tried LongHorn's burgers but their NY Strip is my go to.
Josh, for me you should make my own personal burger recipe Onions 4 ways burger Fried onion Red onions pickled Jammy sweet onion Thin raw onion Any cheese of choice 2 smash burgers Fried on top of patties Pickled and raw between the patties Jammy on bottom This burger does WORK, trust me
The chili’s rating hurt. I also have to factor value in. The fact the chili’s burger is on the 3 for me deal and u can get it with a side, soup or salad and drink it’s always an S-tier
Here's a tip, if the seasoning on your food is not enough ADD some. Idk how it works in America but in South Africa it is standard to have less salt and sometimes seasoning on fast food to accommodate for the masses. It's always safer to have less salt then too much salt, thats why you get the seasoning packs in the bag.
It's not the endless shrimp that's ruining Red Lobster. Their parent company also owns their distributer and forces Red Lobster to buy from them at insanely inflated prices. It's the exact same situation that killed Quiznos.
@rayjones2606 No, the company that owns Red Lobster is trying to blame the endless shrimp on the restaurants failure when it's really them price gouging RL to increase profits for their distribution company. They are robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Im a manager at Chilis in NC and I can tell you that double otc wasn't made to spec. First clue was it's falling apart. A perfect burger would've been a B at best though just felt the need to comment that lol
Request: do this for regional restaurants. For instance, Utah has a restaurant chain called "Chubby's Cafe" and wins all the best burger awards in the state basically every year.
My wife loves going there whenever we go to the US. I always end up getting a salad no dressing because everything there is a sodium/calorie bomb and I don't like being in a food coma after I eat.
Varies by location; the burger at the Cracker Barrel near me is pretty good. That said, it IS an old folks' home, so you do gotta salt everything they give you.
I don’t think it’s fair for the ratings that each burger is so different, also I work at chilis for Togo and can assure you that burger is not fresh. If you were to go back, I’d highly recommend the Alex Santa fey burger or the burger bites! so many better options than a basic meat filled burger with cheese.
Joshua usually goes for a single basic/common option to compare in these videos, which in this case was a bacon cheeseburger, so that he can do a more or less apples-to-apples comparison. There's undoubtedly better fare at a lot of these places, but comparing specialties against each other is pretty pointless.
Seeing The Cheesecake Factory at F actually shocked me. I always get the Bacon Bacon Cheeseburger and I absolutely love it. It is an S tier burger for me. It is my all time favorite burger.
i’m a manager at longhorn and josh is one of if not my favorite chef it makes me happy that he went i remember when i first started with longhorn i went to joshs meet n greet at Magnol bakery in houston and i gave him a card for a free appetizer, i wonder if he used it 😂😅
Dang, I'm disappointed in Cracker Barrel. It's one of my more favorite breakfast places but I don't think I've ordered anything other than pancakes, I'll be honest.
@OddlyIncredible To be fair, a lot of chains are like that. They do their best to keep things consistent but at the end of the day, if you get a bad franchise owner, you get bad food. CB in general, I think I've literally only gone to 2 different locations and they were both pretty good in the breakfast department.
Why would you even go out to eat for pancakes?? 😂😂 Cracker barrel is bland food, that’s why the older generation loves it. Food is just average at best.
All I gotta say for this list is that you DO NOT GO to Cracker Barrel for their burgers. You go for the shop, their breakfast, their Chicken Fried Chicken, their Chicken n' Dumplings and MANY other delicious entrees and sides. That and the atmosphere and old timey ads and photos on the walls in the dining area. Give Cracker Barrel another chance Josh cuz I guarantee you that there's plenty more to enjoy on their menu
The Longhorn Steakhouse burger looked like the burger from Mondo Burger in the movie Good Burger (try saying that 5 times fast) iykyk. That patty was THICC. Joshua you should do one of these but trying the most macro friendly option at every chain fast food restaurant or trying macro friendly restaurants.
I don't think not being able to taste the beef or it being overpowered by other ingredients is necessarily a bad thing. What matters is the unity of all ingredients meshing well together to make a new flavor pallet through them all in unison. I can't speak for everyone but I don't buy and rate my burgers based off of just the beef patty alone, everything in it factors in if I enjoyed it or not. Sause, cheese, bacon, etc adds to the sandwich. Yes, the beef quality is important as its the main ingredient, but just because the main flavor isnt "beef" would not deduct from my opinion on it. If I was so caught on the idea of tasting the beef I'd just order a steak.
If you start the video by talking about how the prices of every chain restaurant are going up, you should include the prices of every burger, not just the most expensive and least expensive burger.
As a French, I've been told many times that our fast food like Mcdonald's are much better here than in the US. I would love for Joshua to do a comparison next time he's in France. Because for us French, it's just bad quality food, like a guilty pleasure
Alright Josh just because you ordered a bad item on the cheesecake factory menu does not mean the rest is awful, please don't talk trash on one of the best restaurants out there just because of the burger you got.
I used to work for Red Robin so let me give you the inside scoop. Meat always frozen comes packed and ordered in They toast the buns with Margarine Line cooks are never trained correctly and rarely wash hands Overall health and safety is pretty lax They cook their burgers through a quick cooker that is set to no pink or some pink
Menu hack. The standard McDoubles are always 2 for $4 in the app. I load up with free onions, pickles, lettuce, and mayo. There's usually a deal to get a free large fry with any size drink $1.29. So for $5.29 you are getting 2 McDoubles, Large Fries, and a Large Coke. You can add extra patties for $1 and various other toppings like extra cheese and bacon, but it starts adding up. The deal I posted is probably the best basic meal and able to fill up even a big guy.

When I lived in Illinois, there was a chain called Burger Barge. It was nautical themed, and even displayed napkin art on the walls. If Josh ever does a video where he travels around or tries to get local burgers from each state, and finds the route near the Peoria area, I'd absolutely recommend Burger Barge.
I appreciate the Sunday content as always! I have a request for you though... with the return of the caramel apple empanadas at taco bell, can we get a "but better" video? I've always loved them and I want to see your twist! Thanks Josh!
People say Longhorn is overpriced - while they may be pricy, their food always seems to deliver a good experience. I had one mess-up on a to-go order and they gave me a $25 gift card on a $8 appetizer.
Josh man, go back to Cracker Barrell for the breakfast. Those pancakes are worth the trip. Don't judge them on their burger. It's like judging Kroger on their selection of automotive products. It's there, but its not the reason anyone goes there. Also, go when they have the fire place going during the winter time. Let it redeem itself.
ALSO, to be fair, you kinda have to be prepared to salt and pepper a burger to your taste. Some of these places cater to older customers who often have salt restrictions. I think you should carry a salt and pepper grinder and rate it both before and after.
The problem I have with most burgers is; people focus more on all the other stuff on there, as opposed to the meat. The meat is supposed to be the star, and the rest is the supporting cast. Like, I get it looks cool to get a burger with a THICC slice of tomato and sauce dripping off the bun, and all that, but give me a basic burger where the meat is properly seasoned and well cooked, and I'm as happy as a cat with a shoebox.

Same recipe may not even be enough depending on the ingredient sources. A lot of chain restaurants have multiple regional suppliers. That can make a huge difference with meat quality.
the cheesecake factory is the embodiment of a jackof all trades and a master of none
yeah, a jackoff all trades
Their slider appetizer is S tier. Look for other videos about it. I've tried it and it's the only thing I'm getting there from now on, so good.
They are the master of food that looks awesome but underachieves...and will require you to get a quadruple bypass.
not even cheesecake?
if you go here and expect anything but the cheesecake to be good...then idk what to say
their apps are decent actually, but the food overall is alright. my wife and i go there like 1-2 times a year and i try something different every time, i havent found a meal of theirs that i would recommend.
unfortunately i’ve learned not to take joshuas advice anymore because it seems that everything for him has salt deficiency😭
Well, not everything. I find it problematic myself that a bunch of places don't season their food properly, when it's one of the key components to good food, yet most of us overlook it.
I'm sure he'd find a container of smoked salt i have not salty enough. % smoke flavor and % salt somehow add up to more than 100%
Nah you are just used to bland food.
yeah rarely if ever have i gone to a chain restaurant and thought "hm, seems sodium deficient"
@@OrbObserver some of us season our food with things that are not just salt and think it's weird to use "underseasoned" as synonym for "undersalted"
Must be solid, that burger doesn't resemble anything close to what I have got at BWW for at least a decade.
Funny you brought up the "Cracker Barrel tastes like it was cooked in an old folks home" thing because my brother said the exact same thing, and he is the kitchen manager/"head chef" at an old folks home. 🤣
Cracker Barrel breakfast is still great tho. If I want a burger, I’m not thinking Cracker Barrel lol
I wonder if they use SISCO for their produce and meat. They supply hospitals and nursing homes
I had never even considered ordering a burger from Red Lobster, Texas Roadhouse, or Longhorn. Thanks for enlightening us, Josh.
This guy's complaint for everything is lack of salt. I just think Josh would enjoy life better if he took a salt shaker with him everywhere he went.
@@GleeChan Or places can cook their food properly
As a weirdly huge of fan B-dub, I'm seriously proud that they made an S-tier burger! I only ever get the chicken wings! 🤣
Joshua, your voice sounds just like Brandon Herrera. Well spoken, smooth, and concise enunciation. Big fan of your content as well. Thank you for all you do.
How could you forget Fuddrucker's? They have so many great burgers and a "salad bar" where you can add lettuce, tomato, chile, etc. as you please.
Yeah I was like, no Fuddruckers? No Johnny Rockets? Not even TGI Fridays? C'mon Josh... this isn't "every" chain restaurant - it's part 1 of "every" chain restaurant.
Are you from New England ? Lol
Fudruckers kind of cheating when you can load up your own toppings like a huge side of pico and nacho cheese to shovel into your mouth after a bite of burger
@@JKHTXBut that's the appeal - Fudd's has the GOAT green chile nacho cheese sauce
@@kevwwong How about Cheddars? I haven't been there in many years, but I remember enjoying their burgers.
Thats only if they actually put the sodium in. Which they don't
I was genuinely shocked by Bdubs burger when they released it. They had no business doing something so well.
its literally a perfect burger imo lmao
@@kenyattafrazierr yeah, that texas thing looks like a hockey puck style which is too thick.
Thank you Joshua. For the last 5 years I've been saying Buffalo wild wings have such a top tier burger. Their smash burgers are so good!
I dont understand the haters. if you grew with joshua for a bit. you would know. we are trying to invent new flavors and establish new criteria and ratings. so eventually we can have a divine buffet. You are doing great work
Shredded lettuce is the best way to serve lettuce on any sandwich or burger and both S tier burgers had it.
I hate how messy it can get but I have to agree. Needs that layered crunch.
Those burgers would be even better with whole-leaf iceberg lettuce. I will happily die on this hill.
@@blairhoughton7918 I love both for different reasons, it's different crunches LMFAO
@@blairhoughton7918 So would my husband!
Didn't notice. Good Eye!
As someone who worked at BWW for 6 years in my teenage years and has since revisited, they went from being just like Applebees/Chili’s to having INSANELY underrated burgers.
Oh Cracker Barrel. We love you for your breakfast and southern specialties. Absolutely nothing else though
As an Inspire Brands employee, I'm glad to see the BDubs burger getting the respect it deserves. Never tried LongHorn's burgers but their NY Strip is my go to.
Josh, for me you should make my own personal burger recipe
Onions 4 ways burger
Fried onion
Red onions pickled
Jammy sweet onion
Thin raw onion
Any cheese of choice
2 smash burgers
Fried on top of patties
Pickled and raw between the patties
Jammy on bottom
This burger does WORK, trust me
Longhorn might be better than B-Dubs burger, but if I’m going to Lorghorn, I’m ordering a steak 😅
Looks like this burger needs some MUSSSSSSSTTTTTTTAAAAAAARRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDD
aka: How to tell a Texan by their burger... :)
I’m already sick of this reference.
EW. It needs Dukes Mayo..not mustard.
The chili’s rating hurt. I also have to factor value in. The fact the chili’s burger is on the 3 for me deal and u can get it with a side, soup or salad and drink it’s always an S-tier
Or go there on Tuesday and get a burger and fries for 8 bucks.
It was good you say, Josh? I thought you were going to start coughing up blood and speaking in tongues while undergoing a beastly transformation
Everyone last week: "oh yes! finally a cooking video not just another tier list"
Everyone this week: "oh..."
Pretty sure it was just a joke
@rayjones2606 No, the company that owns Red Lobster is trying to blame the endless shrimp on the restaurants failure when it's really them price gouging RL to increase profits for their distribution company. They are robbing Peter to pay Paul.
I thought subway killed Quiznos with their $5 footlong where they(subway) made no money but took all the business
Im a manager at Chilis in NC and I can tell you that double otc wasn't made to spec. First clue was it's falling apart. A perfect burger would've been a B at best though just felt the need to comment that lol
I have always had good burgers at chilis. Never had one under seasoned or with wilted lettuce.
And even when I get the veggie burger it’s good.
Spec huh
Just bacon burger with garlic aioli pickles, little red onion and lettuce is probably my favorite burger you can get since fuddruckers shut down
3:03 looks creepy brohhh😭
I've never eaten at any of these and I swear to Dog I never will, thanks to this beautiful episode
Request: do this for regional restaurants. For instance, Utah has a restaurant chain called "Chubby's Cafe" and wins all the best burger awards in the state basically every year.
This is how I learn that the Cheesecake Factory is not, in fact, a cosy cafe that sells cheesecake and tea (I'm not from the US lol)
My wife loves going there whenever we go to the US. I always end up getting a salad no dressing because everything there is a sodium/calorie bomb and I don't like being in a food coma after I eat.
They do both
I am supposed to go to Cracker Barrel tonight for the first time and was thinking about the burger. Thank you for saving my taste buds
I recommend the meatloaf. It's my Cracker Barrel go-to. Their salads are good too.
Going to cracker barrel for anything other than southern food is like going to McDonald's for a salad
@@langleybryant8641 Yea. As a North Carolinan I was surprised to see them in this video because I didn't realize they had a burger.
As A Red Robin Employee... I'm so happy you liked it.
Seeing The Cheesecake Factory at F actually shocked me. I always get the Bacon Bacon Cheeseburger and I absolutely love it. It is an S tier burger for me. It is my all time favorite burger.

Dang, I'm disappointed in Cracker Barrel. It's one of my more favorite breakfast places but I don't think I've ordered anything other than pancakes, I'll be honest.
CB is _wildly_ hit-or-miss. It can vary by not just location but also time of day and even by item in some cases.
Cracker barrel is bland food, that’s why the older generation loves it. Food is just average at best.
@@frankiethefrog1752DA comment 😅
im convinced that Josh has a way higher salt tolerance than most people
All I gotta say for this list is that you DO NOT GO to Cracker Barrel for their burgers.
Red Robin has always brought it HARD with their burgers. Their A1 Peppercorn burger was a religious experience for me.
another vote for bringing back but better and but cheaper
Mans went to Cracker Barrel and didn't get breakfast food. That's a crime.
Its a burger video..................
my 2 favorite burger places is NOT on this list.
1. eureka burger
2. fatburger
3. logans road house is alright
Make recipe videos pls
Alright Josh just because you ordered a bad item on the cheesecake factory menu does not mean the rest is awful, please don't talk trash on one of the best restaurants out there just because of the burger you got.
I used to work for Red Robin so let me give you the inside scoop.
Meat always frozen comes packed and ordered in
They toast the buns with Margarine
Line cooks are never trained correctly and rarely wash hands
Overall health and safety is pretty lax
They cook their burgers through a quick cooker that is set to no pink or some pink
I miss $1 McDonalds Hamburgers
@@SteveSherman-jp1dz as a former mcjob guy I hated people like you, what you want already exists and it's called the Quarter Pounder. Just order a quarter pounder.
@@iuchoi Is that tard speak for you worked there? So what? I did too. I bet you didn't last very long with your terrible attitude. A quarter pounder costs $6.69. My meal costs $5.29 and you get way more. Your advice sucks. Edit: I went and got this today just to piss you off, and I added a free McChicken with extra lettuce, mayo, and pickles for free with points!
What happened to all the cooking? I appreciate the grade/tier series but miss the reason for following in the first place
No Jack Daniels burger from TGI Fridays?
This list means nothing.
Think about how many TGI Fridays locations have closed across the country. That could very well be the case in their area
Salt salt
Salt salt salt salt
Salt
Salt salt salt salt salt salt
I hate overly salty food but for some reason Josh is like “needs salt needs salt needs salt needs salt”
I’m waiting for him to review an ice cream cone and say it isn’t good cause it “hasn’t been salted”
I am so glad you got that Cheesecake Factory burger. I ordered it one time, and had the same response. "I'm surprised at how bad that is" is exactly what went through my head. I was honestly going to be mad if you loved it, and it turned out I was given a bad one.
Honestly I'm really missing old-josh. I get this stuff does numbers, but I learned to cook with your recipes Papa, where are they now?
I keep hearing great things about Longhorn Steakhouse. The nearest one is 350 miles away in So Cal, sadly. Franchisees, the west coast needs you!
For someone who lives in Texas, to not even have Fuddruckers on your list to try is an outcry. I miss our fuddruckers here in Ohio so much
Said it before and I’ll say it again: Buffalo Wild Wings burgers are TOP TIER. Easily outperform all the fast food chains except maybe Shake Shack
Me: Mmm look at the bun sticking to the burger, I love when that happens
Josh: This is an abomination
Me: oh yeah true
Your tier lists are always fun to watch! I want to try Jollibee now thanks to you!
I guess my ADHD is acting up because it does legitimately bother me that the tier lists don’t seem to have a rhyme or reason for the way you rank items. Letters for one, out of 5 for another, and out of 10 for another 😵💫
