I lived in St Augustine Beach in the early 90s. I was born in Jacksonville, but moved up to Maryland for 8 years. I came back to Florida in 92. We lived on Willow drive which had to be one of the most beautiful neighborhood's on the beach. It was a double property. My father bought the house for the backyard because of its beauty. It was a three-bedroom ranchers built in 1961. It was solid concrete. My father bought that house in 1991 for $150,000 for the double property. We extended the living room into the back porch. I had a blast living in St Johns county in the 90s! I had a pretty good job and made very good money, and I actually got to live in Davis shores. It was quite a formidable then. Not anymore. I never thought I could ever live anywhere but on the island. But I did live on the mainland. I finally had to move to Jacksonville because it was just too expensive. I didn't want to live so far west of the city that I was in the middle of nowhere. St Augustine of the nineties is gone. It's officially slowly turning into Daytona Beach. Sad 😭

Local here, Tourism should be a blessing for any town. Managing the tourism should be done by the local government to ensure proper building placement to disperse the tourism growth. These numbers of tourists needs to increase to ensure our local government has the correct funds in place to build onto the current city structure.
"People not walking fast enough." is a statement that really does not hold a lot of value to the conversation. Very weak argument. Grandma and Grandpa walk slow could be one the multitudes of causes for this. In regards to Harrys, an hour wait is common, and should be expected. Although there are many days in the year where there is zero wait. Speed limit should remain a constant 45 mph outside of the city and 25 mph inside.
On average, people bike a lot here as it is a faster commute. Scooters should be a recommended form of transport. Nothing wrong with this. If you are looking to drive in a car all the time then you may want to live in a suburb area.
You are complaining about UV rays? Okay so this issue is not only for this part of the state but anywhere in the country. Very odd to try and make an argument for one particular part of the state. They make some really lovely sunscreen these days for this issue.
Supply and demand are affecting rentals here in this city. There are six new houses being built in an older neighborhood that has been here for decades, there are multiple communities being built within and outside of the city of St.Augustine. All of these houses are well built and are being reserved for our teachers, local firemen, and one house has been completely renovated by a business owner to server as a residence for the local restaurant workers. Company owners have a lot of ownership for their people and put their own money on the line to solve these issues. No one asks them to do this but in the end they can do this because the demand is so high. Local community is very strong because of this.
There are not people striking for jobs and cheaper housing! This is such an outrageous clip and you appear to be tailing your media to the Fox news audience but you should be more ashamed for this media than any other portion.
The bridge does not go up every 30 minutes! Another odd statement that even close to being correct. How long does the Bridge of Lions stay up?
The draw bridge operates on a set schedule during the weekdays.
The bridge is open for boat traffic, Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM, on the hour and half-hour; with no openings at 8 AM, 12 PM, and 5 PM.
On Saturday, Sunday and Federal holidays, the bridge opens 7 AM to 6 PM, on the hour and half-hour, including 8 AM, 12 PM, and 5 PM, if requested.
Solution is to understand this schedule and use the other bridge which on road 312. This is useful knowledge.
Demand has come quickly and builders are actively working through this area to finish these properties. It takes time to take in this many people on average but if you are in early then you are first on board with these communities. Many families here with young kids and plenty of work now that Lockheed has finished getting the necessary contracts, SpaceX is an active employer, and Jacksonville is always looking to fill seats for employment. What St.Augustine has is a beautiful city structure immersed with fishing charters, beach life, and the story of old money transitioning into new young money.
Come here to be the reason for change and meet people who want to build something to improve the town that they live in. Message a local and actually investigate with local people who get some sun in their lives.

Hey I agree with you on many of your points. Some points are CNN to my Fox news. (I don't like either of them)
If you check out the rest of my videos you can see that I'm actually very pro-tourism, pro-development and pro-local. I just have so many videos talking about all the good in our community, I have to point out some of the bad.
If you are a local you know they literally make bumper stickers here in town that say "dont make me cross the bridge".
My point being is that I love this town. Though not everything is sunshine and rainbows.
Thanks for engaging in the comments. Please check out my other vids to get a better idea of who I am.

I am in a wheelchair with my service dog and we could barely fit between the drugged out homeless people laying on the sidewalks. No more artists or street performers, but sure it's OK to have vagrants literally blocking sidewalks in front of shops and restaurants. Not how we remembered this place from our youth and won't be moving there as originally planned. IOW, if a car parks and pays for say two hours, but leaves after ten minutes, their system is set up to make the next car pay for the time also, starting at the time they parked. This is, in effect, double/triple/or more, charging for the same time, same space. A complete ripoff of visitors. Also amusing are their trollies. The seats specifically. They are hard metal, which is okay, but the shape of the back is, I believe, deliberately designed to be very uncomfortable, so the rider doesn't just sit there and ride around town, but is compelled by those damn seats to get up occasionally and visit the stops the trolley makes, and SPEND MONEY. These seat backs are curved so that the top of the metal back rams into your back. I guess if a person had a bad, natural slump, they might be okay, but for most people, you don't want to sit there very long. Clever, but sleazy trick I think.

Not sure where you get your information from but St Johns county schools are rated #1 in Florida, google it! they have been #1 for 10 years running! Also, you did not mention the way people drive here....speeding. tailgating, not obeying the rules, weaving in and out of traffic and taking very serious risks while driving. You can be doing 85MPH on I-95 and sure as hell there is always someone wanting to pass and tailgating.

    "AFFORDABLE HOUSING"
Is NOT the correct nomenclature Locals want to hear from their political leaders and civic authority.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING is relative to the average.
If you are saying 480,000 dollars is Avg . They could establish AFFORDABLE as 350,000 dollars.
And worse if they build a development they usually have a HOUSING Authority or commission
To govern manage over the new housing.
The new inhabitants will be charged mandatory monthly maintenance fees.
On top of whatever their mortgage will be.
So they will initially claim to want to sell the entry level or smaller units, basically a new mobile home size unit for 180,000 dollars ""Starting Prices."
Then set monthly maintenance fees "STARTING" at around only 800 dollars.
This is a low ball number to secure their zoning from the public
    Shortly after construction begins
Those maintenance fees and starting prices will start to go up.
So it appears your Rent / mortgage would be 2200 2500 dollars
By the time units are all completed this number would likely be 3500.
This is NOT considered AFFORDABLE HOUSING to most local working class people.
This is only AFFORDABLE HOUSING to profit Real estate entities and political figures.
Who then proceed to Fleece their own people.
The correct nomenclature would be LOWER INCOME.
I lived in Grand Lake CO and that is what happened there.
There are no more families there
    No more kids.
    Schools will close !!
    Neighborhoods gone !!!
    Churches foreclose their flocks dissolved!!!!
    It's like a Living Cemetery.
    If you work there ,
You can't afford to live there
Then business hire illegal workers and abuse them
    Or hire Temporary J12s
Who are mostly young European students who pay to come work basically as slaves.
Of which contribute almost nothing to the local economy and proceed to take any money they earned back to their home country in Europe.
    This is not Good !!!!
If you are in the real estate business and contributing to this you are treasonous to your home and your children and families will be left with NO COMMUNITY !
