    It's not that traffic is awful, but the city and it's entire infrastructure was not designed for the deluge of people that have become slightly unbearable.

    • @LIVINGINSTAUGUSTINE
      @LIVINGINSTAUGUSTINE  2 года назад

      I don't think traffic is bad at all. I have lived in NYC so I know what real traffic is. Though I know it's bad comparatively for what it was. I remember us1 and 312 when 10 cars would be at the light

    • @sm3675
      @sm3675 2 года назад +1

      I'm not from St.Augestine, but the highways should be converted into pestrianized routes. For example, to go to the beach, you must cross the Bridge of Lions. Close the Bridge of Lions and leave it only for bikes and people. This will make people either take the bus or bike to the beach, or choose another route.

    • @sm3675
      @sm3675 2 года назад +1

      Another project ( more expensive), would be building a new highway at the outskirts of the city. Thus closing hwy 1 to only local traffic. More roundabouts can also speed-up traffic because you don't have to wait for the traffic light.

    Since I was born and raised there, I can definitely say that it has had MANY changes over the past 20+ years. If you love it now, you should've seen it 10 or 20 years ago. It's so much more crowded and "big city" than it used to be. Best place for bagels is downtown. There's tons of amazing tiny places to see, eat and just visit. @@sb4040 You're correct. Jean Ribault established the French colony of Fort Caroline in what is now Jacksonville, FL; the French did NOT establish or settle anything in St. Augustine, FL. On September 8, 1565, St. Augustine was founded and settled by Pedro Menéndez de Avilés in the name of Philip II. It was named St. Agustine after St. Augustine of Hippo whose feast day is August 28th which is when Menedez's crew first sighted the land.
      If you want to get REAL specific about this matter, Florida was named and discovered by the earliest known European explorer to the region, Juan Ponce De Leon on April 2, 1513. He named it La Florida in recognition of the verdant landscape and because it was the Easter season, which the Spaniards called Pascua Florida (Festival of Flowers). It's nice to see native Floridians still know their history.

Too, Lincolnville, in the '90s, used to be filled with gangs and drug dealers. It was unsafe to walk through even in broad daylight. Not to put down all you tell people about Florida.......but please don't forget to mention how hot it gets most of the year, dealing with hurricane season every year, bugs, mosquitoes ,snakes, gators,..yes you have to be careful + cautious cause ignorant people think its fun to feed them.....which makes them more dangerous.... the heavy humidity and other such things
    They need to know good and not so fun things as well.
    In St. Augustine downtown floods usually when hurricanes do come close to land and sometimes on land.As it did in 2017...Hurricane Irma...most recent.....causing higher home insurance as well as damage to the area....as well as other places in FL.
    So just know all the facts...and do your research as well.
    I don't say this to deter anyone but just so you know all the facts..good + negatives so you make good decisions.

      Not meaning to sound rude or disrespectful,
      But if you did I missed it on this video, that's good cause people need to know all the pros and cons. Not just the good...at least while it last that is.
      I personally despise development, for the destruction it cause and more problems , when waterways are changed...land is changed from how it was naturally in the beginning.
      That meaning the more development the less it will stay the same...but guess that doesn't matter.. ..usually the old loving dollar wins out...unfortunately and for many years St. Augustine has always took pride and efforts to make it the beautiful city it is and keeping it historically the same.
      But guess it will be like the rest of our state it will go down hill and all will be destroyed by more development.
      Seen it for years now going on and we see more and more problems that it is causing....in the environment and the natural ways God created it so that it works well and naturally.
      Man destroys everything by changing it's natural way it was made.
      And yes...it sure is a pet peeve of mine...cause I love our state, but not so much anymore.
      More + more it is changed and ruined everyday by developers.
      In essence our state is practically an island and how much can you do to it before it is made useless by destroying it?!
      Many natives have already moved out for that very reason. Heck I have even thought it and I have been here my whole life.
      It is being ate up and too many people moving here..It's not made for that. But at my age hopefully I can live what life I have before it gets much more ruined!
      I truly pray so anyway.
      I despise developers...they just make money they don't care what effects it makes on people's lives nor the beautiful land they destroy! Or much else for that fact.
      Scripture is so very clear......money is truly the root of all evil!
      Sad indeed....oh and we know ,. It's progress. Lol
      No it is the destruction of our planet earth!
      Signs are all around us that remind some of us if we pay attention to it!!
      Yes I am a spiritual person and truly wish more were too.
      Many eyes are closed to the truth.
      But I won't go there cause I know ears are closed to it too.
      Just said when I heard all the new development and highways you talked about in that area.
      Saddens my heart deeply.
      Another beautiful place going to pot as the saying goes. So sad indeed.
      God knows I truly hate hearing about it...wish I had not listen to your video if not for just that reason alone.
      I have long to move back to St.Augustine before I died but not now........all will be lost and ruined sooner than later it seems.
      Truly saddens me to hear all this in your video...but of course it's all over our state that way......being ruined one day at a time !!!!!
      Should look at the country of Canada....now they preserve and care about it and it has so much beautiy still their.
      Hope they can continue to keep it that way. It just gorgeous!! The way nature made it!!
      Really wish I had not watched your video..it is so depressing to me...just being very truthful.
      I can picture God looking down with tears and disappointment in his eyes at the destruction of the beauty he made for mankind.
      And yes man is suppose to care take the earth...not destroy it. Again yes it's in scripture.
      It's not my words but God's.
      And God's Word is truth.........
      But you have a nice day.......sorry I feel so strongly about these things, but more of mankind should, even though this earth is just temperal anyway ...our next destination is the eternal one and the most important one for those that believe and know God's Truth!!!
      May more seek his wisdom + knowledge, for I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 😊
      Thank you.........may God forgive us for destroying all the beauty he had created for us to enjoy!
      If this offends you it is not my intention......but you have to know the South has always been known as the Bible Belt of the country,. hence known too as the states that are know for it's friendliness + hospitalitality.
      May all be kind in all you do and to others.......also in Scripture! 😊

      Depends on what you mean by "racial," since last I checked there was only one race--human. If you're asking about ethnic disadvantages that give rise to drugs and gang activity, all of that moved to the West Side west of US1 about 20 years ago. Downtown now we have the ugly homeless epidemic where 8 to 10 homeless gather together every few yards in little tribes on St. George Street with their dogs, cell phones, and loud music. This morning I counted over 30 homeless people in a 30-40 foot space sitting along the Cathedral wall.

    Is there a good place for fishing?

      Depends on what kind of fishing you like. Definitely Yes. They host Bassmaster Elite on the St Johns River in Palatka.
